I just stumbled upon this. Good info. I myself a "roll yer own" guy. I was looking at getting this caliber upper. Ya got me convinced! 223 necks are very fragile for reloading. This is a great alternative cartridge! Plus I already have 357 mag.
Hey, thanks for watching. These particular projectiles didn't end up working but there are several combinations that feed and function in my AR very nicely 👍 Casting opens up many options, too.
350 Legend is a persnickety cartridge. We had dreams of grandeur when it was first introduced, but those have been wiped out. PLEASE, Doc, be very careful with whatever you decide on. Maybe I can jump in and help. My AR 350 is Aero Precision receivers and hand guard with a Shaw Precision Accuracy Barrel. I’m hunting with that and the 270 Winchester.
Definitely going to tread lightly with the duplex loads, although it shouldn't be much different than a single projectile of the same weight. Your set up is much nicer than mine. Good luck this season brother 🇺🇸👍👊
The 350Legend for me is not a plinking round, but a hunting round, I tried PC bullets in the 444, never got any kind of repeatable accuracy, with know accurate Cast bullets. Also the same with the 30-30. I love my “M” dies, they give you the best in a concentric seating taper, it really helped with Cast bullets with gas checks in straight seating. The 124FMJ do interest me, will see how they cycle and function and how accurate they are!
I've actually dabbled with the same concept using RMR round nosed 147 grain bullets and lil'gun. They were reasonably accurate out of my 350L ruger american ranch, sporting a 2-3 MOA group at 100y (wasn't really serious of putting this on paper, easily headshots a steel sillouette) and even pushed out to man sized target hits at 200y. Not bad for a 9mm bullet zipping at 2000+ fps! They did not feed great, needing a certain finesse along the bolt to get it to feed properly. Just for kicks, I ran some on a buddies AR (BCA upper) and it actually cycled. I am now involved in the wonderful world of subsonic load development. Since Im running them in a bolt action, I don't have to worry about it cycling. Loaded up some 165 grain Xtreme plated bullets (very long, 350L like projectile) with titegroup and they made a satisfying poof. Now the bigger question is how well will it even stabilize in a 1:16 16" barrel. Hopefully enough to lob it down to minute of man sized steel at 100y.
That's pretty cool. These were a total failure and never fed properly in my AR, but maybe the 147 might with a little more meat to hold onto or seated out further? Would much rather have a bolt gun in 350L. Thanks 🇺🇲👍
I was thinking of doing the same thing with the 9mm 147gr but after I talked to my gunsmith he said that a pistol bullet wasn’t made to be shot out of a rifle barrel at those speeds. Makes sense to me. I’ll be using it more for hunting then a plinking rifle. If you want to plink go back to the 22lr or 357 mag lever action. Just my opinion
You're not wrong, but every different jacketed bullet is made differently and some jackets are thicker than others. I'm hoping I randomly have a thicker one. Anyways, just testing a few loads to see what happens. I'm not pushing them as hard as the cartridge allows. Just seeing if it can function and what sort of stability it has. Esaub Outdoors just posted a video trying 124gr FMJs with 2400 and they seemed to be grouping. I still have to take mine to the range. Thanks and happy holidays!
Hey DR…if you’re looking for various 9MM bullets…head on over to American Reloading…they are showing quite a few bulk pulled bullet batches with a 30% discount when using the discount ‘Winter’…I watched CW Longshot’s video that popped up on my feed and as a result of his American Reloading 7MM bullet mix purchase, I headed over for a look-see and found some pulled .223 bullets I couldn’t pass up 😊😊😊
I've already got an order in for some of the 160gr Federal Fusion for 350L. Also, if you need casting lead, they have a 500ct 250gr .452 cast bullet that comes out to $1.56/lb shipped if you want to melt it down and start over with an alloy made for bullets.
@@DummyRound I’m doing pretty good on lead as of now…before I did the retirement thing from the railroad I smuggled (with permission from my General Foreman…just had to sorta get in line) five gallon buckets of locomotive battery terminal lead we were being required to replace with 100% copper terminals to meet EPA requirements…it’s almost Linotype hard and makes a good mix with my range scrap “quarters” from our Cowboy Action steel targets each month…I do miss hiding my battery terminals from my coworkers…I’m in regular contact with other bullet caster railroad retiree bros (and one sister) here in Tennessee and North Georgia and we tend to trade what we have (latest was about 300 .45 Colt brass for a Folgers Coffee can full of range scrap lead…don’t know who came out on top of the transaction…but we keep our group in stock with whatever we need 😸😸😸…right now I’m doing powder coating “classes” (thanks to UA-cam creators I can share beaucoup of useful info 😎😎😎 and I’ve been able to supply a pound or two of Eastwood “Light Ford Blue” to my “students” from my supply…we all have a good old “boomer” time…take care and stay safe my friend 🙏🙏🙏
I saw a trick for eliminating that crease in the cast bullets when seating them. Take the stem that you use for sizing the cast ones and remove it from the shell holder. Remove the seating stem from your seating die and replace it with the push thru stem you use to size it. The flat on the stem will push on the flat of the bullet, no damage to the top of your cast bullet :-)) PS: Noth much on the duplex loads, they make me a little nervous !
