In today's video, I'm giving you my top tips of things to do for FREE in Edinburgh, Scotland's beautiful capital, as we head to August and our Festival month when hundreds of thousands of people move in to the city. I'm going to be doing a few videos on this theme over the coming weeks. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is a great time of year to get to know Edinburgh and as well as all the many Festival activities, there are so many amazing things to do and see for free, while everything else in the city becomes expensive.

Great tip - I’ve never done this myself
I love the enthusiasm you have for Edinburgh. Nice cinematography and lots of good information for those who come to explore.
Edinburgh brings back awesome memories.... having my childhood there in the 70s. Now glad both my daughters have chosen Uni in Scotland. I would rate Edinburgh as a world heritage must see city. Old hardware combined with new software. The Scottish are warm people indeed
The parliament was actually opened in 1999 / 2001 and not 1991 like I said in the video. P.S - join my Patreon membership for exclusive perks www.patreon.com/shaunvlog
Only been to Edinburgh once.(want to get back again one day) Having a pack lunch in the Princes Street Gardens was an enjoyable time to relax and take a break from sightseeing.
Botanic gardens is also a really good free thing to do in Edinburgh. Also the Stockbridge Market on a Sunday 😊
bumble345 yeah that’s for sure another one for the list
I hate the market
Botanic garden costs for entry
bumble345 Pilton, Muirhouse and Niddrie are great areas too.
Rugby Guy they’re beautiful scenic areas of Edinburgh, but Westerhailes tops them, Niddrie a close second and close to hollyrood
It's great to see my hometown in all its glory. Brilliant as always Shaun! :)

I found the Water of Leith walking path completely by accident when I was there in 2017. Beautiful walk.

Thanks for the video! I am in Edinburgh with my wife this week and we pretty much did everything in your video. Deans Village was beautiful! Thank you again!
Great video Shaun, thank you! I've visited Scotland (Edinburgh and Glasgow) last summer and it felt so good revisiting this city with your guidance, it gave me the chills. What an amazing city you get to live in!
I have spent one month of my summer in Edinburgh and I went to the majority of the places you mentioned in this video. I can't wait to come back to Edinburgh, your city is the most beautiful city I have ever visited❤
.
A girl from Spain
Thank you for the great video, Hoping to visit Edinburgh next month
As a American especially one from rural Kentucky it's so strange hearing about places that have been around for centuries. It's not like we don't have any historical stuff we've got a lot but it's all at most 250 years old. Even if we go to a grave yard we're amazed if it's form the civil war. But either way l love the video and the fact that you love to show the world your home. And I see why because Edinburgh is just gorgeous.
Absolutely stunning. Wow. Thank you for a great video. Truly loved it.
So excited for this series! Would love to visit Edinburgh one day
Oh thank you so much. I am in need for this video as i am at Edinburgh now !!!

I love Edinburgh! I have been there twice and don’t know if I’ll ever get back there but fell in love with it. (I’ll say this softly but this is better than London by far!)

