Comedian Buddy Hackett won my everlasting respect when he said on a TV talk show that there should be a giant statue of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel erected right in the most prominent spot in the middle of Las Vega because Siegel was the true founder of that city and all that it became. Of course, that will never happen, but Hackett was right.
As a Jewish person if I had to chose between never having Las Vegas existing or bugsy siegel being put down early in life so that he wouldnt be a nuisance to society I would pick the latter.

@@UNPACKED first I wasn't raised like that up till grade 4 until he moved my best friend was Jewish I got suspended from school protecting him when an older kid called him the k word I never heard it b4 but my friend broke down crying it was the only time my mom never got mad for getting suspended from school and then I got older and was walking I had a gold chain with a cross that my grandparents got me and these 2 Jewish guys spat at me and they tried to take it from me and broke my chain I was furious my father died later and I was watching videos of his favourite soccer team Celtic fc I put rip dad I miss watching games with you and someone who was Jewish had the Israel flag for his picture and Jewish writing for his name said your dad's burning in....... For some reason this doesn't get talked about a lot.

It is so disturbing to me how many of my Jewish brethren lean into the “academic, nerdy, frail” stereotype. American Jewish men have brought it upon themselves. A true Hebrew is be a proud masculine mensch who follows in the steps of his ancestors.
Some of us still have blue collars & dirt under our fingernails. But the Western Jewish community has embraced this miserly portrayal that displays weakness. Our youth is increasingly less proud of their identity.
We are badass nomadic survivors who can build paradise in a desert. It’s time we acted like it, took off the white collar persona. That’s not who we are.

Lansky Lounge. They tried to bring the West coast swing dancing scene over to NYC. It worked for a year but nobody was really swing dancing so the concept (and old music) got a little tired. Their martinis were fantastic though.

I know that my great Nona and Nono had a bodega / market somewhere in Brooklyn after fleeing Sicily (ww 2). My Nona was fierce so she managed to get protection for their shop but made some deal with them , she would sell them alcohol for that. Later when their son grew (my fathers father) he had his own electronics shop and he had protection as well. Around the 70s, my father and his dad moved to Florida (never told him why). And around the 80s they made Aliyah. They left my grandma (my dad’s mom, who is from Ecuador) and my aunt in the USA. My dad was 11 and he lost all contact with his mother and sister for over 45 years. Until 2011 when my aunt tried to contact my dad to tell him their aunt passed away. Eventually they came to visit and it was the first time I’ve met them. Anyway, what we’re talking about ? I got carried away lol

A lot of Jews would say it is an ethnic background as well but you are absolutely right that Jewish and Italian immigrants have a lot in common. Jewish and Italian mobsters for sure had a lot of respect for each other and in general our historical journeys in this country are definitely similar

That’s funny, I knew about the temple in Beverly Hills but never made the connection while watching the video. Lansky tried to use the right of return and stayed in Israel for two years while it went through court, but he ended up getting his citizenship request denied and was deported back to the US. I’m not sure if other Jewish mobsters had similar experiences though

His son in law Richard Schwartz was at a club The Forge . I was there sitting a couple seats down from him. I did not see it but heard this. Schwartz shot th Terriacca and he died. I got out of there in 5 seconds . They locked it down. I can't remember but Schwartz was not convicted and no trial. Forward 2 or so years and Scwartz owned a flower shop in Bal Harbor an. Mysteriously he was executed in the parking lot of his shop.
Lansky died an old man in Miami alone.
That's my anecdote. I haven't mentioned it in many years.
