They love what the kid does for the parent. The kid is used as a tool to manage the parents feelings and as a vessel for the parent's shadow. In psychotherapy speak it's called Narcissism. In this case classic FemiNarcissism.
Often the mother demonises the exhusband making him the baddie, and by implication herself the goodie. Thus when it comes to discipline the kid the mum doesn't want to be BadCop to the kid.

These people don't know what it's like to genuinely love and care about someone else's future well-being, and have only ever seen the act of loving someone from a shallow, vapid, and materialistic point of view. Any thoughts on how this will negatively affect the rest of the child's life are rationalized as "I'm doing my best, what more do you want from me?"

Maybe the mothers have been provided everything their whole lives and genuinely have no clue how a child can grow up and take care of themselves. If everything is given to you and you never have to work for anything you can't pass that behaviour to your kids.

When my daughter started eating Solid foods a few months ago, she was very picky at first, especially since I started her on veggies. She got used to them very quickly and I learned that she preferred foods I cooked over baby food. I don't blame her, that stuff is nasty. Now at a year and two months old, She loves russian foods, Italian foods, Asian foods, some lower heat spicy foods like my chili and japchae, all veggies except corn (she hates it getting stuck in her teeth), all fruits except bananas, dairy and eggs, and she doesn't like sweets that much, except yogurt or the peanut butter chocolate bars I make (she hates Cookies, icing and cake, and Ice cream and throws tantrums if you try to get her eat some like for her birthday). It took me 5 months of trials with her to get her to love fruits, veggies, and meats to move her from as picky as my brother (Who has never even tried Steak, any fruits or veggies, or different types of rice or pasta dishes) to eating better and enjoying more variety than her older cousins. It's not hard to do. It's not hard to cook a 30 min dinner. It's not hard to tell your kid "no". And it's certainly not hard to feed them appropriate proportions so they learn not to over eat and have the energy to play and stay fit. I did it with a severely premature baby Who is physically and developmentally at the age of a 9 month old, so I certainly know it can be done with a term baby developing normally. Shit, most women don't even realize that they themselves don't need to gair more than 15 to 30 lbs when pregnant and can lose that weight quickly as they play with the baby and practice healthy eating habits with their baby when they begin trying new foods. I only gained 12 lbs and 3 months after birth, was right back down to 98 lbs.

This is the sacrifice a parent has to make. They have to look for your FUTURE not your present. Usually that means putting you through uncomfortable situations as a child to hopefully make you more capable as an adult.
Being a good parent isn't about being your child's best friend it's about being their guide and mentor even if they dislike you for it. That's the sacrifice.

Surprisingly didn't happen to me. My dad's addicted to smoking, but I figured that cigars aren't meant to be smoked all the time, so I'll be fine, but I knew that it still was a slippery slope and that I had to check myself. I shockingly didn't feel the need to repeat that often. I did a few times, making sure to smoke once and stop for a long period of time, that being months, before I did it again. The last time I had one was this summer. I wanted to read a book outside with a cigar, and it ended up not being fun and not working at all. Never touched one again, never felt the want for another.
Probably because I followed my dad's advice. "You can smoke cigars once in a while, but don't graduate to cigarettes." Never did, never will, and then I took extra precautions that he never mentioned.
Point is, don't smoke, you don't need it.

I had a client that had a 5 year old boy that had stretch marks on his FACE. His mom tried to tell me that he ate normally and it must be a gland issue. As if a 5 year old can get to 106lbs eating normally. I’ve seen other parents tell me they figured their kids would grow out of it and other stupid bull shit like that. The best way to make your kid eat healthy is to stop making unhealthy food. How in SATANS NAME are they going to find other food if they have no other choice. It's a pathology of modern parenting; they can't bear for their kids to be hungry or otherwise uncomfortable for a single second. Very different from when I was a kid; one of my mother's and father's favourite expressions when I was growing up was "It won't kill you." As in, "Mom/Dad, can I have snack? I'm hungry." "No! Dinner's in less than an hour!" "But I'm HUNG-ry!" "So, BE hungry for an hour! It won't kill you!"

    • @KathyPrendergast-cu5ci
      @KathyPrendergast-cu5ci Рік тому +18

@@Wodenseyes I guess I'm just a bit more old-school; I don't think there's anything wrong with not letting your child eat between meals as long as the intervals are not too long (eg., if they eat a good lunch at 12 pm they can certainly make it to dinner at 6 pm without fainting). Too much grazing throughout the day - even if it's only healthy food they're grazing on - is one of the main reasons for battles at the dinner table; kids often just aren't hungry at all when they sit down to a meal because their stomachs are full of snacks. Letting them guzzle fruit juice or milk like it's water all day long is a major culprit, too. You can't enjoy food if you're not hungry, and there's no point in having regular family meals if everyone doesn't enjoy them.

