I love that these conversations are happening and I hope to see/hear more! I have Fr. Peter’s book and look forward to reading it. As a cradle who attended public grade and junior high school, Catholic high school and college, and now homeschool my own children, the differences between all three are striking. It is by the grace of God I survived public school. Attending a Catholic high school was a much holier atmosphere and education, but was still difficult to discern the differences with Orthodoxy. Thankfully my teachers were all very respectful and encouraging of my faith, but a stronger Orthodox catechesis at church and home was very much needed. I also love the St. Paisios quote regarding the desert fathers and our difficult times. How motivating! These are the best of times and the worst of times… but glory to God for all things!

Good Morning, Child development as an Orthodox Christian, IMHO, must encompass the following: 1- Parents must lead by example , 2-Along with Reading , Writing and Asthmatic, Bible studies, 3-Social life that balances Technology and Social Media so as to align with the Orthodox faith.

1:02:00 on "tool" vs not tool, perhaps its more akin to "developing talents", since each individual child will have its own to be developed, which can then be offered back to Christ (or, buried, or stymied with improper education). St Mark was also highly educated, and raised up by God to smash the heresies into the ground.
It would be nice to have a longer series with Dr Mark, on the subject (the core aspects) for all of the Orthodox struggling with to figure out home-school coops, homeschool and the like.
MANY contemporary Saints talked about the importance and need of Orthodox schools - the book "Glorified in America" shows this (St Tikhon comes to mind, St Raphael I believe), and St John of Shanghai and San Francisco was always adamant everywhere he served - unfortunately, Orthodox fell to the temptation of sending them to hetereodox schools (ecumenism, "oh they are all the same"), which unfortunately, caused a few generations of American 2nd/3rd gens to leave the Church - across multiple ethnics (slavic, Greek - not just one diaspora).
