It's just so bad at heavy ray tracing and path tracing though. Even a 16GB 4060 Ti can beat the 7900 XTX in path tracing. Pure rasterization is becoming a thing of the past so I wouldn't recommend anyone that is in the market to buy a new GPU in 2025 to get a 7900 XT/XTX. I think the 9070XT will fair better moving forward than the 7900 XTX overall. Despite maybe being a little slower in rasterization, it'll most likely have much better ray tracing and the new FSR4 will be exclusive to it.

@@03chrisv this is not true. The only cards better at ray tracing are the 4080/5080 and 4090/5090. That doesn’t make it “bad” at ray and path tracing, that makes it better than 90% of gpus.
This is a great example of why nvidia fanboys repeat this lie. They own 4060s, one of the worst cards ever put out that absolutely can’t come close to the 7900xtx in RT/PT, and believe its better! Completely suckered by brand advertising. Cultists coping and seething.

@RiderOfKarma PATH tracing. Compare Cyberpunk in path tracing on a 7900 XTX vs a 4060 Ti. Do the same for other path traced games like Portal RTX, Minecraft RTX, etc. Do you know the difference between ray tracing and path tracing? Any 4070 class beats the 7900 XTX in pure path tracing, and the 16GB 4060 Ti either beats it or matches it. I'm not talking about games like Resident Evil 4 with light ray tracing.

I have been gaming since 1979. I laugh at what people complain about when comparing GPU companies.
I started playing games at 240P with 8 colors running about 8 fps. Back when I started purchasing dedicated GPU's, things were changing so fast that I would sometimes purchase 2 GPU's per year. Then it went down to 1 per generation, then 2 per every other generation, and now because of prices and a slow down in the graphical advancements in gaming, I am planning on extending my current GPU for at least 3 generations.
I currently have a 6900xt. Sure it has some shortfalls with the very latest games, VR, and Ray tracing, but man, this card can perform, especially when combined with my 5800x3d CPU. And there are still a lot of games I haven't played yet that will play great on this card. I have yet to play red dead redemption 2, cyberpunk 2077, etc. I no longer purchase games right away. I usually wait about 3 years because then I can pick then up at those cd key sites from around $10. After years of getting ripped off by money hungry gaming companies, I have no problem purchasing games from this sites.
My fist dedicated GPU was a ATI VGA Wonder, around 1989 if I remember. GPU's have come a long way.

I have a Radeon 7900 XTX, and when it comes to traditional (rasterization) performance without ray tracing, you can max all settings in pretty much all games and play at 4K natively (even without upscaling), with a stable 60 to 120 FPS easily.
Now... when it comes to ray tracing, it's still a strong card. With "standard" ray tracing like global illumination (RTGI), reflections, shadows, etc. you can ALSO play with 60 fps or higher in most games, and often at native 4k or now sometimes with a bit of upscaling (for example FSR 2 / 3 Quality mode at 4k so that's upscaling from 1440p to 4k) and it will run great with max settings. Upscaling from 1440p to 4k will still be a very sharp and pleasant image using FSR cause the starting resolution is high. There might be a bit of shimmer here or there on edges compared to DLSS, but it's 90% the same experience as DLSS. So don't listen to people saying FSR is "garbage" or something.
Finally, when it comes to PATH tracing (aka full ray tracing) which is super heavy on GPUs, then yes AMD cards have more difficulty. Nevertheless, you can STILL use it and have an awesome experience / image with the right settings on the 7900 XTX.
Alan Wake 2 is probably the worst game in terms of ray tracing performance on AMD GPUs when you turn on PATH TRACING... HOWEVER, I turned on "low" setting path traced lighting with "high" denoising quality, and "low" path traced reflections. I used upscaling with FSR 2.0 from 1440p to 4k and all other settings at MAX or almost MAX. I was able to play Alan Wake 2 at a smooth 40 FPS and it was a great experience on the 7900 XTX. I capped my FPS to 40 on my 120 Hz LG TV (for consistency), and it felt like a high end PlayStation Pro that can actually do PATH TRACING. And it worked basically perfectly. For some, 40 FPS is not enough and I get that. But in reality, it's much smoother than 30 FPS and is actually a good experience on 120 Hz displays (since it divides evenly into 120). "Low" path tracing in Alan Wake 2 is already the MAJORITY of the path tracing experience and is WAYYYYY above what consoles can do. So that gives you an idea of what the 7900 XTX can do if that's the WORST ray tracing game on AMD with the most DIFFICULT setting (i.e. path tracing). And it still runs as a fun and really good looking experience, if you choose the right settings. Therefore, most ray tracing games run even much better than that on the 7900 XTX or AMD GPUs in general.
Long story short, the RX 7900 XTX allows you to play all games at high settings at 4k, including using some ray tracing. It's just not AS powerful as Nvidia cards at ray tracing, but still good. Here's the truth though: currently 99%+ of games in existence today still don't have ray tracing. So is having a bit less ray tracing performance (today) really that much of a sacrifice? In the future, there will be more and more ray traced games, but it'll be a while before that number is very significant compared to currently existing games.

