Tree Cot Shelter For Camping Or Survival

- #bushcraft #camping In the summer time, elevated shelters are the way to go for bushcrafters, campers and even survivalists. During summer camping the ground is littered with ticks, ants, spiders, scorpions and often times snakes. Hammocks work but they aren't very roomy. Tents work but if you're near a creek or in a swamp they often get wet of flooded out. Theres just something extra fun about taking a bunch of unrelated components like rope, a tarp, a bug net and what ever else and building a shelter custom fit to the trees you find in the wilderness.
Hey David,I’m one of them old dudes(79)that watches your channel. And yes we go along on these adventures with you and love it. Thank you so much for all that you do,and You and Nick please keep on doing it.
I'm on u side,we'll walk with Dave no matter how far apart we are !
Fantastic to hear that Randy! We will bring a little outdoors to you as long as y'all keep watching!
Thanks!
awsome super comfy.
Dave, it's hard to believe this is legal. You're so relaxing, and you really know your stuff. Thanks for taking us along.
My favorite 💞 was a jungle hammock with a 4 inch foam rubber pad incerted , and ridge line and tarp down near the river where it's cool ❄️ in the morning , all kinds of Cridders coming by
Oh Ive got a jungle hammock and I know what you mean!
Finally the first person I have seen mention snakes on YT, snakes are always my biggest concern when camping… I’ve heard too many stories about people awaking to find a rattler or copper head cuddling with em… that off the ground sleeping is vital for me 😭
Oh I hear ya! The chances of a snake cuddling up with you are very very low when off the ground like this. Thanks for watching
Hey HO, Dave! Thanks for the shoutout to us older f@£¥s who vicariously enjoy yer vids, you've triggered MORE fond memories of my car camp adventures!
Once while visiting a sister in Charleston, I drove up to Pawley's I. & picked up a "famous" rope hammock! It was perfect for late Spring thru early Fall use, here in AR. Heavy and bulky didn't matter, we had the trunk AND a car top carrier!
The kids NEVER really got into the wild side, but cars and tents and bath-houses were just the ticket, and I spent many nights suspended.
That said, your build this week will be just the thing for anybody on a budget, and appears quite readily do-able! As you say, South of Mason & Dixon's Line, it's the BUGS! that make outdoors enjoyment so difficult! Over past vids, you've helped tremendously with that aspect, 'cuz most of us HATE DEET...,
SO, thanks much and happy trails as always,
RRC - 😀👍❤️❗️
Hello Roy and Im glad you liked it. Ive got two of those rope hammocks and used them quite a bit! People on UA-cam hate them for some reason so I never show it. And I do hate DEET! Thanks for watching
I love how you say the rope is too heavy now that you're "old", and every time you make one of these videos, you've got like nine hundred pounds of gear, lol Started watching way back when, have always enjoyed your rope shelters, this is a definite yes as well. Thanks, take care, be well
Lol! Ah well a lot of it is viewers complaining and crying about all the weight I carry. I can handle it but Ive tried to go lighter to keep people from complaining. Any rope is useful and is a must carry for me. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Gigi!
Looks very cozy. Very stealthy as well.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Wrapped in camo its really stealthy!
Thank you so much for all the stuff you teach us and i have learned so much during the years of your videos. Really appreciated it is and thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks! And a big thank you for all the years of comments views and support!
I woke up to brilliance. You, sir.. are a poet!
Thank you Marcus!
Dave, Lewis & Clark would have loved having had you as part of their company. I recently finished listening to a EPUB of the company of discovery. One thing that drove the entire company bonkers was being eaten alive constantly by mosquitoes. What they would have given for a bug net covering their tents at night just to be able to get a good nights sleep. A really big compression style hat with a bug net over it going inside of the shirt too. I mean it really took some effort and real dedication to eat mosquitoes for two years straight.
