@@nopenevergonnahappen-z1p still using em and still loving em! The bushings have worn out much quicker than I’d hoped, but Burly Brand sent me some polyurethane bushings that I’ll be putting in this week actually. I believe they said they plan to switch the new shocks to polyurethane since that’s what they use for the heavier Harley’s anyway…but don’t quote me on that. If your shocks don’t have the poly bushings, it looks like they’re Progressive Suspension 5008-028 bushings.
The thing about shocks is, I would imagine it to be impossible to build them with the dampening that would be ideal for all rider weights and loads, and then there is the matter of trading off comfort for performance. It's one thing to get a comfortable ride over potholed city streets and another to go over bumps on a curve at 80 mph. I can't imagine one setting of preload, compression dampening, or rebound dampening would be equally ideal for both of those situations because they are quite different. Springs, preload adjustment, and dampening, for both compression and rebound all work together, or against each other, which is why I wish every shock company provided an assortment of springs and had dampening adjustments for both compression and rebound. I know that would be more expensive, but I believe it would be worth it. I got a new shock for my bike, and I was told that it would be adjusted for my weight and riding based on the information I gave them. Though it had preload adjustment and rebound adjustment, it had no compression adjustment. I began experimenting with preload and rebound adjustments, and through all of that, where I ended up, was at the same location the shocks came with. I believe that where your shock is adjusted for compression, will also sort of dictate where your other settings will be. If you go rather firm on the compression setting, expect that you will likely be setting the rebound rather firmly also, otherwise it will feel "boingedy" or as if you are "bunny hopping" However if your preload is softer, your other settings will likely change to adapt. What I'm saying is, that it all works together, so you want to have all the options of adjustments you can get, but I consider the foundation of the ride to be the right springs, and enough travel. Without enough travel, you have nothing to work with. Sounds like they got it right. Good choice on shocks.
Awesome vid. If your a taller rider, these shocks along with some lowered pegs would make a huge difference, without sacrificing stock 35 degree lean angle. Thats a game changer. This will be on the top of my list of mods to do to the new bike.
The positive feedback is easy when these things kick so much ass! 🙌🏻 The other day I clicked the preload up, got out for 6 hours of backroads, and fell even more in love with them! Can’t wait to put them through the paces! 🤘🏻

@mahermaher502 THX, that's an important Info for me! I guess they where to harsh than even in the "softest" setting? Was it the spring or the dampening or both?
Those 5mm and 6mm bolts should be available at any local hardware store, and for not much money. For bolts that small, it might be just fine to just use your experience and tighten them just "by hand" without a torque wrench.
Hey Burch. Got an idea for you. At some point, make a video showing a compilation of all the issues you've found with this bike. Not to shit on Honda but hopefully call attention to these issues.
What a great video. I am a new rider and want Rebel 1100 DCT as my first bike. Based on my research so far I have to do these mods, because I am 6'4" and 34" inseam...and I aim to keep the mid controls for sure. I am also want a cruiser bike, love the visual appearance of the Rebel + DCT combo, there is nothing else like this on the market. 1. Burly brand longer rear shocks 2. Corbin solo seat (moves me further back and higher) 3. Remove rubber covers from the pegs (1/4" gained there) 4. Raise the handle bars by 3 inches if needed. Are there any 6,2" riders of Rebel 1100s who would recommend other mods besides forward controls, which I do not want? Perhaps there is some kind of mod, which would allow the mid control pegs to go lower as the suspension would be risen by the longer shocks? Just guessing... Thank you all!
If i was you i would ask Burly Brand if they could Just start including replacement bolts for the shocks, i mean including at least 2 replacement bolts would be good enough and would only cost burly brand literal pennies to include better bolts than the stock Honda ones.
Hey man great video! My wife loved your review and immediately bought them for her 2023 1100. We just completed the install and noticed when the bike goes into its side stand, it’s a LOT more leaned over. Wondered if you noticed the same and made a side stand upgrade as well? If you did a new stand, could you share what you bought and perhaps a quick Burch install video!? Thanks in advance and again, GREAT video!
