Us horns are so freaking underrated eg in my concert band I had a WHOLE piece of just f’s OH and how can I forget 1 bloody A 😢like whyyyyyy WE DESERVE MORE!!!!!
I agree. 100% we are the third most underrated instruments. Here’s a top three list of the most underrated brass instruments in my opinion (from most underrated to least underrated) 1) EUPHONIUM 😍😫 2) Baritone 3) French horn 😛
Good job. I will be playing third horn part in a concert in a couple of weeks. That will be my first concert playing horn since high school back in the 1960s.
@@Stephie6645 damn dude in my orchestra (and the whole school actually) i’m the only student french horn but i’ve got a teacher who plays with me. keep it up 👍
When I was in high school I played alto sax. One small problem-so did about 6 other kids. My teacher put me on this part because we have no horns and he knew I could transpose. The next year I was sax section leader and played alto 1, then I took up clarinet and have played clarinet 1 on sleigh ride every year since
Do any horn players have advice on dealing with the fatigue of sleigh ride? I’ve been playing for years but my face is still absolutely dead by the end of this one, I need the stamina for playing this plus the rest of the concert lol. You made it look easy and sound super clean!!
Keeping tight corners and playing low on the mouthpiece. Let air control notes not pinching them out with your lips. Changing notes should be as simple as a slight mouth shape change and more or less air speed. If you’re adding or decreasing pressure for each note then your probably building bad habits and would explain the fatigue. Playing with your air will help your tone too as the pure tone of the horn is made by letting the instrument manipulate the air not the players lips
Vary your embochure, get into rhytmic movement where you nearly lift off the mouthpiece from your lips between notes, so you never build up too much permanent pressure.
What an amazing performance. I just wish the kid playing the horn would get out way and quit playing so loud so I could enjoy the slap stick performance.
I would have to commend you on not paying attention to the conductor (even though you always should) the fact you never lost feel of the beat proves that you take band seriously enough to actually practice at home😂😂😂😂
That’s funny. While I do take band seriously, I don’t practice at home as much as I should. I do have a really really good sense of pulse but I also look at the director religiously, mostly intros and cutoffs, but when I’m going, I’m going!
hi,I have been playing frenchhorn for three years on and off,but I find myself not liking this instrument as I often go too sharp on concert Bb note and there seems to be no excitement for me in band,do you have any tips to get better in frenchhorn?
I would say to set your lips lower on the mouthpiece. Work on consistency hitting notes. Use air speed to change notes and lips shape. Don’t build the bad habit on pushing Harder on the mouthpiece in order to get higher.
this guy has such a pretty sound! but anyway I don't like this song simply because of the "ands" or the upbeats. I wish I could play something different 😭

It’s about 120 bpm

I absolutely love this trend, I’m really glad to have gotten recommended a French horn part! Nice job dude!!!!
