Agreed the news is designed to breed sensationalism for ratings. If you watch and buy in the world is ending every day but if you turn it off the world is actually a beautiful place and most people generally get along.
I stopped watching the news 15 years ago and it is one of the best things I have ever done! 🙌 so much peace of mind. And you will find that the things that actually affect you or the things you can help out with you will hear about in just your day to day.
1. Documenting every moment 2. Social media 3. Trying to do it all 4. Resisting season of life (family, work) 5. starting week without plan 6. cling to past versions
I just deleted insta and tiktok from my phone a week ago and I'm still in the phase that I'm uncomfortable with the time and space that gives. But I'm slowly getting used to it
Hang in there. I also did the same... It's been 6 months and going strong. I'll be getting a keypad flip phone soon. I'll only be using my smart phone on Sundays and when I leave the house for stuff like Google maps, cashless payments, etc.
I've actually just started taken more photos of my parents when we're together. I realized I don't have many of them and I want to have these when they're gone.
@catetanenbaum2418 Please do take you parents pictures as much as you can even if they might feel shyness do take those pics. I lost my mom when I was in grade six now am 31 years old mom of two boys. The more years goes by the more I feel like her face fades away from my memory 😭. The only thing That makes me remember her are they way she held herself to others the humanity she had, the kindness she had, The love she gave me and the naturing she gave me the life lessons basic cleaness she taught me. taking care of my self and being kind to others that’s how I remember her.
As a new mom struggling to find herself again, I love the way you phrased looking at it as “seasons” at the beginning I tried to do it all as well and as a perfectionist it was difficult to cope with the fact that it’s impossible to do it all despite what social media tells you. Thank you for this video!
Got to say as a man closing in on 50 now and on this journey too it’s really heartwarming to see someone your age waking up to this fact and trying to share this message to your generation.
minimalism means focus on the most important things in your life and optimize fulfillment in them. You can have what you choose, but you can not have everything. so pick wisely how you use your time.
The “wanting to please an older version of myself” thing is so real… I often get myself planning for things I do not have the same enthusiasm as before…
"Do not disturb" mode is fantastic for helping me stay focused on whatever I'm doing right now. It lets me choose WHEN I want to actually engage with my phone, rather than the other way around.
I deleted a lot of old photos and videos and realized I was seeking validation by posting a lot. I wasn't living in the moment and didn't enjoy events. Now I barely take any pictures or videos and try to be present and enjoy the moment.
I deleted my Instagram recently because it was super overwhelming and i kept comparing myself to others! I have already finished two books by now i read instead of scrolling for hours
I try to go on youtube maybe twice a week now instead of every day. I've been reading books for years. It definitely is more relaxing. But youtube does have some great math videos.
I am far from a minimalist, and probably never will be. But I've definitely started becoming more minimal. Wifey isn't, and that's ok. But quitting social media has been one of the best things in my life. It's still ongoing.
Over the last few years, I've edited a lot of things. No more old stuff and limited wardrobe, cut off social media in 2018 (except UA-cam, which is next)... began studying stoicism, and practice yoga twice per day. It really makes time slow down, which is what we all want 👌
"I love how you incorporate real-life examples to make the concepts easier to understand. Your content has had such a positive impact on my personal growth journey!"
I have more joy, peace, and enjoyment of the things I own by reducing said belongings. About a year ago I gathered up everything I owned and went through it all one item at a time, asking myself with each thing "is this beautiful *and* functional for my life right now?" I reduced so much unnecessary clutter and now I spend so much more time just enjoying life rather than cleaning our tidying my stuff.
Great points, started minimalism 3 years ago and my life is exponentially better. I too feel better when I reduce and if something is not a hell yes it’s a no. Meditation, yoga, and less distractions is immensely beneficial.
i could relate with the last point. i tend to live for the past version of myself, a version where i did something better than how i'm doing right now. i think i need to fix this. tysm for adding this important point!
Love the “accepting the season of life I’m in thought” - I’ve been having issues doing the same so just hearing you just word it that way was really useful - thank you! 🎉
The last was definitely the best! I too found myself living for past versions of myself and past seasons and not enjoying the season I am currently in, especially after having my first baby. Your advice was very helpful and made me realize where I was struggling. So glad UA-cam recommended your video and I am going to subscribe!
