The Tenchu series is actually a gaming milestone. This game laid down the blue print for stealth mechanics and perfected it at once. Stealth hasnt gotten any better really. I remember when I was younger, my dad and I would stay up really late playing Tenchu Wrath of Heaven. I would definitely buy a console just to play that if it was to be remade or a new one was to come out.
Tenchu is a f'ing masterpiece in gaming history, undoubtedly the best Ninja Game franchise ever. The Soundtrack of the first Tenchu was so carefully crafted and fitted perfectly to the levels and the overall feel. The boss fights, especially in Techu 1 + 2 + Fatal Shadows were amazing. Also all the boss characters were very interesting and colorful. Fatal Shadows is the most underrated Tenchu - the double stealth kills were amazing and the new skill system that included attack reversals.
Onimusha series can never be remastered but they certainly could make a new one. The old ones cant be remastered because of likeness rights. Those games used real actors as the models for the characters and capcom no longer holds the rights to use their likenesses. 😥
I love the Tenchu series!!! Tenchu 2 is my favorite though. I still listen to that end credit song. Its so good!! I wish they would remaster, bundle, or reboot this series. It had so many followers! And please bring back Kigame and Tatsumaru.
They need to bring the series back and with a vengeance. some of my Fondest Memories as a child was playing as RikiMaru, running along the rooftops dropping down from the Shadows onto unsuspecting guards and poisoning them with rice balls, was just hilarious. Greatest game ever made
Yep! You sure said it as much as we haven't even gotten a new Tenchu game coming along the way since 2009! And now I'm wondering if Fromsoftware can either develop a sequel or a reboot in the Tenchu franchise! I especially missed Rikimaru so much!! 🇯🇵😎
*Thank you for talking about this!!!* Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is one of my favorite games of all time. It was just one of those games I could play over and over and over without getting bored and I love Rikimaru but Ayame is my fucking GIRL! *Bring back TENCHU!*
Tenchu 3 had the best code/secret ever. Loved the unlockable B-side dialogue that changed all the voiced cutscenes to completely different dialogue changing the 3 stories into various cheesy B-movie subplots. Tenchu 2 was by far the best though, Tatsumaru was a badass.
I bought Tenchu 2 back in 2000 when it first released. I played the hell outta that game. Tenchu 3/wrath of heaven was the overall best game in the series, though. I still own the first Tenchu game, and Fatal Shadows. The controls need serious revamping. I also kind of regret selling Tenchu Z on the 360 years ago. It was a decent and admittedly fun, though overly repetitive game. Arrrgh, I just miss Tenchu as a series. There's very good reasons why the series is dormant, but i still miss it. It deserves better that it has gotten over the years.
I have Tenchu Wrath of Heaven for the PS2 as well. And also have Tenchu Return from Darkness which is an updated version of the PS2 game. And I love return from darkness better than wrath of heaven because it's more updated from the PS2 version of the game obviously. 😎
Fatal Shadows and Wrath of Heaven are my favorites, mostly because having actual camera controls went a long ass way. Still, if 1 and 2 had been remade in FS's engine at the time it likely would have been amazing. Having Rikimaru again *and* level editor mode.
SuperShrooms Tenchu Z was fun, and super repetitive, but it had some good ideas at the time that they should've incorporated into future tenchu games. I loved the character editor aspect. I loved the skill/Stat customization feature. The online mode was also fun if not properly realized. I kinda miss that game.
@Rolando Third Mendiola maybe that year was trash, i just end whole game with easy mode, if this game has beauty in useless hard dodge gameplay its x3 bad, in every aspect this game is beyond normal except bosses. my opinion, good luck
@Rolando Third Mendiola sekiro is better than dark souls but its just hard dodge gameplay and cant understand why they are great games cuz it is hardcore? bullshit, hope elden ring will have good mechanics
Developer From Software has stated that their new game Sekiro Shadows Die Twice was originally a Tenchu game but it became more than that, the more they developed it.
I watch the intro of Wrath of Heavens at least monthly. The magic, i know the miraculous existence of such a game won't repeat, but damn, i want someone to seriously try.
@@Mr.VonStoogle Mmm....agree to disagree. Just because you didnt play as rikimaru or ayame. The gameplay was tight and they expanded upon previous mechanics.
@@BetterCallThall I don't think tenchu z I don't think Tenchu Z was the greatest but I think it's far from terrible. Can't you see a lot of customization but the levels felt lackluster and repetitive after 3 hours you have to play this game to three times to perfect it no thanks but still I did enjoy playing it. Plus just 2 mandatory boss fights, and the story wasn't all that interesting either. I'm playing not playing any of the main characters from Wrath Of Heaven but you're boring protagonist never speaks so he/she has no personality.
50 missions on the same map , doesn't sound masterpiece like to me. Boring characters with no personality and lackluster story. But you're right on the gameplay part it feels very good.
One Love Yeah that's just your opinion though just like how other people say that Tenchu 2 is the worst in the series for it's lame ass overly dramatic soap opera wannabe bullshit story.
only a non tenchu fan would say 2 is the worst. the story makes the game. overly dramatic? death makes for drama and there's a lot of it. maybe it's not award winning writing or acting but it's a video game. 1 is the worst. the mechanics make it unplayable. enemies could see u through walls
Tenchu Fatal Shadows was actually really good. I'd say even better than Wrath of Heaven because the maps were so much nicer and all enemies were actual human not some creepy unrealistic monsters.
I would bring back the tenchu 2 atmosphere hands down. Hide enemy bodies, find objects into their pockets, no music during the missions, and the level editor. All of these features to me were so kickass.
"Tatsumaru! So..my past has caught up with me. Since I killed your father I suppose its my Karma to die by your hand..or perhaps not! I may be old but I can still fight!"
I'd buy a next gen Tenchu game, especially if it was an awesome remake of Tenchu Stealth Assassins, day 1. I 100% Tenchu Z, but it was not a good Tenchu game.
Same. I also 100% Z, but it was...an average game. It was fun though, trying to do a stealth only run when you first start and your footsteps are loud AF. And then you realize all of the missions are the same few maps, just spawning in different places. Customizing your character was cool, and those skills. String em up, upside down.
It wasn't the best, but I liked some of its ideas like character creation/customization and the ability to acquire cool skills - that was a fresh new angle I would like to see again.
I felt like a bad ass when I got my tiny teenage brain around how deep this game actually was. Loved it from start to finish. I wish I still had my old consoles... so bad. Good for you, mate.
Mike O'Keeffe hell yeah I love my ps4 but every now and then I have to pull out the old PlayStation. I'm a collector so I have a bunch of old ps1 games but this one stick's out it's just as good today as it was in the good old 90s.

