    Hi Everyone, Eric here! Hope you enjoyed the video - I absolutely loved making it. A slight correction: The airport is just "Edinburgh Airport" not "Edinburgh Waverley Airport". "Edinburgh Waverley" is the name of the central train station. I got excited recording the off-text....

    It’s weird watching this and knowing where everywhere is and being able to see places like my house and school from the view of Arthur seat great video 👍

      haha, thanks! Yeah, I know what you mean - I have the same feeling when I watch other travellers' videos about cities I know well - like Toronto. Hike up the seat and take in the views for us, will you? :)

    I'm so excited that I get to go there! It's going to be my first time out of my country. My trip got postponed 2 years ago but finally, I get to go to Scotland to play the bagpipes with my band.

    For such a short video, this packs quite a bit in and it is very well edited in terms of the content and narration matching. So many vlogs are by first time visitors - enjoyable but frustrating. I know the subject matter very well from years of walking those wonderful streets, so I appreciate such things and the effort which has gone into your clip.
    Just a couple comments (glad you sorted the airport one): a thing that challenges visitors is the perception of distance. Terms like 'to the south of the city' could mean 10 miles. Consider saying, for example: 'A 15-minute walk from Princes Street and views of the castle is Dean Village.' When I show visiting friends the sights they are always amazed by just how close everything is. Yes, it is a lot of walking (the hills are challenging for some), but every step is rewarding in terms of what one experiences. As a result one tends to walk further just for the sake of seeing more versus having to walk far between any particular attraction. And there is always the bus.
    Also, you mention the Fringe Festival. It is actually the Edinburgh International Festival (of which the highlight is the Military Tattoo), of which the Fringe is one of several other events happening.
    Cheers!

    The Elephant House is NOT the home of the Harry Potter novels, that title belongs to a cafe in Nicolson Street (which is now a Chinese restaurant). Rowling wrote parts of some later novels at the Elephant House.

      Definitely of course love to see more Germany!
      I just took my first overseas trip to China last year at the beginning on December oh man so amazingg I LOVE cold Weather as much as I love LA of course it's home but man do I get tired of the Sunny Weather it never truly gets cold here😅
      Seriously gotta make my way to Europe soon, just looks so beautiful in the Autumn/Winter .. Prefer Colder Weather than Sunny Weather any day! Lol

    • @Penguinandpia
      @Penguinandpia  4 роки тому

      Fair point! Never been to China but it's on the list - along with others in the area like South Korea and Japan. If you like colder weather and autumn colours you should SERIOUSLY consider a trip up to Ontario (where I am from). The fall colours in the classic Muskokas (north of Toronto) are just stunning - and you can head for a smaller city like Kingston which is also gorgeous in the fall. You could also just go to like Maine or Vermont - same geography - but you dollar goes further in Canada ;)

    Whisky maybe be known as "Scotch" in other parts of the world, but in Scotland it's known as "whisky." If you ask for "Scotch" in a bar or pub...best hope they're polite with ya! 😄 Otherwise - great video!

    I'm a student fond of travelling. Can you please suggest an affordable place to stay in for two or three nights in the city centre of Edinburgh?
    Also, is one day sufficient to see the castle, Arthur's seat and other important places?

    • @Penguinandpia
      @Penguinandpia  3 роки тому +2

      Hey, great questions! As for accommodation, we have a whole detailed guide on this topic with suggestions in the affordable range - many of which are right in the city centre: www.penguinandpia.com/en/best-places-stay-edinburgh/
      To summarize for you, if you're okay with a chain hotel there are a number of Ibis hotels right in the Old Town and/or just off the Royal Mile. These are popular options for visitors - especially those staying only one day. You'd also be a short walk back to catch the bus to the airport or catch the train out of the city from Waverley train station.
      As for spending one day to do all that you mentioned, it's doable but that would be a pretty busy day! This also depends on how much time you want to spend at each attraction. The Castle and the Seat are at opposite ends of the Royal Mile and the Seat is a nice little hike... if you factor in stopping to eat and/or a coffee break, you'd have time to wander through a few other places (Princes Street Gardens, Rose Street in New Town, Grassmarket, etc.) but not a ton of time to really dive into another attraction. Hope that's helpful!