Looking back it’s funny, but in the moment I was HEATED! 😂 My garage is 20 mins from my house. When the first bolt stripped I had to go home to get the new bolt and a drill to extract the old bolt, then drive back to the garage. Get back to the garage and the drill’s battery dies two seconds later. Go to Home Depot for a new battery, realize they’re $80+, and just go back home for more batteries, then back to the garage. It was a multi-hour chore getting that damn thing out, just for it to happen AGAIN! 😅😭😂 Gotta love bikes man…
Those torque wrench's you have are notorious for being inaccurate. Also when you are done with the tool, you have to set them back to the lowest setting or else they will get even more messed up. Get a electronic torque testing device to see if they are messed up, if so, you can return them if you just bought them.
Have you noticed a change in the front wheel tracking since you've installed the new shocks? Has the wobble gone away? I only ask since the longer shock should shift more weight to the front wheel and reduce the rake angle. Thanks!
@@feloniousmonk3049 I've seen that mentioned before. I don't have a Rebel yet, just looking into it. I don't use a smart phone mount on my bikes anyway. Just curious how the new shocks affect handling including low speed maneuverability. Thanks!
Would you recommend these same shocks for a rebel 500 (or 300 for that matter)….94 would you recommend different rear shock upgrade since those are lighter bikes? Thanks so much!
@@LinkFelton it’s SO worth it dude! And stay tuned cause we’re throwing my stock suspension on Nina’s 300! So if that works out then you could sell your stock suspension to a 300/500 owner and make most of your money back 🤔😳
Nice install and I hope you can get some good lean angles with them. When I worked at HD every wanted burly slammed shocks where Im at everyone wanted that lowered look. Crazy about that bolt stripping... Don't tell Nina 😂
Love your channel! Wanted to say that first. Now I have to say that the bolt breaking like that really worries me. Honda has some problem with their parts procurement process, obviously. Either their priorities or wrong headed, or their quality inspection is lacking. Either way, Honda is going to lose their reputation for quality if they don’t get their act together. Combine the bad bolt with a wobbly front end and resulting 100 mph top end limit (the Shadow Phantom 750 will do 110), and you have some questions that need to be answered.
@@feloniousmonk3049 he said it was from that, but he has indicated that it is still there in later videos. I think it may be an aerodynamic issue with the lightness and slant of the front of the bike. Some kind of front wing might be a solution.
Hi, no I bought installed YSS adjustable shocks for the rebel 1100, bought them from a supplier in the Netherlands. It's been about a year since I installed it. They are way better than stock for sure. I have seen a few videos that installed Ohlins, there is a channel, I think on the rebel, he put Ohlins on, his vids are very detailed, a little long but very informative
The channel is On the Rebel 11. The guy on the channel says he's 5'-8", probably around 155lbs. I didn't watch all of his vids on the Ohlins since I already had mine. I do like the yss shocks, but the bike is still a cruiser and if the road is bad your going to feel it regardless of the shocks IMO. Before buying anything I would check if the shocks can be purchased for a lighter weight person. I did not do that when I bought my YSS shocks. I think the higher end shocks do come in different spring weights, good luck. BTW, I have back issues, hence the upgrade. I'm pretty sure my YSS shocks adjustments are not maxed out, except I do have them almost as tall as I can, better for my hips. Good luck!
Hey there, I would love to see how Nina fits on the bike now with the added height, as a inseam challenged rider I would love to see before I add these to my bike. Thanks in advance!
I had the same issue with Honda's bolts. I had to replace the right fender subframe piece because the forward bolt decided to twist off. Then, the extractor siezed in the bolt. Completely wrecked.
most dealers will replace those sort of bolts with new when performing any work like this, generally the bolts weaken after being tightened even just once so they aren't as strong the second time round (source; me, I work at a car dealership)
Just curious, Why don`t you purchase a few upgraded bolts at the hardware store? Why use soft hardware? Purchase a stabilizer bar for your fork and your wobble will disappear. JMHO
Honestly I'd do it if I were you! I've put in several more hours of riding on the stilettos since posting this, and they're superior to the stock shocks in every way! You could probably even sell your 0 mile stock shocks and recoup most, if not all, of your money back.
Now with all that space under the fender, you could get a gas tank and fender combination made that will hold perhaps two gallons of gas and run a line to the tank, and as long as it is higher than where it enters the main tank gravity can do it's thing. All you need then is turn the valve when your gas light comes on. If you had to, you could always find a ditch to slope the bike to get all the gas into the main tank. I just hate bikes with no fuel range. I need 200 + to be happy. Who wants to visit a gas station every day?