This game series had a huge impact on me as a kid and Tenchu 2 my favorite of the titles by a good stretch, immense nostalgia and respect, would love to see a remake of the classic titles or a stealthy resurrection to the series in the not to distant future!⚔️🌅☘️
At the end of Tenchu 2 Both Rikimaru and Ayame proclaimed that each of them were going their separate ways. Fatal shadows is the first installment that focused on Ayame's story arc. so of course Rikimaru wasn't available as playable character because he wasn't part of that arc anymore.
Shadow Assassins was great fun, and my first Tenchu. I've since gone back to some of the others and had a great time. Still want to play Tenchu Z someday, but being on the 360 exclusively means I probably never will unfortunately. Don't know what they were thinking releasing it exclusively on a platform that none of its fans owned. Sekiro isn't a stealth game, so it really isn't anything like Tenchu, but Ghosts of Tsushima might be close?
I played the first game as a kid and I loved it so much and their 2 next "sequels", eventually due to disappointed of the later games I totally forgot about the franchise (I had no idea Z existed) but last night for some reason I started to recall the first game, it was so vivid, the music, the blood sound effects... and started wondering what happened to the series. I could not rest well after, I had to know.
I have been playing tenchu Z since 2007. Its my alltime favorite. I have a ps4 with gta 5 etc but I always find myself with the good old 360 and tenchu 😊😊
Tenchu is one of my favourite series ever. A reboot would be amazing! Bring back Ayame and Rikkimaru, with some deep storyline and either big stages or open world. That would be awesome.
Im not eld enough to really have played the first few tenchu. The first thenchu game i played was tenchu z and i still have very fond memories of the game and enjoying every bit of stealth and grusom combat
Glad to see a video about the Tenchu series , I've only played the first two but Tenchu 2 is still one of my favorite games thanks to its story and characterization !
Didn't the original developers make the Shinobido games? They were somewhat of a spirital sucessor to the first two games. They never felt as cool as Tenchu though.
Carl Hammarström yes I believe shinobido was a product of those folks. Great gameplay but the story was paper thin and repetative missions kept it down imo
yeah, Shinobido is the spiritual successor of the Tenchu saga, and it was made by Acquire the original creators of Tenchu. It was a good game, fun to play, but the missions were very repetitive. Anyway, it was a lot better game than all the Tenchu games after "Wrath of heaven"
Shinobido on PS2 is hands-down the game that made me feel like a ninja. Not only could you take missions from whoever you wanted, you could use the mission system itself to screw over your adversaries. You'd usually get a mission request from Team A wanting you to protect a delivery, and a request from Team B asking you to steal the same delivery. If you were on Team A's side, it was actually easier to accept Team B's "steal" mission and voluntarily fail it. But my favourite example of thinking like a ninja was when I was working to topple the Young Lord. My patron sent me a request to assassinate him, but the Young Lord also sent me a mission - he said he'd send his guards away and face me in his castle in honourable one-on-one combat. I accepted, and turned up at his castle to find it completely devoid of guards, as promised. I climbed up the outside of his castle, and located the Lord on the top floor waiting for me. I threw a shuriken into the windowsill, and when he cautiously crept over to investigate I reached in, pulled him outside, and pinned him to the side of his castle with my sword.
Personally I loved, AND STILL DO love, Tenchu Z. It ran so smoothly, and I've put probably 100s of hours into it. It does have repeating maps, but it doesn't really feel that repetitive, since everything's different on each map. It's one of those games you can play 1000 different ways and still have fun. Shadows Die Twice looks really nice. I've been wanting From Software to bring us some more Tenchu. My main concern is that the game seems a bit too "Soulsy". I was hoping for a straight up Samurai/Ninja game with pure realism (or very close to it), and a focus on Stealth/Swordplay as well as crafting of swords (like Way of the Samurai 3, mixed with Tenchu Z stealth). Not sure I like the whole Ninja/Samurai vs Demons thing. Still it DOES look very fun, I'm a huge fan of Souls.
@@Shaddy0089 I keep forgetting that game exists and idk why. I'm excited to see it come out but they barely even talk about it. Makes me worried it might be one of those few moments where a game is announced then just disappears. It was announced like a year ago, right? Yet I've heard next to nothing since then
I wish From Software would bring back Tenchu. But bring it up to date and have the open world and environmental story telling of their more recent SoulsBorne games. Sekiro was fun, but it was too bombastic for a true Ninja experience. I want smarter enemies and to know a normal guard can kill me. Stealth being the focus of gameplay. Maybe some Hitman elements. Though apparently the creator has said he wants to make one for the new generation of consoles. So here's hoping.
I miss this game so much. It's one of my top ten favorites. I am so sad it isn't on Steam. I had the original, Wrath of Heaven, and Fatal Shadows. Loved them all. I know the reviewer didn't like Fatal Shadows, but I really loved the levels.
Fatal Shadows had the best gameplay. The best Ayame. In here you actually make her run fast like in the cutscenes. Having finally nailed the VS aspect, It would've been perfect if Rikimaru was there not moving awkward in a boss fight. Also, the game rewarded skill in being able to pull certain techniques that would end what could be a long fight.
So happy I'm not the only one to miss Tenchu.