Yep, and the modern way is to cover with bug spray. I hate that stuff. You have to reapply often, it gets sticky when you sweat and sometimes gets in your eyes. Bug nets and bug hats are so much better! Thanks for watching John
If I ever there’s some kind of Calamity, this is a great shelter
Thanks!
You can always add a waterproof tarp canopy over the mosquito net and you’re good to go!
Keep watching, youll see one in this video!
Brilliant idea for keeping yourself off the ground & being able to sleep on a relatively flat surface. I'll try to make one. If you had crossed the webbing into a lattice you could probably do without the rope underneath.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Crossing that webbing would be nice but at some points you would have to sew through 4 layers of webbing along with two layers of canvas. My machine will not do that. Thanks for watching John
Another creative idea, great watching your mind work
Thanks, Im glad you liked it!
Excellent, I also enjoy your videos. Thank you!
Fantastic to hear that Ken!
The amazing mind of David Pearson strikes again and creates an interesting and entertaining video. For those of us who can't seem to create, it gives up an opportunity to edit what he's done to make it appropriate for our own use. Thanks again, Dave.
Exactly! Watch what I do and make it fit your needs. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching George
Great video brings back memories when I was a kid in north Indiana we did some thing like that used more wood iam 77 and use the things you dhow us thanks for sharing
Ah the memories! Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching David
Absolutely brilliant Dave! I really like the design. Not the fastest shelter to erect during inclement weather, but if it's fair weather, the design is awesome! Thanks for sharing with us all and be well Brother! 🔥
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it brother. For a good nights sleep in hot weather this is the way to go! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching brother
Soon ill be moving back to the country where i used to live. In a valley in between the Blue Ridge and Appalacian mnts. Dave you already got me thinkin on a modified version of that shelter for me and my dog. I already have one i made for me, but now i got my baby girl rottie i gotta make room for. Great Video again!
Sounds great John! This would definitely be a good way to go for more than one. I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching
Oh Yeah Great Way To Stay Above Them Creepy Crawley's ! Loved This Shared Set Up, Thanks Davey Have A Great Weekend ! Hay Nick ! ATB T God Bless
Thank you Terry! We are glad you liked it. Have a great weekend, thanks for watching and may God bless you too brother
Dave, you have an unending number of ideas. I really enjoy watching you create all these shelters and things! Thank you for taking the time and effort to share all of this with your viewers. Keep on keepin' on!
I'm glad you liked it and I've got a whole notebook full of ideas! Thanks for watching Joseph
I am reminded of one of your stretcher cot setups. I would use some wooden rails to run through the loops (since I do not know how to keep that much cordage neat!) I LIKE the sturdy sewing and design of this cot.
I did a few in the past with logs ran through but I was trying out this as a rope set up only so I wouldn't have to deal with finding logs or cutting down trees. Thanks for watching James
@@Reallybigmonkey1 The rope 'X-Suspension system was fine! If ever I have the chance to do this, I will use it and add slender poles as might seem wise at the time.
It's a good day when I wake up to find a Dave video. Love the bushcraft Pack and Play😂. I really like that it's more like a platform than a hammock. It's always a luxury to get off the ground. Thanks Dave!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Oh yes, definitely more like a platform/bed and can be made larger if necessary. Thanks for watching
If the stuff ever does hit the fan, Dave won’t be surviving. He will be thriving.
I hope so!
Yay! Another great vidya from Dave! Love that set-up. Now I have to find a supplier of Attwood rope here in NZ...
I'm glad you liked it Mike! I'm guessing just online search for "Attwood 1/4 camo rope " thanks for watching brother
Excellent Video, Dave. 👍👍
Thanks!
This reminds me of the very first video of yours I ever saw. It was the tarp bunk shelter where the tarp made the bunk, back wall and roof. Your dad filmed it. I subscribed right then and bought an Ontario Spec 8 machete based on that video. I have lots of Rothco 3/8’’ rope, multiple ‘’mosquito, bar.’’ nets (found out bar. was just short for barrier) and other Ontario machetes based on your videos. I turned 65 yesterday so I’m fast approaching the age of those viewers who live vicariously through your adventures. I just wish I had known all these things when I was a kid. My shelters would have been awesome! Keep bringing us more ideas Dave. Take care and say hello to Nick!
