@techwithbenefits what is the official app name to interact with the Samsung Galaxy smarttag2? I look in Google Play and it first shows Smart things them a dozen apps for Smarttag2! I only want the official Samsung app
Very comprehensive video. I bought 5 of the Smarttag 2's for our Africa trip; didn't have to track down any luggage but I could follow them through the various airport luggage systems on my Note 20 and Samsung tablet. Thanks.
say, when you did this with multiple items, did you get notifications when back in range or anything ?? or was each piece used in Find ?? trying to see if it will notify me on its own at baggage claim, or if i have to open the app and do something with it first... just picked up a 4 pack playing with them in the house... @JoelSc14 you'll have to check the settings for each and set it up on how you want to be notified and all that. I've set mine up to notify me when I leave certain things behind with the attached smart tag.
@bolupona was seeing a max of 2 for notifications when left behind... tried to add a 3rd and was notified of the limit.... probable one checked bag, one carry on for notifications, and personal item without notifications....🤔

Great review! I was running the Smart Tag 2 alongside my older Smart Tag+ and noticed immediately that it is lacking accurate and frequent offline updates. Note that the tag is NOT! in power saving mode. Now I understand the long battery life which is simply achieved by the infrequent updates and long time gaps between them. I bought it, but I am quite disappointed. I have a Samsung S23, and the 'Search Nearby' feature doesn't show the direction; it only indicates how strong the signal is, which is also quite inaccurate. After some research, I found out that even Samsung's flagship S line doesn't include the UWB chip needed for that feature :( You need model S23+ or S23 Ultra.
Thank you!! I'm on a really tight budget & I need something that's very reliable (like a phone, I can see EXACTLY where my husband is). I'm afraid to waste my money, so I'm going to keep looking.
So it basically functions like an Apple Airtag, will it not send a signal if there are no samsung galaxy devices nearby? (I'm planning on using it on my car which is in isolated parking space)

great video, i've subscribed... :-) everything is well explained... however, i did miss one thing... if i leave home in the morning without my phone will my smart tag 2 sound an alert..?
My son lost the tag one day, and I searched for it using the app. It told me it was nearby, and I went around in circles looking for it. Then it turned out it was located in the classroom, which was 3 storeys above me. This was the earlier version of the smart tag. I hope this version can also detect the exact location, including height distance.

Yeah tracking won't do that for a long long time. When driving I'm going around and around to get to the ground to drive out. Google thinks I'm going in circles and constantly fixes the route. You're good in the ground in a building no.
Thanks for all these infos! I just bought a smarttagg2 and the thing I was wondering is, on the location on the map the tagg always says that it is at home, even when somebody carry it around outside. I wanted to put it on my cat but, I will never know where it is, shouldn't it be updating while in range ?
Just got my tag. Thanks for your hints. In application let's say your luggage is tagged on a bus, and someone took it, could left behind function work as the tag goes further away from your phone?
That's correct. If the tag leaves your location or you leave the tags location and it isn't listed as safe place, the left behind notification would work!
A full detail of what smart things can do would be nice. I just got 4 smart tag2 and am struggling with some of the options and what this program can do with the tag and galaxy fold 4
It would be nice if one of the buttons could be used to measure distance during a hike. Is that possible? Or even if there was an app made to use the smart tag to measure distance.
Thanks so much for the great video! I just ordered one because my brother's truck was stolen a few nights ago and he was able to find where it was parked in. The cops went and arrested the 2 guys that stole it!
Great content! thanks. The only issue I have with this device is the map not updating as quick. It takes a very long time to locate the device on the map. And I live in NYC. Any settings that would improve the map location? Thanks!
Hi great video 👏 very informative, but just wanted to know if i use one to find my car in case of it being stolen is the theif able to detect my tag in the car as a tag thats close to him as "something being placed in his backpack " but it really being a tag tracking my car if all that makes sense?
It absolutely makes sense. Short answer is yes, you can use it to track a car, long answer, it would need to pass by a Samsung user to be "found" or the their would need to be a Samsung user. The unknown tag alert is a toggle that needs to be turned on in smartthings. I'm not sure the distance it needs to be to a phone for it to recognise it.
@@techwithbenefits Not sure the question (or setting) was understood. A guy steals Jim's car. Jim has previosly put a connected Smart Tag in it somewhere because he wants to track the car if it is stolen. The thief knows about Galaxy Smart Tags and he has a Smart Things app. This app has a feature, if he turns it on, that can tell him if a Smart tag that is not his, is in the vicinity ('has been put in his backpack'). He turns the feature on. Lo' there IS a foreign Smart Tag nearby, and he looks for and finds the Smart Tag in the car, smashes it, and drives the car off. No more trackng for Jim (what his goal was) but Jim may know the last place the Smart Tag was pinged, and that may be remotely helpful.
