I think this wagon would've been worth the money if it was made of metal and had a load that you could have in the wagon if you wanted. But an amazing review non the less.
Funny story Sam, I've been trying to find some wagons like these to go on my layout for a long time. I probably will get some of these, although I wouldn't pay alot for them. Cheers Jasper & Willow
The posted max load of 22.5 T may restrict its fully loaded use on certain railways as axle load is over 10 T per axle. What I am looking for is wagons used to transport naval (and rail) guns from factory to ship yard or assembly area. Recent investigation yielded GWR Pollen and Crocodiles, and photos of very short wheelbase ,flat steel toped, wagons used in multiple but no hint of company using them. Vickers and Armstrong (Newcastle) would be the main forgers With the length of 18 inch railway guns being 85.7 ton (barrel and breech) and 52 ft long. The German K5 used in Italy had wagon(Sdfz) with a spare barrel in the train consist from Germany..
These and the TMC exclusive 24.5t mineral wagons make up quite a chunk of my wagon fleet as they were common as muck in my preferred area/era of inspiration. They may seem expensive at first but they have been around for a while and sell slowly. I tend to wait until sales periods when you can sometimes get them for an absolute steal! I generally wait until they list them in a weathered finish and have paid as little as £30 for a deluxe weathered example, which breaks down as £12 weathering service so £18 for the wagon. I have managed to find these in TMCs light/medium custom weathering finish for even less in the past.
Dunno if that brake van has ever feisty red on your channel before the weathering vid the other day, but I think it’s my favourite bit of rolling stock you own, it just looks the part… ZDO is impressive for the discounted price, how does it compare to the ‘fancier’ Rapido wagons, they seem to be the go to needlessly super detailed wagon of the top of my head
Decent looking wagon, how did you not know about it though, admittedly I don’t have any but it’s not the most obscure wagon that has ever been made by a manufacturer.
No it's not dreadfully obscure, but it's an exclusive to just one retailer hence why I'd never seen one for sale elsewhere! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I would guess that the separately attached hooks are meant for actual strings/straps/chains to be set over a load without any tension snapping molded on parts off. 😊
Hi Sam, i thought you'd jinxed the train going over the points there, but you got away with it...this time lol. Good review as always i think the printing on the builders plaque is fantastic. Can i ask, no plead with you to do a review of the Bachmann class 31, i won't buy one till i see what they're like and i don't trust anyone else do give a balanced review.😁
Sam, will you ever review a Hornby Dublo model? I recently got my hands on a Dublo Flying Scotsman at half price from Kernow and it’s become one of my favourite models. Also you really are making us wait for the Stirling Single review, aren’t you 😂
Hi Sam. Nice looking wagon. Very expensive at the RRP. Little hooks great for straps for the loads. Nice little cube camera wagon. Thanks Sam. Thumbs up thumped 👍 .... Pete....
Hi Sam, Although not a rolling stock review request, I've always wonder why you've never reviewed one of the new Hornby Steam Generator Locos, thought it might be right up your street with something fairly newish and innovating? Cheers Russ
Good review as per usual however, I was disappointed that you 😒 didn't have a brief history. I know it's an engineers wagon TOPs id, ZDO, but are they still in use today, were they scrapped....in what year?? I enjoy the brief history segments. Anywho for a review suggestion the Heljan class 76?? Cheers. Guy
Nice wagon, the retail price may have been set by the retailer since this was an “exclusive” model done for them and not Bachmann. Since Bachmann had only one outlet for the model, they may have charged a little more for it. I wonder what the inventory at the retailer’s looks like, with them cutting the price nearly in half, makes you wonder if the original asking price was too high and they were forced to lower it to move the inventory. Watch down the road, when Bachmann’s contract expires with these folks, they don’t put it out on the General market, watch the price.