Ah the good ole Tarp Bunk shelter. Thats a good one but it and several others depended on me either finding logs or cutting trees down. I started getting into set ups like this where I didnt have to deal with any logs. Whatever I needed was in my pack. Thats extremely important when in a swamp! Thanks for all the years of views and Thanks for watching Steve
Another great idea Dave. Your right, as usual, warmer weather just sleeping on the ground aint much fun.
A tent is ok. A hammock is better. But your contribution would be better than a hammock.
The older I get the "older hammock style is not very comfortable. The newer styles allow a sleeping ad that lets you lay a little flatter, more comfortable.
I like your idea a lot, not a lot of drawbacks, as long as there are trees in the proper spots, but hammocks have the same issue and must be bigger.
Keep the noggin working and coming up with more great ideas.
Hope to see you and Nick back in the "wilderness " again soon. God bless yall and stay safe on your travels.
Thanks Brian, Im glad you liked it. Yep, nothing wrong with tents or hammocks but, this is as close to sleeping on a real bed as I have found. Especially out in the woods! Thanks for watching and may God bless you too!
Nature is my happy place. I feel stressed when I'm cooped up for a bit. I agree, enjoy the outdoors while we still can. Thank you for another great video (and all the work behind the scenes). -Hollie
Very well said! We all need some outdoors to unwind. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Hollie
Dave that is the most comfortable best cot you ever made. It’s better than sleeping on the hard ground. I enjoy so much watching your videos tutorials and your ingenuity always coming up with great ideas! Please never stop I enjoy each and every video!
Thanks, Im glad you liked it! It is absolutely a very comfortable sleep! . Thanks for watching
Well well well...well DONE. I have struggled with the idea of a hammock for a decade with my disability trying to figure out how to not put myself in a hospital getting in and out of the things😆 THIS I could really "get into"😆
I'm glad you liked it! It's definitely very easy to get in and out of. Thanks for watching
Another grate video and I am one of those old dudes 67 I still go out just not as often or far love to watch
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! Absolutely go out any chance you can!
You can call it DaFL"H = Dave Forest Luxuries Hotel - Shelter of Kings - Thank you so much for the great video - Wonderful weekend to you dear friend 🌲🌲🌲
Lol, I like that name! Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching and a happy weekend to you too Ofer!
Thank you for the video. I always learn lots of good ideas from you. And enjoy watching too
You are very welcome Lee and Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video Dave. That cot looks cool. 👍
Thanks Ian, I'm glad you liked it brother.
My first thought was that it would be easier to just put up a hammock. But wow! Your set up looks way more comfortable. Great work!
Oh no doubt hanging a hammock is a lot easier. This way is way more comfortable tho. Thanks for watching Jim.
No matter how miserable my day is, Dave’s videos and his energy always cheers me up! Thank you for your warmth and magic Dave.
Fantastic to hear that my friend!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 🙏🏻
You are officially the undisputed master of ropework buddy! I absolutely love that tree cot man... it looks so comfy! And that entire shelter is just plain ol' awesome! Great job as always 👍 Couldn't agree more with what you said at the end of the video by the way... get out and enjoy the outdoors while you can 👍 Thanks for another great (and fun) video my Brother!
Thanks Brother John, Im glad you liked it. man this is as close to sleeping on a bed without actually sleeping in a bed! Probably the way to go with any back issues. Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Absolutely my pleasure Brother! I sure do like the sound of that... getting a good nights sleep in the woods without waking up with a sore back 👍
Cool. That hammock looks heavy duty enough to put a little el cheapo backpacking tent right on top of it.