Thank you for the great video. I just got a Galaxy S24 Ultra and two SmartTags 2. Camera doesn't work on any of them, even being very close and without obstacles. I also don't get the message you get at 14:28 (You can use your phone's camera...). The camera icon seems to activate sometimes for a second but nothing shows on the screen. Any idea on what the issue might be?
I secreted one in each of my cars in an effort to confuse burglar Bill if he thought he had hit the jackpot when he found my tracker. I also recently borrowed one from my lesser car and stuck it in a suitcase. Quite good fun watching it do the rounds from the UK to Canada. I'm also surprised I can "see" the other tag in the UK from Canada. How does it do that?!
NOTE: 12:27 - You can only use ''Find Using Camera'' Feature if your Phone supports UWB. The following phones support UWB: Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold2. (And the newer Ultra phones...)
Thank you! I have a Galaxy A54 and just installed the Tag. When I press "search nearby" it doesn't show me the distance nor offer the camera feat like shown in the video. I just have the various "Tag is close/far" messages and the green circle and yes it's enough, esp. with the ringing function, as I use it only in my house. But after trying half an hour and googling I came back to this vid and wanted to post a comment and ask about the frigging camera feat but then stumbled upon your info. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much for this video, really helped me. I recently bought a Samsung and I was given the Smart Tag for free with the phone and I had no clue what it was or what it did😂😂 Thank you for clearing it up for me 😂😂
THX Just ordered 8 - video was helpful as I was not clear on the features and size almost got he older pro.. Use: keys, dog, luggage, laptop bag, home automation.
great video, thanks. question, can an automation be created, that notifies me that a Tag that i own, has entered a preset geo-location? in example, my 5 year old kid's Tag, thats in his backpack, and has entered my neighborhood because hes on the school bus coming home? i cant seem to find this type of automation.
I thought about the sufficient indicator and I think that's to minimise people overthinking the battery and feeling they need to replace it prematurely because of battery anxiety... ie, Low of 6-15% means you still have nearly 2 months of use, and even at 5% you will still have 18 days - that's a lot of time to change the battery.
What a great video! I'm thinking about getting these for luggage. I'm a magician and will be traveling to perform on a cruise in Hawaii. Don't want my stuff to disappear! 😅 - Are these Galaxy 2 tags a good idea or do you recommend something else like a Tile Pro or something? Thanks!
HI there I wanted to ask how would this would for something thats long range like lets say I'm going to Japan and want to toss a smart tag in my luggage so I can see if they come back and where they are if they don't. Thanks for this super helpful video :)
I got this tag a couple months ago and since I took it out of the box, it beeps randomly throughout the day. Is mine faulty or is there something in the settings I have to change?
You left out some KEY details in my opinion. 1. In order for the tag to ping off a nearby samsung device, does that device have to have bluetooth and/or location enabled for the ping to happen? 2. When searching for the tag "nearby" what features does the samsung device your are using need to be enabled?
1. It uses Bluetooth low energy and UWB, if the service is enabled (which I think it either is by default or there is a prompt) both of those will be on. BLE is always on I believe. 2. If you are searching nearby, all the relevant things will be turned on or you will be prompted to do so
@techwithbenefits thanks for the response! I use a Samsung S24+ phone. When you say BLE is always on, is this different than normal bluetooth? Im asking bc most people I know, leave Location and Bluetooth turned off (for battery efficiency) unless they are using them.
@MadFlavorz yeah it's different. BLE is a really low energy Bluetooth signal, used for searching for devices initially. if they are using the smartthings find service (which is what will "find" other people's devices, location would need to be on, and they would be prompted to have location on
@techwithbenefits hmmm ok. Not sure if you have a samsung device but when I go to Settings > Safety and Emergency > Unknown Tracker Alerts, it says my Bluetooth must be turned on (currently off) for this feature to be enabled. This makes me think BLE needs Bluetooth on. Ill investigate further. Thanks!
If another user with a Samsung phone passes near the smarting...do they have to have the SmartThings app downloaded? Activated? Or will any Samsung phone be able to detect and alert you about location? Thanks! Excellent video.
@NeutronCollapse - Extracted the following from Samsung UK - "If your SmartTag is out of the 120-metre range of the BLE (Bluetooth low energy) connection, it will require the help of the Galaxy Find network to be located. The Galaxy Find network is made from other Galaxy device users that have agreed for their devices to be used as Find Nodes. Find Nodes receive the signal from lost SmartTags and send the location anonymously to the SmartThings server, allowing for you to find your SmartTag no matter how far away it is."
