I HATE subscription services, I HATE subscription services.
5 different services: "Come pay your subscription, its only 15$ a month !"
@@cherryrook8684 that's $75 a month if you wanted to play them all at the same time for some reason. 5 games in canada would cost $450+ tax, so about $515.
I would actually prefer only having to pay $15 to play a game for a month and beat it in that month over having to buy it outright at full price.

Regadless of ANYTHING else he said $15 monthly was already a fucking insane number
Main reason I don't play FFXIV lmao
@@valencart tbh, the game itself is great, you get like a lot of content for free, and you don't have to pay subscription fees unless you pay for the dlc, I think is one of the worst fucking ways of doing an MMO but well, square Enix is that way now sadly, the only subscription model i support in MMO is the star wars one, you pay it once, you get everything even if you stop paying, tho you lose the VIP privileges which are pretty good
@@valencart lmao mmos are the biggest scams you pay a lot every month AND you have to pay to get new content lol

Live service games are failing more and more these days too because they can't all live up to the hype or monetize well enough or properly even when they try. buying a game + an expansion is less of a grift and It doesn't suck typically unless the game sucks at which point you have bigger problems as a dev.
@@zach7 ,,Live service games are failing more and more these days", while on steam of the top 20 games by number of players ~13-14 are live service. Or Twitch categories by viewcount, it's about the same out of 20 (with Chatting and Sports included). I don't think that counts as failing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of the service model, but I don't believe for a second, that it's going away.
@@habama1077
I’ve gotta agree. It’s one of those things where the general consensus is “yeah this shit sucks, we shouldn’t have stuff like this”, yet people BUY INTO IT ANYWAY, that’s why they’re still so successful. Like most of the people that play those games probably hate the business model but not enough to quit it entirely.
@@zach7 They're not failing for the companies. They're making WAY more money than just paying $70 and nothing more. They're just making less than they used to
Yeah no that really is the worst idea. Let's take one of the pillars of design creativity in the industry today and slowly wear it into the ground.
jerma is still nostalgic for his WoW years
to think, if ster wasnt there jerma would have tripled maybe even quadrupled down on this idea with no retaliation
the only way this would end up being good would be if they reinvented the whole MMO concept, alienating both souls and MMO fanbases, delivering a unique experience over which everyone would debate wildly, but would ultimately be remembered fondly by their hardcore fans 10, 20 years after the game shut down as a colossal failure and fromsoft with it
You just described RaiderZ which basically was MMO Dark Souls. The game probably has the best combat of any mmo I've played.
Most people probably wouldn't like it, but those 37 fans will remember as the best game ever made.
That seems very specific
Souls games historically have had problems with rushed development in their latter halves and the stacked deadlines to provide dripfeed content in an mmo would probably make it way worse.
Yeah, they already had a hard time filling all the dungeons with meaningful loot. I go through a whole dungeon and kill a boss, just to get "Dude with a sword ashes." There's no way they could make 12 mini-DLCs without compromising quality.
Maybe they could go the "Make PvP and solo their own separate games" route and make PvP exclusive content, but I feel like that would only alienate people who focus on PvE. Can you imagine 100%ing Elden Ring, going into PvP for the first time, and getting dumpstered by a weapon you've never seen before because it literally doesn't exist anywhere else?
But is this a worse idea than food mode
Nah food mode is great. At least the idea where the characters have a picnic with you as you’re eating.
@@kongu12395 cute screensaver mode sounds okay, but not Jerma's suggestion, his food mode idea is dementia mode, "I want to eat borgir, right now, I cannot pause, save, and open the game again in 20 minutes, play the game for me, computer" mode
Food mode is unironically great
Yes, of course it is, food mode is stupid not game ruining
the first iteration of food mode sucked, but his second proposition is ok
live service games are a scourge on the games imdustry
Anything that is a subscription should be wiped from the gaming industry
I wouldn't say that ENTIRELY. SUBSCRIPTION BASED live service games are truly awful.
anti-live service games is an opinion I have literally never seen
wasnt TF2 live service?
@@ComradeSpookfessor modern games which are undercooked, but use the name 'live-service' as a crutch to avoid criticism of having no content. It's associated mainly with shitty multiplayer games which drip-feed content to the buyer
@@nicksterpick it's still a bad generalisation because any game with an online component or that is still receiving support from its developers is a live service game.
Mr. Green came out of him for a moment
Jerma softly described Dark Souls but made by Paradox with like 3 major DLCs a year and 3 mini DLCs that costs you like 90 bucks a year
That's literally the lore of the DS3 Ashes of Ariandel DLC
A world that people retreat to because it's supposed to be an unchanging painting that slowly becomes colder and colder, and the player has to let it die.