Congrats on 100k man! Edinburgh is awesome, I am glad I live in here.
I fell in love with that city!! And I´d love to be back someday! I am glad because I visited everyone of the places of your list! Thanks for this video!
Hi Shaun!
Greetings from the great state of Minnesota in the US! I'm a bit late to the party, just recently discovering your vlog and channel, but I am loving getting caught up as quickly as I can. We are making our first trip to Scotland in October 2020 and the fun is just beginning. Thanks for all the great videos, tips, advice, and laughs! Keep 'em coming!
When my daughter visited Edinburgh in May she hiked up Arthur's Seat and sent me some wonderful photos. I want to visit so very badly but walking isn't easy for me anymore so between her photos and your vlog I have gotten to see your beautiful city. Thank you Shaun.
Awesome video, Shaun. This just makes us want to visit Edinburgh again. It's been far too long since we were last there.
We loooove Dean village!
This is what really surprised me about Edinburgh was just how little money we spent, yet saw so many AMAZING historical sites, museums, etc. Some of the BEST museums in the world! We were able to visit without spending much more than we'd spend on our day to day life at home.......But I hated missing Portabella Beach! But I didn't know til Shaun featured it....oh well, NEXT TIME!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful Edinburgh with us.
I loved it, Shaun!! The Dean Village warms my heart!
This video was so helpful I got to see such beautiful and exciting new places thank you
My husband and I haven't had our honeymoon yet, and we got married 3 years ago... This is definitely where we're going to have to go! I'm saving this video for later so we can hit up all of these places. Thank you!
Two other good reasons we need to go: 1) Both of our families are originally from Scotland.
2) We've never ever been out of Ontario Canada. Never been in a plane. Never seen the ocean either. It'll be an epic trip when we can make it work 😌
StenBren Sven that’s awesome it would be an honour if you choose Scotland. Congrats btw 😊
@@shaunvlog Thank you! 😄
@@upandawaykay2075 did y’all go?? 😄🏴
Great video Shaun, thank you for doing it. Love it ! Colton Hill looks amazing, as does the Royal mile .
Bob Almendinger cheers Bob glad you like it 😊
Amazing city! Thank you for this video :)
About half of these were on my list for our first trip over in late May next year :) Hoping the weather will be decent then, and thanks for the tips Shaun!
I love the view with the blue fountain and the castle up above in the distance. Just beautiful!! Great tips for free things to do.
I really enjoyed watching this useful video 👍👏👏🌹& Thank you 😊
Best video guide I've seen so far!
Enjoyed the tour Shaun! Some friends, my wife & I spent a few days in Edinburgh in the Spring '08. We're all history geeks and that place is loaded with it! One of our favorite places was Greyfriars Kirkyard. We had drinks and haggis fritters w/ whiskey sauce in the pub at the gateway that were just fantastic. Then there was the endearing story of "Greyfriars Bobby", so wonderful. We then visited the grave and monument of Rev. Alexander Henderson of Covenanter fame. (He was the multiple Great Grandfather of our traveling companion, Johanna.) We were guided through the cemetery by a deminunitive gentleman from the Kirk office. After finding Hendersons monument he offered to show us his ancestors marker. We agreed of course, primarily out of courtesy. That monument was a plaque up high on the side of the Kirk, it was honoring Colin Mclaurin. (I was just amazed, having studied the mathematical principles of this protege' of Sir Isaac Newton when I was in college!) It had been placed by his son and written in latin. So our "guide" explained that it made some comment about how his intellect even surpassed the bounds of death then he casually laughed and said "what rubbish!" We all just rolled laughing. What a grand memory from an amazing place... Thanks for bringing it back!
When you were talking about the Royal Mile being uphill, it reminded me of my trip to Edinburgh, the first time I had ever been to Scotland. I decided right away that everything in Scotland was uphill both ways after visiting Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle.
Used this video on our holiday to Edinburgh last week. Loved it.
We just came from the Fringe this year and walked the city up and down! What a glorious and beautiful place this is! We wish to return! Scotland is simply unforgettable 💙
Hi Shaun, I just want to thank you for these tips in my week in Edinburgh recently. My entertainment and sightseeing costs were virtually nothing and I feel I got to know this special place on a deeper level. Cheers from Colorado
Have been to Edinburgh. Was on a choir tour. Only been to the castle, saw the bridge over the firth of fourth, visited Arthur's seat, and sang at St. Mary's.
Hi Shaun! very exciting to see this video. I miss Edinburgh! A city in my dreams, quiet, quiet and beautiful! Thank you!

