I'm with you on the freshly picked pea. There is nothing quite like the taste of a pea picked fresh from the pod. Yum yum.
😋 💚
I always learn so much from your videos- hearing you honestly talk about what worked and what didn’t - you do a beautiful job filming and editing ❤️
Your weather looks great. We here in Ontario went from 28 Celsius to a low of 0 Celsius in two days. So I’ll totally enjoy watching you do you seed plantings. Thanks for sharing. 👍❤️😊
You've inspired me that much iv started my channel called vitamin G great for mental health Gardening your energy and vibe is beautiful you exsplane everything simple and I'm just a novice learning and loving everything it's been the best for my mental health hope to see you over there with a like that would make my year love ya lots
Hello I am growing butternut squash from a shop bought butternut that I saved seeds from. And also a crown prince pumpkin. Thanks Cat.
Hi, I have sown 1 seed each of Jack-o-Lantern, Sweet Dumpling, Mashed Potato, Uchiki kuri and Crown Prince last week in my porch - and they’ve all germinated!! Sadly no sign of either of the 2 Butternut squashes as yet! Last year I ended up with 58 squashes, the biggest of which was 1 of 3 Crown Prince weighing in at 12 lbs!! Happily gifted around friends and family
I did sow: beets, courgette, butternut squash and some more. Peas too, but directly in the garden; didn't know I was supposed to wait until last frost date. They didn't know either, they germinated nicely and are growing!
ganda ng garden nyo kaibigan ang laking taniman..daming tanim..isang masugid na tagasubaybay ng iyong channel watching from phillippines
Looks like I've been planting my squash / courgette upside down all the time, but they did grow anyways :) thanks for the vid as always ❤
thank you
Beautiful and informative
most enjoyable
Bravo, another lovely, and helpful video ...........thankyou!
Lovely varieties 🍃🌸🍃
Love seeing what you’re planting this year, and thanks for the tip about giving peas something to climb up. I’m growing sugar snaps for the first time and have made a wigwam for them but will now add some string so they can climb up 😊
Awesome thanks very much
My squash all got eaten by mice last week! 🐭I thought they were safe in my little greenhouse but apparently NOWHERE is safe 😆
Greetings from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state! Enjoying your 2023 gardening! 💛🌻💛🌻💛
Growing Kuri squash for the first time in the Pacific NW. Thank you for the inspiration!
I’ve started three kinds of red beets and a golden beet called Touchstone Gold. Love love love beets!
Your channel is astonishing and influences me a lot. I just started gardening. I love your classes. I'm learning so much. Thank you from USA.
ooo love the sow
Your hair is so pretty! New subscriber here! Saying "hello" from Arkansas, USA! ♥
Hello 👋 Thank you for the compliment and for subscribing ❤️
Lovely video, thank you!!my baby tomatoes haven't put on their true leaves yet even though they have been planted in the house ages ago...no bright sunshine yet in Germany and a bit too cold!! Nevermind, patience is a virtue, thanks for the inspiration ❤❤
I'm growing Telefone peas from a large 2 euro packet that I bought in Madeira, plus Hurst Greenshaft. I last grew these a few years ago and they were the best ever so I'm not sure why I chose other varieties between times. HGS germinated very well half and half in small pot and a gutter and already planted out.Telefone peas now sown in gutters. Some very long twiggy branches at the ready!
I'm 100% certain you know this already; but the card toilet roll inners are awesome for starting off peas and beans.
I tried them one year for Runner Beans with great success.🙂
I always use this method and it's always very successful for me ❤
I grew red kuri over those arches last year & they were amazing…once to a certain size I created a little hammock for them 😊
👏 I SO want to achieve this!
Thanks
Thank you Rebecca! 💘
Hi from southeast Texas zone 9. Thanks for sharing your gardening experience. I planted patatoes here in early Feb, they are almost ready to harvest.
good congratulation
Woohoo! Enjoy 🥔
Hi Katrina I sowed direct this year for first time for few years and they have germinated already. I sowed same time as parsnips and carrots and they have all germinated after 4 weeks. I am in Northamptonshire. I grew baby boo and Jack be little up a structure and they were prolific and also trombocino. I also grew itchi jurist for 2 nd year and I usually get2-3 fruit per plant. They all grow well vertically. I have only sown trombocino so far. Romanesco courgette I grew for first time last year and we love them so defo having those this year. Hope it all grows well for you xxx👍🙋🏻
I'm growing baby boo as well, I grew them last over an archway, and normal pumpkins on the ground, I'm also growing birdhouse gourds just for the novelty.
I love those rootrainers I buy 1-2 new ones every year. I really like them for brassicas as they are first transplanted to the garden then something else can be used in it. Thank you for the video today. peace and blessings bye for now
They’re great for broad beans and sweetcorn too! ✌️
@@homegrowngarden very true I did corn last year it was perfect.
Just to say the baby ones look fab as decorations on the window sill in autumn
hello i'm from Algeirs this is a great work Bravo
Bonjour de France ! I love your videos. I'm growing jack be little too this year and some potimarron... And Crapaudine beetroot (black skin).