That's a great way to create a food insecure kid/adult. Sure don't try to introduce a new food while they're full. But starving a kid so they eat something will not in fact make them like it. People will become cannibals for survival afterall.

@@Neoprenesiren "Omg, if you tell a kid they have to eat what you make and don't instantly make them the junk they want, they're going to eat the first person they see!"
      Really?
I don't know if you've ever had this happen, yet I find that when I need to drink water because I have only been drinking coffee, pop, juice or whatever else and I'm getting dehydrated, the water actually tastes slightly sweet and it is soooo refreshing. I do have a bit of a sweet tooth but obviously, water can't really compete with pop, juice or perhaps an energy drink.
So, making a kid sit there until they eat their meal while refusing to make them the junk they want or letting them have junk food from a box, not only isn't starving them, it's also teaching them that they're not going to get their way and gets them used to eating healthier food. That sets them up for success, not failure, due to a lack of willpower and the parents' ability to set boundaries with the kids.
You saying they're going to become cannibals for survival is equating them having to wait for a few minutes up to maybe an hour to people being stranded for months with no food in the middle of nowhere. Totally different situation.

I’m a doctor practicing in a rural part of Texas. A big problem around here (and many places similar to where I am) is accessibility to healthy food. When you have to drive an hour to get to a proper grocery store and your car is unreliable, you don’t have money for gas, or you don’t even have a car… then you have to eat whatever shit is available / affordable to you. I think the childhood obesity epidemic is definitely multi factorial, but the so called “food deserts” that preclude people from even having the option to try to eat healthier are a major problem. Not saying that any of this is applicable to the families featured here, but it is certainly applicable to numerous families across the US.

Too many parents these days think that the best thing for the child is whatever the child wants, which is not the case nearly 100% of the time. In reality, parents choose what seems like the easy route that won't risk pushing the child away, and while that may be true initially, it very often is not once the teen years hit.
It's absolutely essential for at least one parent to hold power over the child and maintain the leadership role throughout the development years. If the child is given the power, as is now so often the case, then any further development will only happen at the child's own discretion, and guidance will come from whatever is most convenient at any given moment, which can lead to all sorts of disaster.

When you only eat junk food, healthful food tastes noticeably worse. To a 7 year old, a bag of chips that are essentially designed in a lab to get you to want to eat more of them is going to be *vastly* more appealing than probably-poorly-cooked vegetables and unprocessed foods in general. I've literally never had success with weight loss until I cut out ~all~ industrially processed food (with the exception of some kinds of food--hard cheese, for instance--where some processing is inherent) because once I did, after a while a lot of the foods I had avoided (fruits and vegetables especially) started tasting fantastic. And I would take that as a compliment of sorts, but now I realized the amount of food I was consuming was not normal for a 7-8 year old. My parents were strict with food, I consider my school lunches were quite balanced (1 sandwich, some fruit or veggies and something sweet, like a cookie),we almost never had fast food (McDonald's, KFC and so on) but despite that I developed a nasty habit of sneaking into the fridge or sweets cabinet and eat everything.
My parents, for the most part, found it funny, but sometimes they would get mad and punish me. But that habit never went away. Now, at 17, I wish my parents would have been more strict with my food intake. At the moment, I am 80 kg and drownings in insecurities anout my body. Most of the people around me are 50-70 kg max and eat a lot less than me. I feel alone and alien when the topic of food comes up because mine and their viwes are completely different. They can eat whatever they like because they are thin, while i have to keep looking and taking note of what i eat because i dont have that luxury of enjoying the food i eat. This has spiraled into me going a full days on nothing, but gum and water because this way no one can judge me on what I eat. I am never happy in the clothes I wear and I feel a certain envy when I am Aron my friends, which festers in my head and turns to resentment. Her and her husband could split child care duties, and if she marries well, she could have even been a stay at home mom. I think this also extends to the content we and kids consume. I hypothesize the more how-to videos people watch, the likely that person is to make healthy habits. I used to ask "why am I so fat" too. Then I got a weight scale and started tracking what I was eating with a app, then I knew why. For example, I'd have two slices of toast with peanut butter without realizing that each slice of bread was 150 calories and all the peanut butter was 700 calories, so I was having 1000 calories just for breakfast. Now I have a rice cake with half a serving of peanut butter (weighed) since that is about 200 calories.