Making an infinite Souls game only means one thing - Miyazaki will make an infinite swamp level. Think about that for a minute.
Jerma really is a psychopathic killing machine.
he invented warframe
(AcuraPurple pointed that out)
What a deplorable idea from Mr. Moneybags
i really get him, i myself have felt this towards the monster hunter series aswell, in an ideal world that sounds really cool, just getting to explore an ever expanding world feeling like an infinite adventure. but essentially theres too much greed and too much wrong with the live service kind of system for it to ultimately work without ruining the game itself in some capacity. it also raises balance and power creep issues. the fun in these games is starting from the bottom and slowly figuring your build and playstyle out.
@@earthbound_one not really. It creates the illusion of a lot of content but its preety comparable or sometimes even less than older gens. The difference now is that they release content little by little instead of releasing an ultimate version with all of it already in game from the get go.
Soulsbournes rely pretty heavily on a sense of progression and accomplishment that a service like this would necessarily utterly fail to provide.

I think the analogy Jerma is looking for is a Souls game that is in the live service style of MH: World, a single game for a set price that got live service-esque updates for a long time. That game did it pretty well, but I'm not sure how to transition that into a souls game. Souls games and MH games already have similar quality DLC, like Iceborne or Subreak for MH, and The DLC for DS2 and DS3. The idea isn't bad on paper, I just don't know how to do it right.
Isn't Ubisoft literally doing this with Assassin's Creed Infinity or whatever it's called
ubisoft has BEEN wearing down assassins creed since the 3rd game and look at them now
yep, id rather ubisoft do that to themselves over fromsoft a million times though

@@wheresmyhugat why would you say something so incredibly incorrect
@@orbcat1790 they didn’t actually watch it that comment was made one minute apart from the first one
@@orbcat1790 I mean the idea of a live-service souls-like game isn't that bad in its self imo, it's just all the bs that investors would want them to ham fist into it and jerma pretty much agreed that it would suck because of that.
@@nullcoreproject Yeah, if it wasnt a lootbox sim like every other live service game tends to be it could be alright. But definitely wouldnt work out with investors.
this is a really good idea I just don't think anyone in the comments has an in depth understanding of what an MMO is, or why it's normal for an MMO to be subscription based outside of "well an mmo just means there's big multiplayer" MMO makes new MASSIVE expansions VERY frequently, it's like a game that never stops production, what jermas suggesting isn't "a dark souls game with a stupid paywall" it's a stupid pay wall for essentially a dark souls franchise that gets a BRAND NEW ADDITIONAL GAMES WORTH OF CONTENT EVERY SINGLE YEAR, but created as an expansion to a single long running dark souls game
I hate that MMOs are subscription based, bc no matter how cool it is I would never be able to convince myself to pay monthly for it. That being said, I 100% understand WHY they have to charge monthly. A ton of MMOs go under bc they don’t make enough money from subscription, or they try adding packs like “pay $10 a month or $60 for the year” and it just drives them to the ground immediately.
Least delusional live service defender:
soulslikes already are plagued with the issue of having rushed content nearing the end, which a live service addition would make that problem even worse.
What would happen is the game would be liked by 10 people and it would die in the following year, shutting down

He ain't cooking. He's reheating an expired meal he found in the back of his fridge.
Demon’s souls original actually had a Halloween every where everyone’s world was set to black tendency.
On the art is finite point, I feel that still applies to MMOs. You can never go back to FFXIV 3.0 era, that was a thing of the time and it's GONE.
The main reason it would suck is progression, as Ster mentioned. One of the joys is going from low level to OP, if it's drip fed content you'll never be that naked dude running around with a club, ever again, and you can only escalate so far before it becomes meaningless. You need the hard reset of a new game, to get back that feeling of progression every so often.
i mean MMOs already do this lol, imo for them it is worth it because they actually do constantly add content
I used to get maybe one game a year and play the absolute hell out of it. E.g. I think Pokémon SoulSilver was AUD$40 back in 2010, and if we go by Jerma’s standard ($15 a month) then it’d be the equivalent of 2.5-ish months. I played it over and over until White came out a year later, so I totally got my money’s worth. If that was in a subscription service now I’d be paying at least $180 to play SoulSilver (12x$15 including other games though).
The only recent purchases I’ve made were Terraria on sale in December and Hylics last week ($11.12 total).
I play a few games a month, mostly stuff I already own physically (bought before sub services). I go months without spending a cent on games (I’m a uni student - no time or money).