Ah só cool, hope you make it over here then 😊
I’ve lived in in Scotland my entire life and been to Edinburgh several times, but honestly never seen much of it. Gonna check these out once it’s safe to travel again!
The Arthur's seat is amazing totally worth waiting for! 👍
This is such a great channel! My Maxwell ancestors come from the south in Scotland! I love seeing all these amazing houses from afar!
Some of can only dream of going to Edinburgh. Thank you for your video. It makes me feel like I am there. You are awesome Shaun. Keep up the great videos. I would love to see more of videos like these. 😊
Wonderful video...brings back fantastic memories from 35 years ago when I was there for my 18th birthday. Oh to be young again.☺
thank you for this video! I'm from Italy and I'm planning to visit Edinburgh next year, so these informations are very useful :)
In November i will be traveling for the first time to Edinburgh and I already fell in love with the town just by watching your videos. !!! Thank you so much for the Tipps!!! I can’t wait to get there
Thank you for sharing some of your beautiful country
1st.) Whatever camera you are using, WOW! 2nd.) This content is far more worthy than 97k followers. This quality of content (including editing) is Top Notch! Here's to reaching 100k soon!!!! 3rd.) As you know, would love for you and Teka...(and family) to come to the US to live. 4th.) If you are interested in 'Spokes', in the US, Boyyyyyyy, we have tons! In New England, the Salem Witch Trial, is a big thing. Halloween is massively huge holiday here, and, at least in my region, it's almost treated like a religious holiday. Early Colonialism and Hauntings goes hand in hand here....Absolutely Terrifying. As Always, Keep up the great work!
My family is going to Scotland and will be in Edinburgh. Can't wait!! We leave on the redeye Friday!
Nicely done. Great job!
Thankss for your suggestions really helpful
It's one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, certainly one of my absolute favourites. I love the medieval structure of the Old Town, just gorgeous.
Just visited there last week and I totally agree!!
I wish I've seen tihs video two years ago when I visited Edimburgh the fringe, not all places you mentioned I went to, but in Portobelo, Arthur's seat, Greyfriars and Prince street gardens I spent a lot time in each, it is a lovely place Edimburgh, it was the highlights of my 2017 summer.
Our trips to Edinburgh were always whirlwind stopovers on the way to somewhere else. We made time to see Holyroodhouse Palace (closed to tours because the Duke was in town, so we stopped in the Queen's Gallery) and Edinburgh Castle (look for the pet cemetery near the top). We walked through the gardens surrounding the Scott monument. We found a pub near the hotel, and had to buy another suitcase at John Lewis next door to hold all the things we bought on the trip.
On my second channel, I’m going to post a lot more behind the scenes videos. Would love to see you over there >>> ua-cam.com/video/2i-_nLS-vk4/v-deo.html
Do you live in town? Because I live in corstorphine
Je vous remercie Shaun . Votre videos est....great and nice.
Shaun Thank goodness u’re not one of those Scots that put too much accent when they speak so foreigners wil think they’re speaking Gaelic
Wow! Thank you Shaun! Absolutely beautiful city and green spaces! And the beach is so close! Love the gardens! You live in such a beautiful historic City! The camera work and drone shots, just incredible! Oh how I wish I could come there! So hot out here in the Western States!
Your the best! Thank you for this! 💕☄️☘️
Hi Shaun..... I love your video,- and I love Edinburgh. I lived there for 3 months busking with my bagpipe. I could stay forever..... you missed the fantatic view from the castle esplanade. From here you can look to all sides,- to Athurs Seat, the Old Town and Grass Marked and down on Princess Street and Gardens. To go to esplanade in the morning to see the town waking up is awesome..... I also can recommend The Old Calton Burial Ground at the start of Pricess Street. Awesome place with some important persons. Once again, thanks for your video.... I love it.
Had the pleasure of exploring some of Edinburgh in 2001, but I was broke and alone and had no plan. This video makes me want to return and do it right. Great list.
Wil Watkins really hope you make it back here 😊
@ Will Watkins I hear you. Most of the time I am solo when I travel usually don't have a lot of money. I usually 'wing it' as far as having a plan during my travels.
@@brunoschenkman8951 most of my travels were in the Navy. I would have a short window to explore an area with little money or a clue what to do. I actually prefer a more freestyle exploration versus guided tours and such which is why a list like Shaun shared is perfect. Now I just need to re-visit all the cool places I went.
@@shaunvlog It's a travel priority. I absolutely loved Scotland. The week I spent wandering about, I saw so many cool things and met really nice people, but as I said, it was a bit of chaos and on the cheap which limited me a lot.
Thanks for the tips, just got here and are staying at the Balomoral for a few days before heading off to Inverness and Isle of Skye. I've sure enjoyed your insight and information!
went to edinburgh last summer and did half the things one this list. it was amazing. 10/10 would go back and do it all again
wow this is very helpful for me as i am relocating to your scenic and history city by November 2022 ❤
My wife and I are headed to England/Scotland in September. I got the chance to visit a little bit of Scotland 10 yrs ago for a travel semester, but my wife has never been. We're planning 3 nights in Edinburgh, and this video is a huge help. I'll be taking a look at your others. Thanks!
I love you videos. When I’m home sick for Edinburgh I click on to these. I used to climb Arthur seat just about every weekend, great memories that’s why I love Rebus so much I know where he is in his books
My 1st FRINGE fest this year (after my fiancée and I leave Gretna). This is very helpful. From Arizona.
Awesome. Thankyou. I am definitely coming back one day.
