In Australia all rebels come Standard with the passenger seat already attached to the bike to meet Australian Design Rules. It can be removed later if the rider desires, but in order to be registered as a bike that can take a pillion the bike has to be sold already set-up that way.
Couple of points that I came across when installing the kit on an 1100T. 1. The attached screw on the right side peg is not the same diameter as the nut/screw that's already there. You need to get a smaller diameter nut 2. My bike did not have the rubber dampener that Burch mentioned came on the stock edition. Had to add a spacer 3. I also had a screw that was tightened by Thor himself. But instead of fighting it, I sprayed some wd-40, left it alone for 5 minutes and it came right out. Thanks for the video!
Got my seat and backrest the week of the 4th. Loved cruising. Only thing I can say is I can't wait for third party parts to become more available. The wife wanted a wider seat, and I don't wanna keep waiting on Honda for everything. Enjoy man! Bike looks great! Thanks for the video!
I agree! Aftermarket parts will be a blessing. Check out the Mustang seats though! They just announced roomier/more comfortable seats for the rider and passenger. They’re 8-12 weeks out in production, but if they’re anything like the Mustang seat for the 500, they’ll be super comfortable!
@@johnwicks4936 I've given rides to a few different people and haven't really heard any complaints. It definitely does it's job. I prefer the look as well. That being said, for longer rides over 30 or 45 minutes, a higher rest would be much more comfortable. I don't regret getting the backrest, but I can see that weakness. My main complaint is just the seat. Very narrow. That would be my biggest focus. Good luck mate! Hope this helped!
Thanks for creating the video! I watched several others but yours was the only one that helped me figure out how to fix the left side peg. Thanks again!!!
Thanks for this video. I had the passenger seat and pegs installed by the dealer when I bought my bike, but now I realize I need to be able to use my tail bag more than I need a passenger seat, so I'm going to remove it. Looks like that should be pretty easy!
Mine came scratched and worn pretty much in the same areas. And the mounting bracket had torn through the box. But it took so long to get that I went ahead and installed it and purchased some toutch up paint. It looks almost like new. 👍
Interesting that my dealer offer 2 seater as standard :) and that is what I got ;) thank You for your videos! Watched all of them and got My new 1100 with reg.nr.: GR81 🍻
I had the exact same experience with those stupid screws in the utility box on my 2024 model just the other day. Thor must still work at the factory. Stripped the crap out of the screw on mine also.
Hope to see your update on this with a passenger! Looking far out in future of possibly getting this for chill adventure trips with the wife as she definitely does not like riding on my zx-6r 😂 even with seated grips.
Just learned that most Japanese bikes (and cars, copy machines, etc.) do NOT have Phillips head screws, but instead have JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws which look the same but are slightly different. JIS screw heads may strip or "cam out" with Phillips screw drivers. Don't know for sure that's what happened to in this video, but it's certainly possible. Look for JIS screwdrivers on Amazon.
More comments: Basically the kit that's for the 1100T is totally different than the one for the "normal" 1100. Waaay simpler. No need to take out the battery pan. Part number is: 08R70-MLA-A30ZB
It would probably be pretty slippery as a foot peg, but T-Rex’s frame sliders should theoretically fit where the foot pegs go. Also, Burly Brand is coming out with sliders that mount at the top of the shock next month.
Great video! I just bought my 2021 Honda Rebel 500 ABS (white) yesterday and it’s coming on Wednesday! I sat on the 1100 at my dealership and oh boy was it luxurious! I will stick with my 500 for now since i’m new. lol. Hey, I’ve got a video idea! what if you did a “New tools for beginners” video, as a new rider i’m unsure which tools are needed and which are excessive. Thanks and Ride Safe!
Congrats on your new 500! That’s exciting! As for tools I bring when I’m riding, I only bring what’s already provided under the seat and just hope that’s enough lol as for tools to keep at home to work on the bike, I’d say getting a good socket and wrench set and a nice Allen key set should cover most things you’ll need! You might want to invest in a rear bike stand and a chain brush for chain maintenance too. Bikes are fairly easy to tinker with so you don’t need much!
