I never realized how intricate and wonderful magnolia seeds are. The beautiful red seed color. The dry up cone pod. The Amazing tree that produce these seeds. WOW.
Your tree is beautiful. DON’T CUT IT DOWN! The shape of yours is wonderful. Most Magnolias that I’ve seen here in South Carolina are slender and tall, yours is so full, amazingly beautiful 💚
Thank you....sadly I had to leave it. We decided to start our own homestead on 22 acres...starting over from scratch now on a timer farm. 🤪. We made the decision and sold house and move almost less then 2 months and i now regret getting seeds from the tree. It provided shade and foliage year round.
Those seed pods are incredibly fire-resistant. I use them as 'coals' in an alcohol-burner. Pour 70% Isopropyl Alcohol on it and set fire to it. It chars a bit on the outside but the inside doesn't burn. Can be repeated numerous times.
What??? I wish I new this before we moved. That is pretty awesome knowledge. Thank you for sharing. I wish to put one in my new place but read somewhere that they attract mosquitoes. Do you know of this is true??.
@@simplegardening6196 I think the Japanese ones might not be but the every part of the Southern Magnolia should be. I've only did a little research and am not well versed in gardening so I'd double check.
Hey..thx for stopping by. I imagine that it would grow since in nature if it drops to the ground, nature would take its course and develop without my help. Lol we like to thunk that we k ow what we are doing but nature does it best.
@@simplegardening6196 my heart really started pumping when you said you were gonna cut down that tree just because it was dropping leaves!!!! Not cool. But I am glad you didn't.
@@simplegardening6196 I also hope you look into some garden design online. I did hear you say that you are gonna do a round garden or something. Hopefully you plant a lot in a way that the grounds are fully covered. Looking forward to it. :)

If you leave the low branches that are growing close to the ground most of the leaves stay beneath the tree .

Have you ever tried to eat the fruit around the seed? I was wondering how it would taste but can't find any online.
I didn't even know they were edible. I have not tried it. Curious....

It is hard and spiky, not tempting!
@@RupertBruce ... You eat the red seeds not the wooden pods. The fruit is not in anyway spikey
So what if you just put that whole thing in the ground will it still grow

Did you plant the seeds?
No. I should have. Wish I had some little trees I can take to my new homestead now. 😔😔
I thought the pods were red?
Is is dried?
Ye it is dried...pod turned brown and seed is a beautiful red
Seeds edible ? Yes or No ?
They are not.
Did you cut down this tree?!!!
No..we sold the house before we could cut it down....so now I get to grow new stuff on the new property.

Do not cut down the beautiful magnolia tree
Lol thank you for stopping by. We ended up keeping the tree. Than ended up selling the house and move and the new owner had it cut down.
@@simplegardening6196 so sad they cut it down.
