Ok so I open this review for the first time, i see lukaslukas saying this is the most important shafrillas video, and also this comment, i have no idea what to think
I should share this snippet I saw from ‘Moana 2’: Moana & Maui are being chased by 4 of the Coconut pirates from the first movie because of this dehydration gun they stole from them. Maui: How do I stop these 4 villains at once?!? Tamatoa, now bigger than the main island for some reason, comes crashing out of the Ocean to scream… Tamatoa: SHOOT THEM WITH THE DEHYDRATION GUN!!!
The sheer hype in his voice at the end made the monotonous reflection of the movie worth it Random edit but y'all should join the Schaffrillas Productions Community server on Disboard to celebrate my 1k likes as those comments say
I just got out of the theaters and was ready to see your review. You were right in your frozen 2 review when you said you could tell when a movie had trouble during productions
If anything good came from this movie is the fact that It has a whole dub in maori, its Nice to see a "big budget" animated ser... I mean movie being translated to an indigenous language for once
Yeah this felt like them recognizing their mistakes when it came to accurately representing indigenous cultures that they they made with Pocahontas, Emperor's New Groove and Lilo and Stitch
This film really makes me feel like the spirit of Michael Eisner and his constant need to make direct to dvd sequels to classic Disney films truly never left the company.
Thank you for your sacrifice. My brother and I have been debating between seeing Moana 2 (as an ironic watch) or Wicked, and these reviews have been vital in convincing my brother to see Wicked with me.
I've heard nothing but good things from people who've seen it. The only negative I've heard so far is that the second part isn't out yet and they're sad they have to wait a year.
4:47 I’m glad it wasn’t just me. When I first saw the trailer for the movie, without any knowledge of anything, I still thought that the animation looked cheap and lifeless compared to the first Moana
Getting tired of the trend of the “crazy gaggle of friends” in recent Disney movies where they have little to no chemistry, but the movie needs to convince you that they do. They end up being forgettable in the end.
The biggest red flag this movie had was the moment it was announced to originally be a tv series💀. Like that doesn’t build any confidence in the viewers expecting a great sequel to the original.
What's most insane about the possible time crunch about this movie is it supposedly went into production simultaneously with the Moana live-action remake in April 2023, meaning the show had only been working on the movie for less than a year before it was reworked as a theatrical release. **Less than two years was spent working on this movie before its release. Think about that.**
4:04 "do I look like someone who'd settle for the Poor Man's Shiny?" Reminds me of how during a Halloween event, there was a guy dressed as Tamatoa... But I literally forgot Tamatoa's name and said "Love your Schaffrillas costume!" Then I realized what I said and he corrected me in Tamatoa's name (but he does watch your videos). So yeah you definitely do not look like someone who'd settle for the poor man's Shiny
"Our in-house movies don't work because we keep intervening and not doing anything to let creatives be creative, and don't do any marketing... IT'S THE ANIMATORS' FAULT!” - Disney Executives, probably.
Last month, when the people behind my town's theater participated in a trick or treat thing, they themed their stuff around both Moana 2 and Wicked. One of the characters somebody dressed up as was Tamatoa. As they should.
Well, at least they briefly brought Tomatoa back. This film reminds me of when Disney put "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" in front of "Coco" instead of keeping it as a television short like was planned. Their reasoning was that the overall look and animation was so beautiful that it just HAD to be seen on the big screen, despite being about 22 minutes long and people wanting to see "Coco" instead of a near half hour long Frozen short. I feel like that was just the start of Disney making poor decisions. Some things that are made for the small screen should stay on the small screen, even if the animation is beautiful.
Oh yeah, you brought back the memories, coco was so good I forgot that horrible short at the beginning, and now that I remember I was supper bored during it, sad thing, there wasn't internet signal inside the theater, so phone wasn't a distraction 😅
Oh my god, don’t remind me 😂 The first time watching, I was confused, but just sat through anyway Watching a 2nd time, I just wanted to watch Coco immediately
It's so insane that Tamatoa has become more associated with this channel than with the actual movie. I literally heard someone in the mid-credits scene refer to him as the "Schafrillas crab".
Moana 2: a TV show hastily stitched together into a movie. Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett: movies hastily chopped up and padded out into TV shows.

