I’m 13 and I finally went to sea world yesterday for the first time. When I rode this ride I loved the airtime and I didn’t feel very uncomfortable when going back down. I loved feeling like I was flying and when it first dropped I was so anxious because I don’t think I have been on a roller coaster with that big of a drop but in the end I loved it lol
Rode this for the first time today --- it was painful. The airtime is fun, but on the bottom of the hills I got slammed into the seat. Only rode this ride once as a result.
Haven't ridden it yet, I'll visit when Wave Breaker is running. I don't think new trains would fix this. It's the track design. This coaster came out in 1999, which means it was designed in 1997 or so. I'm sure they had CAD programs, but nothing like they do today. B&M figured out the heart roll thing, and Alan Schilke took it to a whole new level. Ejector isn't fun if it pops you up then slams you back down. Then again, I just checked, Steel Force came out in 1997, Mamba came out in 1998, Wild Thing in 1996. So how did they mess this one up?
The same exact trains and seats that are unpadded. It’s just that steel eels airtime is way stronger so you feel like your getting slammed down that’s how you notice the seats are uncomfortable
Taylor, do you think it would be a lot less painful if you push your restraint down all the way? (Or even better, if it has a seatbelt you could tighten it all the way instead) That way you wouldn't get jerked back into your seat from the airtime because you wouldn't leave your seat. I haven't been on the coaster so I don't really know if that would work or not :P
It's always fun when you review something from one of my home parks. This was the coaster that really turned me into an enthusiast. I understand your complaints, but I can't help but love Steel Eel's aggressive nature. I've ridden it so much that I guess I've grown used to it. I guess that would explain why I thoroughly enjoyed Desperado at Buffalo Bills, as it produces a similar effect. Looking forward to your review of Road Runner Express at SFFT!
I totally agree. In fact, I think this would be an excellent ride if they used the lap bar system that is used on Apollo's Chariot or similar B&M coasters.
I actually quite enjoyed this coaster. Yeah, the smaller airtime hills towards the end do slam you down kinda hard, but I still thought it was fun. I rode it like 10 times when I went to Sea World. And no, I am definitely not GP lol. Padding or something like that would definitely make this ride a lot better though.
As local Passholder, I've ridden Steel Eel many times. The ride does vary throughout the day and year. There are times when it can be painful but the more I rode it last season, the less painful it was. Granted I try not to pull the lap bar down the whole way...
now i haven't ridden it, and i like big drops and hills which it does have, it has airtime but i don't know how painful that is, but i think i would like this coaster and still find it to be very fun since it isn't rough or anything and does have the speed and height.
They should put padding like the padding on Tennessee Tornado. Seriously, I think that ride wouldn't be fun if it didn't have the padded seats it has. The padding and it's good layout make it by far the best arrow looper I have ridden, and probably the best arrow custom looper in the world.
I liked Steel Eel when I first rode it, but after that, I felt like this thing could be nearing the end of its service life. It feels super rough and looks like a cheaply made coaster for a park such as SeaWorld. I hope that the area where the station is now would be replaced by some type of indoor attraction, such as Wild Arctic or a better version of Empire of the Penguin. That section of the park seems very empty and could use an air conditioned attraction for guests to take a break from the Texas heat. Indoor attractions is definitely something this park is lacking more than roller coasters, especially for an animal park like SeaWorld. I'm glad that they're finally adding a sea turtle exhibit to the park, but was deeply disappointed that it's an all outdoor attraction featuring two little kiddie rides instead of a TurtleTrek theatre (or better yet, make a VR version of TurtleTrek using the same platform as their successful Battle for Eire attraction at Busch Gardens Williamsburg).
I feel this deserves a Coaster Parody! From Morgan, a company that makes some "Meh" hypers, comes another "Meh" hyper. STEEL EEL! You loved the power and speed of Mamba at Worlds of Fun, now prepare yourself to say "Meh" once again, as you ride what is considered by the GP as the best ride at Seaworld San Antonio, but that's not saying much. Climb up to a lackluster 150 feet, as you begin to pray for forgiveness, because trust me... Your butt will hate you for what's about to happen next. Drop down into an airtime hill, followed by another airtime hill, which leads to... _another airtime hill._ And just you feel like your spine is about to tear out of your back, hit the mid-course break run, and enjoy those few seconds of healing, because you're about to hit the best part of the ride... _A mediocre banked turn._ (But hey, you get pretty good Gs!) But don't get used to that level of fun, because you're about to hit another airtime hill, which is followed _another airtime hill,_ which leads to... _ANOTHER AIRTIME HILL!_ Then once you reach the end of the ride, if you managed to survive this nightmare without suffering a broken pelvis or permanent paralysis, then congratulations, you just conquered what could qualify as the most painful hyper in existence. I mean, seriously, when the Batman B&M is better than your hyper coaster, you really need to rethink your ride! Even Shamu Express is better than this! No wonder Six Flags Fiesta Texas has a better turnout. *_STEEL MAMBA! RIDE IT NOW_* (And prepare to seek medical attention afterwards...) *_AT SEAWORLD SAN ANTONIO!_*
I actually didnt have a problem with this ride until i sat in back row. I personally found that the magic seat on this ride is car 4, back row, right side.
I remember the last time I rode Steel Eel in 2011, I saw these yellow styrofoam paddings that they put around the lap bars in like 2 rows toward the middle, so if you ever go back and they still have the paddings, try riding with one of those and see if it makes a difference.
It's super painful. Whenever I was at the top of the hill I felt like I was gonna fly out, and when it got to the bottom my butt would slam into the seat.
@@michaeldunnican5795 Facts right there. I don't mind getting slammed up and down, I mean, its annoying but you'll get used to it. And the feeling of "falling off" is high up there but its fun! But hey thats my opinion. I'm 13 lol
Opinions of coasters are pretty subjective and circumstantial. After riding both for the first time this year, I enjoyed this one and thought Magnum XL 200 was one of the most painful/worst I've ever been on. On a different day, in a different mood or a different seat, my opinion could flip.
To me, the style of track looks almost similar to what can be found on Arrow and older Vekoma coasters. If you did a coaster parody of Steel Eel, I could hear that "Should've gotten a B&M".
I agree with you 100%. The drop is really funky as well. I think if they fix the trains and the drop this ride will be like Mamba. Do you think Steel Eel is the worst thrill ride In Texas currently?
Lori Stephens their park is amazing you get great views of their quarry walls and all of Their coasters are great,my favorite one there is super man but if you stay there till night time I recommend you keep riding Goliath which is at the front of the park and when I usually go there it's not crowded the lines are pretty decent definitely a big recommend and batman is awesome too!
I have, and it is hands down the best coaster in Texas! It is a bit short, but it packs a serious punch! Definitely take either the front or back row for the best rides.
Yea i bet. I am also making a trip to six flags over texas while i am over there and am looking forward to New Texas Giant, Titan,And Mr freeze reverse blast. If anyone has been to Over Texas could you tell me how those rides are as well.
New Texas Giant is a long ride full of fun airtime. Titan has an amazing first drop and some truly intense g-forces. Mr. Freeze Reverse Blast is really unique; the hang time on the vertical spike is awesome, and the backwards launch really makes you feel like you're being thrown forwards. Also, don't forget to check out Shockwave, it's a classic looper with forceful inversions. All of SFOT's steel coasters are totally smooth and comfortable.
Do you still need pictures? Because you dont do the segments where you need alot of pictures for. (news updates, construction updates etc.) And you also never make any videos anymore from anything in europe or asia
They look like that so they don't block the path. It crosses over the path like 3 times, and they are positioned that way so they are all around the path.
See that I disagree with. Its a different kind of pain. Skyrush is only painful because of the restraints. With this, you actually lift up out of your seat and get thrust back down in a painful manor.
The Derpinator All these Morgan hypers use the same trains. He really likes Mamba, a ride more reminiscent of Steel Force than this. I rode Steel Force in July 2016, and I thought it was pretty smooth.
Sounds like it. Lol. Mamba is probably my second favorite roller coaster at Worlds of Fun, right behind Timber Wolf. When is the Timber Wolf review coming?