Yep I've been doing that with the stem from the sizing dies. I was just trying out my new Lyman die set and the stem they included. We'll have to work on smoothing that out a bit as well. I appreciate the comment brother 👊👍🇺🇸
You can polish the seating stem for the bullet you'll use easily . Put some metal polish or lapping compound on the bullet nose and spin it in the seating stem . It will form the seating stem to the bullet profile . It doesn't take much , you can do it by hand or place the bullet in a drill and spin it . Walmart sells an All Metal Polish in the automotive section that works good .
Try Harbor Freight's 96778 Green polishing compound. I used it on triggers, punches, hammer faces, and die sets. Works good with a Dremel and felt pad and it's cheap.
I've never had the desire (or cojones!) to experiment with duplex loads! But if you ever decide to try them, I'm interested... as long as you’re being safe 🥵 I won't comment about the seating stem, since James already did. Possibly get a couple different types, since your lineup showed different profiles. Good luck at the range with these. 👍🇺🇸
The duplex loads are a bit intimidating, but shouldn't be any different than a single projectile of the same weight, at least in my mind. Hoping to get out this weekend and see what happens 👊👍🇺🇸
So ... I bought a large amount of the Browning 124grain 2500fps ammo and was running it in a Henry single shot and it felt dangerous. There was flattened primers and even holes punched in my primers. I couldn't believe it, especially coming from Browning. I got rid of the rifle and always wished i hadnt. 350 legend is the perfect cartridge
Just for nothin', how about trying some Unique for the plinking loads. First, Use with caution and work up any load here safely. I have used that powder with cast bullets in everything from 223 to 300BO and even 6.5 Creedmoor and 460 S&W in a T/C Encore. Personally I would start with Lee 158gr cast bullet resized to .356" and 12.0gr of Unique and work up (a start load for 357 Maximum). 2400 would also make a great plinking load, with the same bullet it has a slower burn rate so it might be easier to cycle the action, I would start at 16gr and use standard primers, magnums not needed.
Unique is one of my favorites, but I've retired from the 350L until I get a bolt action. I have a partial can of 2400 sitting around, another great cast bullet powder. Thanks for the recommendation🇺🇲👍
I have a lever action Flightlite AR and I built it in 350L. Nice part is you can use any load/bullet combination that will push that pill out the end of the barrel. I'm currently shooting a Lee 358-200-FP bullet powder coated and sized to .356" with 8.0gr of 2400 in my lever gun for a plinker. Nice part about that bullet is you can just shoot it plain for lower loads or gas check it to push it harder.
This is my only Lee die set I've ever had any issues with. I also do prefer the FCD over just about any other crimp, unless it's on a case head spacing off the mouth.
@@chuckfinley3152 yeah I think he just opened it up to use 358, but now they're(Engle Eye and Full Lead Taco) working on the 358 Taco-tini, which uses 308 brass expanded out to use the 358 projectiles. Similar to the 358 Yeti, but a few changes...I think?
Nice video on reloading plinking rounds! The 350 Legend really turning into a useful cartridge. I sort of did the same with my 450 Bushmaster. The .451", 230gr pistol bullets just were not that accurate. Good for 25, maybe 50yards.
I've heard jacketed pistol projectiles have thinner/softer jackets than rifle rated projectiles, and each brand is different. Perhaps that is leading to poor accuracy? Only way to know is to test it. I'm hoping these are good past 50yards, but I have other cast options I'm going to be trying sometime soon as well. Thanks for watching John!👍👊🇺🇸
I told you I'd get started on it 😉 now I just have to get to the range! I've been casting about 2 years now, still very inexperienced, but I'm learning a lot. Thanks brother 👊👍🇺🇸
@@DummyRound yes I did! Super stoked! Looks like a great set of dies, I also managed to find 100 pieces of new starline brass, so I don't have to waste up all my hunting bullets. My chronograph just came in the mail this week also. If I can get my computer repaired I can edit up the videos I started filming. I am 23 years old pretty new to all this reloading and such. Always appreciate the information! Also what kind of brass catcher do you use with your side charger? Looking into getting a catcher so I don't have to chase my brass so much, I plan for this to be a regular plinking cartridge for me since it will run well in my supressor and I tend to love plinking with the odd ball calibers (.25 ACP is my favorite plinker)
@@SuperCinemaCraft that's awesome, just make sure to clean all the factory oils off the dies before you start using them. I started with a set of Starline but wanted to try out the Winchester head stamps since I got them properly sized finally. The Starline is great stuff, just make sure to trim them to proper specs. I'd love to get a can some day, but that probably won't happen any time soon. My BCA upper is a standard rear charging set up, and I'm using the cheap $15ish Caldwell brass catcher. It just Velcros around your handguard and has a zipper on the bottom for easy collection. It gets a bit flimsy if you unload an entire standard capacity 30rd magazine, but when I'm doing load work up or testing, it does great for 5-10 at a time.