I was looking to put the carrier rack instead of a seat. but they give a maximum weight of 6-8 lbs. why is that if the seat on the same fender holds another person? same for the one that extends off the back
What is the new model part name that connects to the battery box? I ordered the backseat and footpegs for my rebel 1100 but they didn't come with the replacement part.
Anyone found a good screen for the 1100? In Canada we are lucky we get the passenger seat and pegs with the bike. I’m wondering what the factory batwing will be like but I have the Bordeaux red and the screen only comes in flat black if you can even find one.
Seat looks great! La Pera may be able To match the diamond stitching for your passenger seat. You may have to buy their passenger pillion for them to do a diamond stitch?. Will you purchase a back rest for your passenger? I know they make them for the 500 Rebel. 👍
Pretty interesting that your bike doesn't come with the passenger seat. I'm pretty sure it's the law in the UK for bikes to come with the passenger seat and pegs. This set looks good though! Btw, just bought a rebel 500 partly because of you!
The link you have saved for the passenger seat is not the same as you installed. I purchased a seat based on your recommendation and it’s not exact. Now I am trying to find a fairing that has the indentation for the bracket. Help needed int shows that link is for a 300/500 Rebel, and apparently they don’t need the replacement fairing.
Correct, the Rebel 1100 and Rebel 300/500 passenger kits are totally different. You need the Rebel 1100 specific kit from Honda. Even if you somehow find the indented plastic piece, the kit you have will not mount up. I never said they were cross compatible or said to buy through that link as it’s listed as a 300/500 kit.
I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that it has something to do with other countries’ motorcycle licenses being different than in the US. Like how in the US there’s just one motorcycle license, but other countries have different “levels” that allow you to ride bigger CC’s, ride with passengers, etc. I don’t remember the specifics of it though.
Hey Burch (probably not the best video to post this but don't know if you check previous ones), been following you for a while now and just bought a new Rebel 500, super pleased with a bike expect one thing... It wobbles and shakes like crazy between 50-70km/h if I let go of my hands but if I go to 40 or 80 everything is fine, the bike is brand new not even 300 kms on it and it's super weird. Don't know if you have any clues or tips regarding what it may be but thanks in advance! Cheers from Lisbon, Portugal!
I went to the local Honda Dealer, he only had one 1100 there, an automatic and it had already sold. After watching your videos I wanted to see one in the flesh. It was a little smaller than I thought it would be... (How tall are you?) Obviously I couldn't sit on it or ride it as it had been sold. I also noted that viewing it from the rear, the engine casing was incredibly wide, is that an issue? They had a 500 and it was narrow.
Japanese Industrial Standard! You need to buy JIS screwdriver bits on Amazon so that you don’t destroy you screws. JIS looks like Phillips but it is different.
Never heard of those, I’ll have to look into it. The biggest issue I had was lack of space on the left side. I couldn’t get my first drill to fit in the space without hitting the battery tray. If you look closely, the battery tray was actually pushing down the drill’s trigger before I could apply any pressure, so the drill was inadvertently stripping the bolt without my finger even on the trigger. Super frustrating.
Have you had anybody ride on the passenger seat yet? I also have the two brothers exhaust and was wondering if it interferes with the passengers cuz of the upswept design
Keep checking eBay! They’ll pop up on there every once in awhile. Japan.webike.net is another place that has them in stock occasionally too. If you’re looking for a non-OEM option, T-Rex Racing has an aftermarket passenger seat kit as well, but not sure if they’ve started production yet.
Hey Burch so I got my first chance to sit on the 1100 and it’s going to be a no for me! I know you are taller than I am but I am 5’6” with a 29” in seam so I can flat foot but my legs feel cramped at the knees so I am not sure how you deal with it unless you are cramped and just deal with it? And comment on the combined weight capacity the bike is designed to support riding 2 up, and any suspension adjustments needed. Finally, speak to how the bike's handling characteristics changed (if at all) while riding 2 up!
