We used to convert 10 meter ham rigs so they could cover the CB band resulting in an all-band 35 Watt CB/ham rig. The best radio I had was the Ranger 2950 which I modified to add CB. Ooooohhh baby! I likes it! If President drops a McKinley II with SSB that will truly be the end-all-be-all killer radio that will put everybody else out of business. President can just take my money at this point.
Nice radio. I have been looking around for a couple of good radios. When I worked along the pipeline we all had company bought cheap CBs in the company vehicles to talk mostly with truckers on the highway. I worked in telecommunications as a tech doing everything from HF to Ku . I’m retired now and need something to play with inside in the winter.
the rf power control is for when we are at the truck stop we turn down the power because we are too close to each other. also great when camping and convoying.
I'd like to ask a very crazy question. I know how to use a CB radio and I have some grms radios. What is the FM band on this Radio 4 or who's going to use it?
It's a new way to talk on CB. Some people are switching to it, but it will take years for it to really catch on. That said, If I was getting a new radio, I'd make sure it had FM mode.
Nice radio ! You could set it up as a base until you decide which VW to put it in , maybe President will send you something else then you’ll have one for both Great review
Great video, as always! That said, it looks like President dropped the ball once again by omitting CTCSS/DCS from its FM-capable CB radios. WHY???? The Randy II omitted this highly desirable feature while the Randy III (Euro model) has it. Does President think it's USA customers are stupid and incapable of operating CTCSS/DCS? Does President think that I really need yet one more device that picks up NOAA Weather (in addition to ham, FRS, GMRS, my toilet paper holder, toaster, and everything else) rather than something that would keep the receiver quiet while listening for family, friends, or business associates? Did President hire some of the thoughtless design engineers that work in Midland's GMRS section? Why?

Would you happen to have a suggestion for a compatible power supply for the walker 3? Just learning and was wondering if there maybe one more specific for this radio.

A company in Iowa sells this radio online as peaked advertising 28 watts. If you buy it peaked , do NOT depend on the SWR feature. Use an external swr/watt meter.
Well we have FM here in UK but i prefer ssb bands and as good as FM may sound in my opinion the AM is better mobile to mobile FM you generally get peeps sat by there rigs at home with twig on a pole or roof talking to you , nice vid
The new mobile president radios do have upper and lower sideband and lower channels the scan function is the same on the rci 2995dx also has the memory function too that President Walker 3 FCC the color change is also on the Stryker radios

So i would like to see a video or two about warranty work for president radios especially in America just a thought for them people who own them type of radios
They have a 1 year warrenty or 2 if you get a president antenna. If you have an issue during that time (Unlikely) you'd send it to a service center for repair.
I've been searching the Internet for hours, and I have yet to find the answer to what my friend told me this morning. He said CB radios are now Digital instead of Analog. Does anyone know the answer?
CB sales must be doing very well for President to come out with another FM CB. I’d use it for a base station and put one of you Thomas’s in the bus or Super Beetle.

I like FM because it has less noise. also FM can be used with Tone squelch for quieter monitoring. may be people should transmit particular tone like 88.5Hz when transmitting on CH 19 for general use. AG6JU

Great videos. I know zero so far. 1. Does this require a license? 2. Does it require an antennae. I am looking for a way to communicate during storms? Is this a battery type of device or does it need electricity?
Hi Erik, I’m in the UK and a complete newby to radio. I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and learning a lot. I’ve always liked the idea of buying really good quality used gear which is why I’ve been using a 1985 bang & olfsen hifi at home for the past 17 years without fault. Is there an equivalent I should be looking for in CB. Ideally I want one to find a model that I can buy 2 or 3 of and have one as a base station and also in one or two cars. My wife and I share cars so I like the idea of commonality for ease of use. OR is there something new I should be looking at instead, given I have very limited electronics repair knowledge? I see you recommend president as a brand but no offence intended, is that because they’re giving you freebies or would you recommend something else ? Really appreciate your thoughts
I would have bought President units even if they were not helping me out. They are a good brand at a decent price- Some of the older ones will need some type of repair simply due to their age. I would get one that you are interested in, some of the older ones are still great units. Good luck
@@FarpointFarms Thanks for the reply Erik, with all your other projects I did wonder if you would have time, so thank you. I have a buddy who might be able to do some home repairs. Ooooohhh baby! I likes it! If President drops a McKinley II with SSB that will truly be the end-all-be-all killer radio that will put everybody else out of business. President can just take my money at this point.