@@DummyRound good advice, for lube on these guys should I go with imperial sizing die wax or like a Hornady one shot spray? Also I don't think I have any of the posters for 350 legend on hand, I'd be interested to know what one ends up being your favorite so I can seek out the best, thanks again for all your help! Ethan
I was looking at doing an AR upper in 350 legend and I still may do it but for now I chose to do another AR 10 upper this time in 308 because I believe sooner or latter civil war is coming to America so I want common cartridges so adding the 308 to the already have AR in 223 and 7.62x39 I have the common waring cartridges .
That's a fair reason to not get a new cartridge. I have all my NATO bases checked off so this is just for fun. Not needed for hunting or anything, just going to be a thumper on some steel targets. Thanks, wine importer 👍
@@DummyRound Just to add a bit of AR build interest I like to build AR's in odd cartridges so I have AR's in 17 Remington - 6mmx45 - AR 10 uppers in 6mm -284 win and 6.5 - 248 Norma and last AR 10 upper is done in 375 - 325 WSM so I have a AR 10 to match the 375 H&H mag . There is a UA-cam video of a AR 10 in 458 WSM . AR 10 WSM magnum bolts are bought from KAK industry's web site and the 2 inch longer & 3 inch longer rifle gas tubes come from KAK and white oak armament. I have the other common AR uppers in 223 - 224 Valkyrie - 7.62x39 . Everything for the AR 10 upper for 308 is on the way . For large bore AR 10 on KAK industry's sells the AR 10 barrels for 358 win now that would be a great Eastern deer gun where shooting is close and anchoring a deer in it's tacks is a must. It took me 3 years to find where the AR 10 WSM bolts are sold so anytime I can add info for AR builders I am always adding information where to find parts.
@@Lure-Benson Great info so thanks for sharing. I haven't done any AR10 builds yet, just going down the line on all of the AR15 cartridges that interest me so far. Eventually I'll do 458 SOCOM and 50 Beowulf builds to finish the big bores, then maybe do a 6.5 Grendel or 6 ARC for some 'long range' cartridges. That's a long ways off, so who knows.
They would work at lower velocities that wouldn't cycle an AR. No problem if you're using a bolt gun or just single shots. Plated bullets can separate mid flight if spun too fast. I know Berry's lists 1250fps max for their plated bullets, but xtreme might have a thicker or thinner plating. Maybe try 5-10 rounds if you have a bolt gun, but it might not be worth the effort in an AR if you want something that can run the action. Have a great weekend 👍👊🇺🇸
I have been working with a plinking/cycle testing round.(I have built about 25-30 AR .350 Legends). I bought about 300 Hornady 9mm 147gr FMJ bullets and have been noticing some walking of the bullet when cycle testing loaded and dummy rounds. I was loading with a COAL of 2.175 and taper crimping up to 5 thou and still getting movement. I am going to try a deeper seating depth and see if that helps. Any thoughts?
I would suggest trying a shorter seating depth. I haven't tried a 147 but they could probably go a bit shorter, maybe all the way down to where the ogive starts. Hard to tell how much room you have to play with without a picture. Be careful with too much crimp since it headspaces off the case mouth like a 9mm or similar cartridge. Hopefully that helps. Good luck 👍
Depending on what brass you use, some have thicker walls than others. You can also size them down to 356. Some have gone as far as having a smith open up the chamber to accept the wider variety of 357/358 bullets.
Definitely not the same loads, aka powders and charge. But, similar projectiles could probably used across those depending on how they are sized. 9mm and 350 Legend are .355"-.356" diameter, while 38/357 are .357"-.358" diameter. If using cast bullets you can just size them appropriately, but jacketed will be a bit more specific. Thanks and good luck!
I'll try to make some time this week. Unfortunately the nice range is closed through the end of the year and the indoor one doesn't do well with chronographs. I could still gather some initial function and accuracy data I suppose.
