I thought the film used the male gaze as a cheeky way to comment on itself and then used the creation of the Frankenhooker character to subvert this gaze, further punctuated by a possible queer reading for the ending (see Gracie Bain's "Frankenbitch[es]" essay on Film/Literature Quarterly).
I watched this for a movie club and honestly? I would call Frankenhooker “The Modern Pygmalion” with how much Jeff focuses on creating the most attractive woman and not “the most accurate Elizabeth”.
I recently actually read Frankenstein for the first time, and this movie is such a fun take. Neither protagonist is a good person, but there's no story without them, so... yay? Awesome kill count.
This is the type of movie you introduce your friends to on Halloween night without giving them any context or warnings prior you just say something like “Hey we’re going to watch a Frankincense movie tonight but there’s a catch to it.” like you don’t even tell them the movie’s title you just sit back and watch them watch and try and understand whatever the hell you just made them watch all together

I love these Kill Counts!! I never would have known about Frankenhooker if it wasn't for this channel! I love learning new movies to check out. This film seems like a perfect back to back watch with Reanimator lol mainly Bride of Reanimator.
This was one of the first wacky and weird horror movies I ever saw. I remember it was in some channel late at night, at child me caught a glimpse at it. I was WAY too young to watch it lol, but it did make me more interested in less conventional more out there movies.
I first saw this movie this past August at a drive-in horror marathon (along with Psycho, Nightmare on Elm Street and the remake of the Blob). It was the last movie of the night and after a long day of exploring New York City, I was dozing off. I tried really hard to stay awake but I blacked out several times. I forced myself to stay awake during the opening, but then I clocked out. I remember waking up to the sound of screams and opened my eyes to the insane visual of sex workers blowing up. I had no idea how we got there, but after the screaming stopped, I dozed off again. Woke up again to FrankenHooker walking the streets then blacked out again. Woke up one final time when Jeffery got his block knocked off and Zorro was taken by the body parts. And then I saw the weird ending. This is a weird weird movie, so imagine watching it when you’re half asleep! I did watch it while I was conscious this past week for this Kill Count and I really enjoyed it. 😄
If you're willing to do a movie like Frankenhooker, then maybe one day you can do a movie like Species - if I had to describe it to you James, its essentially a sci-fi skin flick.
I cannot stress enough how this channel is my kind of people. When you merge things like the horror royal rumble and then something so out of the back left pocket as Bloodhound Gang's Mope which was one of the most controversial music videos of my teens... it all just makes me feel like I'm not some social pariah, just in the wrong area missing people who would relate more to me. Favorite line: "There was always prostitute parts laying around."
Oh lord, I can’t wait to see what James thinks of Thanksgiving. Personally I think Eli Roth COMPLETELY missed the point of the fake trailer, even though he made it. I’m glad people enjoyed it, but I can’t lie to myself and say THATS what I wanted for the past 16 years. Glad it got made though.
I watched this for the first time before Halloween. It’s ridiculous, cheap in parts and has charm. I do like Patty Mullen in this, has a bit of a warm charm to her act before she dies and after she's brought back at the end. But I just know this was a bit of a pain in the ass to edit even with a team.
Frankenhooker is one of my earliest memories of my mom helping me get into the horror genre as a kid. I can directly link this movie to my general taste in movies, but why I adore low budget horror in particular.
After almost 35 years seeing bits and pieces of this movie (see what I did there? 😏) I FINALLY sat down and watched this last year for my 61 Nights Of Halloween Countdown lol Still one of my favorite takes on the Frankenstein story! Thanks for doing this one guys! Still makes me laugh seeing her walking around trying to find a John lol

Frankenhooker is one of my earliest memories of my mom helping me get into the horror genre as a kid. I can directly link this movie to my general taste in movies, but why I adore low budget horror in particular.

After almost 35 years seeing bits and pieces of this movie (see what I did there? 😏) I FINALLY sat down and watched this last year for my 61 Nights Of Halloween Countdown lol Still one of my favorite takes on the Frankenstein story! Thanks for doing this one guys! Still makes me laugh seeing her walking around trying to find a John lol