I do not own a "smart"-phone. So whenever I feel like taking pictures I would bring my camera. If I want to watch videos or if I want to write e-mails I would use my laptop. This really makes me fully enjoy every moment and it makes my life so much easier. I have no whatsapp, no facebook, no instagram either. People could call me at home or write me an e-mail. 🙂
I loved this video! Especially the part where you mention not clinging to past versions of yourself when you are in an uncomfortable transition or growth season. You just vocalized exactly how I have felt without me knowing the words to express that. Thank you
I love this. My family do not understand how I want to quit social media. They are so toxic and demands replies immediately and telling me instead to forget about each other. I just wanted to be productive and also keep some time to myself to protect my mental health.
Your journey of simplification is inspiring! 🌿 Embracing the essentials and letting go of the non-essentials not only declutters our lives but also amplifies our focus and personal growth.
I can`t stress this enough: TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF AFTER BIRTH! LET OTHERS TAKE CARE OF YOU! You need it and it won`t be forever. You don`t need to find yourself: you are who you always were, just now with a beautiful new addition! Living life a different way. Find the beautiful in it and DON`T PUT PRESSURE ON YOURSELF. LOVE TO ALL THE MAMAS!
Also, treasure each season you're in. The older you get, the faster time seems to go, esp kids. Spend the time to enjoy the moment you have now, and you will remember it and have it forever. :)
I am in my 30s, and I can't still let go of my social media apps hopefully soon. But I don't share everything online compare when I was younger. It's my first time watching your video. You just gained a new subscriber. Thank you 😊
Wow! When I clicked on this video I didn't think it would be THAT helpful. I'm now subscribed and will check out the others. Hope you're enjoying your journey into motherhood. I'm a parent of 2 girls myself. It's great AND challenging.
I’ve never had multiple social media apps but I deleted Instagram almost two years ago now and my life is so much better for it! There’s less pressure to document things, creating perfect content, and I’m so much more content with the life that I’m living and every experience that comes into MY path, and not focusing on what I don’t get to do/experience
"Quit living for past versions of yourself." Coping with change. I have never heard anyone say something more relatable then your bit here. I find myself constantly clinging to old hobbies in the hope it makes me feel better or because i have some idea its part of who i am based on a decision i made when i was 16? Instead of creating new habits and hobbies because that seems unfamiliar and scary. With this new valuable insight, do you have any tips to break the chain? I've come a long way, but find it hard to consistently avoid this coping mechanism. Thanks for sharing your insights and i hope you're having a wonderful day.
3 things that I've done to simplify my life 1. Deleting social media ( I deleted them because a lot of what I saw wasn't serving me anymore, and was making my brain rot) 2. Prioritising things that matter, not what others are doing (trends, etc). 3. minimalising my digital spaces !!! less clutter helps your mind.
This is so true...I do not have any instgrm or tiktok account ...I 'm 22 nd years old teenage girl..I just only need live this moment without any online haters or digital shits....Nice content ...Watching you from Sri Lanka..🇱🇰
Wow. 3 and 4 hit hard. Dealing with the same thing and when I wouldnt accomplish what I set out to do I would get super frustrated. Just recently started "accepting" my season and now I am much calmer and able to think clearly. My time to push for my goals will come but for now I must accept my roles now and focus on them. P.S. SUBBED!!!!
I quit family group chats and I quit having notifications for my email and most apps. I have the goal to get my email off my phone one day, but I have multiple email addresses and with each one needing a long password and 2 factor authentication, that stops me from removing the email app from my phone. It seems like it’ll make things harder and I am striving for making things simpler (like you 😊). At least now, my phone isn’t buzzing in the middle of a conversation distracting me and everyone involved.
I resonated with this video so much. Thank you for sharing! I have been trying to simple living and i must say it’s a journey because I’m use to doing so much but i noticed im less stress by doing less. You’ve gained a new follower.
I always try to document special moments. At least one photo. Because we never did it as a family. So when my father died. We we're left with only one family photo. It feels sad not to be able to document those moments we had. Yes its in our hearts and minds. But it would still be nice to see them and look back. My mother in law documented all the milestones of my husband and at first my husband hated it bug when my mother in law died he appreciated all her effort making all the photo album and he even said its ok if he won't get anything from his parents as long as he can keep all the photo albums his mom made. And I think its really special. ❤
"Clinging to the past" and "losing yourself" can feel the same way, and it's important to recognize when something that brings you joy should stick around.