Maybe President is reading the comments and will take note.
Check out 3d printers. Theres nobody to talk to there either, but it's a fun hobby.
@@RippSnortin Many people with remote cabins still use CBs up here to talk to there neighbors.
the rf power control is for when we are at the truck stop we turn down the power because we are too close to each other. also great when camping and convoying.
good to know- thanks
Nice design with the classic and modern
agreed
I'd like to ask a very crazy question. I know how to use a CB radio and I have some grms radios. What is the FM band on this Radio 4 or who's going to use it?
It's a new way to talk on CB. Some people are switching to it, but it will take years for it to really catch on. That said, If I was getting a new radio, I'd make sure it had FM mode.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m new to the hobby and looking for a new radio. This one looks interesting.
The color changing screen screams put me in the bus 👍
it kinda does with the cool colors
What is the range of this radio.? I am new to these radios. Trying to get prepped for a grid outage...
Depends largely on the antenna used. Check out my videos on Antenna's for more info.
LOL! I needed a good laugh today and you provided it. Thanks.
Are there any waterproof CB radios for motorcycles? I need one for my Goldwing.
Radio shack made some "Sports" radios. They are!
Nice radio ! You could set it up as a base until you decide which VW to put it in , maybe President will send you something else then you’ll have one for both Great review
fingers crossed---
Is this ham radio?
Looking back into cab after years of being away.
No sir, this is still a CB radio, and they are more popular right now than you would think.
Why?
Thanks got to have one if those great video.
Thank you for the kind words
just bought one after watching this cool review, what antenna can I use for home base? or what are you using?
I have the Antron A99 for my home
@@FarpointFarms thanks for that, I have another issue cb radio makes my computer speakers make a noise every time I click on mike to peak- cbradio and computer speakers are on same wall outlet any ideas how to avoid `that? also my set up is in a second floor of my home how do I ground it?
I’d love to see a relocatable head on these like many of the Mobile HAMs out. I would also love a Sideband radio. All of mine are straight AM only.
How is it a home base station if it does not come with a 110 wall plug wire?
You can add a cheap used Radio Shack 120 to 12V converter on eBay, and bingo, you have a base station!
President has been making great CB/10 meter radios since the 80’s , I still have my 80’s era Lincoln and 90’s era George, I also have a tuned Johnny III and Bill FCC, eventually I’ll look into getting a Walker III.
glad to hear you still have the older ones.
@@FarpointFarms I've had some offers on the old radios but I'm definitely holding on to those, if I sell then I won't see another at the price I paid back then.
Retired but keeping busy. Not into TV but knowing what is happening in the area (fire & police) and maybe SW listening would be interesting. Not interested in broadcasting. I live in Aroostook ME in middle of nowhere. Best suggestions for a beginner? I know a decent antenna will be needed.
Would you happen to have a suggestion for a compatible power supply for the walker 3? Just learning and was wondering if there maybe one more specific for this radio.
I would Look for a used Radio Shack 120 to 12v converter on Ebay. They are kind of a universal power supply.
@@FarpointFarms Thank you. I have decided to purchase the walker 3 and want to set up a base station. do you have a suggestion for a antenna? I want to try to make furthest contacts I can, not sue if i can do that with SSB alone but dont think i would want to use an amp to boost power.
I just gave in and bought one. Already sold my old Uniden bearcat to a co-worker for $50.00 😀 Win.
I hope that you like it as much as I do
So are people here in the states using the FM band enough to make the upgrade ? Any fellow truckers?
Uptake has been slow, but steady. I hope in another year or two you'll see a FM calling station and then more and more contacts.