Absolutely get u. Soon as u say AMD has good value u are out of touch or a AMD shilling. While u are just saying that most people don’t need features like RT or DLSS.
All people I know don’t use there card for RT or do upscaling. There is no need for that extra price for them to pay.
It’s probably better for them to buy AMD cards just cuz they have extra vram and gonna hold longer to the card.
Like we see with the XTX that wins in the performance charts in a landslide against 4080super even.
And even the 5080 struggles against the XTX in some games.
We also see Spider-Man2 that the XTX competes against the 4080 in RT settings. If u look at the provided requirement list it says that for RT Veryhigh u need 4080 or 7900XTX.
I would not say AMD is done if this gen don’t gets to the people but they would miss the biggest opportunity in years if not ever.

*Thank you for standing up for what normal people think about AMD.*
When the Radeon VII was out, it was a BEAST, but they said "oh my god it runs at 200 watts!! it's so power hungry!!"
if you compare it directly against a 7900XTX, it's using right at half the power and getting half the framerate.. *so it was never that bad!*
There's a benchmark video showing these two cards against each other.
*Nvidia cards can pull 600 watts and they won't criticize the power usage.. Nvidia can offer only a 10% uplift over the previous gen, and they don't complain. When it's AMD, it could be half as bad, and "AMD is trash"* 🤦
I just upgraded my Ryzen 1700 & RX 580 to a Ryzen 5800X and a RX 6700 10GB.. I'm a 1080P gamer, and this upgrade was massive, and all on the same motherboard, ram, and PSU!

AMD might be doing the biggest rug pull on Nvidia ever actually... hear me out here this might not happen but here is what AMD MIGHT be doing... (Doesn't mean they are) AMD saw the lackluster 5000 series performance and knew their would be stocking issue's from nvidia... So they delay the 9070XT from Jan to March to build up a ton of stock. Meanwhile the 9070XT is on par with a 4070TI super in RT and 4080 in Raster for $500 while Nvidia's new 5070 will release for $550 and have less performance than a 4070TI and they will be out of stock everywhere due to stock issue's in March. Then BAM AMD drops the 9070XT at $500 in march and having a huge stock built up. It will not only be cheaper and outperform the 5070 but also be in stock to buy everywhere with FSR 4 day 1.
That would be the biggest rug pull AMD could do to Nvidia. Will that happen? Probably not but it could be what they're doing lol.

XTX Nitro+ is the 'high end' king right now IMO. 90 series isn't worth the squeeze if you aren't working with it. 80 series doesn't have enough VRAM for 4k since Indiana Jones and a few games recently, modded, forget about it, 20gb+ usage....
Native is still best looking in almost every situation bar bad TAA implementations - this is the only time I've seen DLSS4 look slightly better, to reduce severe TAA flicker, but same time, DLSS still has it's own shimmer downsides on edges/movement still, so it relies on you looking at static scenes instead of moving through games..