Lol Bear creek abortion like that one,I also have there 350 upper.did you do anything yourself or just had bear creek fix something that wasn’t working on your upper?👍🏿
Haha, they're great for the money! Everybody just talks bad about them for being so cheap without any actual experience. I just sent it back to them and they polished the feed ramp and chamber. No issues ever since!

That's a long ways off, so who knows.
what about copper plated 124gr 9mm xtreme bullets?
They would work at lower velocities that wouldn't cycle an AR. No problem if you're using a bolt gun or just single shots. Plated bullets can separate mid flight if spun too fast. I know Berry's lists 1250fps max for their plated bullets, but xtreme might have a thicker or thinner plating. Maybe try 5-10 rounds if you have a bolt gun, but it might not be worth the effort in an AR if you want something that can run the action. Have a great weekend 👍👊🇺🇸
@@DummyRound thank you 🙏 for your advice it makes sense, I have an AR so I’ll try out FMJ only.
Yessir!
Can I load 9 mm and a 115 g M350 legend What powder and what greens to start with
I haven't done this one yet, but go check out Hodgdon's website, they have data for 115gr and 118gr loads.
Good luck 👍
MashaAllah like such a wonderful and nice place
Thank you very much 👍
I have that exact lower and looking to buy a BCA upper in 350L.
I wanted an 18 or 10 inch but 16 was available at the time. It's working just fine. They're so cheap I'd love to collect them all over time 🤣
Interesting combos
👊👍🇺🇸
Can you use .357 bullets with this?
Depending on what brass you use, some have thicker walls than others. You can also size them down to 356. Some have gone as far as having a smith open up the chamber to accept the wider variety of 357/358 bullets.
I use Ramsot Enforcer for Horndaddy 170gr. Soft points and the 165gr. FTX.
AA-1680 for the 280+gr. bullets.
Awesome, I've never tried either of those lol... what kinda charge for the 280+?
@@DummyRound 11.5ish.
Thanks
Dam good video as for what I’m interested in seeing welp I’m interested in whatever you decide to work up brother 😉
Thank ya sir! I hope the rain holds off and I can actually get to the range this weekend. 👊👍🇺🇸
Very interesting video, what alloy mix do you use for these cast ?
These are just range scrap, probably 8-12ish BHN, quenched after PC. Thanks for watching 👍👊🇺🇸
Could you use the same loads for 9mm, 38/357 Mag and 350?
Definitely not the same loads, aka powders and charge. But, similar projectiles could probably used across those depending on how they are sized. 9mm and 350 Legend are .355"-.356" diameter, while 38/357 are .357"-.358" diameter. If using cast bullets you can just size them appropriately, but jacketed will be a bit more specific. Thanks and good luck!
Home defense rounds?
Not these!
Or, I'm an idiot and you are asking to see HD loads?
Thanks and have a great weekend👍
I'm in need of some dude bro mag dumping
It's been a while for myself as well.
Any update on the duplex loads ?
Unfortunately, not yet. Which version were you interested in? Lighter or heavier?
@@DummyRound either one, both sound intriguing 🤔
I'll try to make some time this week. Unfortunately the nice range is closed through the end of the year and the indoor one doesn't do well with chronographs. I could still gather some initial function and accuracy data I suppose.
Lol Bear creek abortion like that one,I also have there 350 upper.did you do anything yourself or just had bear creek fix something that wasn’t working on your upper?👍🏿
Haha, they're great for the money! Everybody just talks bad about them for being so cheap without any actual experience. I just sent it back to them and they polished the feed ramp and chamber. No issues ever since!
@@DummyRound awesome thanks,I was going to try it myself first and see but maybe sending it back maybe better.appreciate it thanks for the info.
No problem! Just hit up their customer service and they'll email you a shipping label to slap onto the box the upper came in. I got it back in less than 2 weeks if I recall. Good luck!
Bear creek abortion. Lmao. Yours too huh. My 308 same crap
It runs just fine now that I've gotten it back from them. Just got a 450bm upper and had no issues with it. I guess some QC issues at that price point are going to come up. Did they fix whatever issue you were having?
And also, the rounds in this video did not feed from the magazine very well during testing, but hit 2220fps and about 3-4 inches at 100yd.
@@DummyRound im pretty handy around these items. Got mine to work without their help or shipping back n forth. There qc does suck. Highpoint of uppers yee-haw
Hi Point of uppers is the best comparison I think I've ever heard 🤣
@@DummyRound if your upper was 308 id say take off barrel grind and polish ramps and lugs smooth mirror finish then on a 308 mag trim and file down feed lips on top of mag from factory length in 1/4 in increments until feeding gets better mine worked at a 1.0in. The original hexmag measurement was 1.5in
how about runnin the gun with these, that's the most important part & you went to lunch, vid is useless!
lol thanks