Great idea! Now that would be very easy. I'll have to try that
Great to see a British Army BASHA feature in one of your set ups. Quite simply the best bit of kit to have in your arsenal! Hope to see you using it for a hammock one day as well as a shelter tarp! A very versatile design with countless ways to use!
Im glad you liked it and yes, its a fantastic piece of gear! I used it a couple of previous videos. I dont use it often because its so rare its probably irreplaceable! Thanks for watching David
Boy, I thought had seen all your shelters. I like seeing your bug net techniques. Best wishes from Kansas...Christmas in June...beat you, July. Hi Nick!
Loll, man I still have a few unknown tricks up my sleeve! Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Brother
As always a great idea. I know it would be a lot of work , bur run the loops side to side and end to end, and sew to canvas. That way the straps would hold most of the weight. Just a thought. Thanks for taking us to the woods with you. Stay safe , dont let big foot get you.
I did that in a previous version and it held but was actually uncomfortable because the webbing didn't give. I'm depending on the sewing on this version but the center cloth section is allowed to stretch and is more comfortable.
Tree cot almost sounds like a camo pattern 🤣, neat as always and you should be able to find bug netting online pretty cheap. Then you could make it a little easier I think without having the fitment issues from using cot bug nets, I was able to find a double cot net so its like two in one lol and I really like it cuz you just have more room. Cool as always and thank you for showing! Take care and have a good weekend!
Thanks and I'm glad you liked it! A double cot net? I never heard of that but I'd love to have one! My camo mesh might just keep bugs out but I probably still need to buy some large bug netting. Thanks for watching brother
awesome sauce...rivals the expensive AMOK hammock, only better, imo. :) You sure put the work into the sewing! Competes with "sleeve beds".
Thanks, Im glad you liked it! A lot cheaper and easily adjustable towards any spacing of trees! Thanks for watching
Dave, at 72 and living in South Korea I do not live vicariously thru your videos. I learn from them, and from a Southern Boy who lives his life as he should. I was stationed in Florida from 1982 to 1991 with the US Navy. Please keep teaching and being your self. God Speed, Regards Swamper
Thanks for the comments and fantastic to hear that Swamper!
That is high class camping! Great job on the sewing, also!
Thank you my friend!
Neat set up Dave. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Brian!
looks super cozy. After the video you probably had a nice nap.
Oh absolutely! Very cozy!
I like it, Dave. The color hides it very well.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it
My top 3 shelters I've seen you make
Fantastic to hear that Dwayne!
I really miss camping but I am one the watchers who has become differently abled person and no longer a "TAB" temporarily abled.body. Anyway i get to live through your videos. Thanks 4 sharing!
Well I'm glad I can bring a little of the outdoors to you! Take care and thanks for watching my friend
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Thanks Dave. I really do look forward to your videos.
nice its like a jungle tent but i could see with some gear it being a 4 season hanging shelter. i like the thing you built it also could be used for carrying wounded Also if you lashed it down to 2 sticks could use it to drag stuff. should mass produce that thing
I'm glad you liked it and you have some good ideas! Instead of a bug net I could wrap it with a wind proof tarp.
Always great to see you Dave!
Always great to hear from you John!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 :))
Great job Dave always enjoy watching your videos
Thanks, I'm glad you like them!
Gives me peace of mind . We spent 9 weeks at a time in the woods in the Army. 2 man tent if it rained. This takes me back.
9 weeks is quite a long time to be out there! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching Larry
Hi, Dave. Off the ground is always better for me. Great video and ideas, as usual 🙂
Oh I can agree! Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Dave that looks so comfortable!!
i am going to make one. i do not like tents or
hammocks, i am a big guy ( 6,5) pushing 60, in and out a tent is no fun.
and a hammocks not for me.
but that there could bring back some fun in overnighting.
make it high enough so i can sit on it, and then lay down.
thanks for this great vid.
looking forward to the next.
Oh its super comfortable and you hit it on the head! This puts the fun right back into camping! Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Brings back memories of when I was a kid, building a fort in the woods. And when I finished, I had to show all my friends, cuz I was so proud 👍👍
Ah the memories! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching Jeremy!
