James thanks for the comparison I just ordered the new 710's. I turned 80 years old and have been playing ping clubs for 20 years love them and love watching your videos ,thanks!
For a better comparison I would have tested the 7i Blueprint against the 8i G710 as those two clubs have virtually the same loft and the shaft length would have been closer. Before looking at numbers my guess of the carry difference between the irons is going to be a full 20-22 yards - the loft difference is equivalent to a full club so that is 12 yards, then add in effect of vastly lower spin and extra shaft length and you get to 20-22 yards
My biggest problem with the 710 is the black coating. I am afraid that the coating will wear off and the clubs will look worn ratrher quickly. If they were offered on a chrome finish I might consider them.
I got fitted for the 790s, got a call back that they canceled the order because Tmade was no longer making that generation in a lefty. So I tried the i500s. Fell in love. Got them in retro lofts. Switched to Mizuno MP-20 MB SEL. Can’t wait to play again. +2 handicap
@@Ethan2217_- I got the i500's as they were so consistent and look fab. Am the most frustrated 27 handicap as I know I should be around 16 but have the occasional blow up..!!
You've made me feel better James, I hit the blueprint when I was in the studio ( it was left on the sofa) and I just couldn't get on with it, made me love my p790s a lot 😂
Tested the G710s this year and really liked them. Really nice clubs. Didn't mishit a shot on test but every so often, caught a complete flier which was about 15 yards further and scared me a bit for the course! They looked fantastic too, although did have slight concerns about them scratching/scuffing, and for that price.... In the end, went for some Titleist T200 irons and no regrets so far (but barely played due to course closures!)
Last year I tried out the G700 and G710 and the G700's were much easier for this mid handicapper to control and gave an average of about 6 yards advantage G700 for each club I tried. Love my G700's. Good video James. 👍🏌️♀️
I wonder when manufacturers will drop calling clubs by numbers like 7 iron & call it my 33° because the loft is really what are talking about for distances along with shaft length. I'm going to start a one man crusade on this point. Btw, on wedges my idea has already taken off because it makes sense.
So many reviewers hit these SGI clubs so well and comment on how easy they are to hit, but then always have some sort of reason how they aren't for them and for a totally different golfer demographic lol
@@CosmicApe Yeah, it's borderline embarrassing. They go out there and shoot 95 with their blades and blueprints yet their pride doesn't allow them to check their ego at the door. The game is difficult enough without making it even more difficult with equipment that doesn't help as much as you need. I am a reasonably low handicapper (+1.7) and just couldn't bring myself to play these things.

Not playing my G700s much lately, but thinking about trading them for the G710 after trying them while paired with someone who had them. He had them with the ascending weight graphite shafts, and I took a swing with the wedge, and hit it dead on line at the flag, six inches short of the hole. Surprising, since I've tended to pull-left the shorter clubs of the G700 set.
@matt becham The short irons of the G700 look to have a bit more offset than the short irons of the 710s. Perhaps it's just an optical illusion of the black finish. I'll try to compare specs at the PING website.
@matt becham Thanks for pointing that out. I corrected it. Was actually on my out to make my tee time when I watched this video and did a rush-job on the comment.
I managed to get a 201 yards carry on the Ping G710 7 iron on Trackman...my mind was blown....I usually carry around 170ish with my Ping G-series 7 iron...the change in loft coupled with the new tech from the G-series to the G710 is insane. Do you really need to hit a 7 iron that far? I'm just an average golfer, currently a 20 H/C, although I should work to get it down lower.
Good stuff Mr. Robinson but is 4500 spin low for the loft on the G710? I bet if you hit a few with a Blueprint iron with a matching loft it may produce similar numbers.
Blueprint irons are sexy I personally hit Blueprint irons the best at Gainsborough but out my price range so went for 5-pw iblade i500 4iron and glide 3.0 wedges not had chance to use them properly yet though due to lockdown

The blueprints are a wonderful feeling club when hit solidly but as you said, no margin for error. I recently gave up my blades as it seemed silly with all that is available today. I do miss them, but when I hit the one bad one on occasion that ends up in a reasonable position, all is good. You don’t use a persimmon driver do you? lol Thanks for the video.

You're making claims unsupported by data. From the actual data I've seen the dispersion front/back & left/right is tighter with more bladed clubs on average. This makes sense from a physics perspective. If you have a springy face as all of these current GI and SGI clubs do and you don't hit the middle, you lose the spring effect and lots of distance. With players clubs you're not hitting a thin and springy face, it's much thicker and more solid so you get more consistent distance across the face. Players clubs are shorter but more accurate. So your question really is, do I need another 20 yards based on the number at the bottom of the club or do I need to hit more greens, avoid more hazards and get closer to the pin?

Time to stop being silly. Why compare a club that goes 158 to a club that goes 188. Compare 2 clubs that go 158, did they hit target, did they stop? You are not going to grab a 7i from 158 on the course and rip it 30yds over the green because it has a 7 on the bottom.
You still get to say this set I used an 8iron but in this set I had to hit a 6 iron to get it there. You still get that distance comparison your looking for.

Love the Blueprints but holy cow they must think they’re made of gold and diamonds.
Given the lofts that G710's almost a five iron.
Surely you should have gone 8iron on g710 against the 7 blueprint
imagine being capable to hit the blueprints they are sooooo bladey
Soft butter like feel.... steel isn’t soft.
Why do good looking irons always have a con? Too hard to hit, too clicky, too much offset. Mizuno has come the closest with the HMB's at least.
Captain COMMERCIAL!!! Getting tough to watch
You still get that distance comparison your looking for.
the blue dot on the blueprint is not the right lie angle for you.
Lol. 😂. Compare The spinn with your 180 yard blueprint iron instead......
That would be a more accurate test.
Agreed, not to mention how much easier the 7 iron 710 would be than the 6 or even 5 iron blueprint to get to that distance.
a 4 iron against a 7 iron. yep the 4 iron that is stamped as a 7 iron is longer
Lol
I don't like black clubs. The Blueprint is gorgeous but probably not right for my skill level.
G710s look way better bud
22 yards
Spelling error in description 😉 but as always great content!
Difference will be 20 yards
stronger lofts..!!! no a fair comparison
My 8 forged goes just about the same as my mmc 7 iron
Thanks James.... I tried the blueprints, G410s and i500’s.... went with the i210s - great irons that are forgiving (most of the time) and feel great! Maybe soon my game will be good enough for the blueprints...
I hit the blue print i flushed them all but knew that there would always be a shocker coming
Yeah first
Swing looks painful
