I live in a new development in the Orlando area and plenty of my neighbors are Hispanic and Puerto Rican working blue collar jobs like him whether if it’s HVAC, Truck Driving, or Electrician making $40K-$60K a year and they live in big houses pretty much. Don’t rely on the salary alone there is many factors that plays in to this like overtime, family members or love partner living with you, experience, side hustles etc.

You provided a salary base for California. Which is completely different that other areas . A lot of social workers leave the field because the pay is so low. I graduated with a BSW and worked with children in foster care starting pay was only $15 in NEW York ( not NYC) Cps workers are paid maybe around $19 , while managing a entire families needs, driving your vehicle into the ground, and trying to fight for resources . I love my work but wish we could be compensated enough to stay in the field .

I do have a friend who recently went into the private sector silver cases a lot smaller and she does have an MSW and she's happy only making $60,000 a year but expects to be making $82,000 a year 4 years. This for California is not a lot of pain but she likes not having a lot of stress in her job. That is a problem with social work, there is quite a bit of stress and child protect services but if your license you can work at Kaiser or a hospital for about $175k a year

I wouldn't pay attention to half of these comments. I have been researching and talking to people who live there and the cost of living in Orlando isn't that much more than here in San Antonio, Texas. (among the cities with the lowest cost of living in the country pretty much)

@@cristylee7463 I practice in NY. $70k is starting for most LMSWs here. The real money is in program management/administration. Most of the SWs I know make low six figures . Lowest salaries tend to be in harm reduction/addiction services. Find the very cheapest MSW program to make it worth it with the loans.

Also those states have taxes so you get money slashed from you. A SWE in Florida makes you around $90K-$100K but no income taxes. A SWE in Cali, Seattle, or NY can make a $100K+ but reality is when Uncle Sam comes collect your $180K-$200K income, you’ll receive back your income tax the same amount as an engineer makes in Florida.

You forget he is a high rise window cleaner, which means he is working under the blasting rays of the sun and he could fall and die. While the social worker is working inside an office with a/c and not risking her life.
