- Welcome to #UnorthoDX. In our second episode we tackle the controversial questions, "Did Vanilla Ice Really Pave The Way For Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg And Tupac Shakur?" "Did Vanilla Ice Really Fund Suge Knight & Deathrow Records?" We take a deep dive into the original story that eventually became the urban legend we all know and have heard for years. We also research what caused these actions to take place and if there is any truth behind the rumors. Did Vanilla Ice really get hung from a balcony by Suge Knight? Or did they just have a civilized conversation about publishing and percentages? Who really wrote the song "Ice Ice Baby?" Join us in tackling these questions and more on this next episode of #UnorthoDX.

Gotta show some love, I was actually hooked the whole time even after I’ve heard the Vanilla Ice x Suge story a million times. This was the first time I’ve heard it like this. That’s saying a lot too, because as far as my love for hip-hop goes, it started when my classmate brought Doggystyle in one day and played all day while we had a substitute Teacher that day. With my love for Chronic, Deep Cover and Doggystyle came tales of Vanilla Ice’s underground career as a Hollyhood trapeze artist, performing shows hanging upside down over all of the most expensive, lavish, and 5-star balconies all over LA.
Ahh. Bacc n tha dayz, tha good ol’ dayz. 😎
“ Queen took 50 percent, Suge took the other 60 percent, I owe money when they play that song!”
Is that a 'That's My Boy' reference??? 😁
Zurdo Grande yuuuppp it’s in the video
Sad truth
THAT'S MY BOY!!
Ice didn't write that track .he admitted to it
This is not the face I had pictured when I heard his voice 😂
Lol this was a total surprise... I seriously thought he was black.
This is kinda funny cuz Vanilla Ice had a part in Dre getting where he was, and Dre was the only one that looked past Eminem being white, cuz Em couldn't get signed because of the stigma of Vanilla Ice. Lol
Livia Kai it all went round robin in a way
Dr. Dre was already famous. Remember NWA. Dre left death row with nothing and started aftermath. So Ice had nothing to do with Em or Dre. Tupac was already famous too.
@@itskev8126 the point of the episode was Ice helped finance the very beginning
@@JustMe-mo6xk Vanilla Ice had nothing to with Dre meeting Suge they all ready new each other. Dre was a star suge just got lucky Dre chose him they were business partners he didn't sign Dre so Dre got none of that money. He team up with suge for his connection Suge was a personal body guard for Bobby Brown right after he got cut by the rams. So he knew some of the big wigs in the music world like the people at interscope how do you think he always new where ice was. Dre was probably 90% done with that album before they team up. And Dre found snoop thur a family member had nothing to do with The success of the Dre's Album. Dre was going to start his own label right before he team up with suge called shock records. So Chronic would of came out anyway. I guarantee suge blew that money before they even team up. Dre didn't need help promoting his album people was waiting for that shit.
@@itskev8126 dude, I didn't create the information, I just made a silly comment based on what I heard. It's not a big deal.
OK, where's the black dude who dubbed this video?
Eminem " i inspire the hopsins the logics the coles the seans the kendricks "
Vanilla ice "' hold my milk ....the pacs the snoops the dres "

MC Hammer in the background
Murs?
I think his name is Jacques something.
What about George Clinton? Without Funkadelic and Parliament no G- Funk.
@@jay2chill134 I respect Cold and what he did for G-Funk but never forget the roots. One nation under a groove.
I think you're missing the point of the video it's not where they got their inspiration from it's where they got there funds from and The Story Goes Vanilla Ice bitch ass signed over his publishing rights to death row so that's how death row got funded along with Harry O
George is the brains he arranged the songs
Always Dre haters out there.. There's zero proof Dre stole ideas from Above the Law or made his whole Chronic album based on what he heard through them. Some of you don't realize Dre was more involved in the production behind Above The Laws Livin Like Hustlers album than you know. And that's their best album in my opinion. EFIL4ZAGGIN was way ahead of the game at the time. That production for 1991 was next level shit. And there's some G-Funk on The D.O.C.'s No One Can Do It Better and Eazy Duz It both produced by Dr. Dre so fuck outta here Cold187um did not invent G-Funk nor did he inspire Dre like that
Without Roger Troutman*

God damn it thought he looked familiar 👀
"I fkn owe money everytime that song gets played" 😂🤣 I love Vanilla Ice
i didnt recognize you until that "aightt" keep doing yo thing :)
“Aight look, this just happened so...”
This is the first time I've heard the story about suge knight and vanilla ice. It's crazy to think that without the goofy hit ice ice baby we might not have had real hip hop classics like the chronic, doggy style and all eyez on me.
We still would of had hits ice cube was dropping hits eazy e was with bone thugs etc
@@seagramrip187 Ice Cube wasn't on Death Row records
There were a few corny rappers back then that were good business people who made most of their fortune outside of rap. Gerardo, Mark Wahlberg, Six Mix A Lot, etc.
SOOOO basically a dude named chocolate was responsible for a jacked song that later made him get no money dough his manager flipped that money from the rat to fund three of the most wanted rappers in the game, who later extended their success to the next generation that today are THE MOST WANTED RAPPERS, Damn this connection just gets better and better withing the generations, it's like, chocolate to vanilla, vanilla to suge than suge and eazy e to dr dre and snoop dogg, dr dre signs eminem, em signs 50 cent, the game, kendrick lamar etc like i said just getting better and better
Aiiiiight.., so this just happened so, just saw the video, great video, Sick title (unorthoDX) , its great to put a face to the voice

