  • Here's our review of the food we used on our 2019 hike of the Overland Track, in Tasmania.
    I stayed with my trusted approach of Back Country and Pasta packs. Bland & boring, for sure.
    While my wife tried the Strive brand of food. This food is a real option if you are after something a little different to the de-hydrated range of brands. It's actually edible.

    I prefer the Back Country packs as I don't have to carry any pots etc and you can eat it out of the packet and don't have to worry about washing up. 12 meals 2 metal cups and a spoon was all that was needed.

      Terry, you must have a better stomach than me. Perhaps I've just been using them for a little too long, as they have become unpalatable to me now. But yeah, they are so convenient. Thanks for watching.

    Hey there.
    I started working at Strive in February this year. Some of the meals have changed a bit and we have some new offerings too! Our labels are a bit clearer as well.
    I’m glad you liked it. I look forward to a 2020 edition!

    Am not a walker but loving your videos. This one was fabulous. Can’t imagine being cold and wet and having to eat rehydrates food. The Strive definitely takes my vote.

      It's kind of strange you know, sometimes when you are at your wettest and coldest, I normally woof this "slop" down. Especially after a long day hiking. You kind of don't have much choice. Keep telling myself I am not in a café, but the bush. And the Strive food really is quite tasty.

      Kathy, glad we could help. My wife absolutely swears by the Strive food for multi day hikes. Much more flavour than my boring pasta packs. Thanks for watching.

    Great video. What were both your pack weights when you started?

    • @two_in_tasmania
      @two_in_tasmania  4 роки тому +3

      Chevy307sb, my pack was about 23kg's. Which included the 2 person tent and water. My partner was a few kilo's less than that. Thanks for watching. Glad you liked our view of the world.

      Glad you liked the video Tassie Devil. It's all good fun.
      Yes, we are doing a day-by-day of our actual hike. I'm creating that now and will be uploading in the coming week or two.
      I am trying to get the wife more involved … but she's a bit camera shy.

    Cheers for the video. found it as i was eating a back country hot pot and feeling disappointed with the lack of flavor.

      Sg, yeah that Back Country stuff is no good. I just can't stomach those meals anymore. My wife swears by the Strive food as an alternative for flavour when eating out in the bush. Thanks for watching.

    The meals look nice better than my homemade ones I used on the South Coast track ,cooking seperate meals for each of you must have used up a lot of gas if I used those meals I would make up a heat cosy (old wool beanie) bring food up to a boil then turn off the gas for 15 minutes then reheat regards Mike

      KIS, yeah the Strive food isnt too bad ( though we are getting a little over it now as well ). But that is a key point with Strive - very gas hungry if you let it simmer for a while. Thanks for watching.

    How many gas cannister did you guys end up using?

    • @two_in_tasmania
      @two_in_tasmania  5 років тому +1

      Hi Oinkies. We ended up using just under 2 of the cannisters. Some of the Strive food is a bit gas hungry with long cooking times. But others take no time at all. Thanks for watching.

    How many calories per day for each of you?

    • @two_in_tasmania
      @two_in_tasmania  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Brad, gee, I have honestly no idea on that question. We don't count the calories of our food. Our food is more just based on what we feel like we need to have a full stomach at the end of the day, and to keep us going during the day - just gut feel.