We are in a world where technology is moving and improving really fast, some people may not like it but it's the way things are going. People will love it, and some won't, but at some point, the ones that dont like it will have no choice as it will become the standard like it always does. It was an easier push when pc gaming was competitive with console in price. Now though upper mid range cards are costing nearly double the price of a console alone. Between $1000-1200+ gpu's or even $800+ gpu's and the games that demand them to run even sub 4k resolution, it's forcing a lot of people out of pc gaming. Or forcing them to play older games and stay locked within a performance range they can afford. It's making other non gaming hobbies look more accessible and affordable and it won't be good for game studios or gpu companies.
Amd is more readily in stock which is a big boost for them. Unfortunately I don't think amd cards belong in the $800-1000 range, raster performance alone isn't all there is to games. It's upscaling, it's ray tracing, maybe at some point more real time path tracing or an alternative that runs more efficiently. Amd's upscaling and ray tracing is just lackluster and once you get into $600, $750, $1000 gpu's people expect more. Rightly so. People aren't into paying $50-60k for a vehicle if it doesn't have built in gps, rear cams, leather seats, all power options. If they're still getting manual windows and seats they're looking more to the $20-25k range.
I know I expect more. I'm not saying this nvidia gpu or that justifies the price tag or makes sense. But in general terms, you want me spending $600+ on a gpu? Sorry, your rt can't suck. Your upscaling needs to be on point. Those become very large factors. Or cut them out completely if you're going to offer a more old school raster only card and price them $250-550. Whatever extra cost per card is going into their r&d for post processing upscaling and rt development isn't paying off. It's being squandered as it just increases the cost of the card while failing to bring tangible benefit to the user. Stick with baked in lighting or something.

  • @thomasis2846
    @thomasis2846 День тому +2

My honest thoughts here, the main reason why Nvidia produced so few 5080/5090 series cards at launch is because the 5070ti/super or any of it's variants are much cheaper for them to produce with high per card profit margins. That will be the card that they release with huge amounts of stock. This also sets us up with the same darn thing that we saw happen with the AMD cards in the current generation of 7000. Good cards with good value but nothing that could be described as blockbuster or stellar deals. My main point of concern for AMD is market share. Without market share you lose so much pull with game developers and it becomes that "revolving door effect". I would love to see AMD break that cycle and come out with a card this gen that sells like hotcake just to keep them relevant. AMD does need a big win this gen in more ways than I think most people realize or are willing to admit. As a 7900xtx owner I'm happy with my card, but you need to keep in mind that the masses are looking for a card that they can just buy it and forget it. For better or for worse that is exactly the reputation that Nvidia has to most buyers. If AMD wants market share to greatly increase this next gen can't just be a good value. It needs to be a great value with great features and it needs to be talked about by the youtubers as a can't go wrong card to buy. Anything less and it's just the same abysmal sales compared to Nvidia.

Games tend to be better optimized for console than for PC; it shouldn't be that way. Not all games are as well optimized as Spiderman on either console or PC; this also shouldn't be. That leaves most modern games running like crap - that's the reality. You know, I do appreciate Nintendo and their hardware-limited consoles. Games are extremely optimized, even though at times they can struggle here and there. The more raw power our hardware has, the less optimized the games will be. That's the trend games will continue to follow because corporations capitalize on this $$$. Gaming used to be a niche activity back in the days 35 years ago man. Today, they've turned it into a cash-cow and are milking our dead uncles and grand-parents in their tombs. Raytracing will matter more in 2 years with the next generation and the Playstation6. About 20 years ago, a friend introduced me to PC gaming, not just playing, but understanding graphics cards and performance. He had a monster rig, and I was blown away, thinking: "One day, I’ll have a PC like that."
Years later, I finally got one, but it didn’t change much. Most games I wanted ran fine, and I rarely bothered pushing settings to the max most of the time, I just wanted to play. That’s when I realized I’d always cared more about the games than the hardware.
Growing up, I was a console gamer. We had almost everything-NES, Sega Mega Drive, PlayStation, N64. When I first saw high-end PC gaming, it felt like a whole new world. But over time, I saw how much PC gaming revolved around hardware flexing in the community (when honestly a good rig is about compatibility but thats another story). While I appreciate GPU advancements, gaming is about the experience, not just the specs.

