    Aha! No one is going to GIVE you permission to be the expert. Call yourself the expert and then back it up with your work.

    I agree. The moment I stuck "Specialist" or "Professional" in my resume and portfolio title I had hundreds of brands and recruiters contacting me, and I had the experience and the skills to back it up. I ended up making an experiment and created 12 different resumes with just slightly different titles all for the same thing and specialist ended up getting me hundreds of written responses.

    Hi Dan, great content. I listen to you everyday and I learn each day. You ignite energy sleeping within me. Listening to you is like a success revolution. Just like listening to Rage Against the Machine, they make you pump. I know this video is a more than a year old, I just want to comment on Will branding attempt. He could name himself the Plot Wizard, as he find solution using his creativity in cinematography. I feel that the word plot has so much dimensions that it excites people because it could be twisted or a big turning point to a story. Just my two cents.

    I see a connection between claiming the turf of being an expert at [X] and Dan’s concept of “me too - me better - me only”. Create the perceived difference through clever wordsmithing, then back it up with expertise and excellent customer experience. Great video as always!

    It is amazing how you can change the perception of people around you, sometimes with only a little tweaking of words. Thank you for making me realize that you can make your name into a branding "power punch".
    Would it make sense to make your personal brand known under a different name for Chinese audiences? Maybe something that resonates more with them. Or would that hurt your consistency?

    • @DanLok
      @DanLok  7 років тому +9

      I would say a great entrepreneur before you are 60 years old. 1) it's more fun. 2) Great investors invest money into great entrepreneurs. After 60 years, transition more than an investor.

    If you are using a name for business. is there a legal process you have to go through. like I like to keep my legal name, but as for business and how I present myself I like to keep using my business name as if it is my own name. but I like to protect myself with it as much as possible.

    • @DanLok
      @DanLok  7 років тому

      Minnie, if you want to protect a brand or a name, you need to trademark it. Otherwise, you might get into trouble OR other people might steal your name. I use trademarkfactory.com

      Dan Lok Thanks. My question was more focussed on this video where you mentioned branding yourself for a specific market, e.g. " Dan Chan the best wedding man. "
      Will do some more research on the branding and marketing example you've just given.

    Dan Lok sounds better because you dropped the "iel" part. Heck, even in the original Karate Kid... "Well, well, well, if it isn't our little friend Danielle. Hello Danielle." Dan just shows that you're more serious and not to be messed with. Just my thoughts.
    For me personally, I'll keep to "David" because it's the serious way to pronounce my name. "Dave" is okay, but it's casual. "DavEY"... is for those people who have a death wish. F*** no! :)

    Apostle Peter is my professional name but my full name is Ayowale Peter Oloje. Dan Lok Sifu, please do you think I should maintain that name "APOSTLE PETER" or change it?
    Apostle was given by a senior colleague after an event where I spoke. He just said I think you are an Apostle of Wealth. He further broke meaning of Apostle down as a vigorous and pioneering advocate or supporter of a particular policy, idea, or cause. And the cause am known for on Facebook and among my peers is wealth and prosperity lolz.

    F.... the fact that they can t pronounce your Chinese name. Actually it is quite interesting to have that pluralism in the world. You having the type of influence you have right now, should not give a damn if they cannot make an EFFORT to learn a name. After all we should all be more open to different cultures and names are part of that . They are part of our identity and more now than ever because we belong to a global community of english speaking individuals . Being unique and also recognisable should not be difficult. By the way your name has interesting connotation too. Lucky you.