Coucou 👋 👋 👋
Formidable vidéo bravo 😊
A bientôt 😉
Ooh ive planted pretty similar pumpkins. Sweet dumpling, Casperita (improved baby boo so they say), Jill Be Little (also supposed to be an improvement on the Jack), Black Kat and Table King. And some huge ones, Moon Whisper, Howden, Bleu de Hongrie, Jack o Lantern and Autumn Crown :D Gona be a pumpkin fest this year xD
Now I know why my lettuce have not been germinating. Light!!
I have the same arches in my garden. One had pumpkins growing on it and they snapped the arch. They were bigger pumpkins than what you are planting though. 🤞🏼
Sounds like we are growing some of the same varieties of squash :) I'm growing most of mine up a-frame trellises this year. The maximas I'm growing are red kuri and lower salmon river (these are bigger so I'm letting them sprawl on the ground), my moschatas are gouda, black futsu and seminole, and my pepo varieties are sweet dumpling and jack be little. I'm interested to see which varieties will survive the vine borers and squash bugs this year. For the ones on the trellises, I'm also growing morning glories and spanish flag vine with them, to see if I can add more color to the garden. I hope we both have a great crop in the autumn!
Would love to see you building your arch and how it progresses. I’m growing Jill be quick squash, has been a good little climber and climbs well up my bean arch. Have tried baby boo a couple of times and struggled with germination/ slug and snail damage so will keep my fingers crossed for you. Have noted down the others you are trying for next year, will be interested to see which ones you prefer at the end of the growing season x
I'm trying honey boat this year as per your recommendation :D
LOVE honeyboat! Let me know how it grows for you 🍯
Hii kat Love you so much ❤
God bless you
I have almost same pumpkins planed I think i got influenced from your last year haul :) its bit early still for them here. Put i have sweet dumpling, Uchiki Kuri, Naples Long, Marina di Chioggia, Moonshine and spaghetti squash Pyza also yellow zucchini and Kajar melon (only one that goes to greenhouse) and Sugar Baby watermelon. :) Also plan on planting peas tomorrow i love the blue sugar peas Blauschokker Blue Pod Pea or if its not possible then Desiree is ok to.
I don't grow pumpkins as I grow veggies in a balcony and don't have much space. What I'm trying this year is to grow zucchini in grow bags.
I love watching your videos as they are so helpful. Your seedlings look so healthy in your polytunnel but how do you water them without flattening them when they are so tiny ?
I did beets last year and did 1 seed per cell and they turned out tiny!! 😅 giving another go this year because what small harvest I did get was so nice. I love to roast them!
It could be due to a lack of water, starting too late or compact soil. the ones I grew in the shade did better than the ones in the sun last year.
@homegrown.garden ahhh I started late last year don't think I had them in the ground until about July!! 🙃 I have a few already going strong in cells this year 💪 🤗
Weather was so lovely this year! 😅 but now it’s chilly. It’s the fact springs are so dangerous
I notice you been growing from packets - do you save seeds? Great video, learned something! Cheers.
Squash does ramble a bit doesn't it. I'll be growing Red Kuri and Celebration (acorn) squashes. I like Butternut but with limited space I think I'll just buy a couple from the farmers market and call it good.
My peas and onions are already up and doing well. We have a longer cooler spring then usual so that might help the peas last longer, hopefully. I've not had much luck with beetroot before. Maybe I'll try again before the seed gets too old. Now where are they?? 😄
🙌🏼🌱💕
Are you wearing beetroot earrings??? xD That looks awesome!
Aren’t they amazing?! It’s part of the new collection from Wolf and Moon 🌙
I love your recycled tablecloth, and your dibber I can’t see it very clearly what is it? Mine was free from Gardeners World, many many years ago it came with a little compost sieve as well! They used to give really good stuff
away, going down memory lane I also have a GW trug and hands for picking up leaves and hedge trimming! Now they are too expensive for me! I’m growing Snake Gourd this year for the first time, I don’t know if you have heard of it ? The seed was from one I bought to cook last year, lovely stuffed with mince and added to a curry! Now before I bore you with my ramblings good luck with your growing! Margaret 😊
👍
Amazing. Oh I wish I was sowing and growing this year but the way life has panned out there is sod all growing as I have no where to do it. Absolutely frustrating but I am on the wait list for an allotment and I am still looking for a few acres of land to buy. The list seems never ending and the land is not happening either. Have seen so many parcels of land available but none have been what I am looking for as its quite a specific list of requirements.
Oh no. That sound so frustrating. Do you have an area outside your door you could have a few pots? 🪴
I don't know if you follow Emma's allotment diaries but she did or does pumpkin arch every year.. Mine didn't work out but hey ho always this year .
😊😊😊🎉
Which compost are you using?
Love that you are re-purposing that annoying banner!
Do you have to deal with squash vine borer? Any suggestions, if you do, how to keep the damage down? Love your videos. UA-cam unsubscribed me and I subscribed again!
Thankfully not. I’ve seen how destructive those things can be from other peoples videos!