I want to attach this tag on my bike to track it in case of theft. But witht the feature "un known tag" how can insure not to have the tag noticed by the thief?
Let's say I put it together with my keys and then lose it (my keys), and someone picks it up.... So what if the person retrieving the keys doesn't have the smart things app or hasn't set up smart things? Will it still work?
Smart tags are cool to have if you are trying to discover something you lost but I'm more interested in preventing my Dads phones from getting lost in the first place. He always loses his phones! Isn't there a way to wear a smartwatch and use the Bluetooth connection between watch and phone to alert him with a strong vibration when he walks away too far from his phone and that Bluetooth connection breaks? This would prevent him from ever losing the phone in the first place. Why isn't this invented yet? Or is it? Please help!!!
My galaxy watch is always connected to my phone. When connection is lost (because I'm too far), it gives a 1sec vibration and a disconnecting sound on my watch. I think u need to activate it in settings. Maybe that'll work. Or yoy can try Bixby routines setting up a command. If his watch disconnects from his watch it'll ring. Try setting that up
Great video! Can you connect it to two phones? I haven' found anything that shows how. I've invited my wife to the location but none of the tags show on her phone.
I am still confused about how it really works and searches the tag. does my phone need to constantly be connected to the wifi and gps location? If for example, I don't use mobile data and location turned on all the time because of the economy, i wouldn't be able to locate my tag location ? Does it work without the wifi and location at all?
The information of the tag is stored in a samsung server somewhere and it will push this information to your phone when you next load up the app. Of course, you'll need wifi or data for you to be able to see the information, but you can log into smart things find on a laptop and the process is the same. Locating the device, this is done via Bluetooth
I bought this so that in case my dog ever runs off, I can find him. I want to walk him off-lead and on wilderness hikes without worrying he stumbles upon an Antelope Jackrabbit and quickly disappears from sight. I am interested to test this with a seperate connected Samsung Galaxy s20fe. I am trying to make sure that if he goes far into the wilderness I can find him if the phone picks up a signal. I bought the smarttag2 mostly for precise location. Thank you for the video. I also would be interested if there were a way to link his location to my DJI Mavic Mini. That would be pretty snazzy if I could hook my drone up and get it to autofly to his location while I'm traveling to him. Hopefully it never comes to him running off. Wish me luck.
how do you find your phone with the tag? I've been looking for this feature for over 20 minutes. Their ads say you can do that , but I cant even find my tag in the app, yet a can do the reverse. The problem with the location finder is, it doesn't tell you if it's your phone or the tag they are tracking. I think most people would be carrying both at the same time.
I got a couple of tag 2 thinking maybe I could use it for my dad as he may potentially get stroke.. do you think it would be possible for him to use the tag button when he isn't feeling well and get notification sent to my phone ?
Good video, Question can a old phone use the Bluetooth feathers of the Samsung 2 tracker. I have a note 9 and is only android 10. Would be nice as I would not have to upgraded the phone right away. Thanks
Just a UWB precise AR finding is Unavailable ( without uwb once you're in range of the actual smart tag it gives you a power level metre so you can work out if you're closer or further away from the tag) And to be clear you need the S21 Plus or ultra or higher phone for UWB precise AR finding (fold 2 nor note 20 or higher as well)
still worth buying this product? or wait for something better coming over the horizon? i saw on reddit some users say to wait for google unified tag that suppose to work with all phones or something like that
The "Search Nearby" does not turn on the camera or show the arrows. It just says signal is getting stronger/weaker and it gets that wrong most of the times.
It would be greatfully appreciated if you could please do a in depth assessment of smart things as I am new to this aswell I was going to get the smart tag 2 and put it on my dogs collar on which I was after knowing if my dog walker was walking my dog far enough for the walk it would be greatfully appreciated if you think this tag will be useful for me pal okedokee m8e cheers for the work you do greatfully appreciated and great viewing pal okedokee m8e cheers again pal 👍 😀 👌

Unfortunately not as it doesn't have dedicated GPS. You'd probably be looking at a Smartwatch for something like that!
Can you perhaps use the location history for that use? I often use it for longer bike trips.
Thanks so much for the great video! I just ordered one because my brother's truck was stolen a few nights ago and he was able to find where it was parked in. The cops went and arrested the 2 guys that stole it!
You put it in the car
Thanks for the tips. Great video. I imagine I'll be visiting your channel many more times in the fututre
Excellent how you explained the device. Thank you
NOTE: 12:27 - You can only use ''Find Using Camera'' Feature if your Phone supports UWB.
I just got one and I am still trying to understand the SmartTag. Thank you for the video.
Yes, I have it ,loving it so far. Thanks, you're very informative .Andrew.Auckland,New Zealand .
