As a former Tesla and now Rivian owner, I’m so glad Rivian finally caught up to Tesla with the pre heat or pre cool feature ( pre condition) off the grid. It saves a lot of battery and daily range. It’s similar to preconditioning battery before supercharging to get that battery nice and warm.
7:10 here he’s talking about one-pedal driving which many of us BEV pilots absolutely love. There’s been times when I’ve driven for weeks without using the brakes.
I barely use my brake
This will be my first update as an owner I can't wait!
Monthly updates are great, congratulations
Climate scheduling will be absolutely fantastic for those of us living in 'extreme' climates. Love that I will have this going into next summer. Not having to remember 30 minutes before leaving work to have to go in and kick on the AC will be *"*chef's kiss*"*
100%
Thanks for posting this, please make more videos like this, your detailed explanations are great.
Glad you took a digression for the Sand Hill Crane. Cool!
I love those birds
The auto wipe function was already very good. I rarely had to tell my truck to wipe or change speed. The 2.4kw/mi avg you had on your efficiency graph was impressive!
Sometimes I drive with the purpose of trying to get a high efficiency haha
I already love manually heating my R1S before I leave but doing it on a schedule is going to be amazing.
It’s great on cold days and hot days!
Thank you for this content. Beautiful Sand Hill Crane.
Thank you for watching
Thanks very much for this and for all your work to communicate and review Rivian software! It's a benefit to us all!
Happy to help!
Thanks for putting this together!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Hope to try my R1S in the snow near Seattle this weekend!
Have fun!
Thank you 👍🏻
You’re welcome 😊
Very helpful video.
Glad you think so!
I love that they added the climate schedule! I used for first time this morning (scheduled M-F last night before bed). I scheduled to leave the house at 7:55am and this morning I noticed it was already running by 7:30 (possibly earlier but I checked at 7:30). Is it normal to start this early? The cabin was up to temp by 7:43 when I checked again. Normally I would start the cabin about 10 minutes before I leave the house. For reference, it was about 35 degrees this morning in NJ and I find that 10 minutes usually works.
Yes it’ll start as early as it needs to for it to warm or cool the cabin
Jose, I don't think the new brake assist will introduce ANY additional wear on the brakes for me. I really enjoy one-pedal driving and set my regen to High. I'm expecting the brake assist will simply apply the brakes for me in situations where I would otherwise have to manually press the brakes. In the end, no additional manual breaking and thus same wear-and-tear on the brakes.
Good point!
Where is the feature/toggle for this option “Additionally, for consistent drive performance, you can now keep your vehicle plugged in to maintain optimal battery pack condition without impacting range.” I wonder if that is the Energy Usage option you toggled?
“Maintain range” is a reference to keeping the battery pack warm (in cold climates) as opposed to pulling the energy for cabin comfort from the grid?
Just a thought…
I discuss it in the video, when scheduling there’s an option there to pull from grid to warm/cool the vehicle
Thanks for replying, not trying to argue. I think it’s potentially misleading, and this is just a hypothesis:
The release notes mention maintaining optimal “battery temp,” not cabin temp. So I think this option is saying that when you have a scheduled drive it will not only condition the cabin (whether plugged in or not), but if you’re plugged in and that option is on it will pull from the grid to warm your BATTERY up so you don’t get the large range loss associated with cold temperatures. This is why the release notes mention optimal battery conditions and range.
Again, I’m 90% sure this is what it means. It is not that it’ll pull from the grid to offset the energy used to condition the cabin as it would do that anyways if you don’t have a charging schedule set (where it wouldn’t attempt to charge to offset the energy used to condition the cabin if the charging schedule doesn’t allow).
This makes sense because if you did have a time of use program, it’s highly unlikely that you’d want to use 1kw from the grid to condition the cabin at a time when rates are high, when you could just use the 1kw from the battery pack and then get that 1kw back at night when charging at a fraction of this cost.
On the other hand, if range is important and the weather is cold, you’re likely willing to pay a higher time of use rate to get an extra 20-30% of mileage from a cold pack because you need the range. And if you don’t, you can turn it off.
Still on 2023.46.0 and haven’t received any further updates. Is that normal?
It rolls out in batches so it may take some time to arrive to you
If you have it set the use the grid, if your not plugged in will it still precondition the cabin? (Cool bird)
Yes it’ll just use your battery
Any idea what will happen if your schedule your climate and ask it to pull from the charger, but the truck is not plugged in when the schedule starts? Will it just default to the HV battery from the truck or will it cancel the schedule?
It’ll do climate conditioning but not battery conditioning
Does anyone know if you can create a one time use "schedule" or do you have to adjust your schedule every time if you want a temporary adjustment?
You can only setup scheduling for specific days of the week so you would just have to turn it off
@@riviantrackr That's unfortunate. I was really hoping for something like that. Like you, I also work from home, so I don't have a regular schedule when I'm driving my R1T. But there are plenty of times when I know I'll be going on a longer trip and want to warm up the batteries and get the climate ready. For example, I might want want to make sure the truck is ready to go tomorrow, and only tomorrow, at 7 am. I suppose I could create a schedule for that, but I would have to then delete or disable it after that time had passed. I would equate it to setting an alarm for one time use. I'm still very happy to see this added functionality. Rivian is constantly making significant improvements, and I love it!
I’d love to know what they meant by improved maneuverability at slow speeds
That was hard to test
@@riviantrackr I figured, very curious if they are talking about adjusting steering ratio, or somehow figured how to adjust wheel speed for slow turns
Improved throttle at low speeds. There's significantly more predictible control especially in reverse.
Does it warm the battery also in cold weather?
Yes!
Battery preconditioning from the grid not part of the scheduled drive? Big miss.
Your battery will precondition if you are plugged in
Rivian has also told me that this update will fix the issue where the app shows a window is open (its not) and therefore I cannot roll down my window with the buttons in car.
Waiting for the update still.
Did you get it?
@@riviantrackr got it. Did not fix the window. Going to sc Thursday.
“Nothing major”…understatement of the year
😅
I hope they add serious Xm radio soon
Rivian announced it’s coming this year
It's funny that both of your off-topic tangents are on-brand. Almost as if planned.
What do you mean?
🥱🥱🥱 still waiting for the feature updates everyone’s waiting for 😢
This one has small QoL features that are great but I agree, I’m waiting for the fun things
