Gigged with the original for almost 15 years. Played 6 & 12 string guitar, 4 different electric guitars, banjo, electric & acoustic mandolin & multiple keyboards thru it. Whether miced or direct, it's performance was impeccable & it took pedals with complete aplomb. Best amp I ever owned.
Wow, would you buy a JC 120 used from the 90s nowadays if you were starting out?? I’m considering this amp for a clean sound, and have one available used locally, in absolute mint shape, but old, like 1990!
Watched a ton of PMTVUK and this is the first time I've seen Dagan just get lost in his playing. Sounds incredible through my headphones but I can only imagine what it sounds like in the room.
Forget best "clean" Amp. This is one of THE BEST Amps ever devised, just Phenomenal and yes, even with its own Distortion it STILL can Roar in the mix. Some folks are just really Deaf is all.
Your playing is amazing!! This amp just makes it that much better. I've always been a solid state guy because all my friends seemed to have tube troubles constantly. I love my Katana,my peavey red stripe bandit and my early 2000 crates. I know what people say but I've never turned it on and it not work. Bandits will rock!
Wow interesting.. how would this JC 120 compare to a Katana?? I am in the market for a clean amp and have been eyeing the Katana, but I can’t get the Katana 100 for a decent price, only the 50 here.. I wonder how it compares?
I used to have a used Roland JC-77. It was certainly a beautiful chorus effect. Instant Metallica of course every single time. Thankfully I got the pots mostly cleaned by someone before selling.
It's THE clean amp! You forgot to mention (and play!) parts from Guns 'N' Roses and Metallica that featured this amp, namely the intros to Paradise City and Enter Sandman, and you gave a hint of Sultans of Swing but not the full melody...
I have 2. My grandfather gave me his when I was a kid and I was just starting out. And I picked up a 2nd a couple months ago for $500 on Facebook marketplace.
Playing clichés like that is the epitome of a war crime. People who play Metallica just because it’s a JC120, the Beatles because it’s a Rickenbacker or a Vox, AC/DC because it’s an SG, U2 because it’s Memory Man Delay. Be original.
So, I just looked up the current JC-120 prices. The normal one is $1599 here in Canada, and this anniversary model - which is the exact same except for a cherry wood finish on the cabinet - is $2799… Holy hell Roland who are you buying your cherry wood stain from…
Would anyone recommend using a JC-120 for a Nirvana cover gig? - To clarify: it's a one-off show with only cover acts; the organisation has a strict selection of gear for all bands to use, and the other guitarist has already hogged the twin reverb. So my choice is either a JC-120, a Hotrod Deluxe, an AC30 or a JTM45 on a 4x12 Marshall cab..
They heavy? I’m considering buying one used locally, but it’s a 1990 model and it’s in real great shape! Should I worry or be concerned buying an amp that old?
So, the 50th Anniversary JC120 is different from a JC120 produced last by the limited edition number and the cherry wood? Other than that, the 50th Anniversary Edition sounds like a 2022 model? Is it worth the extra or will it hold its price against a non anniversary JC120 of the same age?
@@xsamittThat means that they used 21st century componrnts. 😁 If the cost was not trying to source 50 year old components, why is there such a big gap in prices between a 'normal' JC120 and the anniversary model?
@@ServingMyJesus Worldwide, Only 350 are made with this Cherry cabinet and they're numbered. Roland can charge a premium for this legendary amp. Best get one before their all gone.
Wow interesting.. Great playing btw, sounds AMAZING clean! Hey, how would this JC 120 compare to a Katana mkii?? I am in the market for a clean amp and have been eyeing the Katana, but I can’t get the Katana 100 mkii for a decent price, only the 50 mkii here.. I wonder how it compares? I’m after clean 🙌
ok so evereything everyone is is saying about the sound is right they do sound great but what noone is saying is how heavy these things are they weigh about 60 lbs i used to have a setup with one of these a carvin 3212 tube amp and a fender dluxe reverb also tube through a stereo splitter and an a-b box w/ effects it was pretty kool still have all the amps and most of the pedal board sound guys hated me yea im that guy but there no excuse for bad tone 😀👍✌️❤️to all
What pedal could you use to get a Metallic distortion? They should make a Hetfeild pedal 😊 is there any one pedal to get that cool Metallica sound or do you have to have EMG pickups ect ect ???
Tone, and distorted tone, pretty much comes down to just a few things: EQ, compression, and saturation. And then a few extra things that might help you sound closer (but aren't related to tone) like a noise-gate, etc. So rejoice! You can get the Metallica tone with a lot of different distortion pedals! I like the ProCo Rat 2. And then humbuckers would make the process a lot easier, but they don't HAVE to be EMGs. Any difference between EMGs and other humbuckers can be remedied with EQ, compression, and however much saturation (distortion) you need.
As much as I like these amps, I prefer my old Peavey stereo chorus 2x12, direct competition for this amp. I prefer the stereo chorus on the Peavey for some reason lol
I'm absoutely gutted that I sold the 2 JC 120's that I had. And my 2 HH. What an utter eejit. Does anyone else regret selling gear? I'd give a kidney to get my Big Muff back

