  • In this video, I take a look at the main waypoint functions you can use on your Garmin eTrex 22x or 32x. A waypoint is either your current location or other location. A waypoint contains: GPS coordinates, name, marker, notes, time date and elevation. You can collect waypoints and share them between your computer and garmin device by using .gpx files.
    Creating a Waypoint
    You can save your current location as a waypoint. You can use the MARK WAYPOINT menu item or press and hold the joystick for 2 seconds to reach the same menu screen.
    Projecting a Waypoint
    You can either choose an existing waypoint or create a new waypoint from your current location to project a new waypoint. You may use this in the situation where you need to bushwack a certain distance and bearing to reach a road or other point of interest.
    Navigating to a Waypoint
    Use the Where TO? | Waypoints menu path to navigate to any of your saved waypoints.
    Finding a Location by Waypoint Name
    You can find a waypoint by filtering the name. This is useful when you have a lot of waypoints on your device and you have a naming schema that makes it easy to filter the list.
    Editing and Deleting Waypoint
    You can edit or delete waypoints at any time by reaching to the details page of a waypoint.
    Waypoint Averaging
    This is a useful function where you can take multiple samples of a waypoint giving you the best accuracy as possible. Useful when in areas where satellite accuracy is not the best. This function will adjust the coordinates.

    One more useful method. Being on your map screen > use thumbstick to click and select a point. It shows you a Go command, but don't hit Go command...instead.... hit your Menu key, and select "Save as Waypoint.

    Hi Jim - Thanks for your videos, newbie here on the etrex22 and they have been very helpful. Question for you: I have a track uploaded on my Etrex from BaseCamp, i like to add some cues to it for let's say Water / Campground while bikepacking. Is that something that can be done with the Etrex22 or is there a better way to go about it? Thanks for the help!

    Is there a way to make the waypoints description to be larger on the map? I find it is hard to read without glasses.

    I consider buying this device, but I have a few things that are not clear to me on the internet. I want to use the device for longer cycling trips, and want to keep my family up to date on where I am. As I do not want to take a computer with me, I was wondering if there are any connectivity possibilities with phones. I know the touch 35 does have those Bluetooth capabilities, but I'm a little skeptical when it comes to buying devices that are already 4 years old. Can you enlighten me? Thanks in advance.

      the bluetooth you see on the handhelds is more to view phone notifications syncing of activities. What it sounds like you want is more of an inReach device with subscription if your travels will bring you out of cell coverage. There's the livetrack feature on garmin connect on your phone. I haven't played with it much but it's available to you now if you are paired to a garmin device to your phone

    I am looking to upgrade my 23 year old gps. My main purpose would be marking waypoints for photo locations to come back to, also navigating back to vehicle when trails aren't around, and finding existing trails that are around. My question: I have read many reviews that people could not get the Garmin 24k maps to load and run on this 22x, do you have any knowledge of this? I really like the idea of the 24k map details so I will purchase that but I would be very disappointed if the maps didn't work with the 22x. Any information you can give me on this would be most appreciated.

      only feedback with large maps were mostly on the 20x where the rendering was SLOW. Perhaps a smaller map grid might improve performance or change the setting on the map detail from "normal" down to "less".

    Hallo Jim.
    A good lesson.. one question . At 5:12 you scroll through fields to edit a waypoint.
    You select a field, and edit that field, in this case the number of the waypoint. (Name)
    I suppose it it also possible to edit the actual GPS Location (Nxxx.yyy Waaa.bbb) etc ?
    Thanks at forehand, Louis

    • @AvoidingChores
      @AvoidingChores  3 роки тому

      yes, once you are in edit mode, you can change name, icon, notes & coords.

    Jim. Hi just bought this unit based on recommendation to replace a Montana that I lost. One thing I have not been able to work out is how to have the unit auto scroll so that position remains on the screen. This was something the Montana did so hope this unit does the same as it is annoying to have to continue to manually scroll.

    Hi, not familiar w/ handheld gps. Can the measurement in elevation be changed inside the device? From feet to meters.

  • @jublywubly
    @jublywubly 3 роки тому

    That was a great tutorial. They really seem to have made it easy to use way points.
    2:50 It would help if the people working at Garmen knew how to spell, though. They misspelled metre. (A meter is a device used for measuring. A metre is a specific unit of measurement, equal to approximately 3 and 1/3 feet.) Do you know if that can be corrected, by changing the language to proper English?

    • @justin3993
      @justin3993 2 роки тому +1

      No, they spelt it right. You're just on the wrong side of the pond lol

      @@justin3993
      I'm actually correct. The English word metre means "the fundamental unit of length in the metric system, equal to 100 centimetres". It comes from the French word mètre, that came from the Greek word metron.
      Garmin navigators are made in Taiwan, where they don't even speak English. Garmin, the company, is North American, where they don't use metric (and, evidently, they aren't very good at spelling).
      PS. Your use of "spelt" is also incorrect. The past participle of spell is "spelled". Spelt is an ancient grain that is related to wheat.