Why do people care if he’s white or black? He’s just all of trying to talk about hip hop and excluding him would go against what hip hop stood for with people like pac, bringing people together
That's right, tupac wanted hip hop to be universal, not just a black thing. Niggas have to stop with that stupid mentality

"we hangin out the window its bout to be a suge night"
Great timeline story I read about the issue of Ice Ice Baby
Well Dre became more successful while alive then all combined
That's Because SUGE applied Guerilla Tactics when it came 2 that 💰💰
RACIST
I think it'd be more accurate to say strongarm tactics.
ten4r guerilla tactics is a phrase used to describe tactics that are either unethical or illegal
"Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants, such as paramilitary personnel, armed civilians, or irregulars use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility, to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military."
Again, guerrilla tactics would best describe hit-and-run style tactics. Shaking someone down to extract a deal from them is best described as strongarm tactics.
Some fools talking symantics smh.. 🤦🏼♂️ I get what you're saying... It's accurate.
Harry O funded Death Row more than Vanilla Ice, plus he hasn't been consistent with his story
Suge still got 4 mil tho
I don’t know if I’m more shook that 3 classic albums were made because of ice ice baby or this man prolific is white
AEOM was Pac's 5th album. Thug Life Vol. 1 gets slept on but is dope top to bottom. But you can spin it as a joint album but to me its pretty much a Pac album lol
I didn't know he signed over the rights to that. Thats crazy. Shugge has to be a CIA plant.
Of course
Looks like the CIA don't care about their own, Suge is in prison for assault.

Vanilla Ice actually purchased the publishing rights to "Under Pressure".
Expect they didn't
No
Actually Harry-O funded death row

Wait you can actually say that if it wasn't for Suge pressing Vanilla ICE then it would not have happened in the first place.
He didn’t fund it at all, Suge Knight forced him to sign over a shit tonne of money 😂
I agree with Vanilla Ice contributing to the early stages of Death Row,but no one speaks of Harry O the one who original financed Death Row while he was behind bars. They talk about this on the Death Row documentary called: Welcome to Death Row.

Nah. even before Vanilla Ice contributed, Dre was already finishing up with the album Chronic which until he found out about Snoop Dogg and had him on the album. Vanilla was forced to sign the royalties after Dre left Deathrow. Tupac was getting profit of his album, Snoop later then left and was signed on Interscope, Dre's album became successful in terms of sales and popularity. he later then discovered Eminem, which he signed.

makes sense. if vanilla ice stole the song, he'd want to hide that to protect his career and forward momentum. Suge would want to do the same so that Ice's song would continue to make money. Instead of generating a he said/she said, they took the path of maximum financial gain.
I hope that dre and snoop appreciate all that vanilla ice did for them and give that man some sort of compensation🤨
Vanilla ice don't need any compensación. He Made his own money with years of sold out shows ,appearences , movie , etc , guy can rip a dirt bike too. But he doesnt need any money from others . He was Smart enough to market himself way before suge and his Goonies and thugs stepped on so many people . And look now where is suge ? KingKracker I like *Remember Me* more than *All Eyez On Me* too. Remember Me was Pac in his truest form. All Eyez On Me was more commercial and what he had to do for Death Row. Both albums are straight up classics and two of the best album of all times regardless tho 💯

Badass video
Wow I was expecting someone way different, but I guess this video has a deeper meaning. A white man had one of the biggest impact on an iconic group of Hip Hop artists... and some folks are pissed about it.
Saying that this story explains how Vanilla Ice funded Death Row just goes against what was said in the video, the whole point is that Vanilla did nothing but perform what others made and then got "robbed" out of it. It somewhat explains how Suge's behavior and the literal theft that happened directly lead to Death Row's founding can be subjectively seen as them stepping in to take back what was owned.
The title should be "how intimidation and street character truly built Death Row's foundation".
I still think Vanilla's influence was minimal, it's his face you see and his voice you hear but whatever the direction you take, as soon as you start digging you easily find that everything that's happening to him seems to be the result of someone else's actions.
You sound like had never seen Ice perform, for sure. To think that any regular rapper with the tracks and the Lyrics from others, could perform like he did, its a bit crazy.
They used a white guys money to make it happen. Quit playing.
Suge was scared, about that reporter. 😁
That guy feels like, the Don King of the hip hop world.