I would’ve loved a Moana series on Disney + instead of a cramped sequel. Maybe 1-2 songs per episode with slightly worse animation, ideally not rushed. But yeah, as I just implied I’ll see it on Disney + when it gets there. Seems fun and worth watching but I can live with waiting a bit!
James: “if this movie does well, Disney might normalize terrible crunch times.” Moana 2: earns 13.8M in previews, making it the second highest total previews for an animated movie, and could potentially become the best performing in post pandemic era box office. Me: “welp.”
The thing is that Toy Story 2 was meant to be a direct-to-video movie but Disney was so impressed at the work in progress that they ordered it to be released as a theatrical feature and was greatly expanded on. So you can make a great direct-to-video sequel, so go that it can be released in theaters
@@achaudhari101 I think it's a pick your poison kind of deal: the weaker sequels are pointless and goofy, the weaker remakes are pointless and boring. There's exceptions to both, of course, but that's the general vibe I get personally.
@achaudhari101 Oh I agree. I'm talking about more "forgets the tone of the original" goofy rather than fun goofy. In reference to my first comment, I'd personally pick the crazier movies over ones that are just the original but dull, but that's just me.
Honestly, Moana didn’t need a sequel. It was a perfectly amazing story about a girl going against her dad’s word and accomplishing her dreams and saving the world. But it didn’t need a sequel
Between this and Mufasa, Disney needs a big wake-up call. The only hope here is that Wicked still has an insane momentum, and everyone just forgets this is coming out.
Disney keeps trying to find a way to NOT make high quality original animated movies even though that is the only business model that has ever worked for them, and has saved the company multiple times.
Schaffrillas. Where was the yearly thanksgiving video with the turkeys that go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu. That’s right. They go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys *off the menu*
If they make it more culturally rich, I might actually enjoy it a lot. Seeing real Polynesians on screen is actually pretty rare, as opposed to cartoons.
The original Moana's story was wrapped up so tight by the end it was basically a gordion knot, now Disney is fruitlessly trying to hack and pry it back open with a stick for spinoffs. Such a creatively bankrupt company these days, it feels as if the upper directors of that company are committing white collar crime via wanton malicious incompetence.
I mean making more movies isn't hard, moana using myths to flesh out it's story means you could very easily keep expanding it's world, have moana face different conflicts within her character, give more history for maui. They had just enough "where does moana go from here" to make something, instead they made three vague episodes that they super glue together, and added bland side characters when this should have been a maui and moana story.
I enjoyed it, and many of the adults in the theater clapped. The kids really were quiet through the entire showing, so its capable of keeping kids silent = Success
0:20 Would not be surprised if it was more because the show was not affected by the writers strike and they saw it as a way to get something out fast since the show was in production since 2019 in Vancouver
We’re going back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu. That’s right. We’re going back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu.
The good news is you don’t have to waste your money on “Moana 2” there is another Disney musical movie already out to get that classic Disney fix….It’s called “Wicked.”
I love how Tamatoa got his own mid credits scene like he’s a marvel character returning after a Hiatus. Tamatoa is officially the Loki of the Moana cinematic universe
See at this point, after the first movie came out I mean, that it’s less “oh cool they put tamatoa in the credits” and more “HOLY SHIT IS THAT FUCKING SCHAFF??”
I remember the sequel to Atlantis. That is the most obvious example of what were supposed to be the first 3 episodes of a tv series getting turned into a movie instead that Disney ever did. Like, you can even tell exactly where every episode would have started and ended.
“If I had a nickel for every 5/10 seafaring adventure with a dynamic duo released in November 2024 made by new devs who don’t really understand what made the original great, I’d have two nickels. which Isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.”

