Dig the top of this back up, get the hay out of there, put more gravel in until it is well above the highest water level and then put plastic down, after that truck in some clean clay to pack in and seal it from ground water infiltration, make sure to mound the clay up with the highest point around the culvert diverting the water away from the well site. Great job on everything else.
Amazing! Lot of work but it worth it.. good to see your kids involved on it.. they'll never forget doing dad's water well. ... hope you're enjoying it.
Love the hand and arm signals and the fact that your wife understands what you mean... Old habits die hard I suppose.. Keep up the good work, love watching the family build together.
Well done ! "excuse the pun" love watching you guys so much and that all of you as a family get into all the jobs no matter what the jobs are. This to me is what the families in the good old days did and it puts my own 5 children to shame because although I tried to get them to do chours, they complained and winged all the way. I am a single mother and they have all grown up to be very decent loving people in this world making it a better place in what they do. I was bought up to do work around the house and my parent taught me so many skills in life as I have tried to do with my children. From ironing to cooking even working on the engines of their cars. I find myself at fault here more than my children for not being stricter on them. They all do the cleaning and keeping their own places tidy now. I thank God there are still parents today that have wonderful parents skills and pass them on to their kids.. You both are great examples to them and it shows. I never hear them complaining or answering back. I pray your eldest son is doing well. Please keep putting out your videos I just love them. I am a fan of yours from Australia. God bless you all and please tell your children how proud I am of them helping out on the property. Well done.
Good to see the whole family helps. We had to do many chores in and around the house, which I didn't like, but now thinking back, that was all good. Remembering how my Mom and Dad did things, helps me in many situations today. So, kids, be grateful for this opportunity do do some manual labor. - And yes, whoever was behind the camera, pls keep it still! :)
Looking awesome, one of the major hurdles completed. It is nice to see that project completed and ✔️ off the list. Well done, no pun intended. LOL thanks for sharing this.
I am installing a uv system. Also I put bentonite in above the plastic. The straw was to keep the dirt from mixing with my gravel. That's what the old timers do and did. But it sure didn't work for us
Good family job, love that everyone is involved and yall are hard workers.... have to agree with the constructive crit. Hay/organics never a good choice for fill or filtration from an engineering standpoint. Should have probably continued with pea gravel and more small holes. But hey, I could be wrong.... rule of thumb in any hyrdo project, organics (hay) rot over time, gravel only gets silty.
One of my neighbors have a cement pipe sticking out of the ground that is fed by an artisan well. It is constantly flowing year round and it flows right over the top on its own.
Look like a nice family project for sure how did your welcome out? I am new here to your community I ring the bell look forward to hearing from you and getting to know you and your channel God bless Ken. I also have a how to channel with different things presently I’m working on a custom rustic stump chair bye for now keep up the great work Ken.
I understand the thought behind the hay but hay is an organic and will start to mold and brake down. Yes I see you laid down plastic before putting it down but that plastic is just going to skirt the lets say rain fall to the outer edge. So in short any mold or bacteria from the hay will find its way into you well. I would have give some thought to sand for a upper layer. But hay it's your well and do with it as you wish.
By Idaho regulations, it should have been sealed with clay to keep all surface water, out. and you hit it on the nose organic material will contaminate the well for years to come!
Agreed...not much thought put into this? I would have put the plastic down first before installing the concrete vaults. Just my 2 cents.Cheers from San Francisco
Busted Wagon Ranch don’t worry about it the worms will eat the straw. It’s insulation if your tank is sealed it doesn’t matter Boy am I late to the party!
Maybe you could tie a rope on a bucket to pull up the water you can't reach with the hose for the short term, that's how we would draw water from big concrete tanks in Jamaica.
The world is one but you still have some people with too much when some people don't have any. $1US =$100 JAMAICA so I was my country as examples because in this country we can't run to the story for every little thing we want.3 world solutions to 1 world problem.
Great job, I know we all want to cut cost, just not too sure how the straw will hold out. Maybe more stone on top and sand bellow will acst as the filter, before covering up with soil. That's my opinion but great great jop in leaving independently from the rat race game.
I made a mistake in using the straw as a barrier layer to keep sediment out of the well. I ended up removing all of it and replacing it with a sediment barrier cloth.
There are a lot of comments about the straw and my question is why would you have put it in in the first place? The plastic is really not the way to go. You should have used bentonite to seal the surrounding area. It looks like there is a lot of surface ground water pouring right there as well and that is not what you want to see. All water in the well should be coming from the bottom area not down from the top. I hope you installed a UV system.
Hi ,I am a new subscriber ,Enjoying your video's ,Rick from Classic Truck Rescue had the same thing with his road , he put a layer on filter fabric (black landscaping fabric) down first then put 4/8 inch rock on top , then the crushed stone , check out his channel it may help