Brother Dave! Absolutely love this setup. Have an awesome weekend my Friend, Thumbs up video~John
Thank you Brother John! I'm glad you liked it and I hope you have a great weekend too!
Great idea 💡 we have a lot of snakes where I live and you don’t want to sleep 💤 on the ground because they like to cuddle.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Snakes love to cuddle up in sleeping bags around here! Thanks for watching
Chef Dave! Chef Dave! We need a Chef Dave episode!
If all goes well the next video will be Chef Daves Crab and Shrimp sauce with wild rice!
Wonderful video Dave! Always enjoy seeing your new ideas. That looks very comfortable to sleep on! Thanks again, hope you enjoyed a great nights sleep.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it and Thanks for watching
I live vicariously through you because of health issues. I’ve learned a lot from you too. Thanks bro!! 🤙🏼
Im glad I can bring a little of the outdoors home to you Anthony! Thanks for watching
Interesting! Loved it. Already I have a tweak especially fer the folks that live in colder climes. Add a layer of insulation. Because any breeze blowing underneath will give you a cold butt. I learn't that from hammock camping. You could use whatever but get something there to cut off the under draft, And while on the subject of winds... Tension is a problem to consider. Let's be honest, trees sway in the wind. And that can mess up any suspension. The trees do move independently and that can mess up any anchor point as well as affecting the tension of yer shelter. Personally I don't use knots but toggles which can be adjusted as needed.
But I do agree with you, get out there and have fun! It's best to be prepared, even on a budget. Improvise, or make do with what you have, but get out there.
And as a historical note, Dave's rope bed is exactly what our descendants did before we got box spring mattresses. Hi Dave :) Looking forward to another 10+ years of content.
Thanks and I'm glad you liked it! In cooler weather not only can you add insulation but you can ditch the bug net and wrap the whole thing in a wind proof tarp. Tree movement is often minor, if it's really major winds I'll stay out of the forest! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Great to see you again Dave. I look forward to your videos! Out of all your rope beds, which all are inventive, I think this is one of your best ones yet! Thanks brother and take care!
Always great to hear from you Brett and Im glad you liked it that much! This is definitely the most comfortable.. Thanks for watching Brother
Thanks for some more great ideas , especially getting up off the ground and having a roof over your head plus a bug net.Your videos are always a mydt watch for me especially on the friday mornings coffee with Dave.Well you did a great job and all this work has made me realize that its nap time already lol. Thanks again and we will see you in the next one.Gave a great week.
You are very welcome Dennis and I'm glad you liked it! Enjoy the coffee and enjoy the weekend Brother!
Thank you David... I Do indeed live Vicariously through you and your Adventures.
Keep em coming.
Fantastic to hear that Jerome and lots more to come!
great stuff David. when i was a kid, the guys and i would have almost killed for rope and a hammock and netting. we still went camping and just dealt with it. now-a-days i have 2 hammock camps and one just a tarp that have been set up a while. i stayed away from one hammock and a nest got started on the ridgeline but ended up hanging on the hammock. i looked in 3 days ago and there were several little bird heads waiting for food.
Carolina Wren babies.
Thanks David, I'm glad you liked it. Oh man I hear ya. It's nice to be able to leave a set up in the woods but often times critters do take over when you're not around. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching brother
Dave has once again, taken bushcraft comfort to a whole new level! Well worth the time spent within it's creation. More time might have been spent finding the four trees, than you used in setting up the shelter? Not only do you look comfy, but also happy that it came out according to your engineered design. Brilliant concept, and i had fun watching your joy when it all worked out perfectly.
Thank you, Dave. Stay lifted and enjoy your weeks end!
Im glad you liked it and you are correct! Sometimes you stumble onto some perfect trees and sometimes you hunt for hours! The set up is fun and very comfy tho. Thanks for watching and you have a great weekend too!