I think you need a bigger watering can 😆
Beetroot seeds are actually seed clusters. Even if you sow one seed per cell, you will get some with two, three, or even four seedlings. Multi sowing is good if you like pickled baby beets. But if you like nice big slices, then just go for one per cell.
No real squash this year. But I do have thirty F1 Harvest Moon, and a few (four) Sankt Martin F1 pumpkins. Two years ago, I grew seventy-five pumpkin plants for a thing our allotments did for Halloween. I will be giving a few plants away to people this year. So I will only grow twelve, or fourteen pumpkin plants myself.
I just grow them for fun. They all go to friends, or people in the street.
Guess I’d better get at it, haven’t started one veg yet 🙄
Aww, how are you doing Wende?
@@homegrowngarden
I'm getting all my flowers straight right now, really no excuse for not sowing veg yet.
I planted too many squash seeds per cell because I was afraid they wouldn't germinate, but they did... and then waited too long so now the cell is full of roots. For now I just put the whole block out into the container (I use grow bags) but I guess I need to throw out all but one?😢
Plan on doing butternut and crown prince and maybe another. Would they be better left on the ground or raised.
They’ll grow just fine in the ground. Due to their size I would hesitate growing them vertically unless you have a very strong support!
@@homegrowngarden thanks for the reply, I've got a fair bit of room so I'll leave them on the ground.
I also didn't have very good success multi-sowing beetroot
I cannot believe you're outside in a t-shirt already. We have the worst cold rainy weather here in Germany. 😢 I suppose I have to move to England. 😊 Good luck with all your plans this year!
By the way, what is the difference between Squash and Pumpkin? The size? I think we only have one word for both.
If it helps I was gardening hard all morning and there was a cold wind. Definitely not jumper temps in the tunnel. 🥵
There’s no botanical difference between a squash and a pumpkin. In theory they’re all squashes. Pumpkins are just a name we’ve given to the round orange ones!
@@homegrowngarden Aah, thank you! Got it.
Hello
Hi Katrina, is it easy to grow mini cucumbers from seeds in containers, peas that grow 10ft tall is amazing 😊
Yes, just make sure you have a good sized container and prepare to water it lots!
@@homegrowngarden thank you for your advice, I will let you know how I get on with them 👍
Hi from scotland 😲 I love your earnings where are they from plesse x
Wolf and Moon. It’s their new veggie collection! Love them so much.
Last year 2022, I had 40 + plants in Polly tunnel, May 6th I believe, we had a frost in south east England which destroyed all my 4 week old plants, I really am concerned we will get another late frost. What is your view please. Great information thank you.
Unfortunately late frosts are one of the risks we gardeners face ! All we can do is be prepared and fleece, fleece, fleece! I’m hopeful that it will stay around 2°C in Nottingham.
@@homegrowngarden , thank you for your advice, good gardening : )
Up here near the Lancashire/Westmoreland border I don't start my squash and climbing beans until late May to avoid them becoming to leggy before it's safe enough to plant them outside in early June. In the past I lost too many to cold winds.
It's good when annoying people leave useful materials outside your house. We had a roofing company leave their plywood sign outside of our house for a whole month after they'd done some work. One day the sign mysteriously went missing and I got myself a lovely new plywood planter... what are the chances?
What are your thoughts on F1 seeds? Some people won't use them.
I have nothing against and for some crops it might be better to grow them as they yield better and are more resistant to pests and diseases. However I prefer and mostly grow open pollinated crops so I can save my own seed. I don’t save seed for any of the cucurbit family though since they so freely cross pollinate.
@@homegrowngarden Cool...and thanks for all the videos!
Do beetroot seeds produce more than one seedling from each seed due to them being a cluster seed?
Or have I heard it wrong somewhere.😮
They can yes but don’t necessarily do it every time.
The threat of widespread frost early next week has derailed my plans a bit
I’m crossing my fingers it sticks to the 2°C forecast and doesn’t dip below that! 🤞
Tried beetroot 3 times without success
Direct sow or in modules under cover?
@@homegrownharvest211 direct sow. I got great foliage but nothing under ground. Im in Scotland but don’t think that should be an issue. Going to try again! I wont let it defeat me.
This can sometimes happen if your soil is too full of nitrogen or if you have compacted soil. Did you manure the bed?
@@homegrowngarden no it was just grown In a raised bed with compost. Also tried them in containers. Going to try again this year. What would you suggest I do. They are my nemesis
I posted this on the GW forum. This year I experimented starting peas on wet kitchen roll, at the same time I put some in pots with compost, the kitchen roll ones grew really fast, and I then put them into individual pots of compost, the ones sown in compost were really slow, the kitchen roll ones are now out in the garden 15cm tall, the pot grown ones are 6cm tall, and look weaker, something to think about.
It’s a great way of testing germination rates too for old seed so you don’t have to waste any compost.
@@homegrowngarden Yes, I sowed my sweet peas in the kitchen roll, and only 20 % germinated 🙏😍
What a great idea, thanks!
did you use the inoculant as well - found it REALLY makes difference , so easy to do !
