Episode: Vanilla Ice Interview: Tupac, The 90's Generation & Selling 160 Million Records
About Vanilla Ice: Robert Matthew Van Winkle (born October 31, 1967), known professionally as Vanilla Ice, is an American rapper, actor, and television host. Born in South Dallas, and raised in Texas and South Florida, Ice released his debut album, Hooked, in 1989 on Ichiban Records, before signing a contract with SBK Records, a record label of the EMI Group which released a reformatted version of the album under the title To the Extreme. Ice's 1990 single "Ice Ice Baby" was the first hip hop single to top the Billboard charts.
You can’t help but to like the guy... he’s just a down to earth dude who lives what he does
Vanilla Ice is a personal role model of mine. I ride a motorcycle because of him and the Terminator. I ride a cruiser for Arnold and a Kawasaki Ninja for my boy Vanilla. If it wasn't for the Album "Hard to Swallow" I probably wouldn't have been able to get through some horrible times I had in life. Thankfully my life isn't like that much anymore, more of a "Mind Blowin" and "Hot Sex" or "To The Extreme" most of the time. I love you Vanilla, never change bro.
. .
I hear ya. He is a humble guy, talks about his lesson learned and still learning.
I can help it
He’s a talentless bitter chronic liar and narcissist
The 90s were definitely the last of the greatest decades!
💪🏻🇺🇸💙
For sure! Born in 81!
I was lucky enough to be a young teen in the 90’s the best ever decade
U can say that again
Eh the 00's were pretty dope still
PBD interviews everyone. Love this guy
"I'm not a white rapper by the way, I'm a rapper. You don't label music with colors, it's made for your ears, not your eyes."
Preach, Ice! 👏
I have so much respect for this dude. Everyone tried to bring him down but in the end he came out on top and he's living his best life.
Literally 1 of the greatest interviews in the history of You Tube
They should give him his money back
Word
Vanilla Ice is poetic. “Ice, Ice Baby” is poetry.
Yeah written by Mario “Chocolate” Johnson
Mad respect for Rob Vanwinkle. Extremely intelligent and humble & honest as it gets. Love his advice about how to NEVER take life too serious. LOVE his show The Vanilla Ice Project. Dude's passion for designing not flipping as I thought before watching this interview, is just amazing and will wow you.
💪🏻🇺🇸💙
This interview was amazing. I’m sorry to you guys who missed it. 😔
Best Vanilla Ice interview on YT. The interviewer it good too. He asked a question, let Vanilla talk and interjected at the right moments to keep the dialogue going. Can't help but like Vanilla and how mellow he is as a person.
"Never stop working." I cant believe Vanilla Ice just motivated me!
Very impressive Rob!! Keep up the great work
Rob, don't know if you'll ever even read this. But you survived some crazy stuff in the 90s and after yet, came out on top. We are of the same generation and when Ice Ice Baby came out, I was growing up in the northeast and every single one of my black, white and hispanic friends were blasting that song out of the woofers in their trunk like crazy. You were on fire and no one can deny or take that away from you! I'm glad to see where you've ended up and are happy in life with your family! In the end, that's all that really matters. God bless brother and keep the positive flowing! A friend from the 90s generation....
Nice comment my friend was 12 when he blew up and yes positive is possible live it! 90s last if the great decades 😢❤😊
Agreed.. not many people can do this
Fell in love when I watched Vanilla Ice Goes Amish!
I fucking love that dude.and that song is still as DOPE as it was back then.calling the radio stations all day trying to get through to request that song even though they played it all day
He’s a liar
I don’t think this guy gets enough credit for just still being here. I can’t imagine the entire country criticizing me and dealing with what he did and coming out on top with his own TV show. This is what makes him a legend IMO
Loved the trophies!! I remember presenting him with a trophy back in ‘95 or ‘96 for winning his first motocross race at the Palm Beach Motocross track!
He knocked this interview out of the park!!!!
One thing that He said that hit home; I had a boss once that was spending a huge amount in his home and interior in a time where money wasn’t going around as easily. He said “when you’re poor living check to check where you gonna be? Home right?” I said yes that is true. He said “then that better be a palace, your sanctuary so it better be a place where you can be comfortable, proud and live in!” That always made sense.
I always like how honest vanilla is .He has turned out to be a good role model for people..Excellent interview 👍
This guy has some serious talent and work ethic
Love how ice is real with everything!
Especially when he said, "I ain't a white rapper!" I don't see color!
