I got to give a shout out to my mum and dad. I was 7 in 85 and onto my 3rd bmx. We didn’t have much money but they made sure I had the coolest bike if nothing else. I miss the 80’s😢
Growing up in the UK, had a Raleigh Mag Burner, same scheme with the wheels and tires ... blue frame .. brings back memories ... Couldn't afford the imports back then ... !!! ... Dreamed of a Redline or Diamondback ... beauty this!
I was basically the big cheese with a RL-20B back in the day.. After someone begged me to sale it to them in '93 I got a junk Diamondback for jumps.. GT Performer was my favorite "vintage" bike..
Didn't R.L Osborne end up riding for Huffy after Redline.Huffy & Ross I always remember those bikes sucking very heavy.Great build.I had A P.L 20 RedLine got it for x-mas one of my favorite gifts thanx to my parents.
I like your Videos Jim Ed they bring back a lot of memories of a simpler time for me. On this one, I especially liked how you built up this great old school bike. But the references to 1985 pop culture were slightly off. By 1985 the Members only jacket was gone and while Vans never really went out of style, the checkered Vans were also not as popular anymore. The Swatch watch was accurate and the Stryper concert shirt was right on. Now a mullet would have been the icing on the cake for sure. Enough of my nit picking. I really like your bike rebuilds and your "that was radical" catch phrase. Keep em coming. Gen Xers rule the universe!
I'm building a Redline for my son and a Haro for me. His bike is squared away, parts wise, but I'm still lacking a 1 piece crank and sprocket. I love that snowflake sprocket, but Porkchop doesn't have any on their website. Love Porkchop! Purchased quite a few items from there and Planet BMX for these bikes I'm building. My Haro is a Mike Dominguez 2014 frame and fork set. I need a 1 piece crank with a 44T sprocket, but I can't find a combo that pleases me. Well.. except for your setup here, just in red or even polished. The theme is all chrome with red accents. Man... I don't know what to do. My son just turned 8 and I'm from the 70's / 80's era of bikes. I was very poor like a lot of kids and couldn't afford these kind of bikes, but I wanted to do this for him and be a part of it with him. Maybe you have an idea on a crank and sprocket combo? Thank you Jim for this video too! All of them. It's given me great ideas for my bikes.
First, let me say thanks so much for watching the videos... Sounds like you have some rad bike projects coming up soon! Wish I could be a better help in your search for the one-piece crank and 44T chainring, but Porkchop and Planet BMX would be my recommends and you've already checked there. I am planning my next build and will keep this in mind... If I run across something I think you'd be interested in I'll follow up. Take care!
Didn't forget about you... Keep checking Porkchop. That's my go-to. I've been in talks with him and there's more parts on the dot com now and lots more coming soon. I've also got a new project in the works I'm super stoked about so keep watch for the next Gym Ed's Bike Shop retro BMX build too. Stay rad.
Jim Ed Hardaway Thank you Jim! I'm finished with both bikes now thanks to Porkchop and Planet BMX! I'd love to send you pics if I may. I even built custom stands for them. I think you'd enjoy them. My son and I ride them often. That huge smile on his face when we ride is priceless!!! Stay Radical my friend!
Cool video and great build. I restored an 83 Redline 600a, a White 84 Skyway TA, a 84 Pink Hutch TrickStar and a Green 85 Haro Master. All of my bikes are in the BMX Museum on the BMX forum. If you want to check them out, search Triple Black 88.
600c was first good bike i ever saved up for and bought..all chrome version..interesting enough it replaced a ruined stu thompson st550... (that had replaced my first bike a stolen huffy)
There's actually a couple of good videos out there (on UA-cam)... just search "Skyway Tuff Wheels Restoration" or something similar. Thanks for watching the GEBS bike builds!! Keep it gnarly!!
I hate to state the obvious-and wish I could be a bigger help-but you'll probably just have to stay active searching on eBay and hope for the best. Not a lot of 1985 Huffy stuff out there. Thanks for watching!
There's actually a bike tip at 3 1/2 minutes in my "Rebuilding the 1985 Huffy" that shows you: ua-cam.com/video/i8RYCJXw86A/v-deo.html . Thanks for watching!!
Ok I have been looking for a bike from the 80s for the longest time and I just want one so bad I'm deadass broke right now so if ANYONE knows where I can get one that is not 1,000 dollars please respond it means a lot
I'm born 1972 (germany) ....and this bike is a real old school. Good job. What would this bike cost? (but I think ... there is no way to send to Germany)
omg i want that bike !! where the hell can i hve a couple old school bikes built like that ?? i wld LLUUUV a pk ripper ,skyway, and diamond back ... ripper fah me skyway n diamondback for my 2 youngest sons ... HELP ME !! LOL
Only the real ones know the pain of your foot slipping while hauling ass and catching that thing behind your ankle talk about fkn pain OOOOOOUUUUUCHHHHHH!
I have an old Huffy bike bmx. it's all black and nothing else to show what model it was. It has the same type of frame as a Huffy Bmx racing bike but has no indication that it is. Here's a pic if you could help me figure out what model it is. Thanks. tinypic.com/r/euhaps/9
Mr. Hardaway sir. Maybe I can ask you if you can do a piece on the decline of the once respected all American brand called Mongoose... It seems as though they made a mistake in error by letting Walmart control their good name and now the Mongoose brand is ruined for ever because of such a decision... Mongoose was number#1 in the 80's with Redline following suite, but now the brand name is a joke... Walgoose is the name of the brand now as a mockery of the once great name Mongoose... I think a short UA-cam documentary is warranted on this... Just saying...

