Love your ideas! To get more breakup in the crackle, you have to put the paint on in a random pattern both vertically and horizontally. The more strokes you make the better. Allow the drag of the brush to leave some of the background showing for added contrast. You can also antique on top of the crackle finish after you have added a top coat and allowed it to dry
thank you so much for sharing this crackle technique! i particularly liked the last few you showed. the pink and violet flower napkin overlay was beautiful. this is on my list to try!
HELLO FROM AUSTRALIA. Thank you for sharing your artistic talents on the channel. I'm only a beginner and I have learned so much and have wonderful ideas to create and have fun. My budget is blown out since I've been watching, been adding to my abundance of craft accessories and just now received a parcel containing all sorts of stamps, blocks, stencils, wax melts, micro powders etc. etc. I have 3 A-Z concertina files filled to the brim with all manner of 12x12 scrapbooking paper and was at a loss how I could use it. I'm now really inspired to make junk journals, pockets, tags, rice and various papers and soforth - all from the wonderful videos you produce. The epherma turned out beautiful. I photographed one of your covers that featured a flower, enlarged, printed it and used it as a template to make a glue gun flower. Thrilled with the result and can't wait to use for a project. A big thanks and please never stop filming your educational, creative work. I am curious where you live - love your accent (French???). Cheers from ANNETTE - AUSTRALIA.
Thanks for responding. I'll get through all of your videos as I get time. I really enjoy your narrative, easy to follow instructions. You are so natural, down to earth. Although it's not possible, I'd love to see your setup and rat through all your goodies and view you working your magic. The way you have created stencils - amazing along with your sharing affordable substitutes. I made a big mistake the other day doing ephemera. My glue and gesso in similar containers and of course unlabelled. I used the gesso by mistake and what a mess! Immediately labelled everything. A lesson learned. I'm happy to support your channel and enjoy your sharing. Best wishes. AUSTRALIA - ANNETTE. 😊
I have been trying to make crackle paste for about six weeks, with no success. Your gesso recipe worked!!! Another success story for you my friend. I admire all of your art and wish you the best of everything. Thank you. : D
Yet another new method to add to my 'Noit notes'. Thank you. I wonder if I will ever work my way through your wonderfully generous selection of videos? I'm certainly enjoying the challenge 🤓
All live on camera ha ha ha Noit Art I so often have to laugh with your funny humoristic comments :) Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I am a big fan of Shabby Shic so thank you for this, it looks great the crackles !! ♥
Oh my, you are so ingenious and I love your methodical approach to experimenting. I am obsessed with crackle. Honestly, obsessed. I prefer like the finer crackle but I like the big wooden looking cracks, too. The napkins are gorgeous on the crackle background. So glad I subscribed to your channel. Keep teaching me!
I ran into this accidentally and loved the result. I didn't think of doing it with gesso though so I'll have to experiment with that. I do love how the napkins look on the crackled background.
Love this idea! I might try putting tissue paper and then cut out napkin images for those with darker, busier backgrounds. Keep these ideas coming please😁
There you go again, Noit, showing us another clever and “old school” way of creating techniques without having to buy all the stuff. I really like all the examples you showed, and I believe my “most favorite “ is the one with the cherubs. The floral one is very cool too. I have been wanting to do this technique and havet wanted to buy crackling paste. I remember, quite some time ago, someone used these simple products to make a cool piece, but forgot how and haven’t googled it yet. Perfect timing, my dear, as I’m still working away making holiday cards and have wanted to do this on a few of them. Thanks, Noit! 🌿🍁💐🍂🌿 (a little friend bouquet just for you.)
What a wonderful effect you achieved by doing this! I can't wait to try this myself and i only hope mine will turn out as great as yours!!! Thank you so very much for sharing!!!
I love the crackle look and now I know how to get the effect with things I already have I shall be crackling everything! I now use filler rather than molding paste because of the way you used it & now glue with gesso is another thing I'm grateful to you for!
Wow amazing. It’s June 2022 & I just found your video and am about to give this a try. I couldn’t afford all the expensive brands, so I really appreciate you sharing this simple affordable way to get crackle… thank you 💜