Rode this for the first time today --- it was painful. The airtime is fun, but on the bottom of the hills I got slammed into the seat. Only rode this ride once as a result.
I got to argue, you got to try multiple rows, like the front doesn’t slam you at all, and just brace yourself
So, would simply padding the seats make this coaster a lot better than it is now?
That would definitely help.
Hey, do you know if they ever added padded seating on this thing yet?
@@CoasterStudios
@@ThemeParkHorizons just rode it today, and they did not add padded seats.

I rode it 3 times one in the middle one in the back and one in the front. Front and back sucked but middle was not painful at all
But aren't the trains on this coaster the exact same ones that are on mamba? What's different? Does mamba have the same trains but different seats?
The same exact trains and seats that are unpadded. It’s just that steel eels airtime is way stronger so you feel like your getting slammed down that’s how you notice the seats are uncomfortable
Painful airtime? Have you ridden Manhattan Express?
yup
I rode it yesterday lol I still have the migraine
Firey_ I think it is super bad, but every time I go to Vegas I still go to it :p probably cause it is kinda the only thing for my age

In 2019, the coaster in the front row gives great air with less pain, the back gives great ejector, just you have to brace your body for the valleys
They should have a ride like this at sfdk, because of the height limit, but make it b&m instead.!
I have ridden this ride I found it not a bad ride. Yeah it's not the best but not as bad as u are saying it is

GABRIEL Sarriera he's in Virginia
i think he ment Utah instead of san Antonio.
I saw it on the Top 10 Worst Coasters list when you were showing a bunch of clips. Was it close to making the Top 10 Worst?
Green lantern at Magic Mountain was in the clips too but he really liked green lantern so idk why those coasters were in the video.
those coasters were picked for that because they're coasters that are generally disliked.
I rode this

Know what if they put chance morgans new hyper G-TX trains that are used on lightning run. Would that make the overall rides comfort better?
Do you post videos everyday at 2pm ET?
yes
Taylor can not wait to see your reaction to lightning rod
So 1pm CT.
What I do is that I ask if they can loose up the lap bars so it can be a little better but I hold on the car so you would feel like falling out

Wild Thing is the same way, over the airtime hills you would slam down and it kinda hurt. The trains are terrible.
I rode this coaster yesterday and the lap bars were 8 inches above my lap
Do you like Steel Force?
