And now he has THE world record. Amazing.
aaand he broke it again with ROOM
zamoo nope, not only indoors.
zamoo hm :/ yeah i might’ve been wrong then but i heard that the rules were changed? someone said if the record was broken it’d count as both the indoor world record and outdoor world record?
@zamoo ... Mondo broke the outdoor record in Rome by his 6,15 m. His indoor record in Polen 6,17 and 6,18 in Scotland. All of those records in 2020!
When I pole vaulted as a kid the world record was always considered the highest outdoor jump. I have to admit I'm not sure how its viewed today, the sport has changed quite a bit, with new venues and types of events beyond traditional meets. He's surpassed both and is certainly amazing to watch. Mondo has a completely different frame from that of Bubka, one wonders how much the physics of the equipment has changed between the two eras.
New world record twice in a week. I guess he is the highest jumper now.
who's here after 6.17m?
wat1243 6.18 m
I have just rewatched the 6.18 jump, he had enough clearance that with the exact same jump he could have done something in the 6.20 to 6.25 range.
Now he seems just like Sergei B in his heydays, adding one cm each time a meet organizer had a world record bonus. :-)
Me..I just cleared it on my Box10 video game.. I am the man!
wat1243 he easily had 8... maybe even 9
6:19 miss with blind catch of falling bar
Well done TODAY Mondo. 6.17 WR. I watched that first, then it was fascinating to watch this. He doesn't seem to muscularly bend the pole, but every part of him knows where the bar is and wraps around it beautifully and quickly. Muscle memory I guess and practising since a young child. I don't know a lot about field sports, but I assume this is considered equal to an outdoor WR. A new era. A new hero.
This aged too well
@@aydenneal1451 and you didnt
Now it was 6:21
Love to see kids like this who started early and still love the sport they chose!
I really like that while pole vaulters are competitors against eachother, they are still so friendly and kind to one another. They look like a big family of pole vaulting.
mark my words, there'll be a movie about this guy one day
"Born to fly" is set to release somewhere this year
6.18 today! Incredible!!!
He did it! The world record is his.
Heer Shah and his again with 6.18 LOL
Arman "Mondo"Duplantis Makes people emotions, like a bird in the sky, flying to the border never reaches its height, and feels its freedom that does not seem to reach its end. Voce from Sweden.
Mondo's mother coaches him also. His parents have done a great job. He is my favorite athlete. However, it will be interesting to see Americans reaction to him jumping for Sweden in Tokyo.
Agreed, my only criticism, but way beyond that I hope he jumps higher than anyone before and I am sure he is a good person.
I'm American I'm a fan but I don't care what country he vaults for. I'm just a fan of people doing what they love to do.
Well, it's certainly legal because of his mom. He's already on Sweden's Olympic team whereas he would have to qualify for the USA team this summer. Now that he is a professional, my understanding is the money's better being on the Swedish team. Regardless, I really admire the whole family and wish him the very best. He makes vaulting look effortless.
@kissmyaass1 Ask him and his sponsors, he's verified this publically , not me. Also his dad is an attorney and they participate in every major decision. This includes the decision to go pro after 1 yr at LSU.
p52457 he isn’t on the Swedish team for the money.
And now he’s the second in the entire world!! Congrats
Now he's 1st in the worlds history
@@637x4 In the worlds history
Hampegfx he has the record but he is ranked number 2 in the world.
@@Alex-lq4dc so who is number one ?🤔
@lil chicken nugget
Sam Kendricks is ranked number one.
i think he will made this. He really could be the highest jumper ever
You were right! Just did 6.17
I believe he will get over 6.20 sometime...
Haha, now it is 6.18. What is going on?!
Ping Pong yeah i saw that too
This comment aged like fine wine.
Number one in history now fun to look back at it after that 6.17m clear
AMAZING 6.18 such souplesse he has, love it!
Actually beautiful. I teared up. He is now the best.
He just won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Man's a legend already
Tack så mycket!
In the interview this guy honestly reminds me of a real life Peter Parker
If ever there is a biography of him, the actor should be Timothee Chamalet
when i first saw him in tokyo 2020, i immediately thought of timothee for some reason LOL
Olympic Gold medalist and world record holder now
New world record 🌎 !!!!! 👏🏻
Walfredo della Gherardesca 18 now
His respect for Renand is amazing. He will go far.
6'18 in Scotland, made it look simple.
Who's here after he missed 6.19 by a whisker in Tokyo. But surely he's gonna break it in a couple of months ;)
He just needs to get a chance to officially try it again. I think he can do it anytime. He just got unlucky that night, angle was cms off
He's done 6.5. Its a world record
Absolutely amazing!
I love you Mondo !!❤😁
Amazing. Good for him. Seems like a good kid. I can recall being in the sport as a runner 25 years ago and knowing the name Sergei Bubka just because he was breaking heights records every meet it seemed. But this kid is 19 years old. Amazing...God bless and keeping breaking through the ceiling
You Are cool And my idol
Jsi jako můj brácha. Nevzdáváš se a děláš vše na maximum. Mělo by tě mít za vzor více lidí.