It's remarkable isn't it!
Made in Japan, like Toyota 4Runner.
Wow! So it should then also sound good on Electric Violin or??
My favorite clean Amp of all time 😊😊
Amazing isn't it!
one thing i love about him he doesn't need anyone helping him play he is his own man his own show
I think you finally pushed me over the edge on this baby.
Literally one chord though it in person and you'll be sold anyways. It's such an amazing thing!
yeaaah, my JC!!
bought the baby sister JC50 in 1980. Never let me down. Plenty loud enough for most needs and great sound.

New one?
I’m considering one used
@@meals24u Yep! Love it!
An icon, a legend.....brillant presentation. I use this amp for decades with my archtop the ibanez gb10 and pm200 for jazz music.
These sound gorgeous
Fantastic presentation! Love this amp more day by day…
Beautiful!
I played my first concert many moons ago with an original one all cranked up with a boss DS1 as a "booster" 😂😂😂 the sound was deafening 😂
Ha - nice to see Dagan playing clean for a change
😂😂👌

Great demo Dagan! The rendition of Purple Rain and She sells sanctuary made me want to add a JC120 to my guitarsenal 😍
I could listen to that demo all-day. Just brilliant Dagan.

Great!
There's only one chorus intro you need to play.. purple rain . 😉🙂
Dude, where's the distortion . . . ??? I've been waiting so long until the end of this video 😞😢
Such a great tone, and you totally rocked that PRS.
Why didn't they make a head?
they did, it wasn't made for very long I don't think but its called the jc160H

I’m considering an used one of FB as well, good price, but it’s an older unit from 1990 dated
@@meals24u the 2nd one I picked up is from 1990. The one my grandfather gave me is an 86. Definitely get one they’re great amps.

That distortion doesn't sound the worst at all.
9:35 Is that the song from Willy Wonka?
Yep.
Hello my friend, we meet again It's been awhile, where should we begin?
Question for Dagan - for a clean amp, would you choose the Jazz Chorus or Fender Tone Master (Twin / Super Reverb) ? Thanks
I’d like to know as well
Nice! Did he sneak in a little Luther Vandross?
14:35 is that Jesus of Suburia lick in there?
U need to put a good multy effect boards with distortion then u will c a hudge difference

ridiculous price imo
Play Purple Rain ? Hate Solid State Amps Shrill Turned Up !
Limp bizkit...style 😂😂😂.Creed
JC-120 .. only the real thing with that ugly distortion... the one that nobody ever touches on this wonderfull amp!!
It's actually Okay especially in a mix.
Please, tune that guitar 😢
Yeah it does sound a little out- to be fair, that could be a function of the chorus effect
Sorry, his guitar isn't in tune. It's not the chorus!
My thoughts exactly.. thought I was hearing it..
Great demo still none the less
Tory Slusher is the best guitarist on the planet
To have that amp and not play Metallica's One or Sanitarium should be a crime.
They should of put a friedman distortion with valve. Every other amp would go banked rupt
Jc-120 in the early days is not pedal friendly amp,I tried it doesn't sound good, idk the new versions
Could you please tell me what you mean by this amp "not sounding good" and not being "pedal friendly"? I'm just curious to know 🙂
Because if you have a good distortion pedal it will make sounding shrill and harsh
@@jestercabrieto6526 OK. Thanks! 👍
What’s early models??? A JC120 from the 1990s?
Had a jc77, Turbo Overdrive & or Super Overdrive along w other Boss pedals did work better than a Ds-1, but its not the amps fault.