You may want to check your youtube settings....while watching this, there were at least 4 “commercials”...some other you tubers have had the same issue and discovered that YT had changed their settings. Love your work and how these turned out with the napkins. I think I’m definitely going to try it.
Greetings from Portugal. It crackles because acrylic Paint dries faster than the glue, and the Direction of strokes. Love your cheap and Clever ideas and tips, specially stencils and stamps diy. Nice accent, also 😉. Thanks for sharing 🌻
Thank you this is a great technique and good enough for what I want rather than spend a fortune on bought crackle paste. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks so much for sharing! I saw the glue thing 3years ago,and I forgot about it lol. I like the gesso one too! And oh wow the napkins looks awesome! The black &a white one looks like birch bark! Thanks again now I can use up more napkins yay! Take care 💜😄
Thank you for showing these wonderful effects! What type/brand of glue are you using? Is it working with any type of glue? I have PVA glue and acrylic matte gel.
thank you so much for this. i have bought crackle mediums and had no luck with them. this idea is so much better and am looking forward to trying it. thanks xxx
Great job. On the blue with glue side, you painted up and down. On the side with the gesso, you painted up and down and then dabbed the brush around. I wonder if after you paint up and down with the acrylic, if you dab your brush all over it if it would give you those small breaks like in the gesso one. Hope this makes sense. I love the effect you get using these techniques and adding the napkins. TFS.
Noit Art Let me try again... with the acrylic paint, go up and down all over the page like you did in the video. After you have painted the whole page, take your brush and in a few places - go over it across. I think that will help the acrylic to crackle more like the gesso did. That will break up the strokes of your brush. Does this make sense? Where do you live? I’m in the US.
Hi Pam, the crackle pattern is affected by the base coat, not the top coat of paint. If you want finer cracks, apply the base coat in the same up and down motion, but in shorter lengths and thickness. The top coat will then crackle, following the lines of the base. Hope this helps. phyllis from Michigan
I know this is an older video, and I have watched a few about crackle was not very impressed with it but seeing this is changing my mind expecting with napkins they seem to show more depth,I did hear that you should move the brush one way up and down or sideways but you did both and it looked great to me
Dear Noit ,this is absolutely mindblowing!!superb!thk u so much for teaching us this technique! Will it work with homemade Gesso?I'll try all sorts of experiments n hope I don't get disappointed!
Noit that’s so awesome and amazing and stunning. I really love 💕 this.......I’m definitely going to try this out, I loved the one you made into a Greeting card. But they’re all so awesome in their own way.....and you’re a very clever cookie!!!!!!!! xx Mags
Que pena no hablar su idioma !!!, y aún así, aprendo viéndola trabajar, muchas gracias por compartir sus maravillosos trabajos, auténticas obras de arte !!! GRACIAS !!!!
Brilliant I was looking at crackle medium it was very expensive, this looks even better, the frugal way Thank you Noit I love your experiments. I Love the card with the Yellow flowers. possibilities are endless
Very impressive and I appreciate you sharing this great idea. I had my volume on full but struggle to hear. When you did the actual crackle did you say it was white glue and not your home made 'Modge Podge' which has water added?
Believe it or not I need this right now. I wanted some crackle spots on the piece I made for my daughter but my crackle paint wouldn't crack. It was old and I put water in it. I'm going to do this and we'll see. What's the worst that can happen, right? Thanks!
Another adorable tutorial- it is so interesting - I have been creating & trying some of your ideas- constantly-hahah- not bad for an 89 year old - thank you noit again- Margalit
These finished projects are fabulous! I love the tags and the floral one is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your research with us. -Marsha from Texas

The purple is great purple grunge. I love it. All of them all.

This textured art reminds me of the crafts my mom would make with her notebooks. She would take clay and use it to mimic a leather cover.
Interesting, thanks for watching

Thank you Pam. Sorry, didn't understand. But I am "go with the flow" I am not trying to control the crackle, whatever the outcome is fine by me :)