For me the greatest problem with the modern digital life is overdocumenting/photographing everything with our smartphones. I became aware of this only recently. I am currently trying to reduce doing it but I find it even more difficult than stop using social media 😢
I've had the Social Media purge thought creep into my mind from time to time though that's how I connect with so many people across the chapters of my life so mulling it over/praying about it but the Resisting the Season One is In really resonated with me as I'm going to through a season of change and metamorphosis. It's not overnight but still astounds me how fast how much has changed. Truly leaning into and embracing it has given the season and the change/growth so much more meaning and purpose as opposed to be the passive almost absentee party in my own change and season. And finally, the constant more, more, more (more to-do's and goals and dreams, more areas to learn, more toxic and unnecessary BS) has been present thought a lot of my early adulthood and even teenage years, but now, operating with a sense of intention (or one might say planning) and committing to those full steam, also adds a layer of purpose and meaning to the things that I am doing instead of throwing it all against the wall and seeing what sticks. Actually devote time and energy to those things and if they don't work or do it for me, then they must go. Really appreciated this video and reminding me some things I need to keep along the path I'm on (also sorry it's really long xD )
Totally understand the living in the season you're in. Im currently living through the season of being a SAHM of 3 kids & changing my mindset was hard at 1st since you miss your pass self ,but living through this new season has been so beautiful ❤ its something I won't get back again.
It is so freeing when you realise that you can quit a hobby or doing tiktok even tho you are good at that. You can be even better at something else with the past experiences or just enjoy it a lot more which is the most important measurement :)
I deleted social media and then realised how much time do I actually have in a day but I'm very uncomfortable because I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO WHAT I SHOULD DO !!!
I love this video! Thank you for sharing your experience it makes me feel confident that I am on the right track for simplicity. I need to accept it I don’t have to be like everyone else recording every moment or constantly “doing doing doing “ I want this joy. thank you 💗
One specific helpful thing that I recently started to do is to list some things that I enjoy to do and others that I consider is important that I keep on my routine. And more important: I accept that I just need to keep doing these things daily basis without any expectation of finish them, I mean, without the need of get them done for real. I don't need to 'master' anything. I just accept that I have to constantly do these things to enrich my life.
I finished the book "the subtle art of not giving a f*ck" by mark just a month ago. And the massage of this video is the same as what the book is trying to teach you. but I can't really apply it in my life cuz I don't know how😭 thank you so much for being an example, I have now clarity
Live in the moment, enjoy it. don't feel the need to capture it for future validation. That's a big one. With a phone in front of your face capturing moments, it really does kind of ruin them.
I feel you on so many points.. I never started my weeks with a plan or to do list, but I got so much trouble quitting documenting everything all the time 🙈 the phone is just such a addiction and even when I know I am not fully enjoying the moment I still take pics all the time of my kids etc 🥴 definitely need to quit this. And also where I struggle is quitting past versions+hobbies I invested in. Need to get better at that and let it go! Have a nice day, a new subscriber🙋♀️:)
It totally is an addiction so not easy to break the habit! I think with the photo taking there just needs to be a balance. Sending you positive vibes 🥰
I can't quit social media just yet becuse of my work but, I use Lite apps on my phone instead of the main apps. Limited functionality helped me to limit my time scrolling and focus on important things. I also enable Focus Mode and Bedtime Mode (sometimes also DND), to help me to stop doom scrolling whenever I'm at work or before I go to bed.
a change in pace is sooo reallll!! i used to work 2 jobs in one day and straight after work id go home and clean the whole house, then do a whole 30min shower routine and scroll on tiktok until it was 2am and sleep. it was such a shit way of living
I love your simplistic background.. white and pure and wooden shelves. I can't wait for my "buying-a-own-house-era" and cannot wait to remodel it and decorate it ahh😊
I don't have a smart phone , I say no to things I do not want to do I say no to consumerism my home life and work life are separate and my focus is on 🏡 and family and I have learned over the years to appreciate to just do my own thing
I quit social media for 2 years; they were wonderful. Since that time, I have gone back on some platforms but use them minimally and with the freedom app to set time restrictions on when and how long I can use the apps.
