Im a mechanic, forgot my fluid at home and needed a refill. Brake clean works, just dont inhale the first hit if your lighting something lmao
it seems like you speak from experience lol
I bought my Zippo cause of you, man. This channel taught me so much about zippos i just couldnt help myself. Wanted a good lighter. And im not disappointed! 1941 replica. Keep on keepin on
Thanks !! Glad to be apart of that. Can’t beat a 41 replica !
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors 41 replica sure is something!
That's Cool
America doesn’t run on Duncan it runs on moonshine
Damn right, and rightly so. Far better than Commercial Booze.
hi! i need your help. If I want to give a Zippo to a new collector, could you recommend some that make me look good, please!
@@carolinacamacho9178 I’d say simple Black crackle it looks good and if it gets banged up it won’t really show plus it’s a great conversation starter hope I could help
I used to use cologne when i was a kid and couldn’t get lighter fluid. I started smoking at a young age. I don’t recommend it. It’s definitely hurting my health these days.
Been waiting for u to upload forever great video ❤
Thanks ! Yeah been busy. But will always still be posting
So I recently got into zippos after acquiring my deceased uncles 1950 Niagara Falls zippo. I didn’t know him as well as I would have liked to as he passed when I was quite young, so this zippo means a lot to me. I wanted to find out more about them and came across your Chanel. I’ve been binge watching all of your videos. I feel like in a weird way I almost know you and it’s been a bit of an emotional roller coaster learning about your pup and Tman. Thank you for all of your content and information you provide for us to learn and enjoy. I now have even more appreciation for the zippo my uncle carried with the knowledge I’ve acquired due to your channel. It’s inspired me to pick up my very own first zippo as an ironic gift to myself for getting sober from smoking. Hopefully I can pass it on to my future kid one day and continue the tradition. Just wanted to ask what province you’re from? BC for me! All the best, and thanks again!
Thanks man ! Glad to be apart of your journey. I’m in Ontario
Hey i just wanted to say that i appreciate your videos! they're really informative and humourous. I love this style of hands on video blogging and and your engravings are really impressive. i never knew a passive UA-cam search on how to fill a zippo would start a UA-cam binge and a humble collection. Thank you for your uploads!
Nice !! Thanks Cecilia glad to be apart of your journey !
as balkan we use vodka for zippos
Lol can’t mess with perfection
And you might use it for other purposes, I believe. I’m drinking a vodka martini right now, but I didn’t think of putting the vodka in my Zippo. My son was in Russia a few years ago and they didn’t understand him until he said, “Wadka.”
@@OnTheRiver66 wodka universal word
In Arizona, I'm using Everclear. It works fairly well.
Here in Australia, I use a product called, “Shellite”, which I find to be indistinguishable from Zippo fluid. The data sheet says that it’s also known as, “Recosol R55”, that has the following characteristics:
Appearance: colourless liquid
Specific Gravity: 0.67-0.755
Flash Point: -30oC
Boiling Point: 50-135 Celsius
Flammability Limit: 1-7.5%
Oh sweet some Australian high octane
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors Who doesn’t love high octane guzzlene? Funny story, after my post I wasn’t satisfied with, “Shellite”, and, “Recosol R55”, so I dug into it further and it turns out to be Naphtha.

Nice to see you upload man. I’m 25 years old now and my dad bought me my first Zippo when I was 15 years old, a brushed chrome 1941 replica which I still have with me today. I have recently got back into collecting and I have just bought myself a Sterling Silver Armor High Polish which was inspired by your previous videos. Keep the content coming👍🏼 all the best from the UK.
Nice !!! Your gonna love that silver. Thanks for the kind words !
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors It’s a beauty. Never owned an Armor before and it feels great with the thicker case, especially in the silver with that beautiful glow. Just wish the hinge was a bit tighter from Zippo, it’s quite loose I feel! And don’t really want to start squeezing the hinge with pliers because it looks like the hinge is made from silver too so I don’t want to damage it. Any suggestions?
@@hadynhaynes78 just use it Enjoy it. All armors are loose like that. Youll be fine. When it gets to loose. Send it back u will get the tightest hinge u ever had lol
Coleman fuel works really well
Thank you for this video!
Anytime bro 😎
New subcriber here. Been really enjoying your content recently! You should do a video covering zippo's "loss proof" lighters. I've heard about them but can't find much content on them. Thanks for being the go to for all things Zippo.
They are just a zippo hinge with a wire in it instead of a pin. U can make one urself
which one of these alternatives is going to do the least damage to my zippo insert or one i can use as a every day lighter fluid for my zippo
Great video! I have lamp oil bottle in garage, i think i'll try that for change.
Yeah doesnt work that great to be honest. Lamp oil will gunk up your zippo
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors just for test, hahha!
@@ilevilminko4642 lol let me know it how works
Lamp oil indoor for me. Just found your channel. GOOD INFO. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video man! Quick question, which alternative would last the longest? I'm fairly new to zippo lighters. I don't smoke but I love the design and it's nice to keep around.
I worked in a water lab and had access to pure ethanol. It worked fine but evaporated fast and I had to refill frequently.