That's how I was like as a kid. I never played sports, and wanted to only play video games. Looking back now it makes sense why I was behind socially. I didn't know how to make friends until college. My middle school and high school years were hard, because I didn't know how to socialize like the other kids, and I would talk about weird subjects that only a few people could relate to. I did improve a lot after I moved out, and my biggest regret in life was not wanting to play sports with the others, and eating too much, and spending too much time on TV and video games as a kid. I've also noticed that I would focus on the negative aspects of things a lot more than positive aspects, which is very likely to be the reason why a lot of people didn't wanna talk to me. It all makes sense when I look at my previous actions more closely.

I’ve never forced my kids to eat anything but if they don’t eat what I provide, I tell them they aren’t hungry enough for anything else.
We start our meals eating a massive portion of veggies appetizer style. When they were little, we made it a game, “NO! That’s MY green bean!” Or “how many trees (broccoli) can you eat?”

@@mindless4338 well for starters me and my fiancé broke up and the motivation to better myself after that played a major role in sticking with it. For my diet I got real serious into fasting and intermittent fasting. For a while I was intermittent fasting everyday eating only between noon and 4pm, and for the food I ate in that time I cut out sugar completely and tried to avoid carbs as much as possible, but otherwise I ate pretty much whatever I wanted. I also got a new job that’s very physical so I’ve been doing a pretty intense workout 4 days a week for a little over a year. Im also a 24 year old male and so my body naturally loses weight pretty easily compared to men in their 40s and such.
But really it just comes down to calories in/calories out, consistent exercise, motivation, and time. If you stay in a calorie deficit and do a little cardio and don’t break those habits and do it for long enough, you will get to whatever goal you’re after.

That’s another part of the reason that kid is so overweight, negative reinforcement for leftovers. DO NOT DO THIS. My parents have both been overweight my whole life and luckily for me my mother did her best to try to teach me good eating habits despite her not being able to practice them for herself. I grew up watching my parents try to lose weight and then fail and go back to their old habits over and over again. I knew at a young age I did not want to be overweight, and besides when I was pregnant, I never have been. As I started to enter my later 20s, I noticed that it was easier to put weight on and my eating habits got a bit worse, so I changed them back to what I was doing before. Then I really started taking my physical health seriously in the last year, going to the gym regularly and actually working out hard and not just casually jogging on the treadmill and calling that a workout, and I lost another 10lbs and am probably at my best weight ever. I too am a single mom and work long hours in health care and my daughter has very good eating habits. I don’t monitor what she eats because I don’t have to worry. She knows her limit and loves eating a variety of fruit and veggies, we eat lean meat or have “meatless” meals with lentils or beans as the protein. I am a pretty good cook and she has never been a picky eater, and I think that’s why! I hate the excuse of being a single mom being used for every damn problem. It does make life harder than having a partner with you to support you and your child too, but it doesn’t mean you just give up and give your child a bunch of issues.

Even in a natural surrounding, animals prefer an easy life to the one they were born to. Try to feed deer, foxes and other animals from the wild, let's say a whole winter : they will come to your place every day, because it's far more convenient for them than to look for food in the wild with the chance of ending up hungry.

Hello TBYS. I just wanted to thank you for bravely speaking out about politics and views that are controversial nowadays. Im an 18 year old woman from Finland, a traditional feminist and an ex-wokeist. A few years ago, when I first started seeing political discussions online, I disagreed with them mildly because I didnt think they represented true equality, and I wasnt afraid to speak my mind. But then I observed that having "wrong" opinions would get you verbally beaten, so I made myself believe the "correct" thoughts. I discovered you during the starting point of my switch back to more conservative thinking. I thought you were hateful and close-minded. But the more I've started accepting my conservatism, the more I've realised that you are actually more equal than the woke people I was a part of. You think just like I used to think before I was converted politically. And I have to admit, forcing myself to think the "right" way for so long has left me without the ability to think for myself anymore, which is sad, but I'm slowly healing. I want to thank you so much, you're doing incredible work, and I'm glad I no longer feel like its me against the world. Looking back at it it might have been the best day of my life, besides mayby graduation. But since that day I run 2hours a day 4 days a week, started martial arts and I love the opportunity that was gifted to me.
I also lost alot of weight but I never changed my nutrition/food intake.
There is a kind of exercise for everyone, and if the kid wants to do it, then it will do it.
