Building A Shelter With My AGAWA Boreal 24

  • Most Bushcrafters and Survivalists carry a folding saw like a Silky Gomboy or a Bahco Laplander. These are fine for crafting but not great for firewood or any large diameter chores. Bow saws are often too bulky to backpack in so this is exactly where a folding bow saw comes in handy! Here Im showing my new AGAWA folding bow saw. Its fairly lightweight, easy to pack in and does excellent on firewood and in some cases felling trees.

Love my 24! I went all out and got the leather sheath with two extra blades and extra pins and locks. Been using it for over a year now with no issues. Pro tip- I added marks in one inch increments along the saw frame just incase I need to cut pieces that are similar sizes.

The Crosscut Saw Company in Marquette Michigan is a great source of information and tools.
They’ve been around since the ‘Homestead’ era post Hippie era.
A wet-softwood blade has RAKERS and GULLETS. Those butterfly looking rakers cut wood fiber and the gullets allow the teeth to sever and push out the chips and wet sap.
There’s a bunch of names just like axes, but these two are pretty much it.-Chris

First of all I really appreciate you pointing out the simple difference in the Saw blades. I think, sometimes so many of us get used to being out in the woods when we’re doing videos, we forget to explain the simple things that really ARE important. I’ve really enjoyed this video not only because I love the outdoors but I also enjoy it when you have your son is behind the camera there’s so much more to it. One of these days, we will have to do a meet up and camp together. No videos just hanging out.

Wanted to find a way to put this before you: one of the best out of all the modern types I’ve found, for roughing cut sharpeners: emery boards, like for nails. No stinkin’ kidding. Good and cheap for small knives! Nothing to do with the vid - plan to watch later! Peace, strength, and honor!

Mine is a silver color with the green handle with the dry wood blade, I also bought the Agawa pouch for it that has a removable leather shoulder strap. Saw weighs next to nothing and so much easier to pack than the old bow saws. Makes life so much easier. Great A-Frame shelter, I remember you making something similar in one of your older videos. Pretty good little folding saw. Many years ago, we had a Sven Saw. For the last couple of decades I’ve carried the What-A-Saw in two of the vehicles. The triangle frame design sort of limits you for size. Seeing you looking at the teeth and rakers on that saw made me want to send you a picture of the crosscut saws I inherited from Dad. Great video Dave and Nick. I was out this weekend for two nights at our remote Witts End primitive camp. We cut a lot of wood with our old style Bow Saws. One my friend made that I bought the other Bruce who was with us made. We needed a good fire for boiling water and to keep warm. It got cold at night. I used a technique I think you used one time bucking and splitting wood as I was cutting. Got 3 pieces of wood out of the one piece I cut. I had a hawk with a flat end for battoning. We cooked up some crayfish we caught in the brook. You guys take care. I’m doing a lot of jaw jacking. 😊

Improvisation is the key to survival. This rapid deployment shelter could easily be camouflaged if needed. Fire just outside the door is not only great for managing in rain and at night, but also added a comfort factor in deterring snakes and crawling creatures from disturbing your sleep. This folding bow saw outperforms the silky and just as easy to carry. Building a shelter is an important survival skill that we seem to have lost over the years. I trust some may become motivated to get outside and try some builds. Practice not only to make perfect but it often helps to give rise to new ideas. Your videos are not only fun but informative too. Thank you both! Stay lifted and enjoy your weeks end.

Hi Dave and Nick! I have been camping since I was about six years old, was in the scouts from 11 to 18, went to Philmont and was elected multiple times to various offices within my troop. Despite all this, I have never even come close to looking half as good as Mors Kochanski while I was in the woods. Camp is nature's workbench for testing all those "game changer" ideas we imagine at three in the morning after watching a military trained and battle-hardened special forces solider demonstrate seemingly god-like skills flawlessly on a UA-cam video! It is a whole lot like making sausage, nothing is easy and always messy. That's why we call it fun in the woods, right? Bless y'all!🔥🔥

A few of us are going to try some simple fun challenges about once a month. It is pretty much the stuff that you are already doing. We'd love to have you or even hear your thoughts.