The upside was it had almost no smell or taste. Plus I stopped getting those painful “burns” on my thigh from leaking zippo fluid leaking in the California summer heat
Nice. I think the fluid problem though on the leg is from over filling. Never happens to me in the summer
MOGAS works also, but has 4' plume of black smoke. Used it when lighter fluid was unavailable overseas
Oh cool
hey bro, could yo do a disassembly video of the thunder bird insert? im really curious to see how it works n stuff but sadly, no one has done any
I was trying to make a mix of kerosene and white gas but it never worked. I was hoping to find a ratio where it would be thin enough to be like lighter fluid but thick enough to not evaporate fast like lighter fluid. Hoped the white gas would catch from the spark and the resulting heat from the flame would warm the kerosene enough to vaporize it of at least make it flow smoother from the heat. Still like the smell of kerosene
Yeah buts it’s cool to test things like that. I never thought of doing anything like that
Hahah this video is so helpful thx!!!
No problem!!
u should do a review on the new metal gaskets that are available. it’s finally here! i wanna know if it’s everything we’ve hoped for. i got mine from aliexpress
Havent seen them
Don’t use denatured alcohol it doesn’t work very well I tried it last week
Did buddy ever get back to u about the merch
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors yeah actually today he commented that he was looking for the email I sent
I just use white spirit (paint thinner) and it works like a charm
Damon straight
I use this stuff called "Wasbenzine" idk what its called in english but it preforms 2x better then zippo lighter fluid lol
Sweet thanks for sharing
When I was a kid in Europe in the 60's the old grandpas would always use gasoline in their lighters. As far as Cologne is concerned, I once used some to clean a Zippo insert and it worked quite well but then, I was stupid enough to turn the wheel and managed to burn my fingers. By the way, this is how I know you should never light an insert when it is not in its case!
Yo man I was just wondering what it the name of the zippo in the middle? It’s bad ass
What zippo is that ? I don’t even remember what zippos are in this video lol
Best zippo channel! so maybe you can answer, I am curious about Zippos from Japan on eBay I can't find any vids of anyone having one of them shipped here is there any reason since I see Zippos we can't find here?
here in denmark we have something called "Rense Benzin" translated to cleaning gasoline, that is what i use, i can get 3-4 bottles of that for the same prize of zippo fluid and each bottle have 4 times the fluid in, i have been using it for more then 20 years now
Hey Kim !! Hope all is well. I had no idea u weren’t using zippo fluid lol
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors hehe... not may ppl do... i could do better, but atleast i can take care of my body now that the goverment have forced me on retirement
@@Wlmer82 oh dang early retirement. At least u can find the good in it and take care of yourself
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors the thing about retirement in denmark is, you can still work if you want to, but you dont have to, and you wont louse any money by not working
@@Wlmer82 well that’s a good little system. Glad it’s working for ya brother
A Zippo is literally a pocket oil lamp so it makes sense that the fuel works good
Hey man, love ur vids. I was wondering if there are any known performance differences between different lighter flints on the market? [brand, color, etc]
Not sure I only use zippo flints
So my EDC is a 1941 replica black crackle. I like to wrap the lower sides of the insert with tape. I like that it stays in the case better and that the insert doesnt get scratched. I just wanted to know your opinion on this.
41 is king. The one thing I don’t like about tape is the residue left behind after a long period of time
But which one is the best, and which one is the cheapest.
Probably white camp gas or pure naphtha
Hey, just curious, but what if I put cooking oil in the lighter?
Too thick
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors I see, so not a good idea. Thanks mate!
I have used NC thinner (nitrocellulose thinner). Here in india. But it puts some green and black deposits on the chimmney. Does turpentine oil works. Cannot find naptha here
Yeah that’s crazy can’t get that stuff there. Is there white gas
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors no. Only Coleman butane available here. Zippo fluid 12 oz bottle cost INR 810 ( USD 9.7) Crazy!! and here one refill lasts only 3 to 4 days. So I got a butane insert but it doesn't have the same zippo vibe.
@@s.d.b.5803 lol no it doesnt
I'm in Bangladesh and using a mixture of 50% zippo fluid and 50% paint thinner, works well so far

Pouch is holding strong hehe!
@@supermanlol67 hell’s yeah brother !! What’s going on tonight
white spirit (Shelite) even cheaper
Sweet !
zippos are sometimes called petrol lighters. I've tried it and it works but it's not nice.
Haha my friend uses gas. He says the same thing
What about Heat (methyl) in the yellow plastic bottle? It burns really clean in alcohol stoves. Probably won't last long, but it does burn clean and in a pinch could it work?
Sounds legit
The problem with yellow Heat is that it burns with a clear flame that can't be seen in daylight
isn't gasoline very dangerous and with a bad smell?
Any flammable fluid is really
Where would be the best place to look for dated zippos, maybe someone that has one that's willing to sell, but specifically Dec 1986. Sorry to ask here not sure where else to get hold of you, Regards, Jaco from South Africa
U will never find that one. They Didnt put the months on back the.
@@Zippofanatic77outdoors didn't they change it from the stripes half wat through the year? I think it starts at G?
@@vrottoon 1987
Thanks for the reply, every sippo chart I've looked at it's 1986, honestly thought I'd propably get the best advice here as I've been watching your channel for a while and taking in all the advice... sorry man, maybe zippo is wrong.
is it ok to use gas as a every time use fluid for my zippo?