True, it was like how Devil May Cry was supposed to be a Resident Evil sequel/spin-off but evolved to be its own game.
@@JM-vl3cy i hate tutorials. Lol
I remember when I was younger, my dad and I would stay up really late playing Tenchu Wrath of Heaven. I would definitely buy a console just to play that if it was to be remade or a new one was to come out.
I have one for sale
damn that must have been awsome, multiplayer was really fun though, I would pay for a remastered wrath of heaven that has co op in it
Tenchu is a f'ing masterpiece in gaming history, undoubtedly the best Ninja Game franchise ever.
You ever play Way of the Shinobi?
It was made by the same people as Tenchu
I remember playing tenchu until 3 am. I was 7 years old then. I really miss this game.
Holy shit same
used to call the healing item "milk"
I would always pray for this game to work on my ps1
I loved tenchu ... what the hell happened to onimusha?
Ryan Russell we already did a video on that :)
Onimusha is one series I eagerly want capcom to revive in some form either a trilogy remake or a completely new game.
Yeah I really want another onimusha
Onimusha series can never be remastered but they certainly could make a new one. The old ones cant be remastered because of likeness rights. Those games used real actors as the models for the characters and capcom no longer holds the rights to use their likenesses. 😥
@@Johnnygrafx thank you I just watched it ... it's such a shame these old good games are being forgotten about..
Best part of the original Tenchu is those creepy demon cat enemies that roam the streets. They gave me the shivers when ever I’m spotted.
They should just remake this game
ABSOLUTELY
They are in fact remaking the original onimusha. It’s by Capcom. I’m not joking
@@TheInfantry98 Yeaah this i know
go play sekiro
Tenchu is trash compared to Sekiro. Everything that Tenchu did in the 1990s Sekiro does infinitely better here in 2019.
Greatest game ever made
This game was my childhood, we deeply need a grounded in reality tench game.
*I had so much fun on Tenchu Z! I hope it gets made backwards compatible on xbox one. ✅😁*