Dude has a great story
Congratulations Vanilla Ice!!
On your success!!
He’s a liar
Such a good person, smart, innovative, everything!! I love that he found a new passion! He is so passionate about “home”, love how passionate he is .
The average person has a 1000 reincarnations
Vanilla ice so awesome wish he'd make more music and rap
this man is a living legend
Lying legend??? Only on this subject
The biggest selling hip-hop/rap albums worldwide is "please hammer don't hurt em" 1990. 22 million albums sold worldwide.
x 20 = vanilla ices sales to date
I was 13 in 91 and i remember roller skating with my hammer pants to this song
Me 2😜
Me 2😊
Ohhh hell yeah at Skate Dimensions busting my knees up
This is a great interview, respectful and humble you are.
The D.O.C. is from Dallas too I think
Definitely awesome!! Love the 80s and 90s. Rob is super cool guy!
@Vanilla Ice, Mad Respect for your amazing success & Blessed Life!
160 million sold & still selling 👑
Vanilla Ice could sure dance!
This was a great interview! Someone who is real! I have been a fan from day 1. Always followed your success from hitting hard times and getting right back on your feet.
💪🏻🇺🇸💙
After I pressed the like button, I noticed that the name of the channel is Vanilla Ice and it's Rob himself. Very nice.
Here in the Netherlands, the Vanilla Ice project is now on tv, and the positivity, the fun and play, the constructive energy. It's as sunny as the Florida weather.
This was a genuinely inspiring interview! I really admire what he's done with his life.
I remember it like it was yesterday 1991 everybody going through the projects I was in first grade everybody singing Ice Ice Baby
Amazing interview!
I'm soooooooo proud of this guy main. Stayed true, stayed on his grind, kept sharpening his mind, good interview fosho. I didn't even know i needed this interview buuuut I did....thanks 😊

This guy Vanilla Ice is awesome!
I am a fan of vanilla ice I like this interview
I rarely care for celebrities but I'm glad his doing good and living large 👍
I'm digging the green I love vanilla ice
Pistachio Ice 😅
Vanilla Ice is an AWESOME DUDE and he's REAL and that's rare, esp during pop culture and the beginning of hip hop, which I love. I remember my friends and I would ride on the car doors, leaning on the car top going down 59 in Houston, jamming to Ice Ice Baby! It was an exceptional time in history, in my opinion!
He's still gorgeous as he was back then, even more so now, plus more importantly, he's A TRUE BLUE MAN!
VERY TALENTED!
LOVE YOU VANILLA ICE‼️
This is the Dopest interview ever!!!!❤
I was in high school when he's album came out and experience The Ice Age movement! It was fkg awesome even to today! He reminds me of Gene Simmons from Kiss, still alive and so smart about the way they view life in general as realist. The people who truly understood the difference between what is fame, fictions and life itself! They live to tell the tail! Respect man!
It's crazy how big ice ice baby was
I grew up in the 90s 2000s never listened to the song but still herd it
Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery! Today is a gift, that's why it's called the present!!!!!
Amazing interview, for one hour you make me back in time when in 90-92 I was playing your record on every single night, almost. You guys mark the 90s !
Your King to me!
Been with you all the way bud!❤
Dont ever think your not....brings back good memories!!! So bad ass! Come back.....ice ice baby superbowl 2025
What a great interview....i have always bumped Vanilla Ice. Hell yeah...he did dat!
I was never a fan of Robs music, but definitely love what he has become.
Dude sounds chill, intelligent, and financially smart.
Smart investing, I gotta show mad respect to his positive outlook on day to day life living.
And how he says to live in the moment, not for yesterday or tmrw...
Positive vibes man
Not ever knowing his father and moving forward in life as he did, I envy his thought process....
His wisdom is impressive, definitely someone I'd hangout with...
Im impressed , keep doing you bro...😎💯
Great interview. Nice guy.
Genius This is great
Great interview. Under viewed
Yesterdays History Tomorrows History. Bloody love that line right there.
This was a great interview . My respect for Rob aka Vanilla Ice grew big time. His work ethic is Krazy "I love it"
I didn't know The Vanilla Ice Project tv show existed, I'm going to start watching it tonight! Looking forward to it.
Fantastic❤
For every great movement and success, there's always someone either trying to cash in on it or treat it down. Still one of my favorite tunes from the day.
This is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!
What a wise person all time best ICE!!!
Awesome interview Ice!
