Imagine telling Accuracy is too high when the Sturm Tiger literally needs to elevated the main gun to engage at range. Also, this is Warthunder, Gun accuracy is depends on the player to aim.
@Joe bruh, you're telling me a battleship would engage a tank at 2km range?? Battleship optimal range is 10-20km, a freaking 16inch maximum range is 24km.
This was cool to watch. Fun matchup. Sturm's rate of fire however was 1 round every 10 min. HE not AP. Provided the ships guns could deppress low enough i'm thinking there woyld be a lot scrap metal on the dock after the first exchange of fire...still and all loved watching this. Good one.
At that angle of attack on the warship the magazines would have never been hit. Especially by an HE Mortor round. Also, with only 83mm of penetration those rocket Propelled mortor rounds are only doing surface damage except for the pilothouse of most of the ships. Even with plunging fire the rounds are not direction blasts so the rounds would still explode and cause blast damage but not set fires right away. The concussion blast would actually put out fires and move light flammable objects away before they got hot enough to ignite. Shipboard firefighting 101 right there.
@Joe This is half true. The mortar was intended for coastal defense, firing depth charges against submerged submarines, which would not entail the ability to penertate a ship's deck. The rocket projectile was developed explicitly for the Sturmtiger. Even still, I don't think it would be able to reach the magazine of anything larger than a destroyer, ships are just too dense.
The vehicle wasn't intended for use in coastal defense (doubt it could have been used effectively against any type of moving target really). It was intended to be a bunker-buster with the ammunition being capable of penetrating almost 3 meters of reinforced concrete, which is way tougher than the armour of anything other than a battleship.
The main guns on the bigger ships have a much longer range then the range of the Sturmtigers' guns. The ships could have stayed out of range and blow the heck out of the dock and the Sturmtigers without having to worry about being hit.
@@stareye3176 Salvo from 9x305mm guns is 9x470kg shot at 900m/s. A hit of such a single projectile leaves crater wider than 10 meters. Those 4 tanks would've just been blown into pieces even by indirect hits. Even medium artillery like 152mm light cruiser guns or 100-152mm Kronshtadt secondaries would be perfectly enough to destroy a tank from mere 200-300 meters at any angle.
Hell I'm sorry, there's no way to build a tank with enough armor to withstand even a light cruiser's 6 inch gun with the velocity those AP shells would have at what's basically in naval terms...point blank range. And to miss shots that freaking close to your target is a sin. And agreed those rocket propelled mortars wouldn't stand a chance against typical armor scheme of every ship here except the torpedo boat and the frigate. The sure don't have the velocity or the ballistics of flight needed that shells have from a rifled gun.

If the warship keep their distance, it will be a one-sided battle. Since the subject of this video is Sturmtiger, we are fighting at this close range to make it a fair fight.
The German tank Divisions found out what it was really like to be on the receiving end of 16" (403mm) Battleship guns, 15 Miles (24km) away, during the fight for Northern France in 1944 - HE shells. They'd had a taste of it when they fired on RN destroyer in Fall of France in 1940, and they were on y 4" (100mm) guns - but with AP shells.
@Joe Actually documented by the Germans, that it was members "Brandenburg Special Services Unit", that shot at their own border guards to provide the excuse to invade. They tried the same "trick" again when they invaded The Netherlands and Belgium, 7-8 months later.
The 6" AP rounds from the light cruiser should have had no trouble punching through the Sturmtiger's armor at that range. The 15" HE shells from the Kronstadt's main guns would have blown the Sturmtigers to pieces, and the 15" AP rounds would be like, "Did I hit something?"
You could really sense the enormous firepower a BB tier ship had, imagine actually being the little guy in a battlefield facing such enemies at a close distance...damn.
The trajectory is the real game changer in here, by plunging it could bypass the thin armoured deck of the ships (some ships) and Stürm has a 38cm rocket.
Naval guns could score plunging fire hits at distance. Naval architects designed defenses for that like turtleback armor. Some warships definitely had armored decks, British ships dome to mind.
@MartyInLa The turtleback armor scheme was designed for close ranges, which is why the Bismarck proved difficult (but not impossible) to sink. It's a WWI armor scheme.

Battleship shells were flipping Tiger tanks in Normandy like a young child throwing a tantrum. I can see the Sturmtiger rounds being a threat to Cruisers and smaller ships, but not Battleships. But this is an arcade game, I guess. If we want to be real, these ships would be shelling the Sturmtigers from afar.
@Joe The batteries of AA guns and possibly secondary guns would be more than a match for a handful of armored vehicles. Yes, at that range the main guns would useless on most battleships but in terms of raw power difference let me put it this way, I believe it was Wisconsin who was engaged by 155mm ground based artillery in Korea and responded with a full broadside from her 16in battery, obliterated the artillery and everyone else in the area while receiving no discernable damage and only a few injured crew members. Battleships are just on a whole other level of firepower. Even their secondaries are equivalent to most light cruisers.
