Rest in piece John. You will always be remembered as a legend, both on 2 and on 4 wheels.
if any one deserves an knighthood its this man,
he will always be SIR John Surtess to me.

Deservedly, Moss and Mansell are. Still scratching my head on why Surtees hasn't yet been knighted, though.
I agree
Happy Birthday John Surtees, the only man to win the World Championship on 2 and 4 wheels
A true living legend. I can't imagine the memories this man has built up and the things he has seen. A differences between the two cars is completely night and day notwithstanding the sheer physical differences. I only wish F1 went back to the powertrains of the 2000s, this F2007 just sounds amazing. We will see what the 2016 cars will sound like with the new exhaust set up intended to make the cars sound like we have come to know an F1 car to sound like.
saluti dall'italia! love it
Big John
Did they not have safety belts back then or did Surtees simply not use them here?
+Nino Schier
No safety belts in F1 cars in the 1960s. You just got in and off you went.
Treetop64
Do you know when they started to use them? I'm very interested in this
I only know Rindt had some.
Nino Schier
Belts weren't required in F1 until the early 1970s. I don't remember the year.
@@ninoschier9528 If you haven't seen it yet there's a good documentary on the evolution of safety in F1 called "1". It has some pretty graphic images and films so I wouldn't recommend watching it if you can't handle that sort of thing.