But atleast it’s said he’s making the songs in the Mufasa Lion king spinoff movie
Even then, Get lost was definitely the best song in the movie, the others were very… Okay

Yea what I was thinking as well
I loved the part where Moana used the dehydration gun on the doom syndicate. Only for Tamatoa to somehow return. Truly peak writing.
Moana:- Tefiti
Moana 2:- Ancestors
Moana 3:- Simea
Moana 4:- Moana grows old
Moana 5:- *A new era of wayfinding* - Simea and her daughter

Ok so I open this review for the first time, i see lukaslukas saying this is the most important shafrillas video, and also this comment, i have no idea what to think
I should share this snippet I saw from ‘Moana 2’:
Moana & Maui are being chased by 4 of the Coconut pirates from the first movie because of this dehydration gun they stole from them.
Maui: How do I stop these 4 villains at once?!?
Tamatoa, now bigger than the main island for some reason, comes crashing out of the Ocean to scream…
Tamatoa: SHOOT THEM WITH THE DEHYDRATION GUN!!!
@@IsaacV24 I want this to happen in Moana 3 except with a dehydration arrow
"SHOOT THEM WITH THE DEHYDRATION ARROW!!!"
And then Moana accidentally shoots the ocean, instantly destroying all water and turning Earth into an inhospitable rock. End series.
And the post-credits scene had Tomatoa having a breakdown over something called "Surfs Up 2", peak

Thank you for your sacrifice. My brother and I have been debating between seeing Moana 2 (as an ironic watch) or Wicked, and these reviews have been vital in convincing my brother to see Wicked with me.
Wicked is soooooooooo good
I wanna watch Wicked soon
100% choose wicked, I watched it on Sunday, it was great
I've heard nothing but good things from people who've seen it.
The post credits scene was cool! Nice to see you again!
Getting tired of the trend of the “crazy gaggle of friends” in recent Disney movies where they have little to no chemistry, but the movie needs to convince you that they do. They end up being forgettable in the end.
Indeed. Makes me wonder why they bother when they seem just as uninterested in doing anything with them. I'm sure it's some marketing thing....
It might have worked for a TV show that has more room for mini arcs and stuff. But for a movie… no.
i can see you, Lightyear
*cough* Wish *cough*
@@ai_izi Might have honestly started with Big Hero 6.

Reminds me of how during a Halloween event, there was a guy dressed as Tamatoa... But I literally forgot Tamatoa's name and said "Love your Schaffrillas costume!"
Then I realized what I said and he corrected me in Tamatoa's name (but he does watch your videos).

Absolutely on the marketing thing. I knew the movie was coming out but had no idea it come out this week until last week!
THANK YOU for talking about animation labor rights and how much outsourcing is hurting employees on both sides!!!!
3:14 The word is gamut. Not gambit.
OHHHH I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THAT SHORT LMAOOO
That short was put in there so everyone would forget about the lasseter scandal lol
Thanks God they didn't put that when I watch it
Oh my god, don’t remind me 😂
The first time watching, I was confused, but just sat through anyway

James: “if this movie does well, Disney might normalize terrible crunch times.”
Moana 2: earns 13.8M in previews, making it the second highest total previews for an animated movie, and could potentially become the best performing in post pandemic era box office.
Me: “welp.”
You’d have to be crazy to think this film wouldn’t do well.
So this is basically on the same level as a typical Disney straight to DVD sequel.
So glad the studio is returning to form.
You would rather have those than the live action films correct?
The thing is that Toy Story 2 was meant to be a direct-to-video movie but Disney was so impressed at the work in progress that they ordered it to be released as a theatrical feature and was greatly expanded on. So you can make a great direct-to-video sequel, so go that it can be released in theaters
@@achaudhari101 I think it's a pick your poison kind of deal: the weaker sequels are pointless and goofy, the weaker remakes are pointless and boring. There's exceptions to both, of course, but that's the general vibe I get personally.

If they make it more culturally rich, I might actually enjoy it a lot. Seeing real Polynesians on screen is actually pretty rare, as opposed to cartoons.
@@whiro8945It’s also pretty rare to see Polynesian characters and voice actors in animated media though.

Tamatoa is literally the most important thing Moana 2 did to humanity, it should be detached from the movie and put in museums