I like this wagon for the sale price but not at the SRP. As far as something for you to review I think the 6 new Beatles wagons would be great now that Hornby doubled down on them. Just think you could add to your loved Beatles collection, LMAO. You could back them over the edge into a flaming bin and get your Pugsley Adams on. Just saying. Anyway, great review, Jersey Bill
What about my idea ,Hornby making steam punk train sets, with a bit of imagination, the production of engines and layouts would be endless, and I'm sure would attract a new supply of enthusiastic train collectors and modellers.
Nice wagon, Sam. It goes well with the other wagons and the Standard 2MT Mogul. I have a challenge for you, nothing scary, I promise you that. You don't have to run proto-typical trains all the time. I've had fun with a video of my own. You don't see Thomas the Tank Engine hauling BR Blue & Grey Mk. 1 coaches, second part of the video, but I was in a silly mood. I challenge you to make up the silliest train consist you can think of, and choose a steam engine to haul it. Go for it and give yourself a good laugh and a half. Have fun.
Have you heard that Britt Allcroft (the one who created the Thomas and Friends TV series) passed away about a month ago? Are you planning on doing a tribute to her in your next Thomas and Friends review?
Hi Sam, I just wanted to say that I really find your videos very helpful when buying model railway stuff. I also wanted to ask if you could maybe film à review of the Bachmann Penrhyn Quarry Mainline Hunslet. I want to buy that lovely thing and I do really want a good review of it to prove that it is any good. Thanks for reading, ToaF
The exposed coupling mounts would kick this, LWB model into the painted, dried herb covered scenery.. or, preferably, beyond. Where have gone all the 10/- wagons?
@@johncunningham6928 That was around the time that dad built an advanced layout in our 9'x9' shed. The control panel was a work of art but, sadly, I don't have a photo.
Great review again Sam. Pffft, German style pricing whilst the whole thing is just sup par. Quite the little scandal, but okay, we've seen B done some odd chicanery before. Cheerio.
I think I remember that released by Bachmann , was it a pipe wagon or tube wagon , but just thought the price was extortion , so didn’t bother . In fact so disgusted with their rip off pricing I stopped buying any of their wagons and went second hand instead
Got several - they look great weathered and they used to offer several different versions. About £24 is the standard going rate......Points - BRING ON THE EGG VANS !
I'm fairly sure I kit built one of these wagons. Might have to dig it out. But at that price, I'd definitely have one. Have you seen the Accurascale 16 tonners yet?
dare say a lot of stuff, not just model railway, gets a quite high RRP thats used for a base to discount from and only actually used direct by the manufacturer the discounted price seems a lot more reasonable it is a nice model
Cool wagon! I might pick a few of these up! Can’t help but love the quality of Bachmann models and the fact they always work no problem, just wish the prices were a little lower…
Sam, i know you're not into the American market much, and especially lionel, but in your next monthly mews video, please consider a section on Lionels' New berkshire. They've completely retooled the old one, and i think its worth talking about. I'd love to hear your opinion. And the new Broadway one (mainly for comparison)
On an unrelated note, I would love to hear your opinion on Lionel’s new HO Scale Berkshire model their releasing this year; it almost looks like one of their Legacy O Scale models that’s been shrunk to HO.
Hey Kenji unfortunately I have to choose which videos I make myself based on what I think would be best - the express videos were fun though, I could look at doing more! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I knew about these wagons as I used pictures of the Bachmann ones as a guide for painting the much cheaper Peco/Parkside Dundas kits. I see what you mean about the massive coupling holder. I converted on to vacuum brakes and has bigger buffers so needed an even bigger bracket to fit a working coupling without the buffers locking on curves. Way too expensive at £45 (they certainly were sold for £35) they compare well with kit price when you include paint, transfers and couplingd.
Man are you serious always complaining when details moulded on and says that would have been better if it was separately fitted and complains in this video that small details are separately fitted no winning here
I bought this as a kit ages ago, so much better than the moulded stuff companies do
I think this wagon would've been worth the money if it was made of metal and had a load that you could have in the wagon if you wanted. But an amazing review non the less.