I'm your newest fan and thanks for the memories.
Theirs nothing like it!! I'm a 60 year old ex -pole vaulter.
Same here. 62 now. Best I could do in high school and college was 14’
14 feet is very good. My best was 11 feet 6 in. in the 10th grade.I changed High school after this and never pole vaulted again. I did variety letter twice in 9th grade. But even now, I've never have forgiven Jimmy Carter for pulling us out of the Olympics.
@@stevealexander6035 my best in high school was 11 feet. In college I did 14’ in practice a couple times with an old aluminum crossbar that was bent out of shape but couldn’t do it in competition. My best jump in competition was 12’6”. It was still fun and I had a great time. Went to a meet at the US Naval Academy as a spectator and watched a bunch of guys jump 17-18 feet.
We will never forget these wonderful memories and the feeling that come with it. I once received a standing ovation after clearing a height on my third a temp. I thought it was for someone else on the field. I looked
around and back to the crowd and pointed to myself in disbelief as the crowd nodes their heads to say " Yes it for you ". I'm sure we both could tell many stories that lead us to be the people of heart that we are.
@@stevealexander6035 Great memories indeed!
And best of all, he is such a humble man
and now he is =)
Whos here after 6.18??? Just magnificent

Amazing!!! We want 6.20! :)
just watch the first 5 seconds. Now here we are... hes 20 years old and has both records indoors and outdoors...
Mondo YOU ARE! YOU ARE NOW!!! :)))
He holds an Olympics Gold now.
I was here when he was in high school!
I hope you break many World Records
Well he just did
He just did again
Look at Renaud Lavillene and Mondo side by side and their bodies are almost indistinguishable. It's the new standard for pole vaulting body type, unlike the muscle bound vaulters of earlier days. The new guys have a tremendous power to light body weight ratio allowing them to push a lean physique over amazing heights. Obviously, they are also great athletes. Mondo comes from a family of athletes. His father was an outstanding pole vaulter from Lafayette, Louisiana. His mother was a tremendous volleyball player from Sweden. His brother, Antoine is a baseball player who starred at Louisiana State University's top ranked college team. Mondo was also an excellent soccer and baseball player before choosing the sport he was made for. This kid has only just started with his greatness.
And now has two wr chapeau
6.18, ill come back for 6.19
Love! Think about what that is. Too love something just love it.

One of the toughest events
America back on top
Cheers
He competes for Sweden..
By way of South Louisiana.
stepha_lap
I stand corrected
Interesting a born and raised American chose to represent his moms birth place.
Oh well
@@bluetickfreddy101 perhaps easier qualification to international events etc.? Happens quite a lot in athletics
stepha_lap
I’m very familiar with the practice but its usually not the best that america produces. ( potential world record at that time)
Mostly 3rd rate athletes that can’t make the american teams and choose a much lesser competitive home country.
That happens very often
Anyway
Good for him
DONE
Who’s here after 6.18m!!! 🙌🏻
"The sky's the limit"
Won olympics gold....fabulous he is
MONDO,,,,, EVEN HIS NAME IS THE SAME AS THE WORLDS BEST ATHLETICS TRACK SURFACE,,,😀😀😀
yeah
#1.
Well done to Olympic gold 🇯🇵🥇
Tokyo 2020 Gold Medalist
I ran track all through High school. Pole vault was for the CRAZIES. Very strong and brave. No kidding ,it is reallyscary. Like catching or goal tending.... but worse. This is interesting to learn that they made traing poles for him. Thats like YAMAHA guitars. They made them small fkr kids.
Whos here after 6.24
Who's here after 6.30
Bubka is cheering
You are amasons mondo
High Vaultage Wired!!!
Is there a pole length limit? His pole is so much shorter than the bar. I vaulted when we only had thick aluminium poles.
There is no limit on pole length. Never has been. His pole is 5.10 meters. His upper hand is near but not at the top. His net clearance is well over 4ft. higher than where he is holding - this is due to a composite vaulting pole. To use a longer pole requires him to grow taller or run faster. He is arguably the fastest pole vaulter in history having run a 10.56 100 meters in high school. And superior upper body strength is required too plus so much more. He's got it all.
p52457 are there pole specs, can he get better poles, technology is always improving
@@markhuru There are several manufactures of vaulting poles. The composites are lighter than fiberglass only and you hit the nail on the head regarding technology is improving. Women today are vaulting close to one foot higher than the best male that used the aluminum pole ( it was called Gill VaultMaster ) . Don Bragg vaulted 15-9 as I recall and he was clearly the best on a metal pole. With fiberglass and the introduction of composites it improves over 4 ft. since 1962. Look at golf clubs and fishing rods - wow have they changed. I'm not an expert on this stuff- just old.
I’m calling 6.23 in the next month
galen!
He will do 6.25 or 6.30 in the next year or so. After that, who knows?
6.18
