With Steam Remote Play Together, local multiplayer gaming is now extended to iOS and Android devices. Remote Play Together enables cross-platform play among friends across Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android.
Up to four players, or even more in ideal conditions, can instantly join in the fun. Only the host needs to own and install the game, while additional players connect through Steam Remote Play streaming technology using their PC or the Steam Chat and Steam Link mobile apps.

I think you and many people are misundstanding what this is. This working multiplayer for games that don't support online multiplayer. IE, all those whacky Japanese games like the Tales of Besaria, that are multiplayer just not online. You can play those with friends because of this.

Local-online multiplayer, new Steam design, HL Alyx, Steam Cloud gaming are awesome news.
But don't forget your top franchises like TF2, L4D and, of course, Ricochet.
We got robbed of ricochet 2, day of defeat 2,hl3,portal 3, tf3, pc port of half life decay, deathmatch classic 2, the beta of both hl1 and hl2
I think this type of feature is what most gaming companies decide to ignore on purpose. They know that people can earn more money just by forcing everyone to buy the game if they want to play it with their friends. Valve is a hero for this. If we can play local, we should be allowed to do it online so we can continue even if we're in another country.
It's always been such a pain to play certain games with friends, even ones that were stream-friendly like the Jackbox Party Packs. Thanks Valve!

I came back to this video just to hear the high quality portal radio loop.
Using the Demoman as one of the player icons in this video is the most love Valve has given Team Fortress 2 in years.

I hate having it sledgehammered into my brain that there will never be another Portal game.
I don’t know if that’s true - The Portal 2 writers have been back at Valve for over a year now and are prolly done or mostly done with Half Life: Alyx. Portal and L4D have been in their hearts and minds recently if you see some of the new stuff that’s come out since the new Half Life announcement. Source 2 is finally complete and they stated that they are making games once again.
Doesn’t guarantee a Portal 3 but after 8ish years it’s a possibility again (cautious optimism - maybe we’ll get “Portal: Chell” because they obviously don’t want to use that 3 in a game title)
Been testing this with a friend and it's actually amazing. No lag or stutter what so ever when playing Crimsonland.
First of all:I love this Portal-esque animation.
Second of all:I like how VALVe references Portal and Tf2 and not Half-life or Counter-Strike.

Despite being currently low-quality at game developing and seemingly abandoning such market, congratulations, that is an actually interesting and useful feature to Steam.
I thought of something like this (streaming a local game to someone else and somehow also send the control-signals) years ago, but then I was never a programmer.
So I think this is awesome. Especially considering that even games of which you would think they would have online multiplayer/coop don't have online multiplayer. Such as the last two (modern) Rayman-games, for which they made multiple characters for local multiplayer, but no online support. For context; These games were from 2011 and 2013... Just whát?!... I'll just assume Ubisoft didn't want to invest in servers for them, but at least now it would would be possible to play games like that online. Well, I suppose they would have to be on Steam, but I happened to notice that at least one of these two is coming to Steam, so I bet that would support "Play Together" and it's probably for that very reason. - And I love that not everyone needs to own it. D,= Which is also often a hassle to be sure of.
I like that the most important thing about this video is a high quality version of a 12 year old radio jingle

Ikr, but my friend has been having problems with Parsec, so this is a lot smoother for them. They tried this last night with me, and it's a lot nicer (for us at least)
@Nick P. ick I guess different results for different people because it couldn't be the more reverse for me. Steam's remote play has been bootycheeks but parsec is smooth af. Maybe there is a setting or something I'm overlooking.
setting up play together is way way easier than setting up parsec. So valve statement about party game has never been easier is true.
@@edo1834 Speak for yourself, I guess? Once I had Parsec set up it's been a one-button solution since. Steam's is smoother cause it's.. well, in Steam. But with Parsec I can play anything, not just "supported" Steam games. Including passing the controller in games that *aren't* the target of these solutions, like singleplayer games.

When I saw this, I didn't care much. But now that we are under quarantine and friends can't get together. We were practically obligated to try new ways to play. And this my boys is one of the best things we have ever tried.
I have to admit, this is one of the most brilliant ideas that I wish was done sooner.
You should allow this to work with non-Steam games so you can add console emulators like Dolphin and use RPT with them.
With non-steam games, I'd recommend "Parsec". It's been a bit buggy and janky for me, but it works.

The whole point is playing together in person. Having that person with you, talking to them, etc. Couch co-op has a certain experience that can’t be mimicked by online play. It just can’t. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s an okay idea and will be fun but not for it’s intended purpose of mimicking couch co-op.
I've never wanted the Quest 3 to support this more badly than i do now.
