  • If you’re using a Garmin eTrex SE GPS device, you might want to mark a waypoint and get a more accurate location by averaging the coordinates. Averaging a waypoint takes multiple measurements of the same location and calculates a more precise set of coordinates. Here's how to do it:
    Step 1: Mark a Waypoint
To start, press and hold the OK/Upside Down Teardrop button to mark a waypoint at your current location. Make sure that you have a clear view of the sky to ensure accurate GPS readings.
    Step 2: Open Waypoint Options
Once you've marked the waypoint, press the OK button to open the options menu. Select "Edit" from the list of options.
    Step 3: Select "Averaging"
From the edit menu, select "Averaging". This will open a new screen that displays the current coordinates, as well as a countdown timer and a button to start averaging.
    Step 4: Start Averaging
Press the "Start" button to begin averaging the coordinates. Hold the device steady and wait for the timer to count down to zero. The device will take multiple readings during this time.
    Step 5: Save the Waypoint
Once the averaging process is complete, you will see the new averaged coordinates on the screen. Press the "Done" button to save the waypoint with the new, more accurate coordinates.
    Step 6: Name the Waypoint
After saving the waypoint, you can edit the name and other details by selecting the appropriate fields and making changes as needed.
    Step 7: Save the Waypoint
Once you're satisfied with the new details, scroll down and select "Done" to save the waypoint. The new waypoint will now appear in the "Saved" list with the averaged coordinates.
Averaging a waypoint can be a useful feature when you need a more precise location for a specific location. By following these simple steps, you can use this feature on your Garmin eTrex SE GPS device.

Might want to go to your satellite page and note your elevation. I find the elevation gets screwed up somehow when averaging. If you noticed at the end your elevation was negative a couple of hundred feet. Not sure why that happens and navigating to them is fine except for displaying vertical distance. The waypoint has the proper elevation when you first make them it seems btw.

I have one since 1 week . Tested out several times with the saved waypoints as well as average waypoints. Results ( accurate) very disappointing. Indicates differences between 26 and 78 meters.

My 10 years old Bushnell personal back tracker is very much more accurate , except the connection with the satellites, which is a pain in the neck
