i like how the two kinda contrast. Like how in Bite Your Teeth, Poppy attempts to convince herself that whatever she's going through doesn't hurt her. "Don't cry just keep on trying" she's gritting her teeth and trying to continue with something she doesn't wanna be in an clearly hurts from. And she screams at the end kinda unhinging that pent up anger and we transition to Sick of the Sun where she seems to be starting to accept and grieve with what she has been through. It's very nice and cohesive of a narrative.
theres also this really cool quote from Alan Watts, that i think could've inspired the track: "Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth."
Heard this and realized it’s a different vibe from her other songs, more relatable, more mellow and keeps the same tempo throughout the whole song... love it

I love how she's not sticking to one genre. She has her extreme nu-metal (I think that's what it's called) songs like BLOODMONEY, Sit/Stay but also has some much more calmer songs that could be enjoyed by people who don't like that sound, such as Sick of the Sun, Don't Go Outside and Nothing I Need. I must have listened to this song like ten times yesterday. it's like melancholy and serene at the same time because of the contrast between the slow, calm sound and the depressing lyrics.
this album is such an interesting listen. it has the narrative of there being two separate sides of poppy represented by the genre melding of industrial metal and really just some soothing, mello pop style instrumentals and vocals. i feel like "fill the crown" really shows the clash well and this song just fully dips into that pop style sound.
Gonna take a shot at what this song means, at the very least what it means to me. I know for me, as someone with major depression, forced positivity sometimes makes me want to vomit. Some days I just need to be sad in order to get through it. When you see everyone else happy all the time or when you see the overabundance of toxic positivity in the world, it irritates you because you can't seem to figure out why so many people being happy. For depressed people, sometimes we have to face the reality of our sadness and depression in order to heal. Now, I'm not saying we should wallow in our doom and gloom every single waking moment. But faking happiness is burying the issues, not fixing them. Music is a way to help yourself heal. Not get better, but mend the problem. Love this song. One of the best on the album.