I like the scan feature and the color change.
A company in Iowa sells this radio online as peaked advertising 28 watts. If you buy it peaked , do NOT depend on the SWR feature. Use an external swr/watt meter.
Good to know. Thanks!
I recently bought a Pres. Harrison. Which do you think is better??
I prefer the classic look of the walker myself.
I'm really waiting one
It's a really nice radio, you'll love it!
Just picked up the uniden beartracker 885 cb/trunk police scanner. its seems pretty good. Might get this one too.
I agree that you can never have too many radios
I have a President Jackson that came out of my Dad's 1976 W900 Bicentennial Edition Aerodyne. Still works I'm sure.
Sweet! I don't think I've seen one of those.
Well we have FM here in UK but i prefer ssb bands and as good as FM may sound in my opinion the AM is better mobile to mobile FM you generally get peeps sat by there rigs at home with twig on a pole or roof talking to you , nice vid
Thanks for sharing- FM does has some decent sound quality
The new mobile president radios do have upper and lower sideband and lower channels the scan function is the same on the rci 2995dx also has the memory function too that President Walker 3 FCC the color change is also on the Stryker radios
Now that fm is legal
What channel is popular for fm?
I think it depends on the area that you are at- I have had reception on a few channels
I'd say use it as your new basestation. It's going to take a while for fm to take off to where mobile will be useful.
Nope. No SSB
I was wondering if you are in FM modulation can you set PL tones on channels like the anytone radios have FM modulation can?
When in FM mode do you get bleed over from AM,,,just wondering, thanks
Nice radio, nice features, when available I'm wondering
Not sure yet, I am sure it won't be long
I just bought one yesterday.
Glad to hear it. You'll love it!
I currently have(not using) a White-faced Johnson, Lafayette Comstat 23A(tube job) and the 525 for mobile. Magnet mount antenna for what ever vehicle I use. Plug into powerport or lighter socket. Might get back into CB. The Walker III is not available......Darn! You've sold me on this unit 🙂
No sir. CB is available in three modes now. AM, FM, and SSB, but all three are still Analog.
CB sales must be doing very well for President to come out with another FM CB. I’d use it for a base station and put one of you Thomas’s in the bus or Super Beetle.
base station would be a good idea for it
this plus sideband is a perfect radio
Which is why I'm waiting
Got a question do you need a ham radio license to use the FM side or to use that radio I'm new to this I know am you don't
you do not need to- that is what makes them great
I can't find it for sale anywhere. President does not even list it on their web site. Any pointers on where to find one?
It is coming soon- keep checking
Do you get AM bleed over on FM?
Ye, and no. You do hear a tiny bit of something, but it's not intrusive.
Need to have band plan to dedicate channels for AM/SSB and fm.
I'm sure that will happen in time.
i love fm espically talking local in a thunder storm when lots of staic crashes on am or side band 11 meters CB n 6 n 2 meters i once called out cq cq dx on usb 27.555 and called out qsy for contact 27.560 FM n made 5 dx contacts from ontario canada here 73 from radio canada 0077 northwest shore of lake superior ontario canada n luv all ur videos really appericate u doing this with espally with cb radio
What do you mean FM?
Is that another name for sideband?
FM is another band, SB is different.
I wish they made this with sideband.
Buy a President Lincoln 2 has FM and Sideband
@@conmullen1670
Okay thanks, I'll check it out 👍
Or better yet the anytone 6666 is another fantastic radio with Sideband and FM and 60 watts power out of the box 📦. To modify it for the freeband extra frequencys all you have to do is hold down two buttons the first time you turn it on and it's converted... no clipping wires or adding a resistor. This way you don't void the warranty of your radio .
@@RicArmstrong hey Ricochet
I have both 6666 n Lincoln2
The Lincoln is a good radio but for the money I get 6666 cheaper n more power n better receiver
Just my opinion
73 n good dx n9prf 2fb2112
I like the Lincoln but has gotten pricey in my opinion. I like the look of the walker more too
What's the benefit of a 6pin mic vs 4pin mic?
