    There was a brief discussion of sandbox in the stream, and I mentioned I was going to provide a description in the comments for Rata.
    This may be more of a PC thing, (as I have always been a PC player) but a lot of singleplayer games can be broken up being a sandbox or a narritave. This is not the same as liniar vs open world as that is map design. Sandbox does not have a set "story" in the game, typically the player ends up making their own story or direction. Probably the most well known example is Minecraft, though I suggest games like Mount & Blade: Warband, Total War series, and Sim City as well being in the "sandbox" style.
    Helldivers 2 aligns more to the sandbox style, as there isn't really a direct narritive. Space Marine 2 however is narritively driven, even in the opperations. One of the reasons why I said that Helldivers 2 has a longer lasting appeal to me is that I am technically mentally making my own story and experience, rather than just playing the same campaign and opperation stories. I'm playing Titus' story, not nessessarily my own. However, I also respect that many others can feel differently and like having a narrative to bring them into the story

      yup even the operations mode suffers from this, the only variety is enemy encounters. This game has way longer legs, but maybe that will change as space marine 2 gets more multiplayer content.

    Miyazaki might want everyone to engage with the game on the same terms, but that never happens anyway and the elitism in this community has gotten worse with the years unfortunately.
    I mean I'm looking at the chat the moment this was brought up and already someone is talking about "Fingerprint and Rapier" as if it's an invalid strategy to beating that god awful boss lol and before that we already had the whole spirit summon debate, the magic debate and whatever other way people think is just the "easy mode".
    Basically Miyazaki's sentiment and the games he mades are both mutually exclusive.. you can't have everyone engage with the game on the same terms when you give people a whole array of customization to tackle challenges differently because people with broken minds think that's cheese and cheating and easy mode, AKA the nerf was absolutely necessary for a Promised Consort. It's the same shit as Balteus from ACVI, people just wearing the "I beat it before the nerf" label as a badge of honor as if it means something (It doesn't, they litteraly did nothing to that boss other than fix the insane tracking the missiles had beyond a certain trajectory after you've passed them, people mostly die to the bazooka/shotgun and flame sword anyway)