If fsr 3.2 looks almost as good as dlss4 then the dev can implement it right the first time and be done with. I hate the idea of fsr 4, I mean, the best card they have doesn't get to use it? how lame is that. With dlss 4 coming to older cards it's like nvidia and amd are switching places, nvidia is getting longevity and amd is screwing us. Unfortunately the 50 series is practically a scam; if the 5070ti does well that might save it, but the 5080 is just a slightly faster 4080 super, the 5070 is already running out of vram and the 5060 has so little vram it's barely enough to even launch indiana jones, and that game came out first.

@@Frogboyx1gamingfroggy listening to the hw unboxed podcast. This was the best comment from them.
"What is competitive to you isn't competitive dear AMD fan"
They are on the money with that.
What is enough for you is clearly not cutting it from the sentiment across tech channels and the market.
Remember feelings aside..85% of the market is Nvidia.
If they don't go.for the bigger market they are done for this is what hw unboxed are saying. Really interesting to hear them talk about this.

@c523jw7 No worries brother, the head of AMD pulled the high end rdna4 to focus on UDNA.
•The same way Ryzen took down INTEL’s dominance with a chiplet design, they found the way to do that with their GPUs. The current issue for all GPU improvements is that SRAM cannot shrink any further; the chiplet design resolves this issue.
•They are also working on an improved machine learning software with SONY to be used in PS6/UDNA.
The big bang is next gen; there’s no way this is the end, and Hardware Unboxed knows this.

Why is it always so final on the Internet, your finished if...........
Both companies have their place on the market and thats not gonna change.
You can bet your last dollar that amd will weather a storm, the steamdeck and the handheld pcs are mostly AMD and the next steamdeck will be AMD.
Every time Nvidia release new cards it's the same. The hype train goes and the Fanboys say they're going to destroy everything with these new cards Blah blah blah, when will the hypes died down everything will go back to normal and life will be peachy.

I was planning to build a new gaming/steaming PC in March once I get my tax return. As someone with no other way to make money, I was hoping to help my family by maybe eventually making a small income via streaming. However, now the price of hardware is skyrocketing so fast...I really don't know if it will even be possible to build a PC now.
Personally, I was interested in the 7900 XTX...but then I learned about NVENC and was thinking maybe I should go for a comparible Nvidia card. But all of them are becoming completely unaffordable.

Yeah they go on about nvidia encoding but do you know that you have to run games at your streaming FPS or you get tearing? this is why so many nvidia streamers have to use 2nd box/capture cards/etc lmao. I don't have to do that on my XTX.
Also the lower quality nvidia settings people use look horrible. AMDs standard setting looks far better.

When undervolted it boosts to 3000-3100mhz on the core and doesnt go over 75c on the hotspot..
Plus its one of the ONLY 2 slot GPU that gives you yhat much performance. I almost sold mine the other day but im glad i didnt..

I have a 7800XT and the only things i'm not happy with are the FSR image quality at 1440p and the RT performance. FSR is mitigated by the fact that I can play most things at 1440p native at a decent frame rate and then I can use AFMF to add some smoothness. The only RT game I'm really bothered about is Alan Wake 2, but here in the UK the cheapest 5080 is $1300 (inc tax) so Alan Wake 2 can just wait haha

The NVIDIA vs. AMD debate is a lot like the Apple vs. Samsung argument-some people become almost fanatical about their preferred brand. When you think about it, it’s pretty ridiculous.
As a Design Engineer, I believe that the true measure of a product is whether it’s fit for purpose -> can it do what you need it to do? Both brands offer quality, depending on your needs. If you want to game at 4K with ray tracing, NVIDIA is the better choice. If you prefer 1440p/1080p without ray tracing, AMD delivers excellent value.
At the end of the day, just enjoy your game and stop making a fuss about it.

It's because the situation we're in right now is the PERFECT opportunity for AMD to gain marketshare. They won't if they price the 9070 XT above 500$ (MSRP), and it shows a clear unwillingness to do what needs to be done. And if that's they case, it would be better if AMD stopped makng GPUs.
I watched the Hardware Unboxed video too, and they are 100% right in my opinion.
If AMD exited the GPU market, Nvidia would likely be declared a monopoly. This would probably be the best thing for consumers.
