This review is so bad. I'm gonna give you one big hint: next time tell me how it works. What is the range, does it work long distance, can other phones ping it? You guys clearly got talent. But missed this one
I disagree. The video clearly states that it's just addressing whether it's worth the upgrade. It's not supposed to be a review of the product.

Have 6 Smarttags 1st generation. Already found kid backpack with tablet inside, so even one case show that smarttag worth to use.

I have about 6 of the Smart Tag plus and 8 of the Smart Tag 2. Ive been using them for maybe 2 years now (the 2 more recently). First, cases! Amazon sells all manner of after market cases for both models. Silicon cases, hard plastic cases, rubber cases, waterproofing cases. Take your pic. When i ordered my tags, i ordered the same amount of cases of choice. They come out of the box and go into a case, so not a scratch on 'em. And the cases are cheap. Since childhood ive had a propensity to lose things so these have been a huge help to me. Ive got one on anything that i cant afford to lose or misplace, or have stolen. I cycle for exercise, theres one hidden on my bike. Im a hobbiest woodworker, theres one in each of my tool boxes. Etc etc etc.

It's a tracker, not jewellery. It's mean to get beat up, scratched blah, blah, blah.......
As long as it works, who cares about scratches.
I was impressed my Smart Tag 1 battery lasted over 1 1/2 years. I only just today got my first notification to change the battery. But the smart tag 2 looks better and in AUS its starting at less than half the price of the smart tag 1. ST1 +$100 ST2 $44?
with which devices (smartphones) is it compatible?
Yeah, I have one of the first gen ones. I actually had to put something in there to keep the battery pressed in tightly enough to actually power it.
If you got Duracell batteries they have a Brita bad taste coating witch can cause bad connection, especially bad with airtags (get Panasonic batteries)
Whether the tag left behind option gives just a pop up notification or unique sound alert in phone?

hum, the first smart tag also did ring the phone when making a double press on the tag button ... it is not exclusive to the Smart Tag 2 🤨
Yes, but that didn't have AR tracking as shown in the video. Sadly, you do need special equipment to do that which was only built in about the last 3 generation of S Plus, Ultra and Z lineup.
@@philippg. i wrote Smart Tag, not Smart Tag + ;) which also had the AR, but it need UWB and indeed it's only on the Plus and Ultra lineup
it's still an upgrade in the sense of the battery duration, which is the main selling point for me, but all the features were in the previous gen (and since i have the S23 classic the Smart Tag was enough for me till today :) )

Pretty minor upgrades to warrant buying an entire new tag. I'm still waiting for a thin credit card sized tag for my wallet. That would sell well.

An extra year on the battery is enough to Warrant the purchase for me, especially since it's cheaper than the previous tag. He also forgot to mention some of the best new upgrades. The button Not only pings your phone, it is programmable to three different actions. I have one set to ping and two set to initialize different Bixby routines. Also If someone finds it, they can enter their information into the device by tapping their phone against it.Great for pets.
Hey. You say with tag 2 the AR fun tion comes as standard, but I was unable to find it. And also when looking on the app, the tag2 is not listed as compatible device with this function.
You need phone with UWB to use this. E.g s23 ultra

Does it work by just simply being near other androids? Or do those androids need to have a tracker app installed? Because I bought the TILE and it's useless unless I am nearby.. No one else has the tile app.. anywhere..
No app required. It pings automatically off other Samsungs (but not other androids).
AR tracking, this is the feature I was hoping to see!
I don't think it works. I couldn't find this option on my tag2

Only available on Samsung phones that support UWB (ultra wide band). Eg: S23 etc sucks

I have a question . Will the SmartTag work/connect from inside a bag or a hard case (Pelican) that media personnel usually keep our equipment in? Or does it have to be placed on the outside & exposed in order to do what it does?

It work fine inside objects (recommend really) the Bluetooth range will be slightly decreased (a lot if it's in a metal object like a metal box) and precise finding will likely not work very well (less then 10 meters or lower)
I have one in my car and my phone still manages to sometimes connect to it (20 meters away + a wall)

The Battery in my Smart Tag keeps dying (sometimes 2 weeks after I change the Battery) but I love it!
You may have to return it. It's supposed to last over 400 days

I like the "tiles" better because they also have an creditcard shapped one

I had a few Samsung SmartTags then I changed my Phone to a Google Pixel. You can't use them with any device other than a Samsung. It's the primary reason I'll not buy anymore Samsung tags. Gone to Tile now. Such a silly self defeating restriction
It's because Android as a whole doesn't have its own implementation (allegedly), so the likes of Samsung, Tile, etc. have to make their own API's and can't expect the likes of Motorola to include the API's in their own builds.
If Android built API's directly into the base OS, you'd be able to have Android-wide systems

Previous gen packaging was not actually plastic, there were just some elements of plastic in it.
I got the smarttag 2 but I have to admit besides them beeing really nice the battery seems to be a big lie or 2 of them are just empty? Both are empty now after 2,5-3 weeks of use. Samsung claims 2 years (1 if used often)
Replace them with Panasonic batteries and come back to here after a year

Wish they would / could come out with a metal cased tag. Something more durable that won't break / crack.
Metal blocks radio signals, a smart tag can't be made fully of metal

165 days smarttag 1?? No Battery life where did you get that from it's at least a year with a good battery (smarttag+ was bad less then 6 months and it randomly rebooted playing the battery inserted sound, smarttag 1 minimum a year)
buy good batteries as well (usually get Panasonic witch apple uses)
Major Downside with the Smarttag 1 and + was that the battery was not on a pull tab it was active in the box (a bunch of mine I never removed them out of the box to set up until I had to change the battery)
Airtag (always had pull tab) and now the smarttag 2 uses pull tab to connect battery up so you have a full battery from day 1
Does it support non Samsung Android devices ?
From what I understand it only works with Samsung.

clearly useless selling points to point out like "reducing plastic waste" tells me this is just a talking point.
I bought the 2nd generation samsung. It didn't work well as tile. The battery lasted a few days, and you have to go through a long process with samsung smart things app just to use it. It didn't always work. Stick to tile. Tile can be used on all phones, and has been around for long, so you have large users. This makes tile work better.
Samsung's network is WAY larger than Tile. That's the sad truth, so Samsung is still better.
Is there a safety lock so kids can't get into the button battery? That's a big downfall in my eyes if it's just a push open.