I didn’t do a video specifically as a follow up, but I’ve talked about it in a few videos since then- they’re hands down one of the BEST things I’ve done to the bike! Ride quality is SIGNIFICANTLY improved both on solo rides and two-up rides, and it handles much better. And I know you’re taller so I’m sure you’ll like the slight raise in seat height too!
@@Foodgeek nice dude, you’re going to LOVE them! Hopefully shipping didn’t cost you an arm and a leg…which reminds me, I still have to ship out your hoodie 😅😂
@@LifeOfBurch Installed then on my Rebel 1100 Touring. I honestly don't see an improvement in the ride. Not only that, with the hard saddle bags in place it is impossible to adjust the shocks as the panniers and muffler are in the way. So not impressed.
Great video! Would love a shock upgrade. I’ve got a 500 but really don’t want to increase the seat height. The Mustang seat already added about an inch. I’m 5’1 and need every inch that I can get. Any suggestions on shocks?
Thanks! I think Ohlins makes shocks for the 500, but they’re pricey. I’m going to take my stock shocks and put them in my girlfriend’s Rebel 300, so maybe you could try finding used 1100 shocks once someone upgrades theirs? Should be a direct fit and I’m assuming same height.
Hey Burch, I'm bottoming out on my 1100 stock shocks. Wondering if you have any idea how much extra weight it would take to bottom out the Stilettos? I'm 200lb with all my gear on. Would like the extra seat height but considering YSS shocks with a heavier spring but not much more travel or height. Thoughts please.
Man, I must be lucky so far. The fender bolts and shock bolts were SUPER tight on mine, but they didn't strip for me. I've had the shocks on and off a few times with no issues. Same goes for the fender bolts. I did notice a pretty good amount of rust on the mounts though... did you see anything like that? Did you notice any fitment clearance issues between the swingarm and exhaust? Really looking forward to these shocks, thanks for the update!
I did notice some rust inside the top left mounting point, but all the others were fine. Not sure why it was just that one though? As for clearance, there’s no issues anywhere! Good to go 100%. I clicked the preload up to the second setting and got out for 6 hours of backroads the other day and these things rippp!! Such an improvement in every way!
They should fit just fine! Someone already put some on their 500, but I’m not sure if they were a direct bolt on or if any modifications were needed. Also not sure if the 500’s shocks are the same length as the 1100 or not. If they’re shorter, then the stilettos would raise the 500 a bit more than my 1100. I’m gonna be putting my stock 1100 suspension on my girlfriend’s 300 soon though, so if those are a direct swap then we’ll know the stilettos are as well!
22:00 but the stuck chocks are way way better looking. To bad they are to stiff . I just bought a 2022 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT and the stupid seat is so freaking stiff I hate it and suspension is stiff . But absolutely love the motorcycle

What is the part number of the shocks? Looking up Stilettos I'm finding only Harley compatible? Where do I order?
Definitely will do those suspensions and a bar riser I’m a pretty tall rider
Did you do them? How does it ride now? Thanks, 6.4 here.
In case anyone wondered, it works just as sweet on the 500
Hey there, I would love to see how Nina fits on the bike now with the added height, as a inseam challenged rider I would love to see before I add these to my bike. Thanks in advance!
Could it be out there, black stainless for those bolts that broke off. For the H rebel
Great video! Anybody found upgraded better quality Shock bolts ?
I had the same issue with Honda's bolts. I had to replace the right fender subframe piece because the forward bolt decided to twist off. Then, the extractor siezed in the bolt. Completely wrecked.
Was it a air noise when compressed that made you send it back? Mine makes a air compression size when sat on and I just installed it.
A little grease inside those adapter collars would be good to prevent squeaks and rust.
most dealers will replace those sort of bolts with new when performing any work like this, generally the bolts weaken after being tightened even just once so they aren't as strong the second time round (source; me, I work at a car dealership)
One time torque to yield bolts, common on German made cars.
Is the #B28-1251?? I got a supplier inferring they won’t fit the 1100! Says they only fit the Harley.
B28-1255
Correction B28-1254
Where in Maryland are you? I'd like to measure your previous shock springs.
KLR is the opposite. The threads are made of Zamac. Maybe you could find better bolts than factory at Lowes?
you know you love MX when at 18:17 you see an opportunity and not an obstacle XD
Hahah exactly! 😂🤘🏻
Makes me wonder if those bolts are torque to yield and need to be replaced after each tightening.