Thank you Martin! I'm glad you think so. Self-development is indeed a fascinating and broad topic. Are there specific areas within self-development that you find most interesting or that you’re currently exploring?
I would LOVE to see a video of how you plan your week. I am also a new mum and have been struggling on how to go about planning my week (even the practical side of how to organize writing it down lol) 🫶🏽
Hi Natasha!! Congrats on becoming a mama! I completely understand where you’re at, it took me months to figure out a way that actually helped my days run smoother. Thank you for the video idea, I do plan to create one on exactly this so keep an eye out for it in the coming weeks 💗
I'm already good with apps. I've deleted most socials and notifications turned off for IG. I could get better with not taking food pics and live in the moment. Also I can relate trying to be productive all the time. 😅
Grateful for your support! You can do it - try to make it a challenge and see how long you can go without! Maybe you’ll find it to be so good that you won’t go back 🤭
I have quit all apps but the biggest hurdle has been getting rid of UA-cam. It is so easy to access it through the browser and all phones have it. I have tried screen time but it is easy to ignore it. Since I’m a working professional, I need a smart phone for some of the work applications.
Y'all... less group chats and notifications. Seriously. That constant income of meaningless messages on one hand + that empty feeling you get when people take too long to reply to your message or don't at all is draining. Don't be fooled by the fake closeness you feel from knowing the people in those groups in real life, in actuality it's social media all over again. Leave every group you can afford to and mute the ones you don't feel ready to abandon. Also turn off notifications for pretty much every other app. Take some time to unsubscribe from newsletters, go into your bank app and turn off unimportant notifications etc.
For me it was: 1. Career ambitions. 2. Friends 3. Family 4. Relationships 5. Hopes and dreams 6. Hope i must say, life is so simple on this side of the void.
Do your old time friends still consider you as the same person you were 5 years ago? Subconsciouly that will make you feel bad about yourself and sometimes even reproduce behaviours you thought you had left behind.
The two best things I've done for myself have been to stop watching the news and delete social media.
Right ,my dear friend
stop watching news is dumb tho…..

Totally understand the living in the season you're in. Im currently living through the season of being a SAHM of 3 kids & changing my mindset was hard at 1st since you miss your pass self ,but living through this new season has been so beautiful ❤ its something I won't get back again.
You’re so strong, I admire you for this. Being home with one feels like a lot on most days - can’t imagine having 3! You got this ❤️
This was an incredible video. I loved the whole view of everything in seasons. Took a really complex thought and simplified it beautifully.
Thanks for your encouragement Scott! Cheers!
It is so freeing when you realise that you can quit a hobby or doing tiktok even tho you are good at that. You can be even better at something else with the past experiences or just enjoy it a lot more which is the most important measurement :)
this video is exactly what I needed thanks
I deleted social media and then realised how much time do I actually have in a day but I'm very uncomfortable because I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO WHAT I SHOULD DO !!!
Read lekker books or build your own yt channel. That is a science each day or night lol 😂
I love this video! Thank you for sharing your experience it makes me feel confident that I am on the right track for simplicity. I need to accept it I don’t have to be like everyone else recording every moment or constantly “doing doing doing “ I want this joy. thank you 💗
Thank you for your kind words! Sending you lots of love 💓
What you said has completely changed my perspective while there has been some uncertainties in my life. Thanks for this enlightenment moment :)
Happy to hear this, all the best to you :)
I’ve been on a similar path this year. Thank you so much for putting what I’m trying to do in such a complete way. ❤️
I love your take on this - "accept that I have to constantly do these things to enrich my life" 👏🏽
I finished the book "the subtle art of not giving a f*ck" by mark just a month ago. And the massage of this video is the same as what the book is trying to teach you. but I can't really apply it in my life cuz I don't know how😭 thank you so much for being an example, I have now clarity
I read that book too! Glad this gave you some practical clarity ☺️
Love this video! Thank you Haley ❤
Thank you for watching - I’m glad you enjoyed it 💓
Live in the moment, enjoy it.
don't feel the need to capture it for future validation. That's a big one.
With a phone in front of your face capturing moments, it really does kind of ruin them.
Wow girl! Wise words. Thank you so much!❤
I feel you on so many points..
