🕵️‍♂️ Stealthy Secrets: I reveal some of the game's best-kept secrets (not really). From glitches to trivia, you'll be amazed at what you can find in this game.
    Game Info:
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins is a 1998 stealth video game developed by Acquire for the PlayStation. The debut entry in the Tenchu series was published in Japan by Sony Music Entertainment Japan and by Activision in the West. Following Rikimaru and Ayame of the Azuma ninja clan as they complete missions for their employer, Lord Gohda, in Sengoku-era Japan, the gameplay involves the player guiding their chosen character through missions, the aim being to remain undetected while either avoiding or quietly killing enemies. Production began in 1996 as Acquire's first project, aiming to create a then-uncommon game using only 3D graphics, in addition to focusing on stealth over action. The team faced multiple technical challenges, and director Takuma Endo took on multiple roles within the production, including scenario writer. It met with positive reception from game journalists, with praise focusing on its mission design and focus on stealth. It was also a commercial success, selling over one million units worldwide by 2003 and having estimated sales of five million across all versions by 2019.
    Plot Summary:
Tenchu is set in Japan's turbulent Sengoku period and follows missions undertaken by the stoic ninja Rikimaru and spirited kunoichi Ayame of the Azuma ninja clan, who are employed by the benevolent Lord Gohda and his daughter Princess Kiku, who treats Ayame like an older sister.
    Legacy:
Tenchu was one of a number of titles released in the late 1990s that pioneered the stealth game genre alongside Thief: The Dark Project and Metal Gear Solid. The success of Tenchu helped establish Acquire as a company, though it would also limit their titles to a Japanese aesthetic for some time. Activision demanded a sequel for Western players, which Acquire developed under Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins. Acquire would not return to the series until 2008's Tenchu: Shadow Assassins. "Tenchu" has spawned several sequels and spin-offs, each expanding on the Tenchu universe with unique characters, stories, and gameplay elements. Explore the evolution of the series and see how it has influenced modern stealth games.

really nice to see all these secrets. I'll admit to using the health code alot...especially on the final stage.
Also used level select initially, if only because of how scared i got with the manji cult stage.
There are some other secrets like luring Onikage back to the river in the final level and knocking him in, he auto dies since despite his cheapness at blocking blades with his legs, he apparently can't swim.
I've actually played the DS game, It's not that good, it's a bunch of mini missions with an overhead style view, but you don't even use your grappling hook, and the story isn't that great either (it takes place after tenchu 2 supposedly and is really weird). The PSP game is very similar in it being mostly small missions but it uses the regular camera views, the only interesting about it is you actually can play as Onikage, but the stories of the characters still feel pretty weak compared to the main entries, and happen to be all over like Rikimaru has beaten Tenrai, but Tesshu who is in the game, your controlling him before he joined the Muzen group in Wrath of Heaven.
When it comes to Shadow Assassins on the Wii and Z on the 360, I found myself having more fun with the latter as it played more like a tenchu game despite not having a very good story, the wii entry just confused with it's playstyle, and the story while definitely stronger than Z's felt kind of off at least to me, especially with how it ended...
Seikiro is the only "Dark soul" style game i've ever fully completed simply due to it's nods to tenchu.
Looking forward to more content, keep it up^^

Ah the debug code, best thing about that? Not only could you clear the map of enemies and literally make your own level... You could save it to another memory card slot and load it via the debug menu! A mate and I used to call them D-scenario and we'd make them almost impossible (like ten guards in the room with the Manji statue for example)

    • @monsiplays
      @monsiplays  5 місяців тому +1

That is where more talented individuals than me could make the most creative levels. That is why I gave only a rough overview of the debug menu because I'm simply not smart enough to use it to its full potential.

@@monsiplays we screwed up many a run by getting the saves wrong lol Best thing we did was give player 2 control of Onikage and have some epic one on one battles. Was even funnier if player 2 Onikage replaced the boss and won the fight, player 2 got to rub it in with his death taunt XD

Thank you so much for this video, I had never tried the cheat codes for this game,
even though I was part of the legendary golden age of the PlayStation 1
I bought 2 Code books for PlayStation 1 just in the last few days, and they both had WRONG CODES for Tenchu Stealth Assassins
Tenchu Shinobi Gaisen and Tenchu 2 Birth of the Stealth Assassins.......
I spent a whole night and couldn't understand from the few explanations how they didn't work...

If they ever made another tenchu game, i wouldnt want it to play like a souls game. Meaning stealth should be the focus as it always has been, it should still be challenging, not a hack and slash, but can get lost in the aesthetic of ninjas clashing against ronins and eventually demons and other strange creatures towards the end. Maybe have a noise meter, and the more items you carry make more noise and actually appear on your character. For instance jumping around with armor shouldnt be soundless 😂 (unless you beat the game with no alerts and unlock the super secret ninja armor) 😆 and it would be cool to have some more freedom to carry out certain missions like hitman style where everything could be a tool. Or. New IP idea, hitman style assassin in the sengoku era.

This is why I, sort of, hate on Kojima's MGS sometimes. It is the inferior videogame, but is the videogame that ended up having the greater impact and sent videogaming into a faux cinematographic state:
    Tenchu 2: BotSA:
3rd Person Camera on two different positions, higher and lower.
    You can aim with triangle.
You can crouch and roll in every direction.
You can sheath and unseathe weapons.
You can switch back and forth with X while crouching.
    Forward frontflip jump.
Ninja flip to switch positions and get to higher places.
Different stealth executions from all sides, aerial and crouching.
Facial animations, mouth movements and different expressions on all characters.
Long story, beautifully voice acted, three different POVs, three different characters with different mechanics.
    Challenging bosses.
    MGS1:
You can hide inside a box.
You can crawl (I rather crouch, tho)
    Tap on walls.
    Use binoculars.
Control missiles with a missile launcher.
    Smoke (???)
Character leaves footprints (cool but gimmicky)
Greater AI systematically, deadlier alert system.
Better cinematography (but this is a videogame, this shouldn't be that important)

it is a bit of a shame that Thief and MGS (Mostly MGS) took a lot of the spotlight away from Tenchu as far as 3D stealth games are concerned. While MGS may have the "better" stealth system, Tenchu really nails the feeling of being a Shinobi in the same way Thief makes you feel like a THIEF.

    • @monsiplays
      @monsiplays  2 місяці тому

It shouldn't be that hard to miss, although going through it the correct way is what makes the level challenging: narrow hallways, ascending the tower with no idea where the enemy will be, constantly having to look above you, etc.