It doesn’t say that they are, but who knows. They’re cheap enough that if I were to do this again I’d probably get all new ones just to be safe.
@@LifeOfBurch You SHOULD put all new ones on all 4 plus new ones that you took off of Nina's on her bike too.
How was the freeway driving with the rear of the bike higher, including with a passenger?
Do you have any review of the burly front fork springs you were referring to in the video?
Hey Burch those make your bike pop brother!
How does thd length of thd new shocks affect the usage of a centre stand?
8 months and no answer? I just asked the same question for the T-Racing centerstand?
I guess I might not get an answer.
Just curious, Why don`t you purchase a few upgraded bolts at the hardware store? Why use soft hardware? Purchase a stabilizer bar for your fork and your wobble will disappear. JMHO
Looks great! What bit did you use to back out the bolt on the right?
i wish there were after market bolts for the shocks
Welcome to Honda Cheese bolts. Everytime you plan to takea bolt off toss it and replace with new bolts from a bolt shop
Why order shifty honda bolts again?
good thing you didn't give us link to the shocks shop page...
Wow that was a good review.
Deposit pid for mine. I am wondering if I just do the upgrade from the get go.
I just took on a large project with an 05 VTX 1300. Firts bike and Im hacking it up.Do you know any local mechanics that are good with carbs?
Hi Burch, love your videos. Do you know if I could use the 12.5 instead of the 13"?
That's what thought! Should fit better and still have way more travel than stock. Did you try them?
Hey Burch, did you do a follow-up on this? I wonder if you feel like this is a significant improvement long term? :)
@@LifeOfBurch Awesome. Thanks :) I'll see how much they want for shipping it all the way to me ;)
@@LifeOfBurch Alright, I ordered them. They're out of stock currently so it's gonna be until end of July with shipping from the States and all :)
What is the range of that torq wrench? 👀
If the shocks raise the rear end, doesn't that change the front geometry changing the handling
It would sure seem that the handling would be significantly different from what Honda designed it to be.
Interesting, thanks for the information
What are those saddle bags?
Great video! Would love a shock upgrade. I’ve got a 500 but really don’t want to increase the seat height. The Mustang seat already added about an inch. I’m 5’1 and need every inch that I can get. Any suggestions on shocks?
Thanks! I think Ohlins makes shocks for the 500, but they’re pricey. I’m going to take my stock shocks and put them in my girlfriend’s Rebel 300, so maybe you could try finding used 1100 shocks once someone upgrades theirs? Should be a direct fit and I’m assuming same height.
@@LifeOfBurch The Ohlins are shockingly expensive (pun intended) but definitely a good option!
@LifeOfBurch did your stock 1100 shocks fit on the 300
Hey Burch, I'm bottoming out on my 1100 stock shocks. Wondering if you have any idea how much extra weight it would take to bottom out the Stilettos? I'm 200lb with all my gear on. Would like the extra seat height but considering YSS shocks with a heavier spring but not much more travel or height. Thoughts please.
Add 5 clicks more preload on your rear shocks and it should be in the ball park, less bottoming.
Do you have a promo code for Burly Brand? I just got a Rebel and would love to deck it out in Burly Brand parts.
Do you know anyone who has tried the burly brand fork springs kit as well?
I am concern that it wont look that cool any more. I want to see it without bags
For cmx 500 20221 compatible?
Great stuff bro! Just found your channel 🤘🤘
Thanks dude!! Stoked to have you along for the ride! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Little bit of a stupid question, but would these fit onto a rebel 500? And how would I check if shocks fit my bike
I’m gonna be putting my stock 1100 suspension on my girlfriend’s 300 soon though, so if those are a direct swap then we’ll know the stilettos are as well!
nice bike great information
So, on what setting of the preload have you settled on?
Sorry, he's too impotent to talk to you.
Most bolts, screws etc. are now made of chinezium. Thats why they keep stripping out and breaking.
Hey Burch! Are you selling the oem rear shocks??
As of now, the plan is to throw them on Nina's Rebel 300! I'll let you know if that plan changes though!
Nice install video. One click at a time
Thanks Andy! 🙏🏻
22:00 but the stuck chocks are way way better looking. To bad they are to stiff . I just bought a 2022 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT and the stupid seat is so freaking stiff I hate it and suspension is stiff . But absolutely love the motorcycle
Should just replace those bolts with titanium ones or SS if you can