I remember looking through the catalogs when I was a kid, in love with these bikes. Redline, Mongoose, GT... so awesome
30 yrs later I can finally afford that Hutch i always wanted...dang.
As a modern day street BMX rider I always find it fascinating to look at racing BMX's and especially old ones
New are MUCH different lol
Please do a Hutch or Kuwahara next!!! Awesome stuff, great memories.
Dude.....this was one of my dream bikes as a kid. The unattainable Redline!!!
2 brothers in my town had Redlines and I'd watch in awe as they'd cruise by while i rode our Raleigh Blue Max.
Not the skyways. Oh man takes me back to when I was king of the track
Looks like mine from 1985 . Still have it too ! Great vids ! Thanks !
Just told JR I wanted to build a bike and he let me know you had done a few! Love the builds!
I was basically the big cheese with a RL-20B back in the day.. After someone begged me to sale it to them in '93 I got a junk Diamondback for jumps.. GT Performer was my favorite "vintage" bike..
Ive always been a redline fan. My first bike was a redline 240 I got in 96. Love watching these videos
Didn't R.L Osborne end up riding for Huffy after Redline.Huffy & Ross I always remember those bikes sucking very heavy.Great build.I had A P.L 20 RedLine got it for x-mas one of my favorite gifts thanx to my parents.
Nice bike I have a 1985 complete Redline hanging in my shed was mine as a kid 👍😊
Love the color choices... I might have to steal some of these for a Hutch pro raider build Im working on. More classic builds please!
Big on the build. Really nice. Respect.

Big fan of pork chop they always have everything in stock a quick delivery.
Those mag wheels look like Skyway Tuffwheels but don’t appear to be either 1’s or 2’s. I’ve never seen that hub style before.
I have a 1984 Hutch trick star. Been hanging for the last 30 years it is complete I will part with it to the right person....
Sweet bro, I've got an 85 Suzuki SP600 cc old school Enduro. Gettin her ready 4 the season coming upon us.

Nice bike. I think it would look better with flight cranks tho.
That bike would look nice with some three piece cromilly flight cranks.
Sick I love this bike
my dad has a diamond back silver streak 2 that we fixed up its cool but we need a new stem and bar
Check out the parts at www.porkchopbmx.com
Where could I find a decent fork that fits the old headtube size? I'm trying to build an 85 Huffy Challenger that is only missing a headset and forks.
I hate to state the obvious-and wish I could be a bigger help-but you'll probably just have to stay active searching on eBay and hope for the best. Not a lot of 1985 Huffy stuff out there. Thanks for watching!

Completely agree... The build was sponsored and so I had to go with what was available. My plan is to upgrade the bars, pedals, and cranks.
I love those Red lines i bought one in mexico amd brought it back here to states. Then it got stolen.
That sucks, dude!! Thanks for checking out the video and the comments.
How does this have only 600 views
The bike in the thumbnail looks so fucking hangster😍😍😍
30 years later I still got scars on the back of my legs from the old bear crawls pedals
Only the real ones know the pain of your foot slipping while hauling ass and catching that thing behind your ankle talk about fkn pain OOOOOOUUUUUCHHHHHH!
I saw the Rad soundtrack.