Been a fan of Vanilla Ice since the beginning. STILL a fan of Vanilla Ice to this day. That said? I loved Hard to Swallow. Despite people hating on that record, I love it! I bought it the day it was released back in October of 1998. When I found out my favorite producer (Ross Robinson) produced it, it made me love it even more! I honestly wish Ice would do more metal stuff. I'd love to hear it!
Hey, man, thanks for the great childhood.
It's still INSANE!!!! how the song blew up and BLEW THE DOORS OFF THE WORLD!!
The Bside was played by a DJ and.....
BAM!!!!
My fave song of the LP was and is HOOKED!!!
I remember I hadn't hear the LP since I had the tape in '90 (my brother did)
Once I saw Vanilla Ice Project....
I got stuck on watching that show and while having a but of Rum or Gin... I was "Lemme rock that!" N went on YT!
As soon as i heard those songs again! I was
GAWDDAMN!!!!!
His LP was FIRE!!!! it sucks that sooooo many people just ICE ICE....
But there are sooo many gems on there!
I've met maybe 2 people EVER!!!!
that when I sing RAAAAHHH REY RU... REEE RAY RAH!!!
And they can finish it
I bought the album Hard to Swallow the day it was released. Still have it in my car right now. If u haven't heard it go get it. Not the easiest album to get physical copy of though. But it's dark and heavy. GOOD ALBUM
Vanilla is in great shape!✌
Ice Baby and You Can’t Touch This, great 90’s music for the Ice Rink. Growing up going Ice Skating, they’d often play Ice Baby and was a favourite for many skaters. Even today still like to listen while on the ice, although not played as frequently like in the 90’s, I ask DJ to play it at even Discos… Epic!
DJ = member of staff in charge of the music, not an actual DJ… 😂
i hope to see you again in Czech Republic , the security doesnt alowed me to get subscibe from you on my KTM hat, but anyway the show was super great! Thanks! it was the year 2005 i think
Vanilla 4 ever big up !
Great Interview!!!!!
You are awesome! 😘 miss you and hope to see you soon!❤
Loved the 90s.... would go back in a heart beat.
Great interview. Love Ice - he's a pioneer whether he's too humble to admit or not.
100%
Still a awesome entertainer ! Thank you for a great show , I'm a huge fan . I hope to get to meet you you some day ! Blessings to you guys keep up the great work !
Now that Snoop is death row, he should give Rob his points/rights back for his music. This is such a great interview.
"We don't label music with color, it's made for your ears not your eyes" .. Holy shit, facts
I was watching your video of ice ice baby. My girl is Asian . She 36 and she knew every single step that you and your dancer did. I didn’t even know she ever heard of you. I remember you telling the story about suge I’m from southie I worked for a southie crew who had to pay tributes to Whitey Bulger . I be so angry you could fry a egg on my head. We knew he was blowing the FBI and we didn’t want him to have the FBI in our business. Whitey reminded me of suge . A the gulf war broke out so it was my way to escape it. But you had to deal with that. I’m sorry man you are a excellent talent and great job on the mansions. Stay safe.
Love you Ice! I feel this interview is old...
I love this interview. God bless you 🙏
90s the best decade
Ecuador 🖐👌
Cool as Ice
The most envied rap artist his time. The reason they wanted him out. But he is smart to have invested much and lived through.
Computers really ruined the good and real life we all had
I graduated HS in '91. It was different back then for sure. Music doesn't drop the same and young people of today miss out. With no internet, everywhere you went as a teenager this was playing in your car, everyone's car, the mall, the arcade, etc. This was before Nirvana and I believe that this song not only pushed hip-hop into dominance, but it was also the 1st death nail for hair metal too.
Class of 91.... Born in 73
36:59 the Tupac Part
Thanks
Total new appreciation and respect for this guy
even though he beat his wife all the time and she finally divorced him?
Glad seeing you living life to the fullest. My problem is living life to serious. Loved the interview!!.👍
You and me both, Brother.
I like how he said “I’m not a white rapper, I’m a rapper.”
hes actually full of wisdom.
@7:47 YES!!!!
EXACTLY!!!
just like how SLTS blew up and was a NEW STATEMENT!!!
its beyond just a song!
For a 16 year old kid to write that!!!!
That's DEEP!!!
even my songs at 20 something were no where near as descriptive and sooo well done!!!
Hes a PRO!!!
there is and ONLY EVER WILL BE 1...
ICE!.... And that's Vanilla!!!
Cube and T I LOOOVVEEEE!!!!