Nice cot. That's awesome. -nothing like a good night's sleep...
Oh absolutely! It's as comfortable as any bed. Thanks for watching brother
I believe that you have outdone yourself this time. Excellent video. Love it.
Thanks David! I'm glad you liked it that much!
Hey great video here is a bushcraft diy for the older people that can't bend down as well as younger people find a small satellite dish and drill a nail sized hole in each end and then cut two 4 foot long stakes and make points on one end of each stake nail them both into the ground about a foot and half almost as wide as the dish and place the dish on top of the stakes and nail the dish on top of the stakes, I call it the high fire pit or you can use just two cinder blocks standing on end and place the dish on top of them close to the width of the dish
Very cool idea Kenneth
Hey Dave, when you were in the tent, you looked like a nap was next 😊
Lol, I always nap after filming! Thanks for watching
Great set-up and another type of "off the ground" sleeping arrangement. You are always thinking and come up with great ideas Dave. Thanks for sharing and providing detail setup
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it and I'm always happy to share this stuff!
I’m all in favour of vicarious adventuring! In fact it’s one of the greatest things about YT. I would never have found your channel were it not for breaking my shoulder in 2019 and spending hours watching “Outdoor You Tube” to stave off the pain, the boredom, and the frustration at not being able to get out and do stuff. I watched everything from long distance hikers to wild campers, urban explorers to bush crafters, and there were always appreciative comments from people who were physically unable to get out exploring, hiking or camping. I am lucky enough to be only temporarily confined by illness or injury but I spend as much time as I can outdoors because I know that while you’re never too old (mentally) to go play in the woods, at some point your body is going to decide otherwise.
I'm glad I was one of those that helped you pass the time! And even better you'll be getting back out there! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching my friend!
🌿🙂Excellent presentation of a ingenius shelter for Summertime👍
Thanks, Im glad you liked it!
Another great set up!
Thanks!
Great shelter Dave! Thanks for sharing this with us. 😁👍
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Nice project and I really like the idea of a flat lay. One day, if you haven't already done it, please show how you make your headgear (Bandanna) as I assume it is a recycled vest or other but there seems to be a lot of ties at the back? Thank you.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. My head gear, do rag?bandana is nothing but a large triangle of cloth. I just wrap around my head then tie off in the back! Thanks for watching
Hey Dave good morning, wow the tree shelter/bed really has evolved since your first run at it👏🏾👏🏾 I'm definitely gonna try it🎉 thanks O'g Dave
Good morning AJ and I agree! I used to improvise with just rope and a wrapped around tarp. This bed is way more comfortable and reliable. Thanks for watching
Looks like loads of fun. Thanks Dave. God bless you all.
Oh it was! Thanks for watching and may God bless you too
@@Reallybigmonkey1 ♥️ your work.
The tarp bunk shelter was my favorite and I’ve been waiting for this one. Way too cool and a big thumbs up.
Thanks! That tarp bunk set up is very comfortable but takes more work to set up. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
I always look forward to your videos
Fantastic to hear that my friend
Hey Dave! I have been following you for many years and STILL, every time one of your videos comes up I get excited! That's because you bring joy and FUN to camping and bushcraft. I am
69 yr old woman who loves being outdoors in the woods. I am at my "happy place" right now, my cabin. Nobody else does the interesting, imaginative things you do. By the way, I have a lot of poison ivy this year, what are your gloves called? Thanks for your hard work buddy, it is appreciated.
Thanks and I'm glad you liked it! I wished I had a cabin, maybe after retirement? My gloves are Nomex flight gloves. A military item worn by flight crews. Not only do they ward off poison ivy ticks and mosquitoes but they are flame proof! Good for campfire tending and cooking
Damn Dave. This is not a Franken Cot/ Shelter. This is very well engineered. Love it.
Im glad you liked it. For once it worked just like I designed it to! Thanks for watching
It's a great Friday night, Dave has a new Vid out. TAKE CARE..