Just downloaded Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven. Man... still fun to play.
Charlie L. On PC.
Questão Yes, sir.
PS4??
You've been a bad boy. It's payback time!
I just finished playing it on my PC, and now i feel hella younger
Wrath of Heaven was the Best!
Yes, it was. I would love a remastered version.
Yep! You sure said it as much as we haven't even gotten a new Tenchu game coming along the way since 2009! And now I'm wondering if Fromsoftware can either develop a sequel or a reboot in the Tenchu franchise! I especially missed Rikimaru so much!! 🇯🇵😎
Tenchu was/is awesome af... Hopefully we will see a new Tenchu at some point.
*Thank you for talking about this!!!* Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is one of my favorite games of all time. It was just one of those games I could play over and over and over without getting bored and I love Rikimaru but Ayame is my fucking GIRL!
*Bring back TENCHU!*
I loved Tenchu 2 with a passion as a child. Awesome game series.
Josh Cawston tatsumaruuuuuuuu!
Yes tatsumaru!!!
I used him in tenchu 3 vs mode to beat the shit out of friend. Remember he was so mad 😂
Tenchu2 has the most epic boss fights.
The original Tenchu is one of the best
Yes what ever happen to the tenchu series? Well X-play is partially to blame for this with their bad review.
One of my favorite games is Tenchu 3 Wrath of Heaven. I love it S2
Master Knight
Magical game... Very underrated

I really adore Tenchu and Shinobido.
It's sad that we haven't had a new installment for over a decade now.
Shinobido 2 I believe was what I had for my Vita and it was probably my favorite game on the system
I loved Tenchu Z. It's one of my favourite last gen games.
I wish they'd port it to next gen, specifically PS4. I'd be playing that more than anything else, even if the online was laggy
literally its only problem was lack of level design to repetitively have you visit the same exact maps just from a different start point
I know w right? And yet Tenchu Z got bad reviews! I loved that game but couldn’t understand the bad reviews
Tenchu Z was ridiculously fun. I really liked the online mode.
I hope Sekiro is a form of From Software testing the waters for a new TENCHU game in the near future. 🤗
Tenchu was exactly what was in my mind when i saw Sekiro
and yet there's no information for the next tenchu
i think sekiro is worst game of year not best, only bosses are good other details are trash, idk how this game is goty
This comment right here
The thing they keep forgetting is that we liked the fact that the Ninjas moved like real people. You felt like you could do it too.
I watch the intro of Wrath of Heavens at least monthly.
The magic, i know the miraculous existence of such a game won't repeat, but damn, i want someone to seriously try.
DUDE, RIGHT?!?!?
Tenchu Z was a masterpiece.
Wrath of Heaven was amazing too. First one I played.
Z was trash
@@Mr.VonStoogle
Mmm....agree to disagree.
Just because you didnt play as rikimaru or ayame.
The gameplay was tight and they expanded upon previous mechanics.
Z was... meh...
50 missions on the same map
, doesn't sound masterpiece like to me. Boring characters with no personality and lackluster story.
But you're right on the gameplay part it feels very good.
The original with just modern graphics would still be an awesome game.
A remake would be awesome! I loved this game and it’s mysticism.
The ability to be super creative got my hooked on this game. I use to play for hours.

