24:45 Sam: "Let me guess, 3 alarms and the mission's over?" Lambert: "No Fisher, this isn't a video game. Alarms are just going to make your job harder."
This Gabe was Nathan Drake before Uncharted, he can shoot from any possible position he is in. I loved this game because of the special gadgets and ammo types, plus the environmental traps spiced things up. Also I always tried to stealth kill every enemy where there was an option
Uh? Why do you insult the name of Syphon Filter and Gabe Logan by relating them to Uncharted and Nathan Drake? Uncharted is a game without originality, without charisma, without anything memorable, it is a rip-off of Sly Cooper, Lara Croft and Indiana Jones. Uncharted is only overrated by console warriors who never got to play the Tomb Raider Legends trilogy.
I loved this game when it came out. It was way before cover shooters were ran into the ground and it was pretty fun for a handheld game. I think I 100%ed back in the day. But I don't think it's aged well because of those things. And I find myself a lot less forgiving when playing without a handheld. I still like it, but not as much as I once did. When you said "if it didn't have Syphon Filter on the name, I wouldn't have played it", that was spot on to me too. I feel like whenever I replay this game, it's because I like the PS1 games so much and I'm just going through the series. I enjoyed Logan's Shadow much more recently though.
@@PlayStation_Paradise yea blood so ridiculous I feel they censored it for ps2. This one actually got me back into the series after I felt omega strain was virtually unplayable for me even with the strategy guide lol
There's all kinds of little instances of censorship. Off the top of my head, Lian slits a guy's throat and his blood sprays all over the glass in the PSP version, but on the PS2 version, she just snaps his neck. On PSP, there's a well placed guard waiting to be pushed in front of the giant spinning centrifuge (best part of the game tbh), but he's absent on PS2. On PSP, a guard takes Blake hostage and you can blow her brains out by accident. On PSP, Gabe kicks the final boss in front of a train but he just shoots him on PS2. And this is all on the final chapter. There's probably more that I didn't catch too iirc, the taser doesn't ignite people in the PS2 version either
I thought random Nolan North voiced NPCs in Mafia II talking to each other was peak Nolan North but an either game where almost every NPC is Nolan North??! on the Nolan North scale that's 10 Nolans out of 10!
I’m a big fan of this series but I never played these two games(dark mirror, Logan’s shadow) and kinda forgot they existed and now watching the video kinda regret it but your video more than makes up for it. I totally forgot Mara actually died along with Elsa, at one point I thought she just kinda got wrote off and that was it. Can’t wait to see your next video on Logan’s shadow that one did intrigue me and I wanted to play because I read it had to do with Lian being a traitor or something like that but I could be wrong and thinking of something else. Anyways you’re doing an amazing job on your videos and wish you luck on more of your content .
Great work. Found your channel after starting another run through SF and was curious what other’s thought of the series. I never made the jump to the games on PS2, and it’s a shame these title turned out so bland. I believe the uniqueness to the originals combat arose from use of realistic animations to nail the action movie vibe of the era. This could cause problems in combat when the weighty controls misaligned with the targeting system and you end up strafing back and forth into half walls and environmental objects. However, when the game is firing on all cylinders the combat looks pretty cinematic. It’s why speed runs of SF looks so cool, as precise play results in a set of perfectly choreographed action movie set pieces. I don’t think SF nails this in all aspects. I think the Max Payne games really perfect the style and momentum in gunplay SF was going for, but I will always love these games for being the foundation for some of my earliest gaming memories. Keep up the good work. I’ve added a few games to my list off your recommendations, and you have earned a new sub.
Bro I heard so much about how this was a great psp game and was so fun, so good, but all I can recall of this game is how much it felt like busy work and made me think people had nostalgia/coping blimders. Not hard, not fun, just kind of there. So many areas that would be great for getting ambushed only to have nothing, or having something but the AI being so broken that all you have to do is shoot in row. But this is a good review and actually gave praise in areas it does well as opposed to just dumping on it.
These psp games are really cheap but it's really funny to think that the old style of gameplay without the tank controls would be a perfect fit for a PSP game. Despite the flaws of Omega Strain, i've really enjoy the gameplay because the limitations create a sense of strategy and flow on the battlefield. Question: after Logan Shadow, you will cover Combat Ops? Despite to be a full online psp game, i think is a really obscure game that didn't see anyone talking about
I would've loved to see the old style SF games on handheld. I think it would've worked perfect for the PSP's 1 analog stick. And they could've experimented with different gameplay. For Combat Ops, unfortunately not likely. I live in Japan and it'd be really difficult to get people together without crippling lag. I also wanna move on from SF and cover other big PSX/2 series.
Liked this and the Logan's Shadow. But, I preferred the PS1 originals. Liked the PS1 VA for Gabe a lot more than this bland sounding one. Pretty funny how many enemies/characters were voiced by Nolan North in this game.
Oh yeah, remember how I told you you had to wait for the bonus mission with Mara and Elsa surprise? Didn't you just love it? 😂😂 the writing sucks, but finally Mara is dead after her 5th headshot 😂
I remember playing this one on ps2 and thinking it was really bad. Years later i bought a psp and played this one and the sequel on the portable system and thought that it was a very good game, for that console at least. It's not great but serviceable. Not a classic like the ones for the PS1.
honestly as good as this game was don't play it on the new consoles they ported over the psp version of it not the ps2 version of it so you cant roll or even zoom in to shoot unless you have a scope
@@PlayStation_Paradise yup when they ported it to playstation 2 they made a control scheme that used the right analog for looking instead of the buttons it was more like Omega strains controls but with the weird weapon swapping this game introduced

Logan's Shadow was a lot better than this one.
It's real good!
A Tunuh video? No wonder the heavens opened this morning!
Such good coverage dude, I love learning more about these games. Also jokes on point
The actual psp version has blood and I don't know why they took it out for the ps2 release. Btw, great video on a once great series!
Thx for watching! I haven't played the PSP version but I saw video. It seemed like blood was only for headshots but I couldn't 100% tell. Do you know?
@@PlayStation_Paradise yea blood so ridiculous I feel they censored it for ps2. This one actually got me back into the series after I felt omega strain was virtually unplayable for me even with the strategy guide lol

0:33 They didn't remove the lock on. It's just set to reticle manual aim as default for some reason. "Classic" control mode is in the options.
Are you fuckin' serious? I'm gonna have to boot up the game again lol
@Soft_Pixel yup lol, it makes the sniper more usable as well.
Love the videos! These games were what got me into gaming as a kid

It's not bland at all, there are lot of things you can do and miss. There are also new ammo types for the sniper, bonus missions, ranking system ect.
Lock on targeting systems ruin any existing immersion for ole boy