6 pin are set up where you can adjust the channels up and down using the mic.
Can you talk about scanners especially the older crystal type, can they pick up modern stations now of any type?
How to you tune it? Can the settings be adjusted with a computer or take the covers off or both?
That a lot of radio , very nice 👍
It sure is
Eric.....do ya think they will make a combined feature radio?? am/fm/upper/lower ssb
hope that they will, that is what most people are looking for- Let's hope that they are reading the comments and get some ideas.
I 2nd that! I too hope that they are reading the comments and get some ideas. I would buy a new radio from President for the ham shack when one comes out with AM/FM/& SSB
@@eddieslittlestack7919 I dont expect to see an aussie version of these radios with FM, i wud have to import one from the usa if it will get past customs.
Nice radio. I have the walker 2 but I also have the president Lincoln 2+, it has it all...AM/FM/SSB . The Lincoln 2+ has a much better ASC than the Walker 2 but that's the only noticeable difference between my Presidents both radios are top shelf!
glad to hear your thoughts on them
This will be my next radio purchase I took the president bill FCC out of my car. I mostly monitor 19 and with lack of RF gain I couldn't deal with mud duck window licker in the desert.. so I put my uniden knock off CB with RF gain in the car.. money is tight but when I get a head again I will probably get this radio as the scan skip and RF gain and old school styling will make it the ultimate radio. I like to use scan when mobile to find the wide load convoys and chat with them and or local cb channels
that sounds like a good idea, maybe you can resell the old ones to make getting the new one easier
Put one in both! Lol. I love mine. The new Digimic is awesome! try it out, you'll love it!
I have the Digimic and it is awesome, better than I thought it would be
I like FM because it has less noise. also FM can be used with Tone squelch for quieter monitoring. may be people should transmit particular tone like 88.5Hz when transmitting on CH 19 for general use. AG6JU
thank you for the info!
You need to try FM on your President Lincoln down on 26.805 FM.. Also wish you could do a review on the Anytone 6666 radio . Also feel free to check out my Group " The Original FM Calling Channel 26.805 " if you join us 3000 members strong
Do you need a ham general class for that frequency?
Does RF power display on the digital display?
What does FM have to do with CB radios?
FM mode was added to the CB radio, it is another way of transmitting on the CB band.
Eric,
Howdy, sir. I own a President Bill compact radio, and wanted to know if they were ever going to bring out that in an am and fm, or all mode version.
So, I emailed President Corp USA, inquiring on an all mode aam,fm, and ssb rig. They emailed me back saying that they are working on it. So hopefully soon!

thanks for that update- it is great information
I see you recommend president as a brand but no offence intended, is that because they’re giving you freebies or would
you recommend something else ? Really appreciate your thoughts
I would have bought President units even if they were not helping me out. They are a good brand at a decent price- Some of the older ones will need some type of repair simply due to their age. I would get one that you are interested in, some of the older ones are still great units. Good luck
@@FarpointFarms Thanks for the reply Erik, with all your other projects I did wonder if you would have time, so thank you. I have a buddy who might be able to do some home repairs. If I wanted to get an older unit because of superior quality of build than new, and repair it, what would you recommend I look out for? Incidentally, I have a classic car welding & restoration business so let me know if you want to talk welding any time.
Haven’t had a CB radio since cellphone came in use.
Never too late to get back into the hobby!
What does it sound like in FM mode?
I did an AM/FM comparison a while back. A little richer tones in FM.
Looks good as you's know we've had fm cb since 1981 the Xmas of that year put an end to good old alfa mikers killed cb radio after that, I believe fm wasn't as good for town use as am was but who am I to say I grew up with ssb am from Noisy city uk
Yup!
I have another suggestion about which vehicle. Instead of your bus or Beetle, I'd recommend my Chevy!
Ha! Well.....
I’m on the fence between the Walker III and the McKinley. You mentioned the Walker is your ‘second favorite’ but I want to know your No. 1 favorite President radio.
The McKinley!
What are the 5 radios that you have running