Attached to keys.
nice video. just got my 4 pack today, to use in my 2 suit cases and 2 carry on :) will see how easy it is to load and use
great video, thanks. question, can an automation be created, that notifies me that a Tag that i own, has entered a preset geo-location? in example, my 5 year old kid's Tag, thats in his backpack, and has entered my neighborhood because hes on the school bus coming home? i cant seem to find this type of automation.
So it basically works like the apple airtag with a few extra features? Thanks for the review 👍
I bought my smart tag for an upcoming trip. Do I place the tag inside my suitcase or does it need to be outside?
Mine did the same thing, I changed the battery the battery. Hasn't done it since.
I changed my battery and the tag still beeps. Wtf.
@@trey8072 same, I called Samsung and I believe it's a defective tag.
Great video. I just bought 2 of these, and it's a great offer on Amazon 😊
Thanks!
@MadFlavorz ah that feature is more if someone has placed a tracker in your bag or in your pocket unknowingly to try and track you. Different feature!
I just picked up 2. Planning on using them while we are traveling.
Nice!
What is the max range on this?
What setting has to be on with the other person's device so it can help you locate what ever you lost.. or it just happens automatically
If another user with a Samsung phone passes near the smarting...do they have to have the SmartThings app downloaded? Activated? Or will any Samsung phone be able to detect and alert you about location? Thanks! Excellent video.
Nope.
@@allenpattiselanno "Nope" the other guy doesn't need to have the App installed or "Nope" it won't be able to detect and alert you?
Just activated mine. Thanks for the help understanding its features.
Let's say I put it together with my keys and then lose it (my keys), and someone picks it up....
So what if the person retrieving the keys doesn't have the smart things app or hasn't set up smart things? Will it still work?
I ordered the package of 4. Only 2 manage to connect, two others overrun the connectivity of the previous two in order to connect. Very frustrating
If I have a Samsung with Smart Tags, Can I use the search function to find Apple Air Tags that might have become a hitch hiker on my vehicle?
Try setting that up
Can you use it for capture on selfie mod ? :D
Question does SmartTag2 can excess your private info on your phone when you connected or after link with your phone?
Another great video, keep it up.
Thank you!

Hi good video, but you did not comment on the instructions that come with the tag, I for one can not get the QR code to open on my Samsung s23 Ultra
Great video! Can you connect it to two phones? I haven' found anything that shows how. I've invited my wife to the location but none of the tags show on her phone.
You would have to use the same Samsung account on both devices
Can this be used to find pets eg a dog? a cow?...If so, within what range ..of you home and/or your phone?
Thankyou.
Absolutely has a pet mode that can be enabled! I did mention it a little late in the video but it's there for sure
120 meters
I am still confused about how it really works and searches the tag. does my phone need to constantly be connected to the wifi and gps location? If for example, I don't use mobile data and location turned on all the time because of the economy, i wouldn't be able to locate my tag location ? Does it work without the wifi and location at all?
The information of the tag is stored in a samsung server somewhere and it will push this information to your phone when you next load up the app.
Of course, you'll need wifi or data for you to be able to see the information, but you can log into smart things find on a laptop and the process is the same.
Locating the device, this is done via Bluetooth
Thanks for an informative video. Nice explanation.
Great video. I can tag myself so I won't get lost. =) No, but really, this is a good video and keeping it simple to understand. Thanks
I know that you can set it to do that. Push the button on the tag and you'll get a notification/text on your phone or tablet.
This is pretty incredible tech!
Do all Android devices participate in the Samsung Smart things find network or do these devices need the SmartThings app installed?
Can i use this to track my trucks or lawn equipment?
Good video, Question can a old phone use the Bluetooth feathers of the Samsung 2 tracker. I have a note 9 and is only android 10. Would be nice as I would not have to upgraded the phone right away. Thanks
Just a UWB precise AR finding is Unavailable ( without uwb once you're in range of the actual smart tag it gives you a power level metre so you can work out if you're closer or further away from the tag)
And to be clear you need the S21 Plus or ultra or higher phone for UWB precise AR finding (fold 2 nor note 20 or higher as well)
How close do you have to be to the smarttag2 to make it ring?
After configuring the device on smartthings, can I use tracking on another non-Samsung smartphone?
Great in-depth review. Cheers
still worth buying this product? or wait for something better coming over the horizon? i saw on reddit some users say to wait for google unified tag that suppose to work with all phones or something like that
Just wanted to know if you know how to turn on the camera to locate the Samsung smart tag 2 I have Samsung S24 Ultra and get no camera button?
But if you drop your item in a field it won't be found unless someone else walks past the place you lost it. So really only of use in urban areas?