Reminds me of how Netflix is like $17 a month - but I don’t watch $17 worth of movies every month! DVDs at charity shops cost $2 and I buy maybe 2 every few months.
Sorry for the big comment but I’m trying to contextualise why I dislike subscription service prices, at least by Jerma’s standard, and he’s proposing only 1 MMO/live service.
That last thing about the whole “you can’t change my mind” thing is on point. What’s the point of having an argument/conversation when you know neither side is going to budge on the matter?
the video commit is funny cause I already do that with FFXIV but its really fucking good and only sub when there is content for me to do.
I think it's fine to spend money on whatever you want. I personally love FFXIV, but it was such a moneysink and it's hard for me to find the time. I can't ever imagine doing that with a soulsborne game. I also can't imagine the From devs taking their precious time and resources on an excellent $60 game over one singular game that you would never have a flat payment for. It just seems scummy, like taking advantage of other users.
i want to own the games i play, actually
I love that the majority of the first responses are completely on board with it, and then as soon as they realise the idea is coming from Jerma all the believers hush up. There's something to be said about society with this.
Jerma is the type of guy who would get fat by eating pizza and drinking soda while playing a live service souls game 24/7
Most L take ever followed by most W take ever
it's like he missed the whole theme of the series
I think the basis for most massive human mistakes is taking something awesome and then making it notably worse so you can have more of it
Actually Armored Core was the first game they made like this, Jerma. Armor slots, weapon slots, stamina bar, dodging, the whole thing. Armored Core.
holy shit jerma just thought of the same exact thing that is happening in destiny two
also i hate that game it sucks balls
Chat: Hell no that's awful
Chat if that actually happened: Take my money now
Copium
Speak for yourself
The only game I would ever consider paying a subscription service for is OSRS and that game you can just buy membership with ingame currency really easily so it would be a waste of money anyways
Ah yes, Babylon's Fall. JERMA WHY
The last part about not knowing where its going is what Destiny 2 feels like, went from an actual good story to a weird mess :/
if I've learned anything from the 2010s is that even if you do have a really good MMO idea there's a very large chance the game would fail anyways. SoulsMMO would be lucky to get like five years before being shut down so it's way better to just have single player campaigns.
Supposing I spent 240 bucks on the game over the course of 2 year or so, and the amount of content they add made the game equivalent in content to four Dark Souls games, then hell yeah I"d totally buy into that. But that would never happen, mainly because I'm pretty damn sure even with them recycling content a single From Software Souls game takes longer than two years to develop.
If they did a thing where you could stop paying at any time, and you get to keep all the content up to that point but not get any future updates, that would be ideal.
You know what I wish FromSoft games had? Extra content for NG+. Not content removed from the game and locked behind NG+, but variations on existing content.
For instance, normally you meet Margit before Stormveil Castle, but guess what? Now you meet Morgot right away. And, he drops a new unique armament in place of his remembrance.
And when you do finally meet him in the capital, maybe he has one or more new moves, or something.
worst* 🤓
I hate the idea of paying a sub just to play a game but a mmo/live service style Dark Souls game would be awesome af only if they didnt stop making new souls like as well
GAAS makes games too grindy to keep players invested. It’s best that they drop a good game every few years than run one into the ground.
He's just describing FromSoft's attempt at Babylon's Fall.
This is worse than food mode
he just described destiny 2
Greedy streamer RANTS about paying MONEY while sitting on his FORTUNE of WEALTH like a KING.

GREEDY streamer suggest DARK SOULS should add MICROTRANSACTION! his GREED truly knows no bounds
Asking if I want a subscription based MMO is like asking if I want to take out a loan.
Also really funny that they got lost in-game while talking about games losing their impact when they go on too long.
Usually this ends up terrible, but I gotta say, it's worked out decently well for Trackmania. I would still prefer if I could just buy the game, but Trackmania 2020 has gotten tons of new content throughout it's lifespan, has no microtransactions, and is only 30 bucks a year, which isn't that expensive, so it definitely can work.
Not sure how well it'd work for Dark Souls though. I think part of why it works so well for Trackmania is that the map making tools are really good, so that allows them to pump out pretty good campaigns every few months easily, whereas constructing Dark Souls campaigns is probably way harder.
Jerma basically described dark souls destiny
That definitely is the absolute worst take I've ever heard. Miyazaki would never do that, I believe in him.
Bro to alter jermas idea a bit I would fucking love a MMO with souls combat, if that shit is at all possible to do, and I mean commit to the mmo bit, something like final fantasy realm reborn ya know? I mean if it were that big I would even pay a mmo sub for it for sure. But honestly a truly action combat mmo is something I've been wanting forever in a good mmo package.