Me too !!
Tenchu Z is the only one I've played but I absolutely love it.
Great game!
It was my favorite but none of them will ever beat Tenchu 1 voice acting.
One Love Yeah that's just your opinion though just like how other people say that Tenchu 2 is the worst in the series for it's lame ass overly dramatic soap opera wannabe bullshit story.
@@watermelonmonsterman6027 Tenchu stealth assassins voice acting was hilarious! "Echigoya, where have you hidden?" Still makes me chuckle!
only a non tenchu fan would say 2 is the worst. the story makes the game. overly dramatic? death makes for drama and there's a lot of it. maybe it's not award winning writing or acting but it's a video game.
We need a new or remastered tenchu series now! Imagine if the game is as cinematic as ghost of tsushima 😭

I'd buy a next gen Tenchu game, especially if it was an awesome remake of Tenchu Stealth Assassins, day 1.
I 100% Tenchu Z, but it was not a good Tenchu game.
Genome Soldat i thought it was a good Tenchu game just not amazing like the first 3.
I still have the very first one for PlayStation I love this game

Tenchu stealth assassins was such a great game and I deeply desire a developer to capture that essence on a modern game engine with refined mechanics.
At the end of Tenchu 2 Both Rikimaru and Ayame proclaimed that each of them were going their separate ways. Fatal shadows is the first installment that focused on Ayame's story arc. so of course Rikimaru wasn't available as playable character because he wasn't part of that arc anymore.
ayame was going to protect princess kiku and rikimaru wanted to serve lord gohda. kiku is gohda's daughter. not really separate ways
This game changed my life. I really started to train in a real dojo. I really tried to be a ninja
I spent my allowance on tenchu 1 and a meme card n loved it
Tenchu shadow assassins was my first tenchu game...I don't know why I suddenly remember it but I do know it was a hell of a lot of fun
My First Tenchu game was
Tenchu Z on the Xbox 360 and I enjoyed playing the hell out it
You need to play the 1st Tenchu game. The original way on ps1.

I don't like the Shinobido games. The last one I played on the Vita was terrible. I took that shit right back to the store for a full refund. 😂🤣😆
yeah, Shinobido is the spiritual successor of the Tenchu saga, and it was made by Acquire the original creators of Tenchu.
Shinobido Imashime on PS2 is the best ninja game ever, agreed!
I was hoping for a straight up Samurai/Ninja game with pure realism (or very close to it), and a focus on Stealth/Swordplay as well as crafting of swords
(like Way of the Samurai 3, mixed with Tenchu Z stealth). Not sure I like the whole Ninja/Samurai vs Demons thing. Still it DOES look very fun, I'm a huge fan of Souls.
James Yeager facts I'm also looking forward to ghost of Tsushima
@@Shaddy0089 I keep forgetting that game exists and idk why. I'm excited to see it come out but they barely even talk about it. Makes me worried it might be one of those few moments where a game is announced then just disappears. It was announced like a year ago, right? Yet I've heard next to nothing since then
I'm still playing tenchu in 2020
I'm really nostalgic-
Me too, playing tenchu san portabel now on ppsspp
Still a loyal fan here. The game literally grew up with me, and in me.

I would love a comeback from Tenchu honestly
We need TENCHU again 2019😭
mortalkombatXL yes plz 🙏🏾
An open world Tenchu game would be a masterpiece and a Tenchu 3 remake would be dope too
Fatal Shadows had the best gameplay.
Bruh I LOVED Tenchu Z seasoned of my top 10.
6 years later no tenchu
Without Tenchu, there would have been no Assassins Creed.
And maybe its the reason why they didnt do a AC: Japan.
The first games need a remake, the story in Tenchu 2 is my favorite!