Enjoy your Friday and Thanks for watching
Well Dave the things you do brings a smile to my face ive been a hammock man since being bitten by a centipede 3 times over my chest but i like this idea no bugs ???
Thanks, Im glad you liked it Stephen! Ive always hated bugs! Thanks for watching
that is really awesome, Love it! ♥
Thanks, Im glad you liked it that much! Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 what makes it so unique is that every thing you made and used could have duel purposes and it's light weight easy to just have most of it on hand in ones preparedness kit. I have 4 children we got stranded in 1993 in the mountains no tent or any camping gear but i had knowledge and built a large lean-to shelter big enough to have 2 full size blankets laid out inside on 2 feet of pine needles when they were smashed down making it super comfy when sleeping lol... got to have comfort. it even rained an no one got wet. no tarp, i have carried one ever since tho, the kids helped a bunch. they were amazing little ones all 8 and under at the time. i even added a fireplace inside to keep them warm at night and to cook on. dug a pit inside lined with rocks and a chimney to make it safer being everything was dry. I always carry blankets and pillows water and food when traveling so we were warm dry and comfy. I've noticed over the years you like comfort and so do I even when it's not ideal situation. off the ground is better when possible too. even if we have to share the forest and woods with Sasquatch lol
That shelter looks like a whole lot of fun to make, let alone camp in. I can see kids loving camping out in that tent. Summers have just taken off in the fun department and you could also make one in your garden by hammering large stakes into the ground in your square formation and leave it up all summer. We used to camp in our garden all summer, lol. Thanks for another genius idea. Stay well.
Oh it's absolutely fun! Kids love this stuff and with a bugnet it not too hot for summer. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching Kevin
I am sleeping on a temporary bed because of a broken leg. I thought that my bed was uncomfortable, but I wouldn’t trade mine for yours. I do respect your never ending resourcefulness.
Thanks for watching
Excellent!
Thank you.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Hi Dave! Another great makeshift shelter demo video. You've got my vote for the "father of invention". It appears you got all the essentials covered. Thank you again for sharing your experience and knowledge!
Hello and thanks! I'm glad you liked it and I absolutely love creating this stuff! Thanks for watching
Very cool, thank you brother.
Thanks Bro, I'm glad you liked it
Dave, The folks coming up to do the Alone series need to see this video. They’re always complaining about the lack of flat ground being available to set up a camp. A lot of Vancouver island is considered a rainforest anyway and when you’re in the rainforest, you don’t sleep on the ground
Any time you have uneven ground, put your shelter in the trees! Even without cordage you can notch all the joints in the wood and make a good set up.
Nice setup Dave. It reminds me of the summer shelter you made several years ago with the bug net hanging from the ridge line. Anyway, this shelter also reminded me of a project I started to semi-copy the high up sleeping platform you made (with Nick?).
For the roof supports I thought your carabiner bungie cords would work well and not risk ripping your basher.
Thanks for sharing, see you in two weeks back on the Tube😂
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. They say up North an axe is a requirement. Down south in the summer a bug net is a requirement so I wind up using one in almost every summer shelter! Im thinking since theres no wood used and its all rope this set up sways and gives but paracord is probably a good idea. Thanks for watching
Love your videos Dave🙂
Thanks! I'm glad you like them!
You are MacGyver in the forest. One of the Best channel on UA-cam.
Thank you my friend! I love making my own gear
I love these vids. I rarely have the time/energy to make it out to the woods these days, but watching these vids scratches that itch!
Thanks Shayne and thats fantastic to hear that!
Cool piece of gear Dave
Thanks!
Hi Dave! The potential variations on this rig really do make it usable in any number of situations.
Absolutely! Due to these components it's adjustable towards any trees and can be easily added to.
"Rope 101 with Professor Dave". Very cool Cotham or is it a Hamcot? well it's cool. fun Vid, thanks for the share.
Lol! Very cool names Josh!