Bro just described fallout 1st
“In practice it would probably be terrible. But-“
My brother in Christ, you suggested the idea 💀
Now listen, hes describing most openworld roblox games like Arcane odyssey and gpo but with a constant entry fee and not a single time payment.
I love World of Warcraft. One of my top 3 games of all time. But for the longest time I couldn't even play it because it's subscription based. Even today, after playing retail and classic and paying for them for a while, I still personally prefer playing on custom servers much much more. If retail was a one time purchase, I'd play the fuck out of it but as it stands I really will not as whenever playing I personally just feel like "I'm running out of time"
Don't get me wrong, a part of his idea does sound interesting. A souls-like MMO directly made by FromSoft would certainly be interesting. It just couldn't work as a sub-based live service game. (Also considering that like all the Souls games were rushed in the latter half and had content cut / massive changes and FromSoft's less than stellar networking and servers they'd have to be left alone for like 15 years to develop something like that on both a competent network and gameplay level)
He just meant a live service souls game. Which to be honest I thought elden ring would be their live service IP
Mr. Greene is taking over Jerma's mind.
they're already pumping out these games as fast as they can. giving them more money isn't going to make them come out any quicker let alone better
If souls like became games as a service, that might be a problem but I think it can be solve if a year or so later they will release a physical complete edition that can be played offline. Like how the games are played rn
I had this idea myself before. But really I just want a version of all the dark souls games with all their dlc content frankensteined together so I can play through all of it with one character
Dude like there's not enough live service. That would suckass
He's just describing wow, gamers are just too far up their own ass to admit Jerma is on to something
Someone actually likes live service games????
Destiny 2, fortnite, halo infinite, dbd, are some very likes live service games
@@snomandonly
I don’t know about Halo Infinite, they kind of dropped the ball on that one after having a hot start.
@@snomandonly I should rephrase that... someone actually likes live service as a concept? I like those games but I think most games that have them aren't made better by the feature. (I don't play MMOs but I assume that live service works for them and that there are probably other exceptions)
Jerma has the worst video game takes
This is far worse then shoving people into meat grinders.
he instantly regretted it and understood why it's a bad idea though tbf xD
A soulslike MMO would be insane and borderline unplayable.
A live service soulslike would make me end my subscription to life.
How would it be unplayable though? Most MMOs have horrible combat mechanics so I think it’d definitely be an improvement.
@@gvd72 The combat mechanics wouldn't allow for larger fights, so that's potentially an issue for an MMO specifically.
Still, the combat mechanics aren't too important. There's a lot more than just fighting to a Souls-game, and likewise for MMOs.
For instance, are there 1000 chosen ones, or are the players no more blessed than the NPCs around them..?
There can after all be only one Elden Lord.
I would rather drink gasoline than have a monthly subscription game. I would rather set myself alight than have a monthly subscription game. I would rather be hit by 7 trains than have a monthly subscription game. I hate subscriptions i hate subscriptions. I absolutely hate subscriptions. The fact i have to pay monthly for something that before could have been easily paid for, for 60$ actually enrages me to the point that i would rather take all of my money out of my bank and bring it to E3 (because game makers are there) and dunk it and myself in gasoline and tannerite and set it on fire. I will never subscribe to anything that doesnt need a subscription service. I have stress and anxiety for this reason alone. Money is a prominent thing in life and if i keep getting it sucked out of my bank account then what is the point? I can only go so far in a job, so why do i have to keep paying and keep paying if the subscriptors dont care about my well being? I cant live if this would actually happen.
I kinda agree with the guy when it comes to online component of it, because as it stands, the online in these games feels rushed and clunky. Like, soulslikes have superior gameplay to mmorpgs. I am a PVP player, and I would love this type of a game that is like an arena based game where you fight other players, find exciting artifacts, try out different builds and stuff. I mean, the monthly sub idea is crap, but an online-oriented soulslike? sign me up
He really should have sold it as specifically a Destiny style game
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
His Mr greenz coming out again
A soulsborne mmo would be cool, if done right.
A live service soulsborne would be shite.
I would actually love a genuine mmorpg with souls-like gameplay. They would have to find a way to implement something like rollback netcode into it in order to make it playable, instead of the laggy mess that souls multi-player usually is. Also, if existing souls games is any indication, balancing is going to be a nightmare.
And yeah, I mean genuine mmo, adding a live service to a souls game on it's own is just making the souls game unplayable offline for no reason, that would be a terrible idea.
What an innovative idea. You should suggest it to rockstar games!
oh wait...
No, lots of us play these games to escape live service hell. Please dont give them these terrible ideas.
