This verse comes from a Sci-Fi book called "I have no mouth and I must scream" by Harlan Ellison.
This book talks about the relationship between humanity and machinery, particularly about humanity under the rule of machines. Towards the end of the book, Ted (one of the main characters) becomes merged with AM (Allied Mastercomputer) after the others have gone to ensure that he can not kill himself. He is left as an amorphous blob, a poor representation of his former self, left to live the rest of his life in agony.
Honestly, this book seems to have a lot of correlation to this ARG and I would heavily recommend people who are invested in the deeper lore to take a look at it.