Wow, that sounds exhausting! I hope you’ve found some slowness since then 🙌🏽
Thanks for this video! I really loved the phrase, accept where I am right now. And doing less, having less and wanting less. Take care❤
Thanks for your kind words! 🥰
I love your simplistic background.. white and pure and wooden shelves. I can't wait for my "buying-a-own-house-era" and cannot wait to remodel it and decorate it ahh😊
Thank you! It’s a pretty fun era I have to say 🤗 excited for you to experience it some day!!
A whole lot of wisdom in this video. Thank you😀
I don't have a smart phone , I say no to things I do not want to do I say no to consumerism my home life and work life are separate and my focus is on 🏡 and family and I have learned over the years to appreciate to just do my own thing
No shopping for pleasure, no over buying, natural cleaning, checking email less often
Great ideas. One of these is actually included in tomorrow's video!
I quit social media for 2 years; they were wonderful. Since that time, I have gone back on some platforms but use them minimally and with the freedom app to set time restrictions on when and how long I can use the apps.
That’s so great! I’m going to take a look at that freedom app. I find the time limit feature on iPhone isn’t very useful.
Through your sharing i discover how i over burdened myself and hence facing unfulliment since few years... Thanku Halley for share 😊
I’m grateful that this helped you ❤ sending you love!
Good opener, self dev is an interesting topic.
Thank you Martin! I'm glad you think so. Self-development is indeed a fascinating and broad topic. Are there specific areas within self-development that you find most interesting or that you’re currently exploring?
Many lists are the same boring stuff. This list is actually good.
ive stopped mopping my floors so often. i dont have kids so i just wear inside shoes all the time so the bottom of my feet never touch my bed/ sofa.
This video is amazing. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was very good.
Just Be.... and breathe.
It’s amazing what mindful breathing can do 🙌🏽
What social media do you use now? I've deleted IG and Tiktok but kept my FB Messenger. UA-cam is the only social that I use now.
I also use FB messenger for the rare family group chats that get made 😂 and marketplace on desktop. Other than that it’s Pinterest and UA-cam!
Thank you for this video! 😊🙏🏼 love it 🙏🏼🥰
Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
Chuck out your TV set too 💪
I deleted my Instagram account, 3 months ago and I feel really good without it. It’s kind of freedom.
It is freedom! 🙌🏽
Back in the 1970's this how people actually got ahead we did all kinds of things on very little and life was good.
I use now Pinterest app and UA-cam , also Spotify!!
I'm already good with apps. I've deleted most socials and notifications turned off for IG. I could get better with not taking food pics and live in the moment. Also I can relate trying to be productive all the time. 😅
That’s awesome!
@@HaleyVillena No, you are awesome for dropping such great tips to us. 🙂
i just found your channel and im so happy , PS , i badly wanted to get rid of social media apps.
Hi Amar - thanks for sharing your experience. Do you use UA-cam for educational purposes, or is it purely entertainment?
Y'all... less group chats and notifications.
Great video. What app do you use to create your personal dashboard?
Thank you! I'm using Notion 😊
Inspirational video 👍👍
What program do you make your plan checklist on?
Hi there! I’m using Notion - I shared a little tour of my dashboard and a free link to the template here: ua-cam.com/video/wNh67M9gJYM/v-deo.html
For me it was:
1. Career ambitions.
2. Friends
3. Family
4. Relationships
5. Hopes and dreams
6. Hope
i must say, life is so simple on this side of the void.
Hi there, it sounds like you're going through something difficult. Sending you love as you navigate your journey.
Yes, me too , pursuing for less.
Amazing channel :) thank you for the inspiration.
Thank you for watching and supporting! 💗
💕💕 great video
Thank you!!
Do your old time friends still consider you as the same person you were 5 years ago? Subconsciouly that will make you feel bad about yourself and sometimes even reproduce behaviours you thought you had left behind.
Used to think I had to workout 6x a week but I do 2-4x a week and i’ve lost 17 kilograms (37 lbs) in the last 6 months. Also less food 🤣
Hi :) What app are you using for the planning of the week ?
Hi Miriam! I’m using Notion ☺️
Great wisdom from a young girl ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you 🫶🏽
I stop documenting too in my experience of life
Thanks and great to remind about the human side of mega corporations 💯😎
2:02 best decision imo
💯
Living like you have nothing to prove saves a lot of time, money and energy.
