My pen name is Cal Kasheau. Hey, I'd like to shamelessly promote my literary accomplishments while I have your attention. I have several short story titles you can get on Amazon; the links are below. Some are humorous, some reflect events in my life, and some are legends I heard of as a child in the swamps of Louisiana. They are only a dollar or two, and most are free with Kindle unlimited membership. I hope you will take the time to read one or two and give me your honest opinion in the comments on whether or not I should continue to pursue a side gig as an author.

Thank you for being you you are so easy to understand you are very calm and you call my husband down and he was actually able to do something because of you thank you thank you thank please post more
Thank you very much. I’m glad I was able to help him. Thanks for watching my videos!
I’m jealous! I always do those laying on the floor with the machine tipped back against the wall. Warranty work puts me in the customer’s home rather than a shop. Great vid!
Thank you!
Keep up the great videos! You are more appreciated than you realize!
Thank you very much!
Very thorough video. Love it.
Thanks for watching!
That was a d*** good video. I'm sick of working for someone else. So i'm gonna try to do what you do
I’m glad I have inspired you. Just remember the famous words of a great teacher, Yoda. “… do or do not, there is no try.” As long as you persevere and never give up you’ll make it. Be sure to check out my other videos while you get started. Thanks for watching!
Very well explained great job thank you very much
Thank you. Thanks for watching too!
I was the viewer referenced at the 6:24 mark. His advice worked successfully for me today in less than 1 minute of holding onto the tub's side and banging. Only differences were that I didn't have a 2 pound hammer and my regular hammer was really too long. Luckily I had an antique weight (window sash?) with a rectangular cross section that weighs about 5 pounds and used that instead. Thanks again and onto the rest of my overhaul of my almost 35 year old Kenmore!
Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Wayne. It never crossed my mind to mention that in other videos and I hope I didn't mislead too many people into thinking they would need a puller every time.
@@HarperandKnowles Drive block came right off just like you hammered it and I just finished cleaning up about a solid 1/4" of gunk from around the whole tub. No rust though! Also amazing is that, on my last load, I checked to see whether the agitator spun while draining and to my amazement it didn't. So I might not need a neutral kit? Haven't gotten underneath yet to pull transmission, etc. but I know the machine is leaking both water (gathers in plastic catch basin underneath) and oil (some has been sprayed onto inside of lower part of shell) so I'm expecting to have to mess with the clutch plus snubbers (plate and base pads), etc. in addition to shaft seals/bearings plus tub seal. Thanks once more for your valuable online appliance service!! One last question: should I think about replacing 35-year old solid rubber hoses or suspension springs? All of these appear to be solid and not leaking from a previous inspection (I don't think you can even buy the whirlpool rubber hoses anymore!?)
My ole man always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Good advice I'd say!
My saying is always,"it's already broken. I don't think I can break it anymore, I might as well try to fix it.
And by the way you're Kool, easy going and you know how to do things and I love how organized your tools are,! way to go buddy+row
Awe, thanks for those kind words. Yes, if you use shadow foam to organize your toolbox you’d be amazed at how much time it saves in the workshop. I learned that in my first career as an aircraft pilot. All the aircraft mechanics do that to their tools and also my son, an industrial engineer, told me how he insist on that in the plants he works in to speed up the manufacturing process.
look at the 13th minute ..I did it...funny but annoying...
Keep up the great videos! Very well explained great job thank you very much...
Ha! Did you do it on purpose just to see? Thanks for watching!
I like your style
Thank you!
Those more modern Whirlpool reducer boxes are repairable, when they only pass water through the seal of the bathtub as in your case. It's just removing rivets, changing bearings, protective ring and tub seal; At least in my country it is still profitable to do that work. Now when water passes through the washing shaft it is not profitable to repair them.
I have seen videos in Spanish where they do that. It is way too labor intensive here for it to be profitable. You’ve got to admire a man that will go to those lengths to fix a gearbox. Thanks for watching!
Another great video Mr. Knowles. Did new suspension rods help stabilize the tub?
Yes, indeed! It turned out to be a great rebuild that sold fast. Thanks for watching!
is an old maytag performa washer worth fixing grinding like bunch coins are sliding around on spin
Absolutely! Fix it up you’ll have a great machine. Thanks for watching!

i can not believe you never changed that 5 dollar seal that always fails and ruins the gearbox
do a correction and show changing the seal while transmission is out
I didn’t have one and wasn’t going to wait for one to come in to finish that video. Besides that one looked almost new and I inspected it well. But you are correct, that should be done if you attempt this job. Thanks for the heads up! Thanks for watching too!
I got one of those washers and the first thing I did was bypass that stupid lid switch
Hmmm, I’d be interested to know how you did that. On account of it being a two part system of a lid lock and lid switch. Everyone I ever saw try it always ended up frying their control board! Thanks for watching!
I actually just take the top piece off of the lid and I put it in manually so I can keep the lid open
Oh, yeah. That works well!
I tried everything today to get the tub out of my washer just bent the hell out of everything with a puller well not everything but I threw it away
Sounds like you had a rough day. Yeah, sometimes those tubs can be challenging. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for looking at my comment and responding, I really appreciate that. I just came across you today, and I really like your videos. Where are you based out of? It's definitely Southern, that's for sure👍
I’m in Louisiana.
I got one the other day and it went so far out of balance it damage the splash guard and also the outer basket.
I see that often. Thanks for watching!
@@HarperandKnowles welcome
Good morning, I have a question on a GE GUD27ESSM1WW machine. I wasn’t able to see this machine running and it was in a state of disassembly when I got it however they are saying the clutch is bad. The clutch on these appears to be a pretty simple arrangement I’m waiting on a gear puller to get at it. My question is what can go wrong with these other than teeth being chewed up since they are plastic.
I wouldn't think you would need a gear puller for this repair. However, if the problem is the clutch then you are correct, they are plastic teeth and can get chewed up. Another problem could be the shifter not functioning correctly. Good luck with your repair and thanks for watching!
The black pulley wheel below the clutch is on there pretty good I couldn’t pry it off. Hence the puller? My question was other than teeth being worn what can go wrong with them? Anything? I did have the mode shifter off and applied 120v to it the motor is working , it rotates the cam shaft very slowly I’m thing just cuz the gear ratio is so low.
I can’t think of anything else that would go wrong unless the splines strip but I’ve never seen that. And you are correct about the gear ratio.
Thanks, the owner told me that the tub was not filling with enough water and when agitating its wasn’t doing the full half rotation either side, she had an appliance repair person look at it and told her it was the clutch. Because it’s a wash centre “stacked” and had been disassembled quite a bit I was hoping I could just go ahead and replace the clutch without have to put it back together to test it. 🙂
