4:11 Something to add to Arnold Rothstein's list of gambling-related crimes was that he was the man whom eight star members of the Major League Baseball team known as the Chicago White Sox went to to cut a deal. This deal would see the players, forevermore known to history as "The Black Sox", purposefully throw the 1919 World Series - which their team was heavily favoured to win over their opponent, the Cincinnati Reds - in exchange for money that the White Sox's tyrannical and miserly owner, Charles Comiskey, refused to give them as part of their contracts and that the players were, at the time, powerless to demand even though it was well-deserved. It's a small detail that doesn't negatively affect this excellent video by virtue of its exclusion, but I would argue that it's the action Rothstein is most famous for and so might've deserved a mention.
@@furioussherman7265 Yeah, I love that detail about him. Truly one of the greats of that time, even while for the most part keeping out of the spotlight, he definitely left his mark on the criminal underworld and US history in general.
I'm astounded at the character of Meyer Lansky. A well mannered Jewish boy from Poland in America, was so intellectually gifted that they had to make him skip a grade him twice. That kind of thing doesn't really happen unless a student is without a doubt to advanced for a grade. I've been aquainted with very bright individuals who went on to become someone great or at the least achieved success, but didn't come close to be considered to skip a grade. Meyer passes the sixth grade with honours as well, after being skipped twice. He turns around, leaves school and becomes a gangster. My mind is blown.
You know who skipped 2 grade(and in high-school no less) Jeffery Epstien. The thing is Epstien was actually one of the brightest financial minds on the planet. The rich mainly went to him to launder there money 💰, everyone fixiates on the sex but never the money 💰.
Great video. Love the beautiful artwork. I think it is funny & ironic that Meyer Lansky’s grandson also named Meyer, is a founder of The Mob Museum in Las Vegas.
I had a book like that I actually stole it from the library big white book mafia abc’s or something it had everything about every mobster from A to Z with pictures. I love that book. I gonna try to find it again one day.
Yes his tribe in Hollywood has made sure to make him a legend and give him credit for all kinds of things he never did. Hyman Roth was 100x the man Meyer was. That's why he was broke and living on a fixed income the last 30 years of his life. Couldn't he at least pull himself up to middle class? Couldn't he have tapped into his "connections" in New York for a juice loan that he could parlay into a fortune? lol
Wow, you are really talented. This was by far thee best take on Meyer Lansky. Totally and very interesting, from start too finish! May God richly bless everyone ✝️🇺🇸!
This guy was spectacular and amazing, doing large numbers of math in seconds? Only three months in jail for a life of crime? Outstanding! As a short man myself, I feel a little inspired now. Why hasn't this guy had a major movie made about him yet, is beyond me.
There was a movie called “Lansky” made, I wanna say, a year ago. Never saw it-seems like the consensus is that Harvey Keitel gives a masterful performance in otherwise cliche and mediocre film
I swear dude, all these videos are cinema quality. Each could be extended into an entire feature film. I have no clue how you do the background paintings, but they could be hung in expressionist museums.
it's getting about 30-50% of the views our videos usually do at this time, so my sense is that only around half of subscribers received it in their feed 😑
I better understand what inspired Once upon a time in America, the story between Meyer, Bugsy and Luciano sounds similar to the noodles and co. story. Astonishing video quality.
My late grandmother always said we were related to him, she stated that he was an uncle of hers but her side of the family wanted nothing to do with him. Apparently, after she was married to my grandpa, a sports car appeared on their driveway shortly after. Suspecting it was Lanksy, my grandma said she got rid of it immediately not wanting any connection to him or the mob. That’s all I know but my brother and I always thought it was strange

My favorite book to read at my grandparents house was MAFIA USA...strange choice for a preteen, but it was a great book.
For me it was Bloodletters and Badmen
I had a book like that I actually stole it from the library big white book mafia abc’s or something it had everything about every mobster from A to Z with pictures. I love that book. I gonna try to find it again one day.
Any documentary by you is pleasure please do another one on the mob
I don’t know much about anything but the art is incredible.
Absolutely phenomenal video and very well put together. Makes me wish I could’ve been in the mob back in the day lol
Man ahead of his time..... legend.
Totally and very interesting, from start too
finish! May God richly bless everyone ✝️🇺🇸!
Great video as always! You should do a video on Simon Bolivar, one of Latin America's greatest figures!
would love to do a Bolivar one! We’ve somehow never gotten to South American history yet, so that may be the one!
@@HistoryDose Bernardo O'Higgins is an interesting figure from that era as well
This video is perfect timing because I just started binging Boardwalk Empire
I had to throw in the Boardwalk scene 😄. The song that starts chapter 2 here is actually played in Boardwalk as well
Story telling is top notch here.
Man you are an ARTIST. Love you man.
I can say for sure, Hello Fresh is definitely a great service
Agreed! Far exceeded my expectations.
9:40 is why I keep coming back that just surreal that this happened
I feel like like im actually living in the timeline of your vids lad thank you for the upload
More of this! Amazing work as always.
@@HistoryDose I'm probably gonna check it out, depending on how bad the reviews are.
He was a major character in Boardwalk Empire
@@KingDanny9 was pretty good some things didn't happen and some things where not portrayed correctly but still pretty decent.
The movie would reveal things big powers don't want known
I love how in the end he just saw the whole thing as just Business, that's a real mobster
That's Jews for ya
I swear dude, all these videos are cinema quality. Each could be extended into an entire feature film.
I have no clue how you do the background paintings, but they could be hung in expressionist museums.
Thanks so much! Check the speed painting playlists on the channel for a demonstration of how the paintings are made!
@@HistoryDose Thanks for your quick reply! Most underrated channel on UA-cam.
The writing in your videos is superb.
1933 Fry Radio & Red Rum in Purple Waters.
The choice of music! Man. Felt like I was watching Goodfellas
I did not see this in my notifications I had to look at the community tab to see it
it's getting about 30-50% of the views our videos usually do at this time, so my sense is that only around half of subscribers received it in their feed 😑
I wonder how the convo went when he asked to take out the boss
Well all Carlos Gambino did was give a nod of his head.
Such a legend, one of the most notorious that got out untouched.
Make money not war.
I better understand what inspired Once upon a time in America, the story between Meyer, Bugsy and Luciano sounds similar to the noodles and co. story. Astonishing video quality.
Very well done! Just one quick fix though. His name was Meir, not Meyer. Meir means 'he who sheds light' in Hebrew.
