- Traditional prosthetics can cost thousands of dollars and need to be replaced as children grow. A group of volunteers is using open-source technology and 3-D printers to provide free prosthetic hands for children and adults who need them. In this short from filmmaker Charlie Nordstrom, learn about e-NABLE, the organization behind the idea. Hear from Kieran, a child whose life has been improved by the device, and see the whole process unfold at Autodesk, a creative workshop in San Francisco.

This is my friend's little brother who is also my neighbor. I've known this family for a long time and seeing this makes me very happy. 💙
Puts a beautiful shine on the phrase, "giving somebody a hand." It's amazing how much 3D printing has done and is capable of doing. From hobbies who print a million benchies to the medical industry doing stuff like this. It's incredible.
I love the look of them, neat colors and designs. Like they said, I agree and I think it's really neat how they purposefully don't make the prosthetics look like "real" hands/arms
Wow never imagined to see you here o.O

I have been a big fan for a long time
This is too cool. We need more projects like this that make a difference.
we net to figure out how to make artificial nerves that will tell your prosthetic what to do and make the hands slimmer and more durable
Yeah that’s true
This is the beginning of something great.
I'm crying right now that is so amazing and awesome
lots of love and lots of strength to all of the people making a change in the peoples lives who really need it.
so happy to see this and so much respect.
If we had a lot more kind people in the world, today's world would be such a great place.
Our grandson has no left hand from above the elbow. Our son has formed a charity in Poland to build these 3D printed hands for children. it’s called “Hands on”.
It’s partly funded by the Rotary club in Poland.
prosthetics, proof that if everyone gives their fellow man a HAND today, the world can be a much better place tomorrow...
A great clip! This clearly shows the benefit patients can derive from a relatively low cost device that can be created by small teams everywhere. Well done!
An hour of CAD?? 😮 Bruh.
On another note this is incredible. God be with these folks
just how thrilled parents have to be to watch their kids learn how to use them.
I'd mold those pieces and cast some more quality material in there and put a carbon fiber skin over and carve a square into it to put a smartwatch without straps in it. That would be so coool!!
This is just a fantastic initiative. Well done to the design team.
my faith in humanity is restored.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sadly it probably won't be restored long

So cool!! watching this video makes me feel happy for all the kids and people who don't have hands they can get the closest to a real hand!
This is a beautiful cause. Great to see people tackling the problem and finding real solutions for it.

Awesome stuff! People using technology to make the world a better place!
I believe this is a wonderful thing and it would bring great happiness to thousands of disabled.
*This* is wisdom finally catching up with technology. I know firsthand it's not fun to hide a not-so-normal hand.
Wow Im so glad this exists and i only hope for it to get better and better

this Kierans arm stump looks awesome
really good work. god bless all of team member. heads of...
Is there a page where i can see the mechanics and how it works ? That hand is amazing.
This is wonderful.
They said that it costs less than $100 to print. Factor in labor, electricity, buildings and other miscellaneous costs and it probably costs $175-$200. Even if they sold them for a profit at $300-$400, it's still $1000s cheaper than the alternative. They could use the profits to expand production and provide it to children worldwide, having more of these in the hands of kids (get it, in the 'hands' of kids). It's still great that they are doing it for free though.
Cool stuff is coming for the future, hope i live for 300 hundred years
Love this❤️
😭😭😭 awesome people

I felt bad at the start when he said he was bullied as I have the exact same problem as I too suffer from amniotic band syndrome and am missing my left hand however I'm treated with respect and people around me seem to love me for having one hand

i want to chop off my own hand and replace it with something cool like that

I wish i can volunteer. Have you thought about making this project available for global volunteers, that would be amazing for the kids as well. Things like Aiesec i wish they had stronger opportunities like this one

my friend invented a stick for blind people that ’visualizes’ the surroundings by using a proximity sensor and vibration. He is a blind person 100%, first tests were successful, following two weeks he will be testing it in the metro stations to check the performance of the device in other life situations. Could be of help to all visially impaired people. Another invention for non-profit.