A well for the Homestead...Now that's Big ! The memories you are making with your family are priceless. Thank you for sharing.
I know you oldest is gone, sure looks like the younger one is stepping up to the plate . Great to see, thanks for sharing.
Won't the straw compost down and taint the water
Awesome Dad, man after my own heart..."Kids get in there and clear the mud off the gravel, i'll sit here and film".
Amazing! Lot of work but it worth it.. good to see your kids involved on it.. they'll never forget doing dad's water well. ... hope you're enjoying it.

I enjoy seeing you all work together.
I have been thinking about doing something like that. Thanks for the help

Great to see your family working together..
Your bugs sure like the water...
You guys are doing a superb job.
It's great to see kids working hard to help. Not a lot of that going around these days.
One of my neighbors have a cement pipe sticking out of the ground that is fed by an artisan well. It is constantly flowing year round and it flows right over the top on its own.
Nice work, did you compact the gravel in lifts as you went?
Really nice family project 👍
Very happy for you and your family
Great job you guy. What a blessing to have the springs.
another good step of progress on the homestead
you should have used the black poly pipe, the pvc is so easy to crack and bust under stress.
Look like a nice family project for sure how did your welcome out?

Easy to tips and tricks etc etc the well is coming nicely. We keep pumping it out and the water quality just keeps getting better and refilling faster

72+HourBOB I did not think about that. I will have to do some changes
Busted Wagon Ranch don’t worry about it the worms will eat the straw. It’s insulation if your tank is sealed it doesn’t matter Boy am I late to the party!
Loving it. How many gallons of water are you all using as a family before the well each week
I really wish you had used pex to make your water connections. The longevity would have been a favor to you over the years
How big or should I say how wide should my well be to service my house hole and gardening. Tks. Should I have a second well too.
Mine is flowing very good. I have 4 foot pipe and 16 foot deep. That with my 2500 gallon storage will more than supply a house and garden setup.
Where's the pump go in😊

Odane Thomas I think people do that all around the world ;)
Yh 3rd world solutions to 1st world problem.
World is one, stop victimize yourself.
Oh I'm sorry because you grew up in a first world country your getting offended sorry about that but it's not my fault.
The world is one but you still have some people with too much when some people don't have any. $1US =$100 JAMAICA so I was my country as examples because in this country we can't run to the story for every little thing we want.3 world solutions to 1 world problem.
You have great kids.
Nice work y all
What state are you in?
We use to put a 1/2 cup of bleach in our well every spring. We got it tested every year and it came up clean. Perfect place for the rocks.
Congratulations

i want to see the water quality pls
It’s great to watch but please , keep the camera still !!!
themudhutt1 I'm sorry about that so.eti.es it's so hard to depending on what were doing. Were trying to save for a better camera.
Why?
whats the reason of using a layer of hay ?
I made a mistake in using the straw as a barrier layer to keep sediment out of the well. I ended up removing all of it and replacing it with a sediment barrier cloth.
@@bustedwagonranch4546 fine,it explain everything now, thanks to explain it
Good job.
louis paine Thank you
i wish u kept the camera still or use a stand...too much movement makes people dizzy...and robs the joy of seen you doing the masterpiece...

What's the straw and plastic for? Is that oil fromyour the pump running down you're well?

Another good video but WAY to short and if I may keep them coming please
dang those are big mosquitoes!
Bit scary you under that bucket
I’d be worried about using that pvc. The joints come apart real easy would be a pain to have to dig it up constantly.
Must have gotten into a bees nest
Nice. Please get a Tripod or something that will keep the camera still. You move it way too much.
